to a federal courthouse to face murder charges. we are going to be watching that as it happens. we don't see the helicopter quite yet. there it is. oh, there's the helicopter. so the helicopter has just arrived, and we saw from brin's report just a few minutes ago that he is being greeted by a lot of federal law enforcement, new york law enforcement. and so we expect him to exit that helicopter momentarily and head into the courthouse. don't go anymore. don't go anywhere, because we, of course, will continue this coverage. thank you for joining inside politics today. cnn news central will pick it up right now. >> this is cnn breaking news. >> we start with breaking news this afternoon. >> thanks so much for joining us. i'm boris sanchez
10:01 am
alongside brianna keilar in our nation's capital. suspected killer luigi mangione is now in new york. >> here is his arrival. just a short time ago, as he now heads directly to manhattan, where he is expected in federal court soon to face new charges alleging that he shot unitedhealthcare ceo brian thompson in the back, killing the father of two on a city sidewalk on december 4th. >> mangione has already been indicted in new york on first and second degree murder charges, and now a newly unsealed complaint shows four federal charges, including murder, this morning. >> mangione waived extradition in an nypd plane, flew him from pennsylvania, where he had been arrested to new york. >> the 26 year old former engineer is set to appear before a federal judge in the next hour. and we have cnn's kara scannell outside the court on this story. we have cnn's brynn gingras tracking mangione movements there in new york. brian, tell us where he is now yeah, guys, we're keeping our
10:02 am
eyes to the sky at this very moment here at the wall street heliport, which is in lower manhattan. >> you can see from grella's video that there is just a number of law enforcement at the edge of this pier, getting ready for the arrival. >> now there is an nypd helicopter that is about to land. just now. i'm trying to see if that's possibly him and see if there's any movement from. again, all of that law enforcement that is here on the ground, i can tell you this is quite a scene. >> i have never seen this many officials here for the arrival of a defendant in a case. there are members from the nypd. there are members that are in full tactical gear with long guns. there are members from the fbi, the joint terrorism task force. there are members of the harbor unit, two boats that are in the water. there are nypd helicopters. there are motorcycles from the nypd. so quite a turnout from all members of law enforcement at different levels at this point. we know that once mangione does
10:03 am
land here by helicopter, which we again are expecting any moment, and i am starting to see a number of people move around that might have been his chopper. we do expect him to make that walk from the end of the pier up. >> i think that actually may be here i think you guys are seeing that roger is shooting this for us. once he gets out of that helicopter, we expect him to make the walk down the side of this building into a sprinter van that is waiting for him. that is led by two black suvs. make his way to the federal building, where he is going to be facing those federal charges. >> i'm just trying to get a look for myself, guys. if that's him, it appears to be. since, again, all this law enforcement is all starting to move and circle around that nypd helicopter that just landed here at the heliport. >> yeah. brian, let's watch alongside you as we see this large law enforcement presence and the rotors on that helicopter begin to slow down.
