mean, just horrific allegations and one that was just one of the men that came forward. >> there were several that came forward in the documentary following that there was a civil lawsuit against jefferies. you might all remember this because abercrombie and fitch was dealing with it while jeffries again, was no longer the ceo, having to re-brand itself, have to change all of its management. but then right after that, that's when the nypd, the eastern district of new york, the fbi, all got involved and they started this investigation. and this seems to be the fruits of their labor. so we'll see how this continues. >> we will see as these new details keep on coming up. brynn gingras. thank you. so much, sara. oh, i should say the next hour of cnn news central, brand new hour with new information begins right now kamala harris will be back in battleground, pennsylvania for a cnn town hall and taking questions from voters, still trying to make up their minds at this late hour. >> and while she's preparing
5:01 am
for that, her opponent, donald trump, is facing fallout from two new explosive details in articles published his former chief of staff pulling him a fascist to praised hitler. and warning. he'll be a dictator if he wins another term in right now, secretary of state, anthony blinken is me getting with saudi leaders after urging israel to capitalize on the death of hamas leader and end the war in gaza i'm sara sidner with kate bolduan and john berman this is cnn new central >> and the latest this morning, more than 20 million people have already voted early in states across the country election day is today. today also, vice president kamala harris is gearing up to face undecided voters. on cnn, she will be on this stage tonight in pennsylvania for a cnn town
5:02 am
hall. as for donald trump, he is facing new questions about what he really believes and what he has said overnight, trump's longest serving chief of staff retired marine general john kelly went on the record telling the new york times that trump's certainly an authoritarian admires people who are dictators. he has said that so he certainly falls into the general definition of fascist for sure, john kelly says, he also told the atlantic in a separate interview about conversations that he had with donald trump after trump reportedly said that he needed the kind of generals that hitler had general kelly saying to that, that he asked donald trump. he basically said, surely you can't mean hitler's generals. kelly says that trump responded that that is exactly what he meant. yeah, yeah. hitler's generals, he said trump responded. trump's campaign is firing back cnn's political director david chalian joining me right now, trumps campaign saying this is fabricated, and this is false still, it is what it is and it
5:03 am
is out there now. but let's first start with where you are, david, and then we'll add this into it. you're there in pennsylvania at the site of the cnn town hall? where it kamala harris will be this evening. what do you think is her main task tonight? what is the one big thing that you're watching for we've talked about this a ton that given that i think this is her 95th day as a presidential candidate that she is still actually getting known by the american public, which is not usual so late in a campaign and so i think one of the main goals for her for is to show voters in these closing 13 days her ability to communicate with voters like them to hear their concerns here. >> they're questions and address them directly. i think we haven't seen a ton of her in that kind of setting and this is an opportunity for her to both make the affirmative
5:04 am
case for her candidacy. but as we've been seeing from her on the campaign trail every day, i have no doubt she's going to draw the contrast with donald trump. every opportunity she gets. but in talking to her campaign, those two things, the affirmative case for her and the contrast with trump. that's something they have to do every single day. a, all the way through yeah. so trump's campaign is pushing back on these explosive comments from john kelly trump's campaign calling them false and fabricated what's very not clear at this moment is what, what impact, if any, they will have, right >> i mean, i think that history has proven to be a good guide here over the last nine years that the things that are unthinkable that we learned donald trump has said or what he is told people in confidence or behind closed doors and those emerge and explosive news reports and time and time
5:05 am
again, we don't see that moving the needle all that much politically now, i will say as you know, there's this and you just mentioned there are more than 20 million people have already voted kate, so there's this very winnowing field of truly undecided voters or persuadable voters. they it's a very narrow slice that both trump and harris are pursuing. so might this be a new data point to be introduced to those voters? may cause them to sway. sure. do i think that's going to change the calculus of the election of probably not, but you're right, we simply don't know what we do know is it is totally unprecedented to have your former chief of staff, your former homeland security secretary a well decorated general in the u.s military to say that he is the only president that seems to go against the grain of what america stands for, of america being america, that, that is not part of his equation, that
5:06 am
