sarah palin going rogue hitting the ta"today" show the same day katie couric hosts "good morning america." >> biggest winner, first lady michelle obama opening up the oval office for a white house workout on the biggest loser show. we're asking, will the west wing help fatten up the show's ratings? we begin this morning at a small christian college in oakland, california. new cell phone video captures the chaos as a gunman systematically murders seven students. the cell phone video captures the gun shots and the terror as the bloodshed unfolds. we'll talk to the man who videotaped this. first, chilling new details are coming out this morning. oakland police chief howard jordan tells cnn the gunman

killed his seven victims execution style. he says the shooter first took receptionist hostage and lined students up against the wall and then began firing randomly at his victims. chief jordan says the gunman was upset with an administrator and was specifically hunting for her. the suspect is 43-year-old one goh, a former student. he was arrested an hour later at a grocery store several miles away. the killing spree appears to have been more calculated and ruthless than previously believed. thelma gutierrez has more on what oakland's police chief told cnn earlier this morning and that alleged gunman. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, carol. when we first heard about this, the police chief said that this was a man who had a plan. when he came to the school, he was looking for specific administrator. they have not identified that administrator at this point but they say she was not present at

the university at the time. so at that point he takes the receptionist hostage and then goes to look for her. he goes into a classroom, lines up several people against the wall and as you said, carol, began shooting them one by one execution style. then he leaves this area. goes out and the police chief says at that time he had time to actually reload and come back into the school and then began shooting at students at random. police say that they don't believe that he had any particular students in mind. he was shooting at any target that he could find. >> he just felt a certain urge to inflict pain on them. he gave us no exact reason why he did that. he just wanted to get back at the administration for dismissing him earlier in the year. he was looking for this one particular administrator that he

wanted to seek revenge on. >> reporter: police say that one goh got in one of the victim's cars and fled this area. he went to a safeway store about five miles away where he was taken into custody without any kind of incident at all, carol and what was interesting is that we spoke earlier to a witness who saw him being arrested. she said she made eye to eye contact with him and he didn't seem to show any emotion. he was just sweaty and nothing to tip her off that this terrible tragedy had taken place. >> thelma gutierrez reporting live from oakland, california this morning. a half hour from now we'll talk to the man who shot this video on his cell phone. he witnessed the carnage unfold and will join us live at 9:35 eastern. also this morning, possible new clues in the killing of trayvon martin. we visually enhanced the surveillance video of the shooter, george zimmerman, as he

arrived at the police station after he shot martin. these new images could support his claim that he was indeed injured and fired only to save his own life. here's cnn's deborah feyerick. >> i'm here with jason, one of our great editors here at cnn. we're going to show you a surveillance tape but in a very different way. this is the night of the shooting. let's take a look at this now. let's play it down. and you can see george zimmerman is sort of talking to police. the police officer right there looks at the back of his head to see if he can see anything. so take a look at this. this is something you actually do see what appears to be some sort of a bump. >> there's a few things i can do to enhance it. i'm going to put a contrast on it now. see if we can bring this out a little bit more.

we'll throw another color correction tool on it. i'm going to oversaturate it too so you can see the reds. >> that's interesting. >> there it looks like something is popping out. >> yeah. you see his jacket getting redder and that area getting redder. and i'm going to lighten it up a little bit. raise the whites. there you go. >> an attorney for trayvon martin's family says even if the videotape does show an injury, doesn't matter. she says george zimmerman was the aggressor and did not have the right to use deadly force against an unarmed teenager. we're seeing for the first time the mug shot of jetblue pilot clayton osbon who had a mid air meltdown last week. he appeared composed at his court hearing yesterday where a federal judge ordered had imto him to remain in custody without

bond. if convicted, he could face a maximum of 20 years in prison and $250,000 fine. a megamillions mystery woman in baltimore is now talking and insisting that she has one of the winning tickets for megamillions jackpot but mirlande wilson hasn't coughed up the actual ticket yet. lottery officials say no one has come forward. wilson is a haitian immigrant and mother of seven children and works at mcdonald's. she told wmar that a co-worker bought the ticket for her and called her while she was sleeping. >> he says your number is on tv. i said what number? i'm not sure. let me go back to sleep. i don't nope what's going on. that's what happened. >> bottom line is you have the ticket and it's yours? >> it's my ticket. it's my ticket. >> if she actually does have the

winning ticket, there's a controversy over whether it was bought for her or part of a pool with her co-workers. brian todd will have much more on this story in the 10:00 hour of "newsroom." a different ivy league. the so-called princeton of pot raided by the feds. it's the state's first training school for growing weed. protesters in favor of legalizing the drug stood outside with signs demanding marijuana be reclassified as medicine. the d.e.a. confirms an ongoing investigation of the school but didn't give out specific details. look at this chaotic scene. a small plane crashes into a supermarket injuring several people including the pilot and a passenger. some seriously. the store employee said it felt like an explosion. listen to one eyewitness. >> i heard it like artillery. you know what it is. and then boom. wow, man.

