women and our friendly town hall. as harris tries to persuade conservatives to back her campaign. plus ready, willing, and able, israel has a plan to respond to the attack by iran earlier. this month. us officials believed that strike could happen before election day and one hour from now, lawyers for the menendez brothers speaking to the press, their message in light of new evidence, quote, the brothers have served more than 30 years in prison that is enough we are following these major developing stories and many more all coming in right here to cnn news central major media blitz. both presidential candidates taking their messages to fox news, though they've got two very different missions this evening, we're going to see kamala harris sitting down for her first ever interview with the network as she attempts to win over more conservatives.
12:03 pm
earlier today, trump appeared on fox for a town hall telling an exclusively female audience that he is the father of ivf oh, i want to talk about ivf of ivf. >> we really are the party for ivf. we want fertilization and it's all the way. and the democrats tried to attack us on it. and we're out there on ivf even more than them were totally in favor of it. >> harris is now railing against trump for those comments here. so she responded a short time ago donald trump. i found it to be quite bizarre, actually called himself the father of ivf. and if what he meant is taking vance ability with them, yeah, he should take responsibility for the fact that one in three women in america lives in a trump abortion ban. say what he should take responsibility but before is that couples who are
12:04 pm
praying and hoping and working toward growing a family and have been so disciplined and harmed by the fact that ivf treatments have now been put at risk let's begin our coverage now with cnn's alayna treene and alayna trump had a lot to say during that town hall walk us through the highlights right? well, i think that ivf comment was clearly one of the highlights. it was pretty odd comment when i talked to donald trump's senior pfizer's about this luck. they didn't have a direct response to the father of ivf quote, but what they said where they said that was coming from was essentially that donald trump thinks that he is a leader on that particular issue, especially when you look back at some of the idf rulings or supreme court rulings like an alabama in february that did impact access to ivf df, and donald trump had quickly come out and said, i support this and other republican officials followed suit. it is something i know that he brags about often in private conversations and he thinks it's one issue where he can really help narrow that
12:05 pm
gender gap and try to make inroads with female voters. but i do want to turn your attention to another very notable moment from that town hall, which was when he tried to clarify his comments, when he said that the greatest threat to united states is the enemy of the people. take a listen, or the enemy from within it is the enemy from within, and they are very dangerous. we have china, we have a russia, we have all these countries if you ever smart president, that they can all be handled, the more difficult or pelosi's, these people, there's so sick and so evil okay so and excuse me, i meant to save the enemy from within. i think the big thing here is that a lot of republican allies, people on the trump campaign were trying to defend these remarks from the former president and say that he was referring to protesters, to rioters. he talked about sending the military to deal with the enemy from within and then he said no, actually he was talking about his political opponents. he was talking about democrats. he mentioned directly the
12:06 pm
pelosi's. and so i think it's very clear what he was trying to say. the other part of this, of course, is that republicans continue to argue that democrats are using very dangerous rhetoric. they continue to blame. we just saw nancy mace do this with you moments ago, blamed democrats for the assassination attempts on the former president, but it is donald trump is using very dangerous language to alina. >> he also was just speaking to group of folks at town hall in univision. and he reiterated debunked claims about haitian migrants in springfield, ohio. tell us more about that. >> that's right. so and just to be clear, this was he just participated in this town hall in miami. it's not going to air until later, so we don't have the clips of that, but yes, he was asked about this. i'm a republican voter said that, you know, i've seen these comments. the officials on the ground republican officials on the ground have debunk to these claims. you said that you would revoke their temporary protected status. the haitian
12:07 pm
migrants who are living in ohio are you worried about that? do you take any of that back and donald trump tried to dodge it. he said that he was just looking yeah reports. he said, quote, i was just saying what was reported. he went on though to add that they were eating other things too, that they were not supposed to be. i mean he is not running away from this. i think it's very clear that these officials on the ground, rogan republican officials, the republican mayor of the town the republican governor of ohio, have been saying that these are just not true, and it goes beyond that as well. we know that these communities have been deeply impacted. we've seen the stories of these haitian migrants saying they are scared now in that community, we've seen the bomb threats and the closures of schools because of this rhetoric. and it's something that donald trump and jd vance and a lot of republicans are not running away from, i think it was very interesting that a republican voter asked him that question directly and tried to see if he would walk away from it. and donald trump said, this is something i read. but again, even if he had read that and it