is truly remarkable to hear from john kelly again, whether or not it impacts the final 13 days of this race, i think that's remains to be seen yeah. >> it's great to see you, david, you laid out perfectly a big night tonight. david chalian, thank you so much, john. >> all right. with us now, jim messina, former obama campaign manager and ceo of the messina group, and maura gillespie, former press adviser to then house speaker john on baner and founder and principal of bluestack strategies. i want to play the sound that kate in david were talking about just there. john kelly on the record out loud in an interview with the new york times, listen that he did some good things to end, of course if you know history again, i think he's lacking in that but if you know what his you know, hitler was all about, viewed be pretty hard to make an argument that she did anything good so jim,
5:07 am
what is the campaign managers playbook say you're supposed to do when your opponent is quoted as praising hitler you put it on tv, you talk about it. >> do you have the candidates talk about it? and that's what the harris campaign is doing. harris has began reading from some of the quotes and trump has said recently, they're clearly going to seize on these explosive allegations. david chalian's point before we're sitting here 13 days out and voters are starting and make up their mind. we're down to about 4% of voters who are undecided here. and this is another fact that the harris campaign is going to try to use to say to these voters, this guy is not in it for you, come to us because we are and it'll help and i guarantee you, kamala harris addresses it tonight in the cnn town hall. >> what about maura? >> how much time should she spend if it's up to her on hitler versus an economic plan
5:08 am
policy plans. she's going to put forward if people want to know, they're looking for any excuse to vote for donald trump, right? those who are on the fence, they're looking for any excuse now to so that they're really looking at okay. give me something to go on here. it doesn't necessarily mean she could hit on the hitler thing. all she wants and i would too, but i was focused on what moving forward looks like. we already know donald trump is and what he has said and what people in the military, senior leaders in the military have come out and said against him people who worked with him closely for years have said against him and so for those trump supporters that are die-hard, they're going to stick with him no matter what they don't believe it but i think for those undecideds and for those who are looking for an excuse to vote for one way or the other this is one reason they may not necessarily go vote for kamala harris. i don't think that some of them will, but for them not to vote for donald trump is a win for her. i would think but again, it's not necessarily something about okay. what can i pull them over to vote for her? can i get them to stay away from voting for donald trump jim, what else do you think? >> harris needs, to do at this
5:09 am
town hall, what's the checklist well, first of all, she's got to lay out a very clear vision for what she wants to do for this country. >> and, you know, she's only been in this race 90 days. people are still getting to know her and talking about her story, who she is an incredibly powerful story of why she's in this and now she came from the middle-class grassroots that so many of these voters do and then to she has to draw a very clear contrast with donald trump. she can do both of those things and modern campaigns. and in this moment, she needs to do both of those things. and i think that's what you've seen her do day after day you know, these these voters are just starting to pay attention here. it's now just about time. and so i think this will be a well watched town hall in pennsylvania tonight. and i think you're going to see your draw a very clear contrast with donald trump in more, i want to ask both of you this, but you first harris did an interview with nbc where she was asked about the possibility that on election night, whoever's ahead, donald trump will declare victory. what will you
5:10 am
do in harris basically said, look we're on this, we've got teams that people who are standing at the ready to deal with this more as that no the concerns people have and people are right to have concerns given what happened in 2020 and the months that followed i think that the comments coming out from general kelly, the comments he made during a rally yesterday, north carolina talking and praising dictators this should really concern people. >> but it also, as you can turn the republican party who are looking to win in the house and the senate. they should really be concerned about these comments because it doesn't bode well for them. if voters get turned off by somebody purporting to want to be a dictator and has no qualms about saying that i, so i do think that harris tonight aides to really reinforce that that they are prepared for what happens when trump does say that the election is fraud before we even have the
5:11 am
elections are the result. i mean, i think he will. so it's a concern, but if i were her tonight speaking candidly, i think that she should really focus on women, especially pets so pena, bucks county, things like that, talk a little bit of what wala make it a little while reference. i think that'll go along way with pennsylvania enjoy the moment and try and really embrace the future of the country. not always looking backwards. >> yes, well, we'll always cells and remember it's a commonwealth not a state, jim to you, the idea that look, elections don't end anymore. someone who runs campaigns, they don't end it anymore when the last vote is gas, no know in the old days, you would know on election night whether you want and the race would be over. and now we're going to fight this out in the courts. john the trump campaign. and its affiliates have already filed 100 lawsuits in the battleground states going after everything from early votes to voting by mail to voting locations and what they're trying to do is set up a legal fight after the election. and i think we'll be right back here
