decades in the white house following his assassination in 18, 18651 of the more humorous tales belongs to british prime minister winston churchill, who was staying in the lincoln bedroom while visiting franklin roosevelt according to an account retold in the washington post, churchill had just stepped out of a hot bath in the lincoln bedroom and was wearing nothing but a cigar when he encountered lincoln by the fireplace good evening, mr. president churchill reportedly said, you seem to have me the disadvantage. what do we think is the white house wanted it should have been there what was the ghost of lincoln wearing definitely a top hat and nothing else do base were close? i'm trying

morning, the boston red sox are still the only baseball team ever to come back from a 3-0 series deficit so congratulate to them for their place in history. >> accordingly, today show is brought to you by the number of 55 games for the dodgers to win the world series with a fifth in a rally with five days left in the election today, kamala harris and donald trump both head to events in arizona and nevada with harris focused on reminding voters what a trump supporter said about puerto rico. with trump reminding voters what a harris supporter said it's about garbage. trump also raising eyebrows saying what he would do for women, whether they like it or not about four weeks ago, i would say no, i want to protect the people. >> i want to protect the women of our country. i want to protect the women, sir. please don't say that why? they said we think it's we think it's

very inappropriate for you to say so why? i'm president, i want to protect the women of our country. well i'm gonna do it whether the women like it or not. i've got to protect them morning. let's get to cnn's steve contorno with the very latest. good morning to you, sir actually practice that line ahead of that speech last night at his earlier rally in north carolina and asked his crowd, do you want to be protected? >> and they overwhelmingly, the women in that crowd said yes, but the problem for donald trump is his rally audience is not necessarily reflective at all of the overall voting population mission. in fact, take a look at this latest abc poll of likely women voters, vice president harris comes in at 56% to donald trump's 42. that's a 14 point gap there, and that is something that republicans have been concerned about for months leading up to this race. and our increasingly

raising the alarm of over you saw nikki haley's remarks about donald trump's quote, overly masculine. msg rally, not not doing enough to add votes yesterday as well. charlie kirk, who is a very important ally for donald trump because his organization turning point is in charge of trump's ground game in several states he issued this warning on social media writing quote early vote has been disproportionately female if men stay at home, kamala is president. it's that simple. so that those are the stakes. donald trump, though it continues to push toward pulling out his base, especially by seizing and president biden's remarks about supporters being garbage. take a look at what he said yesterday continuing to get mileage out of those remarks how do you like my garbage truck is in honor of kamala and joe biden. joe biden should be ashamed of himself if he knows what he's even doing and she should be ashamed because she

shouldn't let him do she's the vice president. but i assume she's acting as the president. she should never have let that happen. >> i hope you enjoyed this garbage truck trump now heads out west for a trip to several swing states, although he will also step outside of the traditional battleground map with a rally in albuquerque, new mexico, before heading to nevada and arizona, john. >> alright. steve contorno will just note that no. from charlie kirk, they're contained a sexist line after the one you read their. so the message very, very clear. steve contorno. thank you very much and today, vice present. >> kamala harris is headed out west, heading to phoenix, also, we for making two stops in nevada. she ends the night in las vegas where she's going to be joined by general for lopez, one of the many boldface latinos who have jumped in to support harris especially after the garbage remarks that were sparked by trump's msg rally that we've been talking about cnn's jeff zeleny joins us from madison, wisconsin. were both harris and donald trump

campaign yesterday and jeff harris is also responding to trump's take now how he's talking about protecting women, what she saying and what is her campaign planning to do with it >> it was those comments from former president donald trump in green bay, wisconsin. it certainly coffee a fresh attention of the harris campaign and the vice president and i would not be at all surprised if sheet references those again, as she leaves wisconsin, she'll be waking up here and traveling out west to those western battleground states. the gender gap in this campaign in the closing days is one of the most important things we are watching in terms of an outcome next week, harris has a strong lead among women, donald trump of course, is doing much better among men. but the harris it's campaign was seizing on those comments that former president made about protecting women. now at her rally last night here, she's also trying to draw a contrast of course put the former president, but at the same time trump trying to reach