12:08 pm
is later not true. these are comments that have been he's been consistently told her not true and is continuing to peddle he clearly likes it is illuminated the topic even though it's untrue exactly what republicans always say, that at least they're bringing light to this issue of immigration. at what cost alayna treene. thank you so much. i'll let's turn now to cnn's danny freeman, who is traveling with the harris campaign in battleground, pennsylvania and danny, the vice president, is set to speak there this hour alongside more than 100 republicans who support her before her fox interview airs. tell us about this that's right, brianna. well, nearly 250 years after president george washington crossed the delaware river behind me. now, today, vice president kamala harris is hoping and to reach across the aisle to convince some republicans to support her instead of former president donald trump. that's what this event entirely is about. you already noted over 100 republicans here, expected to back her and support vice president kamala harris. that's his in attendance predominantly for this event
12:09 pm
right here also, we're going to hear from former rep. senator adam kinzinger. we also just recently heard from the georgia lieutenant governor geoff, former lieutenant governor geoff duncan, all speaking about the themes of patriotism this is uniting the nation and particularly putting country over party and the harris campaign says that harris, when she speaks within this hour, is going to lean in two topics like january 6, like former president trump's unwillingness to accept the results of the 2020 election and much more that's really what this entire campaign event it's about today here in bucks county to present this image of a bipartisan campaign that's at least what they hope to bring across. but like you said, brianna were in bucks county the county that we talk about all the time. it's one of those purple counties, the suburbs of philadelphia. it usually has gone blue over the past several elections, at least on the presidential but interestingly, it's always by a very, very tight margin. and also this year, republicans now have a voter advantage. it's slight,
12:10 pm
but it is a voter vantage over democrats in this particular county, a senior harris aide for the campaign here in pennsylvania, noted recently that you just don't win bucks county unless you are able to win some republican voters that's what this event is all about today. and then you mentioned brianna, this media blitz continuing, she obviously did charlamagne tha god targeting hopefully black voters from the campaign's perspective yesterday, today, later on on going in to fox news to do an interview with bret baier, were told that that interview will take place after this event and then air later this evening. brianna, we're going to monitor the vice president's remarks from pennsylvania. will of course, bring you the latest on the ground. danny freeman. thank you so much. plenty of headlines to discuss with former fox news host geraldo rivera, who now works for newsnation geraldo, great to have you on. you just endorsed vice president kamala harris. you're obviously a veteran of fox news. what do you think she needs to accomplish in the sit down with bret baier? >> well, i think when she was with charlemagne tha god,
12:11 pm
boris, that was her most coherent. but i had heard her where she finally drifted away from the rote memorize the talking points and, really answered the question, listen to the question and answer the question. i think that's what she has to do. she has to show that she is a competent person who has easy access in her mind to the facts, at least in the general way that she has spontaneous thought that she can be original, that the chest to portray a kind of competence that going back to memorize the campaign slogans does not project. but i think that she's maybe relaxing for the first time she understands. she's in the 11th hour that she may be trailing and so darn close don't know. so i think that we will see now the real kamala harris and i'm optimistic that she will
12:12 pm
represent in a way that that is profoundly appealing to the voters contrast thing. i think donald trump is also with these town halls, boris, i also think that he he portrays who are projects himself in the best possible light. of course, he says dumbass things like haitians are eating things that are not supposed to and going off on. some of these crazy rants, like a uni and people who look like us are poisoning the blood of the nation. but i think that it's going to be a fascinating 20 days bars yeah. >> to that point, you just made about specifically immigrants and his rhetoric is bellicose rhetoric about immigrants. there was a recent poll that came out from the new york times and siena college that asks latino voters specifically quickly whether they thought some of that rhetoric was directed at them. if donald trump is talking about them, when he says things, as you noted, that are just off color to say the least. and 51% that
12:13 pm
this is overall latino voters. but 51% of latino voters who were born outside the country, who were not even born in the united states do not think that donald trump is talking about them when he says those things about immigrants. i'm wondering why you think that is rolled i think there's a divide and conquer strategy, boris, where he's appealing to my dad, who came from puerto rico, one of 17 children, the first to speak english, the first to emigrate to the mainland from puerto rico. >> he all he wanted to do is fit fit in. all he wanted to do is be an american he tried his best. that's why the family became republicans. we want it to be just like every other citizen. and there's there is an appeal. i think that is effectively being made by the trump campaign. now, to divide and conquer, make it a class kind of thing. you know, we're not the hord coming across the