5:12 am
talking about all these fights. it's sad, but we know what he's going to do. we did it in 2020. he's going to attempt to steal this election and we're going to be right back at it. having to have the courts deal with some of these issues. >> the important thing that voters need to know is your vote counts. your vote matters whether you cast it today, early in person or by mail, or on november 5, maura gillespie, jim messina. thanks to both of you. appreciate it. sara happening at this hour, secretary of state anthony blinken is in saudi arabia meeting with leaders as we speak and calling on israel to get the half just home and end the war as millions of people vote early across the country, election officials are fighting a flood of misinformation and fraud accusations. >> we will talk about those plus the doj has indicted in iranian official for allegedly planning a murder for hire plot against an iranian in american journalist. >> those details ahead
5:13 am
before election day, vice president harris basis it's voters and takes the pressing questions, lie anderson cooper moderates a cnn presidential town hall. >> kamala harris, tonight at nine eastern on cnn the world can be a big complicated place with opinions and hot takes everywhere about what tiktoks keyword filter we can block certain content from showing up in her for you feed. >> so that's one less thing to worry about. he word filters on tiktok what a dinner, great call making tacos on a monday. >> thank you. speaking to calls, i call today and got my new medicare advantage plan. is that different from a medicare part c plan medicare part c is also known as medicare advantage and part c plans can change every year. >> i found out i was eligible for a new plan with additional benefits and savings. i didn't get last year. have you called yet? >> i haven't gotten around to it right now. >> is the medicare annual enrollment periods. so now is the time to call and see if

5:18 am
absolutely. >> and hopefully you've also seen some of these officials from states and prominent counties jumping in on social media, jumping in to try to debunk this stuff as fast as possible. but as you pointed out, a lot of this stuff has already ricocheting around the internet and this isn't new. it's the claims of machines flipping votes. it's the notion that if it takes a while to count oh, then election officials must be up to something. it's widespread fraud among mail ballots, things that just aren't happening, but have become such popular claims especially in the conservative ecosystem and i want to play one. they got spun out of control in the last couple of days and it's based on georgia secretary of state brad raffensperger. he was on cbs over the week began where he was actually debunking another claim about machines flipping votes and he was asked about how the counting is going to play out in georgia. and important question, take a listen all early votes and all early accepted ballots. they all will have to have their results reported by 8:00 p.m. that's 70, maybe even 75% of all the vote totals will be
5:19 am
reported no later than 8:00 p.m. on election night. >> won't take seven days to tabulate votes, as he said absolutely not. >> we will be waiting for is the overseas ballots that come in no later than friday. >> and so those will then be the final numbers and we'll just see if that makes a difference in the total vote totals. >> so you see him pointing out in a razor thin race, he's military ballots. he's overseas. ballots may matter, will conservatives took what he said, whipped it up and made it sound like the georgia secretary of state was saying there's absolutely no way we're going to have results for three days. they made it sound like he was suggesting that that last 25% of the outset danon vote was all military and overseas ballots. again something he didn't say you still have the election day vote there, but you see how people can try to twist these words and take them out of control. and this is as you see there all happening while people are going to the polls, casting their ballots. there was another prominent example of this kind of conspiracy theory we playing out and terrance county, texas, this is
5:20 am
a place where somebody went in. they cast a ballot. they said the machine flipped their vote. what election officials are saying is that someone went in, they pushed a button on the screen. they said the printed ballot didn't match what they chose. so officials spoil the ballot, gave them a new ballot. they cast it and taryn county elections said teran hi elections has no reason to believe votes are being switched by the voting system. again, they're going to be instances where a voter goes to the polls, they hit the wrong button. they may see a different result than what they did and election officials are really wary. they don't want to blame voters. they want to be there to help voters solve the issue, whatever it may be. but they're just again, no evidence anywhere in the country that machines are flipping the vote. sara could be user error, but boy, there are so much misinformation. >> i'm seeing it on a daily basis and we know sara murray that it is going to ramp up as we go into these last few days before the election. thank you so much for clearing given all of that up. appreciate it.