10:04 am
you can kind of see from a window what appears to be an orange jumpsuit, though it's still unclear at this point. we're going to be watching this closely to see what we believe is luigi mangione. the 26 year old suspect and this high profile murder investigation emerged from this helicopter. obviously, this is a key moment in this case, given that mangione was caught more than a week ago in pennsylvania at a mcdonald's in altoona, some several hundred miles away from manhattan, where the alleged act took place. mangione found, with a number of key pieces of evidence on him, including a ghost gun believed to be used in the murder of brian thompson. as well as this three page handwritten statement describing his intent and his desire to go after someone at the top of the health insurance industry, which he has argued was a scam and carried out injustice against the american people. >> that's right. and he had spent days waiving extradition
10:05 am
in pennsylvania or, pardon me, fighting it, then decided to waive it after getting new counsel. and here we see nypd getting out of this chopper. as you mentioned, you could see. and there he is. luigi mangione, the suspected murderer of brian thompson, formerly the unitedhealthcare ceo, who was gunned down brazenly in the middle of manhattan. a huge police presence there on the pier as he is arriving in new york city to face charges here, face charges there in new york, also facing a federal indictment as well. >> yeah, four federal counts against mangione, a count of federal murder through use of a firearm, a firearms offense as well for using a silencer and muffler in the alleged murder, as well as two stalking charges
10:06 am
as well his newly retained attorney, karen agnifilo, suggested that federal charges in this case would be overkill. i just want to note, you see new york city mayor eric adams not far behind mangione there. again, a very large law enforcement presence. this was an incident that sparked worldwide attention as mangione was able to get away soon after the murder. clearly in what was a calculated move as well as investigators finding key details in the search for him, that book bag in central park, full of monopoly money. one interesting detail i believe brynn gingras is still there on the scene for us. brian, some of what you were saying candidly was hard to hear over the rotors of the helicopter. talk to us about what you're seeing now and just the scale of the law enforcement presence there. >> yeah, like i said, it's i've never seen anything like this for us, to be quite honest with you. there are just law enforcement from so many levels
10:07 am
here. and it's very clear, as you just saw, that walk from the helicopter all the way down that pier to that sprinter van, which he just got into while he's shackled. they clearly want the photo opportunity to show what they believe. they got their guy. i mean, that's what it really feels like because that was like, like a long perp walk, as we would call it in the news industry. and now we're told in that sprinter van, he will travel to a federal building where he will be federally processed. i also want to sort of just paint a scene for you guys out here, because we are in sort of the height of a tourist area of new york city and the amount of tourists that are here taking videos of this moment, in addition to news media and others, is incredible. i mean, everyone is just out here to watch what we just witnessed there on television and everyone asking, you know, who is this guy? and then extremely interested once we tell them who law enforcement is bringing into custody here, now that he's in that van. people are starting to leave, but you can probably see rod, right? you can see the two sprinters. you
10:08 am
can see the sprinter van that's starting to now lead. we know that there's a number of nypd motorcycles as well parked here. i'm not sure if they will be leading their way as an escort to that federal building, which is really not too far from where we are. maybe a ten minute drive if you count new york city traffic. but certainly now he is on his way to that federal building and also, brian, you could see there the security. >> nypd, members of the nypd who had long guns. there's a lot of concern about the attention that this is getting. and that was really something to see. >> yeah, there is a lot of concern, certainly. and it's also interesting. i just want to point out there's also tours. this is a private helicopter area. there are tourists that landed while that was happening. so now they're allowed to get off their helicopters and actually leave the area. i mean, that's where everything just went to a standstill. obviously, when he landed in his helicopter. but yeah, it was a quite law enforcement presence. but as you just mentioned, boris, the mayor was here, the police
10:09 am
commissioner, sort of everyone wanted that photo op of luigi mangione back here in new york and ready to face the charges of a person that led them on a several day manhunt and that, you know, eventually was caught in altoona, pennsylvania. but now here back in new york brian, please keep us posted on what you hear about his movements as luigi mangione now heads to manhattan. >> we want to go to kara scannell, who is now where mangione is going to be in just moments. kara, tell us about these new federal charges. >> yeah, boris. that's right. i mean, as brian was saying, mangione is now being transported to a federal building where he will be taken into federal custody and arrested on these four criminal charges that were unsealed today. they include two charges of stalking, and that is mangione alleged travel to new york city to shoot and murder the unitedhealthcare ceo and another charge of stalking that relates to his use of the internet, his use of cell phones and his interstate