president was here because early voting is so key in this race, of course, and the deadline in some counties as friday, others as sunday here in wisconsin, that is why both donald trump and kamala harris are coming back to wisconsin on friday. of course, the blue wall, so important in both of their strategies for strongest path to the white house, it was the narrowest margin of the three states, four years ago. that's why all of their focus, at least a lot of it is on wisconsin, even as they travel out west today. essentially, these candidates are chasing one another absolutely right? >> and speaking the blue wall, jeff, there's new polling showing that harris has a narrow, narrow advantage in two blue wall states really fascinating of the three states pennsylvania, michigan, and wisconsin in pennsylvania, of course that is the biggest battleground prize of all 19 electoral votes are polling shows that the former president and vice president harris are tied there. >> we know that vice president harris will end her campaign

with a big rally in philadelphia after barnstorming pennsylvania on monday. but michigan also so, so key there, a vice president harris has a narrow a narrow edge, but just within the margin in wisconsin, of course, she is a slight edge in the polls, but i am told that both sides are confident here in wisconsin, but again, those undecided voters in the early votes. so key for both harris and trump. >> so great to see you, jeff. thank you so much. >> sara. >> all right. still ahead. why a judge granted a request from the trump campaign to extend a ballot deadline in one key pennsylvania county plus a date has now been set for the menendez brothers to be re-sentenced in california after they murdered their parents. and a wild celebration exciting la after the dodgers clinch the world series in dramatic fashion, will show it all to you

political analysis questions. >> biden said the right both stayed away. why the truck pulled out of 60 minutes. >> i love pulling out network of i got news for you saturday at nine on cnn this is warning elon musk is trying to move a lawsuit against his $1 sweepstakes to federal court that could delay or even cancel a hearing set for today in pennsylvania, which musk was ordered to attend. philadelphia's district attorney is suing musk and his super pac, claiming musk's million dollars giveaway to registered voters violates state law. let's get right to cnn's marshall cohen in
4:24 am
philadelphia for the latest on this marshall hey, john, good morning. >> i am in philadelphia right across the street from the courthouse where we were expecting a high-stakes hearing at 10:00 a.m. where elon musk was required to attend and the judge made that clear in an order yesterday. but this whole thing might be on ice because elon musk and his attorneys rushed to federal court overnight to try to move this case out of the pennsylvania courts and into the federal system. i'll explain in a moment why they want to do that. >> but the bottom line pragmatic result here is a delays almost certain that the hearing won't go on as scheduled and this is a daily sweepstakes that the da here, at least believes is unlawful interference the election every day that it goes forward without being stopped by a judge is a win for elon musk, but you just make that crystal clear. so his lawyers want to
4:25 am
move this into federal court because they think that the da and philly, who is a well-known progressive, is basically abusing the court system to try to stifle his free speech. let me read for you a little bit of what they put in their federal court filing they said that although discussed eyes as state law claims, that complaints focus is to prevent defendants purported interference with the forthcoming federal presidential election by any means, they've had strong words for the da here they have elon musk has agreed with posts on his platform that called this a leftist abuse of the system but look, john, this is not a joke these are million dollars payments the justice department has already warned elon musk's super pac that this could violate federal law. obviously, the da here in philly believed that did it violated state gaming laws as well. but for the moment, it looks like this sweepstakes
4:26 am
will live on to see another day as elon musk spends tons of his own money to try to get donald trump back in the white house. >> any day you can delay court proceedings on this is a win for what musk is trying to do here. marshall cohen, thank you for your reporting on this five days. >> so the country starts counting votes in five days for donald trump to consider if telling women whether you like it or not it's a good idea. and if you're deciding still on a last-minute halloween costume google has the winners and top picks of the season for you it all comes down to this. >> we can now make a major projection cnn can bring it to. you. election night in america, special coverage begins tuesday, november 5 at four on cnn everybody is bobby flay. >> i'm working with green pan, the pioneers of held, up the nonstick to create my new

