right past. and i will say a lot of the success that the campaigns and advocacy groups have had comes because they have hired an empowered gen-z creators to do a lot of this work i used to carry around a quote from barry manilow. this is years before tiktok, but he said, no one was more surprised than me to find out i wasn't hip and i tried to live by that. i mean, don't be surprised if your square, you've got to figure out the sort of the media here before you jump on. clare duffy. thank you. thanks very much for that new our have cnn news central starts now >> the candidates right now battling for every vote before election day, the harris campaign, bringing a big name on the trail star who's going to own the moment when he hits the stage tonight in detroit and a new study reveals a role shifting policies are playing on abortion access in post-roe
6:01 am
america plus the nba season tips off tonight, the father, son duo set to make history when they play together on the same team on sara sidner with kate bolduan and john john berman. this is cnn new central boatload of cash in two weeks on the clock to win over undecided voters and motivate your supporters. >> we're about to find out election day is two weeks out. and kamala harris today sits down for two major interviews. donald trump will soon be meeting with latino leaders in florida and then heading back to north carolina, tim walz is about to take his harris campaign pitch to wisconsin with a big deal democrat by his side. former president barak obama and knew that this morning cnn has learned that eminem, not someone who does much of any public events lately will be out in public introducing obama later tonight
6:02 am
in detroit at a rally to support vice president harris, cnn's eva mckend is tracking the harris campaign two weeks on the clock. where are they focusing today? >> two weeks ago, kate, they are certainly trying to leverage celebrity with these big events. we rarely see eminem, the real slim shady. so that will be a space to watch with former president barak obama in detroit for sure. and new this morning, the vice president unveiling economic proposals targeting latino men in a push to grow support among this key voting block, the plan aims to lower costs increase homeownership in expand job opportunities. so this is similar to harris is proposal for black men, where she intends to increase startup funding by providing 1 million loans fully forgivable up to $20,000 to latino entrepreneurs and others to start part a business, then she's going to sit today with nbc and the spanish language network telemundo. we've got more of the policy proposals. they are includes building 3 million new
6:03 am
affordable homes, and increasing annual first-time latino homebuyers to nearly 600,000. so some ambitious policy see proposals there eva, the kamala harris, liz cheney kind of get out the vote tour that we saw. what is your big takeaway from all of their events together in battle, in the battleground states so kate, this is about country over party. they maintain, and it is really a play to these disaffected republicans that may not agree with harris on every policy matter. but may be more concerned about the health of our democracy. they are banking that there is a universal of voters that they can appeal to in this space. and a former congresswoman speaking in an interesting way about this issue of abortion, take a lesson you know i am, i'm pro-life and i have been
6:04 am
very troubled, deeply troubled by what i have watched happen in so many states since dobbs, you have women who as vice president said in some cases, have died maintaining that they don't believe that this is a base only 11 they believed that they have to appeal to those moderate republicans as well. but they will be a key part of the coalition in the battleground states eva, thank you so much. >> busy day ahead for the harris campaign and a busy day ahead for the trump campaign. let's go to florida now, steve contorno is standing by striking the trump campaign as donald trump will be in miami speaking with latino leaders very soon, steve, what do you expect? see a part of florida where he performed better than many expected four years ago,
6:05 am
largely in part because of the support he received from the latino community had a lot of cuban american supporters. he had a lot of venezuela community of puerto rican. >> and now he is trying to build off of that momentum going into the 2024 election. >> now florida isn't necessarily in play. however there is a large latino population in nevada in arizona that he's trying it's a region and i'm in pennsylvania as well. so today in a couple of hours, he will be hosting a roundtable, right behind me where he will be speaking with leaders in the latino business community, talking about their priorities going into these next four years and why a trump administration will be better for them. than a harris administration? michigan, he will be trying to have that message broadcast to all those swing states and all those latino voters who care about this issue greatly in those really, really key parts of the country and see what's, what is the strategy was sending with donald trump heading back to north carolina again today and clearly a very strong focus on
6:06 am