senior official in the islamic revolutionary guard corps with participating in the failed plot to assassinate a human rights activists and journalists masih alinejad this attempt happened back in july of 2022. >> the justice department now has released a superseding indictment just yesterday about all of this. cnn's zach cohen joins me now is more details on exactly what's happening here. what more what more are you learning about the charges and the man now being named?
5:26 am
>> yeah. it's significant that prosecutors are now accusing an iranian government official for the first time by name of participating in this alleged plot. it's murder for hire plot targeting a journalist in new york and look, prosecutors are taking issue and pointing out the severity of these charges, saying that it shows a raw and the reach in the extent and of irans plot to try to assassinate people who speak out against the regime. even those on us soil. and this official, this iranian official who is named in these new, newly unsealed charging documents is named rule abbas gandhi. he's described as a brigadier general in the iranian revolutionary guard corpse. he's described as a former counterintel, leader of a counterintelligence it's unit for the irgc as well. he was sanctioned back in 2023 by the treasury department for allegedly participating in similar murder for hire targeting other dissidents and others who spoke out against iran as well. so this is somebody who is well-known to us officials, to prosecutors, and now is being called out by name and in this case, related
5:27 am
to masih alinejad, that iranian journalist who is based in new york and prosecutors say that this plot was actually disrupted as one of the suspects was on their way to murder alinejad in new york. that's just kind of gives you a sense of how close prosecutors described this, of actually being successful being carried out on the others involved in charge in this case are includes some eastern european individuals who prosecutors say were part of a crime syndicate. these were the individuals who the iranian officials directed to carry out the alleged plot. so it remains to be seen what goes to the process here, but a significant moment as an a big picture sense bi, and us intelligence agencies have been warning iran is becoming increasingly aggressive in trying to carry out plots like this, not just targeting journalists, but also government officials and others on us soil who have been very strong in their opposition to the iranian regime yeah, it's the details coming out. it's pretty crazy. thank you so much, zach. thanks for laying

5:33 am
group of voters in every election is worth watching. >> i'm talking about independence and with a declaration of independence that in cnn senior data reporter, harry enten is here. what do we know about the independence right now, i will never declare my independence from you. >> my dear friend. all right, what do we know about independence, right center of the electorate. you go last time around joe biden won these voters by 11 points. you will look at september of 2024, a month ago, kamala harris was up five points among independents. you look now though, look at this she's only up by two points among a key block center of the electorate down nine points where we're from. biden was at the end of the 2020 campaign. of course, this is a national picture. this is a national picture. what is going on in those key battleground states, michigan, pennsylvania, wisconsin, the great lakes that blue wall oh, right. joe biden, last time around 1:00 a.m. by five points over donald trump. look at where we are today. this is the type of movement donald trump likes to see in the center of the electorate up by a point. now of course that's well within any margin
5:34 am
of error, right? but again, it's the movement. it's the trends mr. berman that we're looking at. and when you flip a group from going on classified biden to now plus one trump. that's the type of movement donald trump loves the c and it's a type of movement that i think gives democrats some agitator you saw nationally, you see it in the blue wall states there. what do we know about candidates who have won or lost independence in the past? yeah, our independence determinative of who wins the election. usually the way independents go, so goes the nation. >> so candidates who won independence in elections since 1,950 to look at this one, independence won the election 15 lost the election despite winning independence just three. so it is possible to lose independence and win the election, but the bottom bottom line is that's only happened three times. it was nixon and 68, it was ford and 76 and it was carrying 2004. normally when you win independence, john, it's a very good sign for your chances to win the election in any sense, among the people who are identifying is independence. now what
5:35 am