extending the deadline by three days trump and other republican lawmakers filed the lawsuit in this critical swing county, in this critical swing state, this counties just outside of philadelphia, after voters who showed up to request mail-in ballots were allegedly turned away on tuesday, the last day the service was offered, despite the legal win for the trump campaign and he is still stoking unfounded voter fraud fears about the commonwealth and now says this about about accepting the results in pennsylvania but if they find no evidence of cheating, leave cheating anywhere else i hope
4:32 am
that's going to be win, lose, or draw. i hope that's going to be a lot of caveats there joining me right now is the secretary of state of pennsylvania, the man who's overseeing the elections there, secretary al schmidt secretary. thank you for coming back in bucks county. the application window to get a mail-in ballot was extended through friday as i just mentioned, because after this trump lawsuit, what happened in bucks, do you agree with extending that window? >> pennsylvania doesn't have early voting the way that many other states do so, voters have the option to show up to a local board of elections office, apply for a mail ballot in person, receive that ballot, complete that ballot? return. it all in one visit. >> so it's essentially over-the-counter or mail ballot voting. >> there was a lot of interest this last election and voting or this current election and voting that way some of our counties really struggled with staffing to make sure that they could process long lines of people voting this way, which
4:33 am
is somewhat more labor intensive process and bucks county was one of those so your office has reported some of i think i saw 120,000 in-person requests for mail-in ballots. >> i think that was one that i saw you've got these mail-in ballots that are coming in what do you know so far about who's voting by mail at this point you know, and kate, i think that's one of the more interesting developments this election cycle there are still more democratic voting by mail than republicans but it's been interesting to see republicans embrace mail ballot voting this cycle, or at least are especially this method that i just described to just showing up to your board of elections office, applying in person receiving the ballot and returning the ballot. >> that has been a significant change. so republicans have essentially gone from suing to close those offices down on two, suing them to keeping them open longer. >> which is fascinating. what do you think is attributed to
4:34 am
that is the messaging from republicans themselves just be a broader acceptance that elections in pennsylvania are free fair, safe, and secure, that there are safeguards built into the front of the system. >> when you registered to vote and there's a voter verifiable paper about record of every vote that's cast by a voter everywhere in pennsylvania in every election action that's used, not just to total the results but in two audits to confirm that those results are accurate. so elections in pennsylvania, whether you're a voter or a candidate, should it have confidence in the integrity of our elections and that they are free, fair, safe, and secure. >> i asked about messaging on this secretary because it's donald trump is continuing with his line of messaging on this he the recent posts that he put out to all of his social media followers was pennsylvania is cheating and getting caught at large scale levels, rarely seen
4:35 am
before that's not accurate. we know that we've established that. but how does the constant drumbeat impact poll workers impact the county election officials just doing their jobs our 67 counties to sit down with. their county election directors and one available. >> they're counting commissioners to talk about how the pennsylvania department of state can be of assistance to them in making sure that this election run smoothly. i don't know if they're democrats i don't know if they're republicans. they don't tell me and i don't care what i do know is that they're professionals and their civil servants and there working day and night to make sure that when you show up to cast your vote, your vote will be counted and pennsylvania it's almost surprising that this is a headline. what i'm about to ask you, but that is a statement of where we are today. the georgia secretary of state also republican, republican pledged yesterday to uphold the results of the presidential election, no matter who wins,
4:36 am
raffensperger saying he stands ready to defend the results of the election secretary, will you make that same pledge no matter the pressure that may come at, you come at the common wealth after votes or after the votes are in without any hesitation or reservation as i i'm certain, every other secretary of state would do al schmidt and secretary of the commonwealth of pennsylvania. >> thank you so much. >> sara. all right. joining me now. christine quinn, the executive committee chair for the new york state democratic committee. and trisha mclaughlin, former senior adviser and director of communications for vivek ramaswamy's presidential campaign. thank you both for being here. i want to talk first about something that has sort of taken a life of its own. it's trash talk, pun intended after a trump rally, comedian set off a firestorm calling puerto rico and island of trash. trump is jumping all over this because biden then made a comment about voters being trashed. trump. and now
4:37 am
