11:02 am
>> i'm brianna keilar and boris sanchez. we are just five days from election day and new polling shows vice president kamala harris and former president donald trump in a virtual tie in the key battlegrounds of north carolina and georgia but the two candidates could lose those states if they can win in the west and today, both trump and harris are holding campaign events across nevada and arizona while the former president is holding a rally in albuquerque, new mexico, has not voted republicans since george w bush won the state 20 years ago before leaving for arizona, the vice president seized on a comment from trump yesterday about protecting women it actually is very offensive to women in terms of not understanding their agency. there authority there, right,
11:03 am
and their ability to make decisions about their own own lives, including their own bodies and this is just the latest on a series of reveals by the former president of how he thinks about women protect women, whether they wanted it or not or liked it or not. we do have reporters on the campaign trail today, so let's start now with cnn's eva mckend, who is in phoenix eve of the vice president, quick to slam trump over those comments. what did she say? >> she is briana because listen, this shift the conversation back to an area where the vice president is very comfortable and she's essentially arguing that this is not an aberration. this is emblematic of the contempt that the former president has for women in her view that she has a track record of fighting for women. and she often likes to say on the campaign trail that it is because of trump, that women are living one in three, women are living in states with trump abortion bans. take a
11:04 am
listen >> but she's not only focusing on this issue, boris and brianna, because there is limits to the strength of that argument, democrats will argue in some corners and so that's why here today, we're also going to hear for talk about the opportunity economy, what she's doing to bring down the cost for families. and a big focus of this pitchers latino voters in states like this one a mexican band will perform here for later on today in vegas. she's going to be joined by jennifer lopez so much of her argument to these constituents shoe-in seas are rooted in family, just a real nod to the culture there. but i'm curious to see how she talks about this issue of immigration she often on the campaign trail says that she would pass a bipartisan border security bill. one, that the former president did, all that
11:05 am
he could in her view to squash. but she also has to balance that. we're talking about this issue compassionately here in this audience today, i'm told are going to be immigrants rights activist those very same activists are doing the hard work of canvassing and door knocking on her behalf. boris, brianna alright. >> and eva, thanks. you so much for that. we have had some problem with our elements here, so i do just, so we don't confuse our viewers. i want to go ahead and play the sound bite of what trump said about women and then right after we're going to play what kamala harris said in response here it is for weeks ago, i would say, no, i want to protect the people. i want to protect the women of our country. i want to protect the women share. please don't say that why they said we think it's we think it's very inappropriate for you to say so why they said, sir, i just think it's inappropriate for you to say pay these guys a lot of money. can you believe it as well, i'm going to do it.
11:06 am
whether the women like it or not. i've got to protect them it actually is at being very offensive to women in terms of not understanding there agency, their authority, their right, and their ability to make decisions about their own lives, including their own bodies and this is just the latest in a series of reveals by the former president of how he thinks about women important to get those two in context of each other. our thanks to eva mckend. let's turn now to lucy kafanov in albuquerque, new mexico, where trump is set to take the stage. at any moment, lucy, what is the trump campaign? in saying about the comment he made last night >> no official response from the trump campaign. the former president's plane touched down literally last night to note, donald trump hasn't that so most
11:07 am
protector of women on the campaign trail, obviously taking it so much further last night by adding in the part about whether they like it or not speaking to the already converted maga crowd for whom he can do no wrong there cheering wildly, right? now it appears that maybe the pooling up the question of course, is whether those comments are what wrong please women, weapons, former president will be able to close that gap. now, after white albert not a dairy avia mean that by thousand last time around, which you know, is trying games with the done garbage remark biden's martin rallies and also trying to boost the local house and senate race sorry, it's house race in a second district where a republican is trying to take over that seat and possibly
11:08 am