10:10 am
wires, his traveling on the highway to get here. he's also facing a federal murder charge and a firearms charge. now, once he gets to this federal building, he will be processed that is not expected to take too long because of how orchestrated and planned this is. then he will be transported by federal officials to man to the courthouse just behind me, where he will have his first presentment. his attorney is arriving right now. that's karen friedman agnifilo. she has given a statement saying that he will fight these charges and calling it a pile on a karen, do you have any comment on these charges today? not at this time. >> thank you so much. >> thanks, guys. >> crutches. let's go. >> okay, so karen is walking into court along with her husband, who is also defending mangione alongside her. he is also representing sean diddy combs in the sex trafficking case. and so he is on both of these cases now. but so once
10:11 am
mangione is transported here, he will go into the courthouse. he will have his first appearance before a magistrate judge. we expect that to happen around 2 p.m. eastern time, and then he will remain in federal custody. he is not expected to get bail. so those images that we just saw of him leaving the helicopter may be the last ones that we see of him for quite a while. guys. >> and kara, we heard alvin bragg saying that these cases will proceed in parallel. so just talk a little bit about that. i mean, as we see this flurry of actual activity happening, the legal activity is going to be incredible it is. >> i mean, we started this day thinking that mangione was going to appear a few blocks from where i am in state court to face that 11 count indictment, including a murder in the first degree. when these federal charges became unsealed. that is when the action shifted over to federal court. and this is now playing
10:12 am
out. first, it appears, although there is still a lot that is being worked out behind the scenes, but it appears as though this federal case may take precedence. but the district attorney for manhattan, alvin bragg, has issued a statement in which he has said that the state case will proceed in parallel with any federal case. the mechanics of how that is going to work again, though, still remains unclear. it is unclear if mangione will go into state court at all today to be arraigned on those state charges. for now, the precedents are these federal charges, those four counts, two counts of stalking and one count of murder and a firearms offense. he is, you know, once he gets through the system, he will be appearing here driven over by officials. we will not see him walk in this building. he will enter through the garage and then head straight to the courtroom, where we expect there to be a heavy marshals presence while he is arraigned before the magistrate judge. in just less than an hour from now, guys. >> kara scannell is live for us from new york. thank you so
10:13 am
much for that update. let's discuss with cnn chief law enforcement and intelligence analyst john miller and cnn senior legal analyst elie honig ali. let's go deeper into exactly what we're going to watch unfold today. what are you expecting will come from this hearing? >> well, boris, first of all, we are not going to be able to watch anything because there are no cameras allowed in federal court. but we will, of course, have our reporters in there reporting back to us. here's what will happen. so it's important to understand luigi mangione has not been indicted yet. that's the next step. this is sort of pre indictment. this is what's called a complaint. it's a way that prosecutors can draft up a document, bring it to a judge who signs off. and that enables you to arrest the defendant as we've seen happen here. so today luigi mangione will go into what we call magistrates court, where a federal judge called a magistrate appointed through a different process. but a magistrate will essentially advise luigi mangione of the charges against him, will likely ask for a plea. it will be obviously a not guilty plea. at this point. the judge will make sure that mangione understands the
10:14 am
charges against him, that mangione has an attorney. we just saw his attorney, karen friedman agnifilo, walk into the courthouse, and then we'll address the issue of bail. there is a 0.00% chance that luigi mangione gets bail. in this case. he will be locked up pending prison. and then after today, of course, there has to still be a separate arraignment across the street in the state court. but the next step in federal court will be for prosecutors to go and get an indictment from a grand jury that will likely play out over the next couple of weeks. so for today, it's an arraignment. he'll be advised of his basic rights. they'll make sure he has a lawyer, and they'll officially rule that he's not going to get bail. >> and, john, i want to talk about what we just saw here, which is really quite stunning. and there's a moment coming up here where you're going to see the photographer get in front of luigi mangione and essentially block the view of cameras and is quickly swatted away by a police officer with the long gun so that i don't
10:15 am