they're saying or how they're feeling, or why we're seeing yet, why are we seeing this movement in the electorate? perhaps a way from the democrats towards donald trump. and this is true overall. this is true among independents as well. view is too liberal, right? are you out of the mainstream perhaps 38% that 38 percent said that of joe biden back in 2020. now that number is up to 48% for kamala harris versus the 40% or so who see trump is too conservative. the bottom line is harris, may be a little bit too out of the mainstream, at least compared to donald trump when we're talking ideologically you can look at the trends they are pointing in a direction when it comes to independents. now, harry enten, thank you. thank you very, very much all right back to some of the top news we're overnight and new comments and the new warning from donald trump's former and longest serving chief of staff marine general john kelly kelly speaking on the record in a series of interviews just out saying that trump fits the definition of fascist and also
5:36 am
confirming trump's affinity for hitler and hitler's generals according to john kelly, i want to play for you what kelly told the new york times overnight myers people who are dictators. >> he has said that so he certainly falls into the general definition of fascist for sure, the economy are the ones that does it. what did some good things to win? >> of course you know, history again, i think he's lacking in that. what if you know what his, you know, hitler was all about viewed be pretty hard to make an argument that he did anything good? >> john kelly also spoke with the atlantic. kelly says that he wants asked donald trump, then president trump about his statement that he had generals like hitler had surely you can't mean hitler's generals. kelly asked him trump responded that that is exactly what he hee meant. yeah, yeah, hitler's generals joining us right now
5:37 am
is republican governor of new hampshire, governor chris sununu. it's good to see you, governor, thanks for being here hearing that mean, does that change how you feel about donald trump and your plans to vote for him? >> no. look, i respect general kelly. i think he's great. he's got a long-term relationship with the president when you get into these final weeks, it's all about, it's all about results. so of course you're gonna get salacious thing said and all that. and i'm not taking away the generals conversation with the former president. but at the end of the day you just what that poll that your team was just looking at upending independence, what results they don't want that kind of ultra, ultra liberal extremism. they want to be told the truth. they want to get their cost of living down that's where voters are going to go. so it's not just a chris sununu thing or a general kelly thing. if you're talking to the american voters out there, they just need a cultural change coming now to washington. so look, we've heard a lot of extreme things about donald trump from donald trump, it's kind of par for the course. it's really

unfortunately, with a guy like that is kind of baked into the vote at this point. so those last swing voters are just going to kind of push towards what's going to get, get a little ease on my, on my family little ease on the cost of living i hear your political on your astute political analysis on the kind of the state of play because as we have seen, i was talking about with david chalian earlier, history has shown in donald trump's political career that there are, that things are baked in the extreme that things that he said says do not move the needle one way or the other in a broad sense, may be when it comes to a narrow few voters which this election could come down to. >> but that's something different. but in saying that you are going. and i know you have you've talked about you've talked about it to me, said you're going to support the ticket and that's what matters to you and supporting the ticket and saying that that is saying that you're going to support someone who marine general john kelly says fits the definition of fascist for sure. >> he says, he says that john
5:39 am
kelly says that trump quote certainly prefers the dictator approach to government in supporting the ticket. that is something that you're supporting, is that something you are okay with? >> no look, i don't think anybody should be okay with statements like that. of course. and if there's ever anyone you don't want any sort of comparison to its hitler and all of that sort of thing. as we've discussed before, i think what it's not just what chris sununu is going to be voting for. i think most of america is going to go this way. i do think trump wins this thing in the end and it's about that change people are willing to say, look, i don't like his style, i don't like his approach. i don't like the things he says, but if we can get a republican mindset out of washington that says, you come first as an individual, not big governments, states rights matter, regulatory reforms were going to cut regulation out. we're going to make things a little easier in terms of costs. we're going to do he handled the inflation. i know i know the media likes to talk about the salacious stuff, but i'm just trying to say whether it's chris sununu or 50% plus one voter that are likely going to win this thing for trump. that's what america kid. i
5:40 am