flip the race. guys all right. >> lucy kafanov. thank you so much for me. quite loud. event there in albuquerque, new mexico where we are awaiting the president. harris is also seizing on house speaker mike johnson's vowed over overheld overhead all i should say, health care over hell, i think might be how democrats feel about it though a little bit johnson on video telling supporters no obamacare, if trump wins, the presidency, here's what vice president harris said about that. >> he has made dozens of attempts to get rid of the affordable care act and now we have further their validation of that agenda from his supporter, the speaker of the house. and what that would mean for the american people. is that farmers insurance companies could go back to a time when they would deny you coverage for health insurance based on pre-existing conditions preexisting conditions such as you've being a survivor of breast cancer, asthma diabetes health
11:09 am
care for all americans is on the line in this election as well it's important to give viewers the context for the comments that johnson made. >> so let's actually play them now health care reform is going to be big part of the agenda. >> when i say we're going to have a very aggressive first hundred days agenda. >> we got a lot of things on the table. >> no obamacare know the aca is so deeply ingrained. we need massive reform to make this work. and we got a lot ideas on how to do that. >> cnn, chief congressional correspondent manu raju, spoke to johnson about those comments. also the anchor of inside politics sunday will update that intro way johnson say, yeah, he claimed that they don't want to repeal the affordable care act at all, even as republicans of course, spent years trying to kill the he signature healthcare law the, obama administration but a much different tune yesterday i caught up with them as you were stumping in new york and he made clear that they they don't plan to go after the aca, at least as we said, with the republicans, keep the house
11:10 am
and trump becomes president again yes, i'm that's my question is or how much how much are you talking about what you will do if you're in power? >> and does that include repealing the aca know, look, we not repairing this not know. >> this has been a scribe to me that is not what i said. and you can pull it recording of the event in pennsylvania is not what i said. look, we are laser-focused on improving health care as we are every area, we need higher quality of care in many parts of the country greater access when he lower cost and their ideas on how to do that, that's what i was referring to and that's what president trump wants to do as well, is you haven't had a plan for many years. >> well, now, we do have plans. i mean, when i was chairman of the republican study committee, the largest caucus in in of conservatives in congress. we had a, we published a whole book look what i was the leader of all that. we have a docks caucus. they have lots of ideas that are published and prepared. so there are lots of ideas. there will put it all together in the final play, but
11:11 am
but it just shows you how concerned republicans are about these comments about obamacare be an issue this late in the campaign, trump himself posted and counted overnight and over the coming days, we in the last election, we saw those mail-in ballots managed to flip the election in. joe biden's favor as we remember in georgia, in fulton county in 2020, this was a key county joe biden was getting a huge number of mail-in ballots over the coming days that ended up taking georgia in joe biden's favor. >> really interesting, very significant development to be phil, thank you very much, young men of color have emerged as a key voting bloc that potentially could swing an election. want to go to see in this hearing? yeah. he's got more on what our exit polls are telling us right now harry, one of the demographics you're looking at? are these young black males? what are you seeing nationally? >> yeah, it's really an interesting story. well, when we look at young black males, of course used to be a big part of the democratic coalition.
11:12 am
look at the margin right here. there was some talk before the election that in fact donald trump would be able to close the gap. that is not what we're seeing here. kamala harris, with a commanding advantage among young black men, black men under the age of 30, look at that 87% to 13% for donald trump but i want to dig into the state specifically, i want to look at brought broadly at latino men in the great commonwealth of pennsylvania. and what do we see there? this is another interesting little nugget. you know, if overall among gen z, black men, we see that kamala harris versus doing better-than-expected. she is in fact doing worse than expected among latino man in the commonwealth of pennsylvania, part of the reason this state is so close so far, look at this kamala harris with just a two point advantage among latino men in the commons not the pennsylvania, much smaller lead than i think you'd expect. and finally, let's take a look at latino men in a state where of course they play a pivotal role. let's go all the way out to the southwestern arizona. what do we see here? well, this is quite the interesting little nugget here donald trump actually leading among latino men in arizona.