that battleground state >> i think six months ago, his campaign would have been surprised to know that they would be spending so much time in north carolina in the closing weeks of this race. however, if you look at how this race has changed ever since vice president harris took over for president biden north carolina is one of those states that has become far more competitive. and we are seeing donald trump respond. you don't normally candidates show their hand a little bit in these closing weeks of the election, either they're going where they see an opportunity, or were they have to protect their flank and north carolina and one of those states that trump barely won in 2021 of the closest battlegrounds that he actually won. this is a state that he needs to win again and he is showing up there trying to ensure that it has not taken from him this go around steve. >> thank you so much, much more to come from donald trump this morning. let's dig more into exactly those numbers in those exact battleground states. john berman, to the point that steve contorno was just making, i
6:07 am
want to talk about donald trump going to north carolina to do that. >> i'm going to use the 2020 election macro. remember an election that president biden won, but in north carolina, north carolina was this date that donald trump did win. but the one he won with the smallest margin, about 1.3%, not very much at all. so he's making his fourth trip there in two days, which is an awful lot. they're clearly trying to guard his flank and where he's going he's going to greensboro, which is in gilford county. now you're gonna look at this and say, wait a minute, he's going to a blue county. why is he campaigning in democratic territory sometimes it's about the margins there. you could see president biden won this county, but he wanted by about 23%. now i'm going to keep this number there for a second and pull out to talk about the margins because it's an same election we're donald trump won north carolina or republican. the governor's race was won by democrat, roy cooper. roy cooper, one across the state. let's push back in
6:08 am
to gill for county here, and you can see in gilford county, cooper, who won the state won by 29% in gilford county. so you can see that donald trump was able to keep it much closer in this county that in the governor's race there in those margins certainly helped him in sometimes when you talk about where you're going, it's not just the county itself. we can pull up here and look at randolph county, which is but right by north carolina, has some population centers and then just outside the population centers, some more rural counties, where if you talk about the presidential race, donald trump just crushed joe biden here, look, 77% to 21%. here are thousands of votes there. randolph county is of course, where richard petty's from. richard petty dolphin shows up at campaign events there. and again, when you look at the margins here, trump at 77%, just if you look at the governor's race there, that year, the republicans only got 72%. so donald trump trying to stretch the margins in these republican counties have and
6:09 am
get back to the presidential race, stretch the margins. there and the democratic counties trying to keep it much closer. sara. >> all right. i want to bring in cnn political commentator and former trump campaign adviser, david urban. and cnn senior political commentator and former senior obama adviser, david axelrod. we have the battle of the davids do david. alright, mcdonald's has become a political football shocking. both candidates concerned about minimum wage, asked about minimum wage here, or what? the two candidates set between donald trump and me on a number of issues, including this, where i absolutely believe we must raise minimum wage and that hardworking americans, whether they're working at mcdonald's or anywhere else i think this i think these people work hard. great. >> i just saw something a process is beautiful. >> it's a beautiful thing to see. these a great franchises
6:10 am
all right, so we didn't answer the question. >> trump won't commit there to increasing minimum wage. harris well, david axelrod, how much might this issue matter to voters and others? probably, i think it's around 1.3 million people who make at or below minimum wage according to the bureau of statistics, how much does this matter but of course, you raise minimum wage and other wages rise as well, listen, this is a matter of concern to and support for people across. >> there is broad support for racing the minimum wage, but it goes to the larger battle here about the economy. donald trump would like to run on the issue of the economy, and he has some advantages on the issue of the economy. but what kamala harris was trying to do strategically has asked the question, who's going to fight for you in the economy and it's very much much geared at working working class people and people who are aspiring to become middle-class
6:11 am
and so the minimum wage becomes a very, very important issue. and it was interesting that trump didn't answer. he really more appropriately belongs at burger king because of the whopper's man, he tells them off and hold that he's been saving that it's a good one also add to my friend. >> you said at the beginning that we came to battle my eye only discussed with david urban. i don't battle with dave it is a wonderful thing. >> it is a wonderful thing. david trump's not answering this question. very simple question. so why go to mcdonalds in the first? it's place because obviously the economy is the issue here that were a little, a little bit of what's to troll, right? kamala harris, obviously, i think it was dominated the news cycle, but listen, sara, in the ax during the trump administration, right? during