12:14 pm
border in many tens of thousands, where are the ones who are opening businesses and becoming anchors on cnn and news nation and this and that but the fact of the matter is that there is a racist appeal here. i've known this guy forever and i don't believe when i knew him in years past, in decades past, that he had any racism in am i could tell by the people he hired the people around him. he had everybody who is very integrated. he was not race conscious but now i believe that he has made a decision a pragmatic are ruthlessly pragmatic decision to make. a racial appeal that the other is coming to take over, that this brown hord is coming to rape you your your children and steal your jobs there is the anarchy and so forth and so on. i think it is when you say poisoning the blood of the nation or even worse than that when he said, i think it's in their genes that they're
12:15 pm
murderers and they laugh a lot of bad genes that, that is a direct insult that every i can't imagine why latino men particularly in this climate, are allowing that kind of crap to be spoken and still suggest that there is something appealing about donald trump's candidacy for president her older, you mentioned that you had been friends with him. you've been close with them for some time and i know you publicly had spoken about the falling out that you had following january 6, and in her appeal to right-leaning voters, we've seen vice president harris emphasize the ramifications of that day. what is led to january 6, and everything that has come since she's also been joined on stage by these january 6 committee members, liz cheney, adam kinzinger, former republican congress people. is that do you think the most compelling message to draw in disaffected republicans? >> i think that the message
12:16 pm
should be remember how you felt when you were watching television on january 6, remember the, the, pit, the pit in your stomach that you had when you saw the capital of the united states, the center, the soul of our democracy being a sailed by a mob and to watch that. and how did you feel remember how you about, i mean, i won't mention any names, but i mean it's people that i am so still so close to people who i worked with for over 20 years at fox news. i say to them and it have said on the air, remember how you felt on january 7 remember how you felt when you assessed what he has unleashed, what he had incited, and what he unleashed and i remember that he even went after the vice president and i say its path and it's mike pence and tried to get him to distort this is constitutional role in certifying the electors
12:17 pm
to disavow or a disk credit or disallow the election results. remember how you felt that that man was impeached for a good reason? he was acquitted, but he was a impeached for a good reason. he used anti-democratic tactics to try to thwart the will of the american people the sentence i would like vice president harris to say is, remember how you felt on january 6 when you were watching tv? he has made a liar, boris, he has made a liar. and the republican party. he has made tens of millions of americans liars because they know, we all know that the election was not stolen, and that he's talking to a bunch of crap about it. and we understand that it's politics, but it is despicable. and that's the reason i'm not going to vote for him. wars. >> geraldo rivera very much appreciate the time and the perspective. thanks for joining us nice, nice at boar's. thank

12:23 pm
election day in the united states, which has now about 20 days away. >> sources also say that while the timing of the election is not directly tied to the decision of when and how israel will attack prime minister benjamin netanyahu is highly sensitive to the political consequences of israel's actions that counter strike is in response to iran's launch of nearly 200 ballistic missiles on israel earlier this month, it was teheran largest ever attack against its longtime adversary. cnn's jeremy diamond, is in bruce along with the latest in germany you're learning that israel's plans for the counter right. >> a source familiar with the matter telling us that the israeli government has plans ready to go for a strike against iran in retaliation for that barrage of some 200 ballistic missiles. the question is, when exactly will the israeli prime minister give the green light to the military to carry out that attack. and the timing is still quite unclear at this stage. it's already been a couple of weeks,
12:24 pm
of course, since that barrage by iran. but us officials are telling us that they do expect that israel will carry out this attack before the november election. and of course that raises the possibility of injecting yet another middle east crisis as the expectation is that iran likely will also retaliate for israel's retaliation for this ballistic missile barrage. and that of course could play heavily into voters a considerations. as the november election approaches jeremy focusing on gaza, the u.s has been pressuring israel to get in more humanitarian aid or risks. some kind of restriction of us military aid. the state department recently said that there was progress made. tell us about that >> the state department is indeed saying that they are seeing some steps that the israelis are already taking in the wake of this letter that was delivered to top israeli officials earlier this week, demanding that israel take steps within the next 30 days
12:25 pm