know, you can explain why is it so that we can see him? is that just the protocol? what do you make of this spectacle that we have just witnessed? >> well, i think there's a couple of things going on here, and they're all relatively unique and really interesting. so what you're seeing here is mangione being escorted by a combination of new york city police detectives and federal officials coming off the nypd helicopter with in the background, the emergency service unit. those are the officers with the long guns, the cops with the motorcycles outside. they're from the highway patrol division. why is this happening this way? we often see when someone is accused of a particularly heinous crime, say, against a child, that they have that person in a bulletproof vest and that they whisk them away because they are worried that somebody may attack them. some member of the public, some aggrieved family member. in this case, it's upside down. the security around mangione
10:16 am
today is because of what they've been seeing in terms of the public support for him and their security worries about somebody not trying to attack him, but to try and free him from law enforcement, which is why he's not being brought in a couple of fbi cars or police cars, but basically in a secure motorcade with motorcycle outriders to run ahead and block the traffic. he'll be brought into a frozen zone by nypd headquarters and the federal courthouse, where other traffic is not allowed, and then delivered to this location. all of that because they feel that their defendant has this unusual popular support among like minded individuals. so that's what you're seeing unfold there at the same heliport where the president of the united states typically arrives and steps into a motorcade, this for a very different kind of character. >> yeah, a stunning display on

to be arraigned on four charges murder through use of a firearm, two counts of stalking and firearms offense. >> let's bring our panel back in. cnn chief law enforcement and intelligence analyst john miller and cnn senior legal analyst elie honig ali. i do wonder about how this state case will run in parallel, as d.a. alvin bragg put it, with a federal case. how is that going to work? >> well, that's exactly the right way to describe it. in parallel, they will be proceeding through the pretrial processes, more or less at the same time frame. but of course, i think the big question is which one gets tried first. and the answer is we do not know. that will depend to some extent on the court calendars and how they shake out. that will depend to some extent on negotiations sometimes between the da who heads the state level office, and the u.s. attorney who heads the federal office. those are the charges that we're seeing addressed now. often, the da will get on the phone with the u.s. attorney, and they'll work out an agreement. who's going to go to trial first? who's going to go second? will we work together? will we work
10:23 am
separately? but there is no hard and fast rule here. we've seen plenty of examples over the years where federal cases have gone first. we've seen other high profile examples where state charges have gone first. so that's going to be the result of both the natural in court calendars, but also careful consideration between the relevant prosecuting offices. >> so we know, according to his lawyer. and i do want to note, that this is something that karen friedman agnifilo said when it was just initially being reported that there would be federal charges before we saw what the indictment was, that this was a risk of double jeopardy. and i wonder what your assessment is of that. >> i'm sure that karen will make a double jeopardy motion. any good lawyer would do that. she has very little chance to win here because this exact circumstance went up to the supreme court in 2019, and the supreme court ruled that it is okay. it does not violate double jeopardy principles to
10:24 am
have the same person charged by the feds and the state. separately. the rationale there is these are separate governmental entities, and in this case, the nature of the charges are different in technical respects. yes. they both both sets of charges boil down to the fact that luigi mangione shot brian thompson on that street in manhattan. but the charges are phrased and structured in different ways, so i don't think there's much chance of a double jeopardy motion succeeding here. but certainly within the defendant's right to make that motion. >> and, john, one of the reasons that was speculated as to why mangione attorneys initially had him fight extradition when he was in pennsylvania had to do with where he was staying. and this state prison in pennsylvania being quite different than rikers island. talk to us a little bit about where mangione is headed. likely headed after his arraignment. >> well, after his arraignment in front of a federal magistrate, it is likely he
10:25 am
will be taken to the metropolitan detention center. the mdc, the very same prison where p diddy is awaiting trial on his charges and other defendants. the regular place he would have gone, which is literally attached by tunnels to the courthouse, is the metropolitan correctional center in manhattan, but that is still in the throes of of a fairly significant renovation. so he's going to end up in the federal lockup in brooklyn, which has its own troubled reputation as a converted facility that's had all kinds of problems with heat and other issues. but that is the place that federal defendants are housed right now. um, as ellie was saying, though, what we're seeing unfold here is really interesting. you know, this was a manhattan district attorneys state homicide case, and. nypd arrest. um, in pennsylvania.