6:12 am
the trump presidency, real wages grew at the bottom that socio-economic level in tremendously. and so guess what happened? people, they didn't have to raise the minimum wage the government and fda mandated minimum wages. wages went up. and in that bottom part, right, because people had to pay more, because they weren't the labor pool shrug. there weren't that many people to work. so wages increased for that bottom group, that socioeconomic spectrum, more so than any other and so a booming economy is the best thing you can do for minimum wage. plus the people at mcdonald's, i think mcdonald's that the average wage a mcdonald's employee someplace between 15 and $19 an hour? so they're getting they're getting i'm not saying you're you're you're living a lavish life, but they're not getting minimum wage and mcdonald's has great benefits and you get promoted, you get at college, college. college opportunities and other things. it's a great place to start your career. so i think trump went there for a variety of reasons. look, you look natural there behind the, behind doing the front eyes right? i mean, the guy i could listen, he consumes a lot of friday he did he looked he was
6:13 am
in there. he was talking about, you know, food sanitation, the guy knows his stuff. there. there's a great clip from, from there the practice is on the internet where you can see him doing room service at the who trump hotel in in chicago, and activate remember that breonna was on walking the dog or doing room service. people hope would make room so he gets a service industry all right. i do want to ask you about something that trump i thought i thought it was weird. >> i thought it was i thought it was weird that he was offering people supersized arnold palmer's. but anyway, go ahead, sara, what did you want to say you took the words right out of my mouth, david. >> no, you didn't all right. let me ask you about what we heard donald trump say. he'd gotten pretty dark here when he started talking about christians telling christians to go vote, listen she's very destructive to religion. >> she's very destructive to christianity and very destructive to evangelicals to the catholic church alright, so you heard him there talking
6:14 am
about harris and saying that there's an attack on christians there isn't, i'm not sure there's an attack per say. >> i think that be. what would the former president would be talking about is the kind of perceived disrespect from this campaign towards people. the catholic face, specifically, i know you had gretchen whitmer in this failed attempt to being funny, looked like she was offering communion to some person on tiktok and then the snub at the al smith dinner and it goes back to when she was on the judiciary committee kind of doing battle with some judges who were members of the knights of columbus kind of demonizing the knights of columbus of all things who are hosting pancake breakfast at your local church. and so i think there's a perception rightly or wrongly that calmly harris is as anti-catholic and she is serving under as i catholic for i understand that. but there's a perception right. that she's anti-catholic catholic and it's that's not going to help her in states like michigan and pennsylvania, places with large
6:15 am
catholic population. david, is there a perception or is it one that's being pushed by the republicans? yeah, that's like trump. i mean, he was on with howard kurtz on sunday on fox news and he was asked about the cats and dogs story and he said, well, i just that's that's what i heard. that is what i heard. and so that's how you promote these kinds of memes. listen my i'm not i'm, i'm jewish, but my understanding of christian values goes to compassion and concern for those who need help and a hole real honesty and a whole range of values, none of which the former president is modeling right now or has and dividing people and trying to turn people against each other doesn't strike me as a value
6:16 am
in any religious traditions. so i think one of the things that's on the ballot here is do we are, we one american community with all our differences, but are we one american community where we respect each other and we can talk to each other and work our differences through, or are we going to be divided against ourselves for a particular candidate or party's political benefit. i think there's a majority of americans who would like to be in the first category. and if that's the case, then kamala harris will win this election. acts as masterful is my former boss, arlen specter would say that's a very good answer. a completely different question to catholics feel that there's a perception that they're not liked by this harris trump harris out walz campaign. i think they answer is yes. we'd have to we'd have to look at the polling. i do want to quickly ask you both to respond to a couple of things are a lot of suits that are flying now with a whole bunch of people who have really obviously engaged in this election because there's a lot of people early voting republicans sued in two states assault
6:17 am