trump is trying to link those comments to kamala harris so trump has gotten into a dump trunk and where the garbage workers best at his rallies, did biden just give trump a deplorable moment? christine well, i think what we saw was the president biden say something he probably regrets, right and absolutely right. he has walked it back almost immediately. but you know, the person who directed the comment to trump doesn't have a good leg to stand on because he's a man who has said there are enemies within that he has a list of enemies within that he is going to follow up with when he is elected. so should president biden have said that do i think it's right? he apologized and walked it back? yes. but trump really should people in glass houses not throw stones. >> it trisha, if kamala has to own joe biden's comment as trump is insisting, that shouldn't trump have to own the massage anesthetic. racist comments that were made by
4:38 am
surrogates that had his rally harris is culpable for the words of george lopez, who is the comedian. the day before at her rally, saying that all mexicans are these. i don't think donald trump is culpable for the words of a comedian when donald trump was not even in the building. so know that beings but i do think kamala harris should apologize and i think tim walz should apologize for his words saying that americans who go to trump rallies are nazis. i think that's unacceptable. it's divisive rhetoric all right, let's talk about this. >> trump admits his advisers have told him not to use this line about protecting women. he did not listen any added to it. listen about four weeks ago, protect the people. i want to protect the women of our country. i want to protect the women, sir. please don't say that why? they said we think it's we think it's very inappropriate for you to say so why i'm president. i want to
4:39 am
protect the women of our country. well, i'm going do it. whether the women like it or not. i've got to protect them whether the women like it or not doesn't that sound like an odd threat? >> what's the message to women here? trisha i'm certainly less concerned about how donald trump said it versus i am concerned that donald trump said that he would protect women's health care and women's reproductive health care. >> that's incredibly important to me. the fact that him and jd vance back ivf, the fact that he said he would not sign a national abortion ban this is a real area of not only a political vulnerability for republicans, but i think a governance vulnerability for republicans. we've seen major issues and different states where laws have not been carried out the way that they shouldn't be. and the result is that women were hurt or put and very bad medical circumstances. so i'm really glad that donald trump stepped up and said that, and i'm looking forward to hearing more
4:40 am
specifics. >> patricia, you said that he's protecting. one's health care and you talked about women being hurt. some of the women died trying to get emergency care because of the abortion ban that was donald trump's choice of supreme court justices. so how, how do you explain that? two women when making this comment that you're going to protect women, whether they like it or not that should not be happening in this country and unforeseen circumstances, i think republicans, democrats, every, every american leader needs to really govern appropriately on this and make sure that there's these kind of issues not happening in this country. >> and that's why i said we have to get into the specifics here and make sure that women's health is not put at risk for certain. the representation that donald trump has firmly said he would not sign an abortion ban is simply not true. he has both said he wouldn't sign and he would sign it. he has said both. he has waffled back-and-forth and he has said
4:41 am
this issue should go to the states where he knows many of the states would put in an abortion ban that is not leading. and women don't need donald trump diagnosed to take care of them because much of what he is articulate related is against the reproductive and health care freedoms of women. what we do need is leaders who are going to listen to women, listen to doctors listen to medical providers, those leaders or kamala harris and tim walz, not donald trump, and not jd vance all alright, just quickly here the affordable care act has come up and it's come up because of mike johnson, who is the republican speaker of the house he was caught on camera saying this about obamacare, which is very popular. when people are pulled with americans, listen health care reforms can say we're gonna have a very aggressive first hundred days agenda, we got a lot of things on the table. no obamacare the
4:42 am
aca is so deeply ingrained. we need massive reform to make this work and we got a lot ideas on how to do that make this work. >> no, obamacare, he repeated the question being asked. what do you make of this and what should the democrats do in this case? well, they use this for down-ballot races. >> i mean, that is very, very worrisome. it's particularly worrisome because when trump was asked if he had any real plans, because remember, they used to always say repeal and replace. that was years ago when asked replacement when he said he didn't, that he he had started to work up concepts. what that told us is the truth that the republicans just want to repeal the affordable care act and not replace it with anything. and we as democrats know that when we campaign about that it's very compelling to voters. so i would make this a final day issue on the top level for all