i'm surprised everybody didn't hear it, you know. >> that meat manager told a local tv station the pilot and passenger were on fire when they climbed out of the plane and he helped douse the flames. in lexington, kentucky, police were braced for violence regardless of whether the wildcats won college basketball's title game or not. turns out the university of kentucky dominated the game and local police, many of them in riot gear, struggled to control the rowdy fans. dozens of nuisance fires and one report of someone firing a gun in the direction of police and fire crews. >> it's scary. it's scary. you're out to celebrate and enjoy and have a good time and so excited and something like that happens. >> celebrations did not seem as volatile as saturday night when 20 cars were torched.

kentucky won its game to secure a chance in last night's championship matchup with kansas. talk about brighter side of basketball. let's head to new orleans. the site of that title game where we find carlos diaz this morning. it was a wild night. >> reporter: it was a very wild night here in new orleans. we drove by bourbon street around 3:45 a.m. and the kentucky fans were still chanting we are the champions on bourbon street. they've been waiting 14 years for this national championship. the school now has eight national championships making it the second most winning school in basketball history. second to only ucla. now you talk about those fires in lexington, kentucky. there were 30 fires in lexington, kentucky, last night, which is down from the 50 fires they had in lexington, kentucky, on saturday night after kentucky beat their in-state rival louisville. i guess that's an improvement. there was something on twitter, which is very interesting.

it was a hash tag that said lexington police scatter. that hash tag was popular on twitter because it allowed people to hear and basically quote some of the quotes that they heard on police scanners in lexington. i want to read two that are funny if you will. no, let them light their fireworks just as long as they're not lighting them at each other. and then one other thing heard on the police scanner last night in lexington. we have a partially nude male with a propane tank. basically what happens these days when a team wins a national title, carol. >> unbelievable. at least no one was seriously hurt. the game itself was exciting though, right? >> reporter: basically kentucky came into the tournament as the number one seed and they did not disappoint. they basically beat every team by double digits heading into the final four and beat louisville by eight and last night beat kansas by eight.

they were unchallenged. it wasn't a situation where you had the game getting any closer than six points until late in the game. it was kentucky all of the way and anthony davis and several other of the fab freshman they have in kentucky are looking at a career in the nba. john calipari gets his first national championship ever. he's kind of an embattled coach. he brought umass and memphis to the final four in recent years but those wins have been erased because of ncaa violations. he felt vindicated he could have his first national championship and john calipari interestingly enough did not want to cut down the nets in atlanta when his wildcats won in the sweet 16 because he wanted to wait until they won a national championship so last night he was up on the ladder scissors in hand cutting down the nets here in new orleans. >> carlos diaz reporting live from new orleans this morning. have you noticed mornings are extra starry this week? oprah set her alarm early to be on cbs.

"today" show obviously was just doing this to tweak abc because abc was tweaking them by putting their former employee katie couric on. >> do we have another clip of sarah palin? no. man. really wanted you to see the

spelling exchange with palin. >> and oprah is filling in on cbs. who do you think came out the winner? >> think about it. this is more of a marathon than a sprint. they are both trying to get publicity because "good morning america" is closing in on the "today" show. they've been number one for 16 consecutive years but "good morning america" is nipping at its heels and they have gotten close so they thought publicity with katie would get them -- it's an ego thing. they both make a lot of money for both networks. mornings are really important for both networks especially nbc which has major problems in prime time. a man grabbed his cell phone to film what he thought was a car crash but ended up being a tragic school shooting. he saw people with bullet wounds running out of the university in oakland, california. police say a 43-year-old man killed seven people execution style.

one goh was allegedly upset with the university for dismissing him. he's now in police custody. the person who shot this video, art richards, is with us now in oakland, california. good morning, art. >> good morning. how are you doing? >> i'm good. thank you so much for joining us. so you were driving by and you thought some kind of car crash had happened? >> yeah. i was on my way to pick up my friend across the street and i assumed there was a car crash getting out to spectate. i thought it was a car crash and there was a young lady coming out from some bushes behind a tree sort of. she said i had been shot. i was kind of mind-boggled. what do you mean? she said i've been shot. she showed me her arm. had a good chunk of arm missing. she said a man went in there and started shooting randomly

pointblank range. she said one individual at the chest and head. >> so at this point the shootings are continuing. have you hearing gunfire as you are talking to that woman? >> not at that second. about a couple minutes later there was an asian man on the other side of the grass pillars and police thought he might have been a suspect and they threw him to the ground. put cuffs on him. brought him to i.d. the man with the young lady that had been shot. she said it wasn't him. about right after that, about close to i would say seven, eight nine shots rang out. everybody got down. everybody got down. police took cover. we took cover. another five, ten minutes after that i just seen the first body come out. it was limp. they threw a blanket over him.

from there on out within that whole hour they were just pulling out bodies after bodies. >> i guess you couldn't move at that point. there's gunfire around you. you had to take cover. you had to stay there. you must have been thinking to yourself, i might die. >> well, yeah. i mean i didn't know how serious it was. coming to think it was a car crash because there wasn't that many cops. there was no news reporters around or vans or trucks. and the lady comes out with a piece of her arm missing. and then gun shots ring out shortly after that. something serious is happening at this moment. >> so you're pretty thankful this morning. >> yeah. pretty thankful, you know. there was one other individual standing with me, a man.