certain american citizens living overseas from being able to vote and to judges both in north carolina, michigan. lambasted their attempts. one, saying there's absolutely no evidence of fraud that they are trying to say they're trying to stop. and in michigan, the judge said there's an 11th hour attempt here by republicans to disenfranchise some eligible voters. david, why would you want to stop members of the military and other american citizens overseas from voting? >> i don't want to write when i was in the military, when i was an army officer, i was the voting assistance officer and my unit. right. so help people get absentee ballots and vote and get their things in and you don't want to encourage everybody participate in electoral process. and so that's that's obviously not what i think is the goal here. the goal here i think was to make sure that people were doing it correctly and that things are being filed correctly. look, it's everybody's right to petition the court system in and try and if they lose, go move on. and i think that should be the end of it. you lose your case i don't want to hear about a bellyaching and whining after the case, they go look, there's what happened, that
6:18 am
judicial system through this election. no, it's not what happened here there is the issue of the six of 15 gop electors in michigan that are now going to be part of this election cycle. >> i'm going to have to leave it there. david axelrod david urban, the davids are with us today and that's a good thing. john berman by breaking overnight sources say harvey weinstein has been diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer. >> we've gotten new details on his treatment behind bars and how attached are you to your cell phone? new photos of woman trapped upside down between two bowl holders after she risked her life to save her phone before election day. >> vice president harris bases voters and takes the pressing questions lie. anderson cooper moderates a cnn presidential townhall kamala harris tomorrow at nine eastern cnn high. >> it's christina again. i'm

6:24 am
any promises about this meeting on the way over a senior state department official traveling with the secretary of state told reporters that the united states really doesn't know what the next few weeks will look like for gaza. and one of the main things that they're trying to capitalize on is what they say is an opportunity after the death of hamas leader yahya sinwar to actually bring about an end to the conflict in gaza, but simultaneously they're now saying, which we heard in the hours after sinwar's death that his death actually complicates things as well. us officials don't know when there'll be able to get back to negotiations. they don't know who is going to be actually making the calls for hamas within gaza. they also the senior state department official said that qatar doesn't know that, and egypt doesn't know that. this is a pivotal trip for the secretary of state to have conversations with israel to try and push for an end to the conflict. but it's not entirely clear that that is going to be possible at this time. have to understand the backdrop here. you guys were just showing the video
6:25 am
footage of that new israeli airstrike in southern lebanon. there is no abatement to the back-and-forth between hezbollah and israel along that northern border then you also look at the humanitarian situation in gaza. that's something that the u.s. is focused on. they have made demands that israel needs to do better with allowing humanitarian aid into gaza over next few weeks. but we just heard this morning from the head of the un agency for humanitarian assistance inside gaza, who said quote, that there had been non-stop bombardments from israeli forces. he talked about the smell of death in gaza. so clearly, things aren't getting better overnight. that's something that the secretary of state will be keenly focused on during this visit and arduous process to say the least, kylie atwood. thank you very much. kate oh new look on how infant mortality rates rose in the months after abortion bans took effect. >> in some states we also have new video of the tragic moments for a deadly gangway collapsed

political analysis. you have questions out. >> biden said, the right off, stayed awake why did trump pulled out of 60 minutes? >> love pulling out, losing that word by got news for you saturday at nine on cnn this is new for you this morning. >> the changing landscape of abortion care. we have new numbers to illustrate choices women are making since roe versus wade was overturned two years ago, most abortions are still provided in-person, but that number is on the decline slowly declining. so what are women turning to instead, cnn's meg tirrell is with us now. tell us more about what is changing here and what is being used instead. as women seek
6:31 am
abortion care so what might surprise some people to find out is that the number of abortions provided through the formal health care system. >> and that's not even counting folks getting this outside of the formal health care system. they have been rising since roe v. wade was overturned, and they are higher now than they were before the dobbs decision in 2022. so on average, other about 99,000 monthly abortions provided either through hospitals, clinicians, offices, or through telemedicine per month in the united states for the first half of 2024. if you compare the last quarter up through june to the same period the year before they were up 11% overall and a lot of that is being, being driven by access through telemedicine. so people who are getting access to medication, abortion, you can see there that red line is when the dobbs decision was that overturned, roe v. wade. and now the average number of monthly abortions is higher than it was previously before that decision. so telemedicine is the way a lot more people are getting access to abortion. it was about 4% of total