don't know any american that would like any of those comments right now, there's nobody in america that would like to likes to hear that conversation about a potential for future president of the nights states but that's how bad things are. that's how bad the harris campaign has run things. that's how bad her messages and that's how bad the last three-and-a-half years has been for a lot of americans, they're willing to say, look, we'll hold our nose will vote for trump. we need that culture change in administration that puts people in this country first and i've been hearing you, you're putting yourself in the same category. you're ready to hold your nose hold your nose and vote for trump as well. still, i want to ask you about former republican congresswoman liz cheney and her appeal. >> very directly to former nikki haley supporters, supporters that you spoke to and campaign with? >> two over and over again in the primary, i wanna play for you. what she said when she was campaigning with kamala harris in michigan if people are uncertain if people are thinking well, you know, i'm a, conservative, i don't know that
5:41 am
i can support vice president harris. >> i would say i don't know if anybody is more conservative than i am and you can vote your conscience and not ever have to say a word to anybody. and there will be millions of republicans who do that on november 5, governor, what do you think of that appeal from liz cheney donald trump have a personal hatred of each other. >> it's a personality thing. she made it her mission to go after him. that's her choice to do. i'm not taking anything away from that so that's a personality thing. more than anything else. in fact, her words actually say it. she's ultra conservative, but she's going to vote for one of the most liberal presidents a potential president, joe candidates in history, same with john kelly i have tons of respect for general kelly, but let's understand. there's a personal divide between him and the former president. so i think everyone's understanding you gotta take though those types of comments from those specific individuals with a grain of salt. i don't get
5:42 am
along with the president hasn't called me lately anymore and i don't again, i wish we had a different candidate. i worked really hard to get nikki haley on that ticket. but at the end of the day, results matter, results have to matter for the american people. with all due respect to liz cheney and general kelly they've done great service. but if anything that defines a personal conflict, not really based on policy, not based on where this country is going to go and not really based on i think that the culture, that cultural change that has to come up, people are tired of wokeism. they're tired of being told that biden and bidenomics work. they're tired of these lies out of washington that in these ads and all this talk that basically says, hey, you're lived experience isn't real, don't worry, you haven't trouble paying the bills? no. no. we told you bidenomics worked for you. it's absolutely condescending for the harris campaign to keep pushing that kind of message. and that's exactly why you're seeing those independents that you guys were just talking about. that's why you're seeing that swing. it's not but just you're too liberal. it's that you've lied to us for three-and-a-half years, you've
5:43 am
gaslighted us, tolling us, telling us that our lived experiences that real. so again, with all due respect to those two, they clearly have some personality issues with the former president. don't blame them for that. lot of people do get in line ticket ticket on that one. but at the end of the day, i think this is where the election is going to go in the next two weeks one thing about we'll leave it, but one thing about liz cheney. i will say is that yes, maybe personal beef as you're laying out for sure. but she also lays out very clearly that it has to do with policy. she does not like the policies that donald trump also stands for because she says they're also antithetical to conservative values as well. but still, i hear, i see you and i hear your analysis with what you're giving us this morning. thank you, governor. thanks for coming in. sara. >> all right. right. now, secretary of state, anthony blinken is in saudi arabia, fresh off his visit to israel as he continues to push for a ceasefire in gaza and the release of the hostages being held by hamas. there earlier, blinken urged israel to turn its military winds into a path for peace it's managed to
5:44 am
dismantle hamas's military capacity is destroyed. much of its arsenal. >> it's eliminated, its senior leadership, including most recently yes. >> yes, sinwar. >> this has come at the cost rate, cost to palestinian civilians in gaza now is the time to turn those successes since into an enduring strategic success and they're really two things left to do get the hostages home and bring the war to an end. >> and with an understanding of what will follow cnn's chief global affairs correspondent matthew chance is in jerusalem, a matthew, can you tell us a bit more about exactly what blinken meetings are today? he's going to saudi arabia. where are we meeting with leaders there to discuss what role the region can play in bringing about those objectives of ending the war in gaza,
5:45 am