to dramatically improve humanitarian conditions in gaza and that letter, of course, as we know, also came with a warning that if israel does not comply with dramatically increasing aid to gaza, that it could stop receiving certain weapons from the united states is the bottom line here. >> the state department is saying that israel has taken some steps, including reopening the erez crossing, which would go into northern gaza. and of course we know that northern gaza is where the situation is at its worst right now is the israeli military carries out a major ground operation. there fourth time, they have gone in after they say that hamas has re-established itself in that area. and at the same time, they are directing hundreds of thousands of palestinians in that area to evacuate. and those who remained, some of whom because they know that if even if they flee, they may not find themselves in a safer situation in the humanitarian zone that it has also been struck by the israeli military. others who are trapped in their homes, and those who are still in northern gaza are finding
12:26 pm
very little aid actually getting in hospitals only three of them actually remaining at minimal capacity. and we also know that those who have died are now being subjected to degrading conditions as well. the head of gaza saying that some bodies have been recovered from the streets with signs that they have been scavenged by animals in the areas. so the situation is seriously deteriorating. and of course, the u.s. now bringing some heavy pressure to bear, we'll see if it results in action alright, jeremy diamond, live for us from jerusalem. >> thank you. still ahead, battleground counties still fighting over ballot drop boxes. what we're learning about a federal investigation after a mirror and wisconsin was caught wheeling away one and of those dropbox week and asked questions like, what does a comedy show doing on cnn? that's too much want donald now can you slice that i

my after they happen. >> but they haven't been reported yet. >> well, we have election law a violation that happens just about every time around. so when election laws violated, i have to investigate that in a county trump won by 30 points in 2020. schmidt says the local who community is with him, but i'm very well supported by our constituency here. do i answer to the rest of the country? no, i don't answer my voters here in touch, cohen such a fascinating story he talked about the appearance of fraud. is there any actual evidence that places where there are dropbox is see more fraud? >> there's not evidence that these drop boxes or somehow these huge magnets for voter fraud. we saw a ton of misinformation around this, around the 2020 election. and it's sort of gave them a bad rap, but look, there are safeguards in place if you show up and you dump 50 ballots into a dropbox that you just made up or invented the poll workers are going to know that they look at those envelopes, they match the names against the poll books. they see if you voted some other ways. so it's not like you can just throw a bunch of ballots into these dropboxes, walk away and

answer questions you may have call now and we'll come to you 808 to one 4,000 family of erik and lyle menendez will push for the brothers to be released from prison at a news conference in los angeles, the menendez brothers now are in their 50s and they're serving life sentences without the possibility of parole after they were convicted of murdering their parents in their beverly hills mansion back in 1989 the first trial both claimed self-defense after lifelong abuse, including sexual abuse by their father. both separate juries deadlocked, and there retrial much of the defense is evidenced of abuse was excluded, and prosecutors countered that the abuse never for actually happened let's get an update now from cnn's veronica miracle is covering this for us from los angeles, veronica, it's been about 35 years since the murders. what can you tell us about this new evidence that's been shared by the la district attorney turning yeah.
12:43 pm
>> boris for the first time we are seeing this letter that attorneys say proves erik menendez was sexually abused by his father, jose and that this this abuse was documented before the murders took place. and this is important because as you've mentioned, at the time that the brothers were on trial together, prosecutors argued that there was no evidence of sexual abuse and that they were simply after their parents, jose and kitty is multimillion-dollar first-aid. this letter, it's part of a larger group of evidence that the la county district attorney, george gascon is reviewing to see if the brothers should be re-sentenced. and he posted this letter on instagram. it has since been deleted, but we've taken a look at it. we want to read you in part what it says. it was a letter written from erik menendez to his cousin and andy and it says, quote, i've been trying to avoid dad. it's still happening. andy, but it's worse for me now. i never know when it's going to happen and it's driving me crazy. every night i stay of thinking he might come in. attorneys say
12:44 pm
that this letter was written months before the murders happened, though when george cosco and posted it, it was undated now, just about 20 minutes. there's going to be a press conference here, and i want to show you just how many people have shown up for this. there are we are surrounded by cats cameras and reporters, and then behind this camera, behind our camera, there are dozens of people have lined up to see what is going to be happening here family members of the month and does brothers are flying in from all over the country, a long list of speakers, including cousins of the menendez brothers, and notably kitty menendez is sister conversely kitty menendez, his brother, is one family member who is not happy about this and who feel that the menendez brothers should not be released. so we'll be hearing from them. we'll bring that but two in a later report. but the district attorney, george gascon, he has until the end of november to decide if the brothers should be re-sentenced. send it back to you veronica miracle live for us in downtown los angeles.