6:32 am
clinician provided abortions in april of 2022, right before dobbs was overturned. now, it's 21% total abortions. >> that's really interesting. what did this study find out about people living in states that have those very strict almost bans on abortion. did the numbers go down there with abortion care or not? >> what was different for different states based on their geography and how accessible thing these are two people, but of course there were more than a dozen states that almost totally banned abortion after roe v. wade was overturned. still more states enacted six-week bans that are fairly early. and what we see is that there are shield laws which are laws that provide some protection to doctors in other states who can prescribe medication abortion through telemedicine to people states with these bands and we saw that about 9,000 people or even more per month were accessing medication, abortion through telehealth in states with bans are with these early
6:33 am
gestational limits on accessing abortion. we also know that folks travel outside of states to get abortion care if they have bans or limits in their states but in states like texas for example, where the travel time is much farther than it could be in other states. you didn't see as many people being able to access abortion as before the band's went into it's also interesting because the numbers don't lie. this sort of tell you what the trend is and what's happening since roe versus wade. thank you so much. meg tirell, it was grateful 20 john breaking news. >> the former ceo bove abercrombie and fitch arrested on charges related to sex trafficking. and this morning, one airport is done with your emotional farewells hi, they are implementing a three-minute time limit on goodbye. have race for the ages here with nibbles, the hamster jumping out to a ten point advantage over jaws, the goldfish, what the heck is going on here? >> swim can it's, a decent

6:39 am
didn't get the proper support from this administration they spent their money on illegal migrants they sweat dead body they didn't have any money left for north carolina so daniel, what's the truth here trump made at least three false claims on this subject in his remarks yesterday. >> so he claimed at one point in north carolina that fema disaster relief money is quote, all gone. it's not as of last week, fema had about eight $0.5 billion left in that fund, although it might have to go back to congress to get some additional funding, funding for the rest of the year. second of all, it is again, we've pointed out not true that fema improperly diverted disaster relief money to house migrants. what happened was that congress appropriated about $650 million for fema to administer the program to support the sheltering of migrants. but separately appropriated more than $35 billion in the same fiscal year for disaster relief funding. those are simply to separate pots. there's no sign that anything inappropriate is

happening. and third of all, it is not true that the biden administration ran out of money. there had no money to support north carolina in the wake of this hurricane. in fact, female itself has already provided more than $100 million in individual assistance in north carolina residents post-hurricane and the biden administration over all, it says that it has already provided more than 300 million to the state in general, that includes aid to county and other local governments and 0.4, if donald trump thinks this is so bad, which was moving money from the disaster relief fund to housing migrants. his administration did it. he did it in 2019. we talked about it then it's still true now and his in his campaign definitely does not want to answer questions about that when we posed it to them, daniel, let's talk about building let's talk about manufacturing, building back up manufacturing in the united states is a focus of both campaigns. i want to play for you. what vice presidential candidate tim walz said about this yesterday? you're able to bring manufacturing like kamala harris is dead. we know donald
6:41 am
trump lost more manufacturing jobs in any president american history. that's simply factual what are, what are the facts here well, if you're going to say something is simply factual, it should be factual. >> this is not, it's not true that the trump presidency lost more manufacturing jobs than any other presidency under george w bush. there were about 4.5 million manufacturing jobs lost under trump. it was about 178,000 and they're also more manufacturing jobs lost that under trump, under eisenhower, under ford, under reagan. so trump does not have the record. i think it's also worth pointing out for context that these trumped job losses and manufacturing overwhelmingly occurred because of the covid, pandemic pre-pandemic there under trump, there was a gain of about 414,000 manufacturing jobs. again, ended negative 178,000, but that was largely because we had a pandemic related crash daniel dale great to see you as always. >> thank you. john all right. >> just in this morning, the harris campaign is releasing new economic plans targeted at latino men. harris will deliver
6:42 am