11:13 am
this is quite a bit of a surprise and it's part of the reason i'm wolf that donald trump very much in the game out in the southwest. but the bottom line is a very interesting election when it comes to the demographic data, wolf very interesting, indeed, a lot of surprises. >> unfolding right now here enten, thank you very much. we've been focused on the top of the ticket understandably, but we also have an update for you right now on the ballot i'll answer power over up on capitol hill because 2024 is poised for something that's never happened in american history the house of representatives could flip to democratic control while the senate may flip to republican control. cnn's chief congressional correspondent, manu raja, is getting some fresh results just it's in to cnn. what are you learning? manu
11:14 am
11:20 am
coverage, election day in america continued right now, the race to 270 electoral votes is tight, coming down to the final few battleground states battleground states. we're looking at. for example nevada with six electoral votes, right now, kamala harris is ahead, 51.1% to trump's 45.7 i've been present. she's ahead by nearly 50,000 votes right now, 66% of the estimated vote eventually has been counted so far, let's take a look at arizona right now. let's bring
11:21 am
it up. arizona right now with the 11 electoral votes at stake in arizona, kamala harris is ahead there as well, 51.7% to 46, 46% for trump ahead by more than 125,000 votes right now 71% of the estimated vote has been counted in arizona i want to take a look at another battleground state right now. let's take a look at pennsylvania as bring it up on the wall pennsylvania, the key state that both of these candidates are looking for. unfortunately, we don't have those results right now and get the pennsylvania in a few moments underway there counting all these provisional ballots as well, and that fight could have a huge impact, potentially on the presidential election. the provisional ballots i want to go to cnn's chief legal affairs correspondent, paula reid. paula explain to us what's at stake right now. >> yes. thank you. wolf
11:22 am
pennsylvania, there are legal cases over provisional ballots. so there are these conflicts we're seeing republican affiliates have started lawsuits here in pennsylvania where the supreme court ruled that voters should be allowed to cast provisional ballots in person at their they're polling places. if their mail ballots are rejected because of certain defects so the rnc actually appealed to the u.s supreme court and submitted an application for an early stay. >> hi, paula reid. thank you very, very much. want to go back to phil mattingly. he's here with me over at the magic wall right now. so phil, how could this, all this that we're seeing right now impact the race yeah. >> thank you. wolf. >> of course. we're looking at provisional ballots in those key swing states. now, provisional ballots and mail-in early ballots have been a huge part of this election and especially the last election during covid, they of course were a huge story. the majority
11:23 am
of americans did have to cast ballots early due to the pandemic. but a lot of legislation has stuck around for this time, which means that a, still, a disproportionate number of early ballots have been cast if we look at pennsylvania, we are seeing legal cases in counties across pennsylvania and bucks county, typically a democratic stronghold in erie county in the northwest, we are seeing all important mail-in ballot lawsuits taking flight those lawsuits are over all sorts of issues when those ballots were cast whether those ballots were signed, whether they were in the important secrecy envelope. democrats often advocating for counting more mail-in ballots, whereas republicans have typically said to quote, stop the count from 2020 let's look at other states were looking at michigan and wisconsin, which are currently being plagued by similar issues, lots lawsuits around the state are expected to delay election results for up to five to five days to two
11:24 am
weeks. we don't know. we will just have to see the outcome of those lawsuits and challenges looking into the typically republican state of north carolina that's become a swing state this election, we are seeing seeing similar challenges in north carolina. those mail-in ballots are so important this time around because although donald trump has previously criticized the mail-in ballot process, this time around, he has encouraged his supporters to vote early in his own words to defeat the fraud of the democrats. this has resulted in a disproportionately republican let's throw it back to wolf. >> all right, phil mattingly. excellent reporting. thank you very much. my excellent panel is with me right now and gloria borger, let's start with you. what's your, what's your analysis? >> i think the race is still very tight and it's really hard to make an assessment of how the polls are actually going but i believe that the blue wall that harris is leading, a very pivotal and important state for her to take lead on. and i think we should
11:25 am
stay with cnn. we'll keep us posted on what's going and happened next. >> your vote gloria, is being counted this morning. results are very early, but, but you're hearing that bucks county, which is a critically important county, not far from philadelphia, won't even begin to start counting until tomorrow. what are your sources telling you? >> well, yeah, i confirm what your reporting is saying that they're not going to start counting until later. later in the week. i think it's a really critical and important event because given everything that's happened even in the past election with the calls from the trump administration that the election could be fraud given the delay in counting votes. so i believe this it's really important to take a close look at bat books one and what this means for how the trump administration will decide to move forward in election. >> she would happen to the immediate hours after election day is over with nia-malika henderson is with us as well near the florida senate race is still as we've been saying, too
11:26 am
close to call, at least this hour, rick scott is having a very hard time, harder time than his people thought he would have. what are you hearing i'm hearing that there is a bit of a challenge for rick scott's scrounge up those votes that he's looking for, but seems to be just waiting for all of the votes tally in and hoping that it will be a success in his favor. yeah, he's got a big big issue right now. unfolding we were watching it very closely and that one sea in florida, as you know, near potentially could hold the balance of power in the u.s. senate between a republican majority and a democratic majority? right? >> yes. yes, >> correct. answer. alright. deal thank you very much. everybody stand by, stay with cnn, our special coverage of this historic election day in america will continue right after this short break.