of the candidates up and down the ballot we're going to have to leave it there, but i know you will be back and we will discuss more of these policy issues. >> christine quinn, trisha mclaughlin. thank you both so much for coming on this morning. >> thank you. >> thank all right. today, the director of the cia, bill burns, is in egypt discussing possible ceasefire deals, trying to work at least a ceasefire negotiations over gaza and lebanon, cnn's jeremy diamond is in tel aviv this morning. jeremy, what's the latest? >> well, john, there is a flurry of us diplomatic activity happening in the region right now. not only do you have the cia director meeting with the egyptian president didn't to talk about both ceasefire proposals for gaza, as well as lebanon. but you also have two top advisors to president biden, brett mcgurk, and almost hochstein in israel today meeting with israeli officials, hochstein has been focused on the lebanonn ceasefire. mcgurk more focused on the issues with gaza and both so these are very much live balls at the moment. it
4:44 am
does seem like there is perhaps more momentum though and more possibility of progress on the lebanon ceasefire front as we reported yesterday, us israeli and lebanese officials have been pursuing a potential ceasefire deal that could include something like a month or two months long negotiation or implementation period before you ultimately get to final cease-fire agreement that would end the war between israel hezbollah, israeli officials believed that now is the right time to pursue such a ceasefire after having achieved a significant amount of military gains against hezbollah. and it also seems like hezbollah's has kind of shifted its position away from linking a ceasefire to the end of the conflict in gaza after having suffered that drubbing over the course of the last couple of months, including the killer, the killing of its leader hassan nasrallah. we heard some optimism expressed by the lebanese caretaker prime minister yesterday, who hoped that a ceasefire could be
4:45 am
achieved within days or even hours. we should note though that he does not necessarily hold the cards here. this is going to be based off of weather hezbollah and israel can reach a deal, although indirectly of course, through mediators as far as the gaza ceasefire talks, we know that a hamas officials have been meeting with qatari officials to be presented with the latest proposals there for potential short-term ceasefire deal. but right now it remains unclear what hamas will accept whether or not they will be willing to accept some kind of a short-term deal that doesn't ultimately lead to the end of the war in gaza. john, us officials on the ground pushing jeremy diamond. >> thank you very much. >> the north korea says it has tested an intercontinental ballistic missile overnight just days ahead of the us election is we've to be the longest flight time, yet for a north korean missile. the white house called this a flagrant violation of multiple un security council resolutions this comes as north korea appears to be one stepping up its nuclear production and two very clearly strengthening ties

