talking about. we'll explain where the money is going. well thank you for your company. this just in to cnn. london police made several arrests in the tabloid phone hacking scandal. among those arrest second-degree a police officer. the investigation is centering on allegations of bribes from police for inside information. police are searching rupert murdock's company. police are searching for as many as three men who may have fired shots in a shopping mall around dinner time. it started in a candy store.

we know two people suffered gunshot wounds. an 18-year-old student accused of planning to detonate a bomb in his school is out on bail this morning. he's a 16-year-old student at the roy utah high school. the 16-year-old is being held in a juvenile detention center while they consider charges. he's charged with one felony charge of use of weapon of mass destruction. a failed operation that left hundreds of untracked weapons in the hands of deadly criminals in mexico. top officials approved of the plan called fast and furious. eric holder will testify about the reforms in the wake of fast and furious. he'll do so at a congressional hearing next week. a hero for helping a woman he found in the ditch at the

side of the road. he noticed her when they were driving by. they waited with the woman. she thought she was going to die. >> she was in a ditch so there may have been people who drove by and didn't see her. i was fortunate to see her. cold. and hopefully she's okay. if she is, then this is probably about the best day of my year. >> he said he felt the first responders were the true heroes. the woman's condition is not known right now. lawsuits are being filed against the cruise company that owned the "costa concordia." at least 16 people died when the ship hit about two weeks ago now. they a the company is offering $14,000 to each of the survivors. a lawsuit is seeking more than $450 million. shipments of canadian orange juice are not being allowed in the country after they found the

chicago. not talking feet, but the heaviest we have seen in awhile. it's going to drift through chicago, and detroit. there's a transformation going from snow to sleet. the thing that's making all this happen is possibly the front coming through. it's going to be the thing that gives you delays. the rain and snow showers, delays just under an hour. the frontal boundary is not the only thing. the moisture off the lakes. it comes together to give you the snow showers. in los angeles the wind is the issue. the red flag warnings we have out there. we have very dry conditions. the winds could cause issues. the great lakes, that's the culprit there, the low pressure making its way to the northeast. right behind it, take a look, another system bringing snowfall. chicago, a break for you today into the midday hours. by tomorrow morning, another

welcome back. it's 6:13 here in the east. it is time for this mornings passport with nadia bilchik. let's talk about something i never thought i would have to say on television, exploding churros. how does that happen? it sounds frightening? >> it is. here they are, they look sweet and delicious. what happened was anything but sweet or delicious. seven years ago, a newspaper published a recipe and gave the heat of the oil at far too high. people followed the recipe to the tee. 13 people got enormous. they got facial abrasions. the oil literally exploded on their face and hands. here is one of the victims. this company, this week only

seven years later, what happened was they have to pay $180,000. the person who got the least amount of burns was paid $279. and the person who got the most burns and abrasions got up to $50,000. what was interesting was they followed the recipe exactly. >> the first question i have is, was the recipe -- where did the recipe come from? was it misprinted? >> it was one of those recipes where somebody put in the heat but didn't test the recipe. you assume when you open a newspaper or magazine, the recipe has been tested. >> sure. sure. >> whether it was a misprint or somebody making up a recipe saying turn the oil to super high is not known. it's interesting to think how much liability does a person have when you follow a recipe.

over a half of the latino vote is cuban americans. those are leaning more toward romney. he seems to have the endorsement of the high, key political cuban voters and seems to be leading the way for him. among cuban voters, illegal immigration is not the high priority for them. illegal immigration that the republicans talk about isn't of high priority for that group of americans. >> one of the high priorities is going to be the housing. housing in florida has suffered. how will that play out? >> it plays out in the sense newt gingrich did not start the effort of talking about housing. he should have been more involved. mitt's been off his game in florida from the moment he got the south carolina boost. romney has been posting ads every five seconds down there. gingrich is really silent until

really today. it's when his big buy goes up. there are tough ads from both campaigns. they are throwing in everything but the kitchen sink right now. >> we were talking about that. there's such negativity in this campaign. it's not unusual. we see it on tv all the time. what do you think is driving it. does it really make a difference to voters? >> well, it does have an effect. campaigns don't affect me at all. it has a collective effect when you hear it over and over again. in this case, it is having an effect. when you are overwhelmed in one case such as gingrich where there's so many romney ads. the other is a knock-out punch when you get on air. there's one airing this morning about romney and medicare reimbursement and fraud that took place. we don't know if it's true or not. whether that campaign ad might

affect some senior voters, we don't know. it will either put gingrich back in the race. >> this is disturbing for some people, lee. >> we don't know if it's true or not. we live in america, don't we have to classify what we say and make sure it's true before we put it on the air? >> this is politics. you say it and hopefully people will verify after the election. that's how it's going. >> to make something up and put it out there or do you actually think they want to try to get something valid beneath that statement to boost them? >> unfortunately, it's part of the tradition. the accumulation of statements, negative statements toward particular candidates or their history. again, once you put it out there, you can't pull it back. even after you correct it. the end goal in these political campaigns is victory. many times, it's victory at all