getting the hostages released, and working out what the strategy is going to be a, what gaza is going to look like. for instance, once the war is eventually finished. but at the moment, there is no clear answer to any of those questions is no solutions. i mean, for first and foremost, yahya sinwar is dead. the hamas leader that's true at the moment. there's no want to necessarily negotiate with because i'm asking hasn't appointed a new leader yet. and when that leader is appointed, it's not clear what the negotiation position of that person will be. in addition, benjamin netanyahu is very much being guided by the right-wing partners in his coalition government here in israel. and they want the war to persist in gaza. they wanted expanded in lebanon and to bring in iran as well. there are anticipated military actions being planned by israel against iran shortly, we understand and so yeah, the same time this is the 11th visit of secretary blinken to
5:46 am
the region since the october 7 attacks and you get the sense watching each of those visits that these israeli authorities are increasingly immune to the kind of pressure the u.s. us secretary of state and the biden administration is placing on israel to rein back in its military objectives and to push further its supply of aid into areas of gaza where there's a humanitarian crisis and so it is difficult. all of this, of course, against the backdrop of that peter election campaign in the united states. and netanyahu are very much sort of pushing forward his own agenda here matthew chance. thank you so much. pleasure to see you there and great reporting. appreciate it. kate. >> and ohio school resource officer is now on administrative leave after surveillance video shows him repeating really punching a student in the head, more on that and a 25-year-old candidate for state senate in georgia is hoping to unseat one of the things take electors who

5:52 am
it seems to be sticking around longer than we're used to as i sniffle, you can get a sense of that cnn chief medical correspondent, dr. sanjay gupta is back with us to answer your question. >> she is about battling fall allergies sanjay, mandy, and i want to know what is the best over-the-counter option for treating allergies yeah i'll tell you that the allergy season this year is stronger and longer for sure. >> so it's not in your head. i mean, this has just been worse for a lot of people histamine is the problem. that's what's causing you to have all the symptoms. so a medications that are antihistamines or what you want to look for. and there's a lot of them out there, you know, there's lots of choices nowadays. the old generation patients antihistamines, they would typically make you sleepy because histamine also keeps you awake. so antihistamines would make you sleepy, but these new medications are pretty good at being non drowsy. a couple of things. first of all, symptoms are typically worse. first thing in the morning, actually 4:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. so taking these medications a night before probably a good idea if you
5:53 am
have significant symptoms than using something that also has dna, it decongestant that can be helpful, but that, that actually has some side effects that can keep you awake. nervousness, sleeplessness so don't take those the night before but the other ones you can take throughout the allergy season, john, that's what i'd recommend trying to take those the night before you get a pretty early, but i can help you. certainly when you're anchoring your show, here the night before is practically the morning for me. >> look, i like to get outside. right. it part of the reason this is all happening, it's like the yard work, your mole in the law on your raking the leaves and it just kicks everything up. it gets in your head, came from indiana? says that when she exercises, she feels stuffy and congested even with an allergy pills, she wants to know how could you go outdoors while not suffering for the rest of the day well, again, i just want to say that this has been a particularly bad allergy season as the weather has gotten warmer, there's not been a first frost so once that once that first frost happens, allow these symptoms will get a lot better for people. >> so there's some hope in sight there but again, a couple of things. one is that if
5:54 am
you're taking these medications regularly, not just when you have symptoms, but regularly. that's probably going to be a pretty good bet. >> the allergies when you're outside, the symptoms are going to be sort of worst midday. >> so that's probably the worst time of day to sort of be outside and finally, john, one thing you may have noticed as a runner once you start to run and you're releasing that epinephrine into your body. your symptoms actually start to improve that actually get that helps alleviate some of the allergy symptoms so the beginning of your exercise is probably going be the worst. but again, it should improve as the exercise goes along. >> yeah, once you get going, actually you get pretty clear and that lasts for like half an hour an hour after you we're fine it all comes back and plagues you. but this is really helpful stuff. dr. sanjay gupta, thank you very much. >> you don't want other things like i feel stuffy, the mute, the minute we start talking about allergies, like it's like immediately i'm like, i think i need morality speaking and here we go. >> other news we're tracking this morning is school resource officer and akron, ohio is on administrative leave after
5:55 am