11:30 am
11:32 am
>> back to election day in america continued standby for another cnn key race alert happening now the race to 270 electoral votes remains very, very tight and we want to go to a key race alert right now. take a look at this. right now, cnn can make a key race alert. we're watching what's going on by the way as of right now, trump has 127 electoral votes for watching that very closely. but let's take a look at this. key race alert in georgia right now, donald trump with 49.3%, kamala harris, look at how tight it is, 49% he's a head right now with by only 11,480
11:33 am
votes, 94% of the estimated vote is now in it's still too early to call in georgia right now 16 electoral votes are at stake, very, very significant. there's another key battleground state we're watching very closely north carolina right now take a look at how close it is there as well. kamala harris is slightly ahead, 49.8% to 48.4% for donald trump. she's ahead by some 77,000 votes 96 6% of the estimated vote is in, but so far it's still too early to call in north carolina only to democratic candidates have won the tarrio state by the way, since the 1970s. and we're also closely watching another pivotal senate race out of ohio won that potentially could swing control of the senate the chamber, democratic senator sherrod brown is facing a very tough challenge from trump-backed bernie moreno. let's take a look at what's going on right now. we're focusing in on this senate
11:34 am
race. sherrod brown, the incumbent is ahead slightly 50.7% to bernie moreno's 48%. he's ahead by more than 100 biden's 60,000 votes and 99% of the estimated vote is and we haven't been able to make a projection yet. but sherrod brown is clearly ahead of bernie marino right down. once again with 99% of the voted, we've been focusing in on the top of the ticket, which is understandable, but we also have an update for you on the ballot that's a power over on capitol hill because 2024 is poised for something that's never happened in american history. the house of representatives could flip to democratic control. while the senate may flip to republican control, that has never happened before our chief congressional correspondent, manu raja, is getting some fresh results. just in to cnn. manu, what are you learning that's right wolf. >> i'll get to the numbers coming in and just a moment. but let me remind everyone
11:35 am
what's at stake here. republicans qin's control, 221 seats in the house, and democrats control 214. that includes current vacancies. republicans expect to maintain power because of recent redistricting maps, which make the results we're getting in even more fascinating right now. while republican don bacon has 47.5 worth noting, this is the same district voted for biden in 2020 in iowa republican marianette miller-meeks is fighting to keep her job look how narrow this is. >> 50 50.7 to 49.3. let this be a lesson to anyone out there who thinks their vote doesn't matter. in 2020, miller meeks won this seat with one of the slimmest margins in modern history is just six votes that the big picture here democrats need a net pickup of just four seats to win a majority and let's, turn to the senate
11:36 am
reminder of where the pallets of bauer stands right now. democrats have 51, 49 majority, but they are on the defensive this year. let's take a look at west virginia the state, essentially out of reach for democrats. they had little chance of holding it without senator joe manchin running for reelection right now, republican jim justice, with a big lead over his opponent, democrat glenn elliott another race we're watching, of course, montana democrat john tester is running for fourth term in a state. trump has twice carried by double digits right now, his opponent, republican tim sheehy, has a slight edge as she, he's a wealthy businessman and a retired navy seal he moved to montana in 2014. democrats tried to define him as an out-of-state carpetbagger who cannot be trusted and remember the magic number for republicans to take control the senate is just one seat manu raja reporting for us, excellent reporting.