10:26 am
and then you have the federal government come in literally overnight unsealing a federal complaint. you have a new york state judge, john, we are losing a little. >> it's okay. we're losing a little bit of your audio. it's cutting in and out. so we're going to address that as actually we're going to get a quick break in. because right now we understand that luigi mangione is in between having just landed in manhattan and there where there's heightened security at the federal courthouse, including a very cute canine. but we're going to get in a quick break. keep an eye on this, because he is expected to arrive at the federal courthouse any moment. we're going to wait and see what we can see as he arrives. we'll be right back this holiday season, find the perfect gift at cnn, underscored from

we're also keeping our eye on another very important story, which is the last criminal case that president elect trump had been facing before he took office, before he takes office, just got dealt a major setback. a state appeals court in georgia has disqualified fulton county district attorney fani willis from prosecuting the election interference case against trump and his co-defendants in a 2 to 1 decision, the panel says a significant appearance of impropriety was enough to potentially taint the case in the public's eye. >> but it's important to point out the court did not dismiss the the indictment entirely and outright, leaving a major question mark over what comes next. cnn's nick valencia is live for us in atlanta. he's been following this case very closely. nick, what are you hearing about the next steps well, boris and brianna. >> fani willis will appeal this decision to the state supreme court. she's planning to continue to fight to try to stay on this case, but that has not stopped steve sadow and donald trump. steve, of course, the attorney here for donald trump from touting this decision from the court of appeals as a win. and this is what they're saying. and part of their statement a short time
10:33 am
ago, as the court rightfully noted, only the remedy of disqualification will suffice to restore public confidence. this decision puts an end to a politically motivated persecution of the next president of the united states. so fani willis is going to appeal this. the case is not dead in her office, but it is very much so. on life support i mentioned she is going to appeal, but if those appeals are denied by georgia law, this case would then go into the hands of the prosecuting attorneys council here in the state of georgia. that's a nine member committee, a bipartisan committee made up of district attorneys here in the state, as well as solicitor general. their executive director is pete skandalakis, and it would be up to skandalakis to find a replacement for willis. but if you remember previously, fani willis was disqualified from investigating lieutenant governor bert jones, who was at one point a target of this indictment. ultimately, though, skandalakis couldn't find anyone to replace fani willis. he had to appoint himself and ultimately decided not to pursue charges. look, guys, there's really no way for the district attorney's office here in fulton county to spin this. it is a mess, especially
10:34 am
when you consider this case was on a fast track where appeared to be on a fast track to go to trial before this summer. that was before the disqualification hearings for fani willis. that disqualification motion filed by an attorney for one of trump's co-defendants, ashley merchant, and a lot of people criticized merchant for filing this alleged romantic relationship that existed between willis and the special prosecutor in this case, the man she hired to for this job, nathan wade. fani willis, appeared to take this motion very personally. but as it stands and where we stand right now, it was and appears to be ultimately successful and may very well keep the president elect donald trump from facing criminal charges here in the state of georgia. brianna. >> all right. nick valencia, thank you so much. let's talk about this now with legal analyst and trial attorney mercedes colwin. i wonder, mercedes, if you think this was the right call to disqualify fani willis and sort of what the consensus is out there on that great to be on with you,
10:35 am
brianna. >> so here's something that's very interesting about the decision. and i do want to point to the decision. i'm going to read something from it in a moment. this decision was based on the semblance of impropriety. not that there was a conclusion either by the lower court or this court that disqualified fani willis, that there was conclusive evidence of impropriety, but rather the semblance of impropriety. and i want to just read you quickly. it said simply, this is now the appellate court said the remedy crafted by the trial court to prevent an ongoing appearance of impropriety, did nothing to address the appearance of impropriety and existed at times when d.r. willis when exercising her broad pretrial discretion about who to prosecute and what charges to bring. but the dissenting judge in this case picked up on that difference, and the dissenting judge was very critical of the other two judges who were in the majority, by saying, when did we ever disqualify on the basis of semblance of impropriety, this where there has been no finding that this was improper and therefore