12:45 pm
thank you so much. let's dig deeper now with defense attorney misty marris misty, what's the significance of the da sharing this letter? should he have? it was ultimately taken down. but this letter was actually part of a public record previously, the letter was part of what's called a habeas corpus petition for the menendez brothers. this is the filing which saw the menendez brothers to either have a recentered thing or to have their country eviction overturned. the district attorney's sharing it. did not seem like a good move necessarily, however, it's not that it was new information per say how likely misty is a re-sentenced thing really well, resentencing is generally a longshot, however, we're in california. >> so the district attorney makes a recommendation, ultimately, though, that has to be signed off by a judge, and there's two paths here. one
12:46 pm
path is based on a recent california law, relating to resentencing. were the court can take into consideration other sentences of comparable cases, whether or not they're the same, they can take into consideration whether the defendants were victims of psychological or physical abuse, rehabilitation, weather they're not someone's a danger to society. and that's all a part of a reset dancing project. the menendez brothers is one case of a larger project in california. the second path is this new evidence does this new evidence, which seems like it corroborates the menendez brothers story that there was abuse before the killings does that is that the basis to reduce the charges from what they work? >> murder one, to voluntary manslaughter. >> and if the prosecutors say you know what, we're going to scrap that conviction because this new evidence came to light. well, we'd only charge him with voluntary manslaughter
12:47 pm
they've already served the maximum sentence. so these are all the factors that would be taken into consideration by the judge and the district attorney. >> misty, there was some speculation. we spoke to an entertainment reporter earlier. the actually the editor in chief at a deadline, any pointed out that there were some sort of political considerations at play as well, in part because the da, there is facing a very difficult reelection battle and there are a number of big name celebrities. can pradesh, ian, rosie o'donnell, who have come forward and advocated for the menendez brothers. she actually says, rosie o'donnell does that she spoke with them recently after speaking with their attorney mark geragos. let's listen to this soundbite i call them after i spoke to mark last night about doing this appearance and i said, what's going on and they said we there hesitant to hope after being in jail and prison for 35 years and being abused for his childhood up to that point. you know, these men don't have a
12:48 pm
lot of bandwidth to hope for what exactly happened misty, how much does that sort of outside influence have on this potential resentencing also noted that the new netflix series that is gaining popularity i was just about to say there's a documentary, there's a netflix series that's incredibly popular. you have celebrity standing behind the menendez brothers. all of that is certainly you can you can opine that's a lot of pressure on a district attorney who's up for reelection. that being said, those are not the factors that the district attorney is supposed to take into consideration or the court will ultimately make a ruling based upon one thing that is something the district attorney will take into consideration, which is very relevant to the presser we're going to hear today, is the input of the family of the victims in the
12:49 pm
family of the menendez brothers. remember, district attorney's work for the people. and so the victims, families perception is going to be something that they will absolutely be taking into consideration now, that being said, this is such a high profile case and habeas corpus petitions are really really rarely granted. but where we all right. now, we know we have this hearing coming up in november. it's just a matter of waiting for the district attorney has a recommendation. but remember, the judge ultimately has to make the ruling yeah misty. >> marris appreciate the analysis. thanks for joining us thank you. stay with news central. we'll be right back >> recommend coli stool softener for gentle dependable relief from constipation. it's so gentle, doctors even recommended during pregnancy and after surgery, cola increases water in the stool, making it's softer, so it's easier to go. no harsh laxatives, scramping, restraining colaio know what