being caught on valence video punching a student at least three times in the head, akron public schools released the footage of the incident, according to a police report leading up to the incident, the student ignored several requests to go through a metal detector once he finally did his cell phone triggered an alarm the officer apparently said he reacted the way he did to quote, keep the schools safe no weapons were found on that student this morning, the cdc says, one person has died 49 others are sick after an e coli outbreak at mcdonald's. and the cdc says it's all linked to the mcdonald's quarter pounder initial investigations into the outbreak of pinpointed chopped onions as the likely source of contamination. mcdonald's also said that they've stopped using the onions. mcdonald's president says the fast-food giant has pulled quarter-pound hundreds and nearly a dozen of the affected states stressing that the majority of its menu items are not impacted. >> sara all right. >> thank you. kate, a fake

elector indicted in georgia alongside donald trump is running for reelection. georgia state senator sean still running again. he won his senate seat in 2022, even after information surface about his activities our next guest is 25-years-old and running for senate against him, joining us now is also when ramaswamy, you are running as a democratic candidate for the georgia state senate seat. that still now has, how do you plan to unseat an incumbent? and you're first foray really into politics going for a senate seat is really difficult. >> well, one is never too young to do the right thing. and this is my hometown and my goal is to fight for the issues that actually matter for the people here. whether that's gun safety to protect students at schools, whether it's by overturning are abortion ban and georgia to protect access to it you productive health care. and just showing that
5:57 am
contrast between someone like me who's from the area, who represents the future and the investment we need versus shawn still who isn't even from georgia, has been criminally indicted for trying to overturn the election results, has lied to folks about his military service. he's not a veteran and he said he was and he's also been attacking me and young people like me with racist smears and attacks. i think it's very clear to folks that here's a contrast we have and we need this kind of leadership is going to take us to the future and not bring us back i do am curious about your what you did before this before you decided to run, you were working for the cybersecurity and infrastructure security agency, which is an agency that literally works on election security, trying to protect the integrity of our elections your opponent, you've mentioned a fake elector running again and there are several other states where fake electors like
5:58 am
michigan, six out of 15 current gop electors are facing charges in the fake elector scheme so what did you learn as a person that worked for sosa what was happening there? >> what were you seeing that sparked your interest in deciding to run? >> so here's what i saw at sza. i saw that there were officials democratic and republican across the country who are committed to protecting our right to vote. and i was proud to be a part of that and really worked to ensure that our vote was counted. but what happened after 2020 was we saw the pattern of trump's loss why in fact, trump far the director of says a chris krebs for correctly saying that the election was free and fair. i soon realized that the biggest threat to our democracy is not just foreign hackers hacking into her election, it's domestic politicians like donald trump, shawn still and his allies. and so that's exactly what i decided that i needed to come back home. and
5:59 am
run for office so that i can actually make the difference and ensure those kinds of folks are an office because for every minute shawn stole spends in a courtroom, that's a minute. he can't focus on things that matter to us, whether it's protecting students in schools, access to reproductive health care. and it's protecting our right thank to vote i want to ask you about because you are a gen z generation. >> we've just heard that's just happened. president obama was on a podcast this morning and here's what he said about young voters and going to the polls old people decide your future. you wouldn't do that about your music. you wouldn't do that a bunch of clothes. but you're going to let them decide what your future, your potential careers, what the environment is going to look like. you're going to let them decide that he said that on the young man of the three podcasts, well, this message
6:00 am
resonate with young voters or rile them up resonate, i think this trend we're seeing gen z candidates like me are further this idea that young people do see that we can make a difference in politics, but it requires all of us to be aware and we have to go out and votes. >> so my message to young people is to make sure that go out and vote. if you can tell all your friends developed, if you want to get involved with mike campaign, you can go to washington for georgia.com. you can volunteer, you can support, ensure that we have young representation in office because that's how we make the difference for the future when ramaswamy, it's just wonderful to see someone who is young, who was gen-z, who is looking at politics really seriously and certainly going to encourage people to vote. >> thank you so much. appreciate your time this morning. a new hour of cnn new central starts right now