10:36 am
there was some criticism, frankly. and brianna, in my in my former life, when i was a government lawyer, i did defend prosecutors that were challenged on their prosecutorial discretion. and they do have very broad prosecutorial discretion. so whenever it comes into question, whenever it's challenged, and certainly when i was defending the prosecutors back in my former life, it's something that needs to be dealt with very delicately, which is why a lot of prosecutors have to be very careful on what they do in their personal lives, because unfortunately, it can seep into their professional life. so is it the right call? it's most unfortunate because fani willis is, by all accounts, a tremendous prosecutor has done such great things for the state of georgia. it's so unfortunate that this challenge has hit her in this way. and we'll see what happens as she develops the appeal and goes on. >> from this point, do you think her appeal has the chance? >> it bars, you know, there's it really. it looks from at

>> some republican lawmakers are now openly calling for a government shutdown just days before christmas, no less, after president elect trump and elon musk effectively tanked a bill that would have funded the government through march, and compounding an already difficult task. trump also wants the debt ceiling raised before he is sworn in. so now lawmakers are scrambling to come up with a plan. but time is running out because the money is running out. it dries up tomorrow night and the drama does not end there. >> house speaker mike johnson's leadership position is now on the line, even though he had a deal that was supported in a bipartisan fashion by both republicans and democrats. his plan included billions in disaster relief and economic aid for farmers, among a number of other popular items. let's discuss the fallout with our political experts. lance trover is a republican strategist who is the spokesperson for doug burgum's presidential campaign. also with us is the battleground director for the harris-walz campaign, dan kanninen. thank you both for being with us. lance, first to
10:43 am
you, i mean, we're like 36 hours from a government shutdown. did no republicans see this coming they're going to fund the government. >> i mean, that's that's clear. it's going to get done. let's take a step back and remember, part of the reason this is happening is because we have zero leadership out of the current occupant of 1600 pennsylvania avenue. and if you read today's wall street journal, it's clear we haven't had a president for many, many months on end. and so donald trump, for all intents and purposes, is the president of the united states right now. and certainly, if there is legislation that is going to affect his first 100 days in office, i think he's going to be given a lot of latitude and deference on that. and if you look at what happened on november 5th, it's clear that voters are tired of these bills that are stacked up. i mean, for good. it had a pay increase for members of congress, for crying out loud. so voters are sick and tired of it. they're going to get it done. i'm confident they will get the government funded and
10:44 am
they will meet this disaster and all this stuff. >> i think it had a cola that had been suspended. make of that what you will. i just want to be clear about the specifics on that um, i just i just want to be clear. if people want to dig into that, um. what do you think, dan, about the current situation and what do you think about the power that elon musk is wielding in all of this? >> yeah. the idea donald trump is president. is it trump or is it elon musk? and in terms of the voters actually want in this election, right. donald trump won concede that obviously. but less than 50% of the popular vote, less than 50% of, excuse me, a 1.5% popular vote margin for donald trump. and in many of those swing states, wisconsin, arizona, nevada, a governor in north carolina, democrats won for senate when trump carried the state. folks want bipartisanship. as you mentioned, boris, this is a bipartisan deal negotiated with house democrats, house republicans, senate democrats, senate republicans, folks did not vote to have billionaires, especially petulant billionaires who have $20 billion in government support for spacex alone, like elon
10:45 am
