here. they know reality show, they live it, reality television every day. and you know they don't hold back. they are going to share secrets. we are dancing with the stars ourselves. some professional dancers critiquing bristol palin's performance and brandy's performance. president barack obama wrapped up his participate in the nato summit. the president said he was pleased with the progress made on several issues including afghanistan. suzanne malveaux is covering the president's trip. >> reporter: after two days of summits president obama outlined a new timetable for the afghan war when u.s. and nato troops will start to come home. the big question is whether or not this plan is realistic. it is the closest thing to an exit strategy president obama could get. >> we agreed early 2011 will

mark a transition to afghan responsibility and adopted a goal of after fan forces taking the lead in 2014. >> reporter: u.s. troops would be focused on training after fan forces. hamid karzai signed the pact expressing optimism. >> we are confident the transition will succeed to the afghan autonomy, leadership and honorship. i found today strong commitment by the international committee. >> i don't foresee isaf troops in a combat role beyond 2014. >> reporter: the agreement is at best a goal. privately there is skepticism that the afghan government will be ready to provides security and services to its people the

nato agreement says for the afghan government corruption remains a central challenge to be addressed. russia's president dmitri m medvedev said they may not be ready. president obama seemed to leave the door open about whether u.s. troops would be fighting if afghanistan after 2014. when asked if he would keep combat troops past the deadline he said -- >> i will always do what is necessary to keep d american people safe. >> reporter: president obama is eager to get u.s. forces out of this unpopular war. nato allies areless patient. >> by the end of next year we have set the goal to have 300,000 afghan soldier and police. >> reporter: several countries

have said their troops will not remain in combat indefinitely. david cameron repeated here that no matter how violent afghanistan is at the end of 20132 2014, the british will end combat operations the next year. the obama administration is under pressure to defeat the taliban and stabilize afghanistan. the president wants to reiterate that -- >> apparently having some trouble with suzanne malveaux's story. checking some of your top stories. pope benedict says in his new book he approves of the use of condoms in certain cases, to prevent the spread of hiv and aids. from a pontiff who publicly said condoms worsened the spread of aids. rescuers are scrambling

every person on this show is a star. they have fan bases that will vote a million times if they can. the tea party is an organization that came together specifically to vote for people, to have a message and relay a message. thus, if they are good at getting out a vote for a candidate they are good at getting out a vote for a reality star. they could argue they are more successful with bristol. >> there is a strong popular movement behind sarah palin at the moment and she's receiving a lot of support from the tea party. it's entirely possible some of those people are behind bristol for political reasons. warren? >> they are behind her for political reasons. it is almost comical. it is "dancing with the stars." bristol palin is not an actor or star. she is the daughter of sarah palin. if you don't believe this is political, why is sarah palin there every show.

years they played football inside the ivy covered walls at chicago's wrigley field. wrigley, of course, is home for the chicago cubs. i think it is a beautiful stadium. it needs repair, but it looks great. it has not hosted a game since 1971. northwestern and illinois played there. one end zone was flush against a wall that prompted officials to run all offensive plays toward the other end zone. by the way illinois won 48-27. man, we covered this story extensively. remember the drama, the 233 chilean miners? they are living it up right now hollywood style. the invincible group got celebrity treatment touring l.a. this weekend. the miners and their rescuers are in town to attend the cnn heroes tribute as special

on the bus. we were outside grauman's chinese theater. we were five minutes away from cher. all the paparazzi was there for cher but looked up on the bus and said those look like the chill kbliners. they didn't know what to do, point toward cher, point toward the miners. >> i know you are a serious news guy but in hollywood it is the paps. not the paparazzi. >> reporter: oh. i have to get the lingo right. the pats. >> paps. >> we left hollywood, this is important, and went to universal studios. we went on this ride. this is more serious. amazing 3-d realistic thing where dinosaurs and king kong come to your tram. it was dark and the car started shaking back and forth. i wanted to see what the

reaction was. a couple of them said here we go again. they were joking. i asked did you have flashbacks? they said, no. we had a great time. >> if more it was the first time outside of chile. it would have been interesting to witness their reaction seeing america. >> for most of the miners, they all brought family members with them. their second time on an airplane. they had to fly from near where the mine was to santiago. for many this was their second plane ride, flew nine hours to atlanta, connected in atlanta and flew to los angeles. they are having a time of their life. they are absolutely great people. >> give them our his and hellos. gary, are you a dancer? are you a good dancer? >> reporter: no.

so every weekend we like to bring you some interesting news items that you might have missed during the weak. this one is about the so-called barefoot bandit, facing charges for an alleged multistate crime spree. colton harris moore is alleged to have stolen and crashed as many as five small planes, sometimes while not wearing shoes, while on the run for two years. he was arrested in the bahamas in july after allegedly crashing a plane and then trying to flee in a boat before police shot out the engine. he is being tried in seattle on five counts carrying a possible 43 years in prison. an arizona homeless man is learning the value of honesty. his name is dave tally. he's called a shelter a home now for the past three years.