11:37 am
>> manno. thank you very much. and we have a cnn projection for you right now. >> anything i'll do the work for you, get medicare coverage. >> that's right for you. and fits your budget. edna has medicare advantage plans with monthly plan premiums starting at $0 annual enrollment ends december 7th. >> so cool now call 18 3, 3, 7, 7, 1, 3, 3, 8, 3 to speak with a licensed edna agent this is a future go daddy arrow creates a logo website even social posts in minutes ai ai who, wants to go see that get your business online and minutes with godaddy arrow money, the medicare annual enrollment period is now you may benefit from a medicare advantage plan. >> you could be missing out on the benefits that you may need. why don't you call an ila how can i help you know they speak english? glad, in an ila are

ptsd isn't something that is just gone, go away on its own. >> treatment works. >> it helps. there's no shame and treatment. >> just do it. >> you're all will be so different afterwards to wire sickness. >> it's not a coward sickness, never too late i guarantee you do to help you it will change your life turn my life around. you can find peace. never thought i could feel this good. walk through those doors, take the step, go get help. >> it's the best and bravest thing you could ever do. treatment works their final pitches to voters, this election is also playing out in court with a series of lawsuits over ballots and voting in key swing states both sides focused on battleground pennsylvania democrats argue one key swing county is not doing enough to address a ballot delivery issue while trump and his allies have been ramping up allegations in litigation of voter fraud. >> cnn chief legal affairs
11:41 am
correspondent paula reid is with us now on this. and you've been tracking the legal arguments a lot of them around this election. what are you watching? >> it's definitely a lawyer full employment act. this election, but i'm watching pennsylvania very closely with the state and federal cases. you mentioned a few of them, so let's go through them. first of all, a lawsuit filed by democrats. remember republican affiliated groups have filed or been involved with over 130 challenges related to the election. but here democrats that's are suing over delivery issues that could impact around 20,000 voters who may not receive their mail-in ballots and they're asking the court to make sure that these folks actually get to vote now they've also been some allegations by the former president and others of fraud around voter registration in pennsylvania. and i think it's really important to get to the facts here. now in lancaster county, they have confirmed that they are investigating incidents of suspected voter fraud registration fraud, now this is according to law enforcement officials and a bipartisan election board, they say that this was part of a
11:42 am
large-scale canvassing effort where they received some registrations that it's similar handwriting unverifiable addresses, their investigating, but they haven't reported any fraud. now, you're county also doing an investigation that they won't confirm if it's the same issues are seeing in lancaster, but he received trump and his allies getting out ahead of the investigation the state's governor suggested this is all part of an effort to sow seeds of doubt in the court of public opinion about the the outcome in pennsylvania. but the biggest thing that i'm looking for right now is it possible decision from the supreme court out of pennsylvania related
11:43 am
11:44 am
but i think you can definitely expect continued litigation yeah, it's a possible destination rife with drama. >> paula reid. thank you so much for the reporting. appreciate it so we're going to take a close look at the senate race in texas in just moments because this is one that could help democrats keep control of the senate if, if they can make history is actually a photo from my wedding i'm adam weiss, founder and ceo of keepsake, the mobile app that makes it easy to have your photos printed, framed, and shipped to your doorstep. it just choose a photo so that you love. you can preview it in over 100 frames and in a couple of days, you're going to receive your photo in a beautiful, handmade france. so if you've got a special photo on your phone, installed a free keepsake app love a chance to frame it for you. >> confident about which used car to buy? no. why not ask the most confident person, you know, my old high school coach