musk dictating the terms of this debate, who are unelected at the expense of airline workers, and then the travel delays at the expense of service members who won't get paid at the expense of disaster relief for hurricane helene in north carolina, which donald trump campaigned on aggressively in the fall and now turns his back on those folks. that's not what the american people want. >> republicans have argued that they would like to see what they describe as a clean bill with some disaster relief go through. i wonder what you make of the argument that there's stuff in this bill that the average american wouldn't find useful, like a raise for lawmakers, like something like 40% of fema's budget being allocated toward covid disaster relief. now, several years removed from the pandemic, is overspending a concern? >> well, look, i think in any bill that is a bipartisan product, you're going to have stuff you like and stuff you don't like. this is not the bill that became jeffries would drop or the bill that chuck schumer dropped, or mitch mcconnell or or mike johnson, obviously. but it's compromise. the american people want a government that works for them, that pays the bills, that that funds their
10:46 am
commitments, that continues to move forward. they don't want to play politics, and they don't want petulant folks on twitter dictating the terms of the debate. >> all right. so, lance, in the meantime, you do have marjorie taylor green, who was supportive of johnson just a couple of days ago, now open to musk being speaker. and i just wonder what your you chuckle there. but what do you make of that. because that's sort of the buzzy thing folks are talking about. >> well, look, i think it's fun for us to sit here and pontificate and talk about it right now. they're going to get this worked out and we will start anew in january. i think right now we've seen that president trump is sticking by speaker johnson. i don't see any changes on that front. they're going to get a clean bill passed. we will get the government funded. i don't think the stuff about musk is serious. >> you this then where was the where was the misunderstanding? because they've been talking this whole time since since trump was elected. and clearly trump wanted a debt ceiling
10:47 am
increase. and johnson, i don't know, made a calculation that that would be very difficult, which it is. so then where was the misunderstanding that brought us to this moment? >> yeah, i can't speculate to that. i don't know what you know. i'm not obviously privy to those conversations and what happened internally. but the bottom line is this bill was loaded to the brim with a bunch of giveaways that, frankly, voters are sick and tired of dealing with, whether it is pay increases, whether it is covid money and all of the like. and so that is why we should just have a clean bill with some disaster funding and the like and get it set up, because donald trump has a huge agenda coming into the first part of next year, the first 100 days. and so we should deal with all this stuff now and not impede what the american people voted for. on november 5th. >> it's fascinating that republicans are concerned about spending, in part because trump, when he was president, suspended the debt ceiling three separate times, including
10:48 am
once for a two year period. now, he's told nbc news that he'd like to abolish it altogether. does that surprise you? >> no. look at his record from his time in president from 2016 to 2020. he did not actually accomplish the big things he set out to accomplish. didn't build the wall, didn't reform health care and repeal obamacare. but he did drive through massive tax cuts and explode the debt. and then to your point three times lifted the debt ceiling. donald trump is not going to get control of the debt, does not want to, has never cared about that. donald trump wants power and his own agenda to be in place for the sake of it. and i think part of this is him, obviously, because he's done this before. part of this is elon musk is working in some partnership with him, i think, for elon musk's own benefit, and trump cannot control him. and that's a big problem for the american people. >> he changed the face, i will say, of the supreme court and i understand what you're saying when it comes to legislation. but he made some big changes. he may have realigned voting blocks. >> well, i didn't like those changes, but i would probably give mitch mcconnell more credit than donald trump in terms of being able to get it done. >> i hear you, i hear you on

uptick of people pointing lasers at planes, seemingly trying to point lasers at these drones, trying to figure out what they are. obviously, a very dangerous situation for airplanes. and the faa is now putting out a warning. >> super dangerous. you know, you can buy these pointers online. i have one in my desk drawer, 29 amazon. that's the image there from a passenger on an american airlines flight that was going from raleigh-durham to laguardia. he said he saw this blue laser illuminate the plane over new jersey. this was last friday. now, the faa says there's been a huge uptick in these laser strikes. typically, the faa gets about 30 pilot reports nationwide every night. the faa every night just this past tuesday, the faa got 123 nationwide, 24 of them over new jersey. so essentially average day in the u.s. localized entirely over one state. and the big risk here is that this temporarily blind pilots, and this is typically during some of the most critical phases of a flight, when you're down low, about to land or taking off and still climbing. so