presidential candidates are going to date both will be in the state of nevada. this is a state that joe biden did win four years ago, pretty narrow race there, who owned by 33,000 votes. look at the polls right now. you can see no clear leader is very tight in nevada. here's a news flash. okay. >> it's always pretty tight in nevada, at least it has been recently, as i said, joe biden won by about 33,000 votes, in 2016, hillary clinton won by 27,000 votes, very close. >> there was a senate race. there two years ago, the democrat won by just under 8,000 votes. its tight there. what are the dynamics in nevada that make it this tight? well, it's an urban, rural split. one of the biggest urban rural splits that we see in the entire country clark county, which is where las vegas is. it's 75% of the vote, 75% of the population in nevada,
4:54 am
democrats need to do well in clark county, you can see joe biden, edge, donald trump there 50 4% to 44% amino look like a huge margin. but he was able to bank a surplus of about 90,000 votes from las vegas in clark county end he needed them. why? because you look around at the rural counties, look at the margins that donald trump had 84% 78%, 76%, 75% chest huge margins in the rural. so he banks thousands and thousands of votes in all these rural counties that need to be offset by clark county. now there is one swing county in nevada and that's washoe county out where reno is. you can see the margins here are very, very tight typically, as washoe goes, so goes nevada. joe biden wanted 2016, hillary clinton wanted it just one thing i want to show you. nevada is not big, not a lot of votes, so you're fighting over the same votes in elections can look pretty similar. look at the margins in the presidential race in washoe
4:55 am
county in 2050, 0.8 to 46.3. these were the margins in the senate race, 50.8 to 46.3 in washoe county exactly. the same. they're not a lot of votes at steak elections can look pretty similar. one other thing that people know about nevada who follow politics closely they vote early early in-person and early by mail. now, john ralston, who sort of the lord savior of counting early votes in nevada. he works for the nevada upended this is where the early vote stands in nevada, right now of the ballots that have been returned or in-person republicans have an edge 39.2% to 34% were also notes. this is an edge republicans. he hasn't seen them with this kind of edge before. this could bode well for republicans the unknown is this group right here. the other independence unaffiliated, if kamala harris does very well with them, she could still win. there still time. it's kind of a big unknown right now.
4:56 am
>> absolutely. and as john talking about, that is one key battleground state and one key battleground state were kamala harris and donald trump are essentially chasing each other and having matching travel itineraries in these final days of the election, both headed both held big events in wisconsin yesterday and the heart of the battle, there is happening in the suburbs. cnn's john king is visiting five battleground states in five days as part of his all over the map series here is battleground wisconsin sunrise in the suburbs the walkie on the red side of a critical dividing line in battleground, wisconsin octane coffee is a startup. >> your morning jolt here, prepared by a robot adrian, dc is the founder and ceo. >> this is all of the robotics he grew up in a democratic household, voted twice for barak obama moved to the milwaukee suburbs a decade ago, toppings cold foams self-described moderate, ready to vote? >> the third time for donald trump. >> i just see that donald trump from business-minded standpoint, from a, let's make a deal standpoint and from an
4:57 am
economics financing perspective, i think he's got the right mindset for how the country should be run, how to support small and medium-sized businesses? does are there downsides to him in your view? does he have some character or personality things that go on for shrimp, but i've said you have to separate the message from the messenger some time trump won suburban waukesha county in both 2016 and 2020. but his margin was smaller the second time in wisconsin, flip back to blue. easy believes trump is stronger this time, i would say over the last say six to 12 months definitely a lot urge. trump bump if you want to call him walk a shaw as a key test of whether trump can reverse his suburban slide across the county line in milwaukee a pivotal test for kamala harris to this is the trick will be cafe on milwaukee's north side pay what you can is the motto here, we found a lot of apathy on our first visit to these neighborhoods a year ago have s60 a courtney says the switch to harris ended that you got
4:58 am
some ages younger, you have some gender relatable. you know, you get somebody who understands the issues 40 here's talk more black men are for trump this time. >> she doesn't believe it's a big number, and i've heard what it is that people have said. i've heard people talk about the fact that and she's been a prosecutor and she's put, you know, black man in jail or things like that. well, you know, you had to look at that closely i know if you've done a crime certain come jail. there's nothing that show those that she has a track record of targeting black me in and put them in jail. >> this line for early voting is in sherman park, one of the north side neighborhoods where harris needs high turnout and giant margin what i'm seeing right now any fizzy asm and excitement that's even bigger than when obama won the vice president's chances here depend on the key accord he being right, or at least close to right about that level of enthusiasm, chasm in the black community. joe biden won only 13 of wisconsin, 72 counties and route to his victory here in 2020, how did he do it? run
4:59 am
it up big in the democratic areas, like milwaukee? and hold your own in the suburbs. john king, cnn, milwaukee our thanks to john king. >> now, both campaigns are bringing out the celebrities in their final push for donald trump in wisconsin, green bay legend brett far and the whole wholehearted endorsement of legendary astronaut buzz aldrin. today, puerto rican superstar jennifer lopez will join kamala harris at a las vegas rally and jennifer aniston posted in this photo after she said she voted for harris and walz cnn's elizabeth wagmeister is joining us now, we've seen singers and actors and athletes hitting the trail with their respective candidates. but we've also seen this. there's at least one who is publicly and he's mad, rescinding his endorsement. tell us about it. >> that's right, sara. so yesterday puerto rican reggaeton superstar, nicky jam, rescinding his endorsement of