details during an interview on telemundo with us now is the ceo of the league of united latin american citizens want pro bono, who i believe is here on behalf of the harris campaign, who you have supported the harris campaign. this plan says it will lower costs, increase homeownership, and expand job opportunities for latino men house, specifically what they've talked about was, you know, removing some of the barriers including, for example, college degrees and apprenticeship programs. >> so something that could provide a pathway for up to 2 million latinos to enter the workforce. we've also introduced new programs, for example over 600,000 homes you get atieno into home ownership. it's one of the biggest reasons why the latino net worth gap is so significant. and in addition to that, providing funding up to $20,000 in grants and other interest-free loans to help
6:43 am
grow in scale. latino small businesses so why now? >> why not sooner a great question, john. >> i mean, there's no question that latino is actually going to play a significant role in this election cycle. and both campaigns are basically trying to do everything that they can to appeal to the latinos this is harris's plan. we've had a chance to review it. we believe it's very thoughtful and we do believe it will have a significant impact in improving the living conditions of latinos in the united states so the new york times which is an all kinds of polling along with sienna college tried to split out some of the numbers among latino man and some shifts that have happened since 2020. >> i want to put this up on the screen so people can see in 2024, among latino man right now, harris leads donald trump 48 to 45%. now, that same group, when you ask them who they supported four years ago,
6:44 am
it was biden 39 trump, 30. so that numbers shrinking pretty substantially between 2020 and 2024 for harris, not leading by as much as she was. why do you i think that is well, you know, i first of all, i think that there's basically a cap in regards to how much support actually donald trump will be able to get and there is no question, obviously that we've been following those polling numbers very, very closely. we have a lot of, questions in regards to the viability of some of those polls because it's very difficult to poll latino especially young latinos. but we have seen a shift in regards to latino men. but that's not necessarily the case when it actually comes to latina women the one thing that really none campaigns have actually really account before is at 28% of the new latino voters will be voting for the first time ever and so we think that there's a, that there's a greater games that harris could
6:45 am
actually make as we get closer to the campaign, closer to the election. and on even if you do have some questions about these polls, you yourself acknowledged in the research that you've done, the people you've talked to that there has been a shift among latino men. do you have any explanations for why? >> you know my sense is obviously a lot of them are basically appealing more towards that populist message that trump actually has been my recommendation certainly for latino men is to really be more thoughtful and not just think of yourself, you know, think about, for example, your wife have children and your kids needs, which candidate is going to actually be better for you and your family as opposed to just yourself. >> example, in my family, we could about a lot of my sister and her husband. they would go to the polls and he would vote republican and she would vote for a democrat. and they basically were killed canceling each other's votes out. and so really what we're saying is
6:46 am
you should talk about it with your spouse. you should talk about it with your loved ones. because a lot of the policy issues really going to impact your parents, your great grandparents, your children for example, were obviously very concerned about these issues of deportation and the threats of deporting up to 15 million latinos. that's really concerning to us. >> who is your sister's husband voting for this time where there's about maybe two republicans in our household. >> but look it's important that we continue to so to talk about it, my vote is not going to just be for myself. it's going to be for my wife. it's going to be for my daughter. it's going to be from my mother as well. and so we have to be a lot more thoughtful about it. it can't just be about what we believe and latino is were not elon musk right? i mean, this message of that they're going to cut taxes. it's going to actually benefit latinos that are significantly lower income
6:47 am
scale is significant, right and so i think that's really one of the big challenges that we have to, one for ana. >> thanks so much for being with us. appreciate your time, sir. sir. >> all right. we have some breaking news share with you at this hour. what we're learning about the former omicron bri and fitch ceo arrested in connection to sex trafficking case and stuck in the middle of two rocks, not the way you'd want to spend seven hours. >> what happened here? how did this end up like this will talk about these stories and more ahead this situation with wolf blitzer denied it six, what cnn, if you have chronic kidney disease, you can reduce the risk of kidney failure with parsi because they are places you'd like to be for secret can cause serious side effects, including ketoacidosis that may be fatal, dehydration, urinary tract, or genital yeast infections and low blood sugar. >> a rare life-threatening bacterial infection in the skin perineum could occur, stopped