here's how they put it -- if she meets the legal gender recognition requirements of canada and international competitions. they didn't really elaborate on the details there. the fact of the matter is that rules really vary province by province in canada. she would need a medical certificate. she would need legal affidavits as well. she has said that she knew she was a girl from when she was 4 years old. she had hormone therapy when she was 14. a sex change at 19 years old. the main reason for the reversal of this decision here, carol, was the enormous amount of pressure from everyone in canada and around the world. they basically went online and criticized the organizers of the contest in canada saying you have to reverse it. they went on change.org for 40,000 signatures on a petition. there was supposed to be a press conference by her lawyer today. that didn't happen. she said these words of inspiration have touched my

tense moments as he hits a divider and tighters down a hill. michelle obama opening the oval office for a white house workout on the hit show "the biggest loser" tv show. will it hope fatten up the ratings? the mega woman mystery millions insists she does possess one of the winning tickets, but mirlande wilson hasn't coughed up the ticket. she works at a mcdonald's and told wmar that a co-worker bought the ticket for her and then called her while she was sleeping. >> i said what number? she said, i'm not sure, let me go back to sleep. i don't know what's going on. what's what happened. >> bottom line is you have the ticket and it's yours.

>> it's my ticket. it's just my ticket. >> if she actually does have the winning ticket, there is a controversy over whether it was bought for her or part of a pool with co-workers. our brian todd has been all over this story. he joins us from washington. you've been investigating wilson's claims. what have you found out? >> reporter: carol, i just spoke to a maryland lottery official who says this morning still no one has come forward to claim the mega millions winning ticket in that state. this is just perpetuating this mystery we've been trying to crack over whether there is just one winner in maryland or if there are several. it's out there the tiny ticket stub everyone is looking for. we've been on the hunt for the mega millions winner who will snag more than 100 million after taxes. >> nobody has come through the doors yet. >> reporter: could it be this woman? mirlande wilson told "new york post" she is the maryland winner. she told people at a deli across the street from her house.

co-workers at the mcdonald's told "the post" she was among a group who went in on the tickets together. wilson says the ticket she bought was separate from that. a key piece of evidence will be found at the baltimore 7-eleven where the winning mega millions ticket was sold from this machine. here is what they are going to be looking for. each managea millions ticket has a date and time stamp on it. they'll match it up with surveillance video, hopefully they got of this purchase taken on these two cameras here. you can see some of the return video over there. lottery officials tell us they do take surveillance of these purchases. hopefully, they'll match this up with the winning ticket and verify everything. i asked lottery spokeswoman carol everett about the dispute. what do you make of her claim at this point? >> there is nothing to make of it. again, it doesn't sound like a typical jackpot opinioner to us. i don't put much stock in that story. >> reporter: why not? >> she claims she won, she can't produce a ticket. we don't spend that much time on it other than to field questions

from the media. in our opinion, until they walk in that door, hold that ticket, produce valid identification and our security people can process and validate it, doesn't matter. >> reporter: we looked all over baltimore for mirlande wilson, at her home. on her street where neighbors say she took off. she's a good neighbor? >> yeah. she's a good neighbor. >> reporter: and at that mcdonald's. no one would talk to us on camera. the owner e-mailed us saying nothing has been confirmed about anyone there being involved. >> bring the tickets back, put them someplace where the group has oversight of them, then the person is free to do whatever they want on their own behalf. >> reporter: lottery officials tell us that when people buy these tickets in a group, they should get everything in writing. have one document with the names of everyone who is going in on it, explicit language saying they are going to share it so they can avoid these disputes

after a drawing. >> if there is a dispute. i'm just curious. you talked to the employees at mcdonald's. did they have any document? s >> reporter: we tried to talk to the employees at that mcdonald's. officials and some of their representatives wouldn't let us talk to them. we've been trying to get to them the last couple of days. they do tell us that they don't know if anyone at that mcdonald's had this in writing. apparently the people at mcdonald's wanted to buy these tickets in two batches. they had one batch according to the "new york post" they had in a safe somewhere in the mcdonald's. le mirlande wilson was asked by her boss to go to another store on the way home to buy another batch of tickets for the group. that's apparently where the purchase occurred that is in some dispute whether it's her purchase she claims it is or whether it is a purchase for the group. >> it's also possible she doesn't have the ticket at all.

>> reporter: that is very possible, right. >> thanks, brian. to oakland, california. a small christian college, new cell phone video captures the chaos as a gun man murders seven students. the cell phone video captures the gun shots and terror as the bloodshed unfolded. le we talked to the man who videotaped it. but first chilling new details are coming out this morning. oakland police chief howard jordan tells cnn the gunman killed his seven victims execution style. the shooter first took a receptionist hostage and lined students up against the wall. he began firing randomly at his victims. he was upset with an administrator and was specifically hunting for her. the suspect is 43-year-old one goh, a former student. he was arrested an hour later at a grocery store several miles away. the killing spree appears to have been much more calculated and ruthless than previously

believed. thelma gutierrez is in oakland. good morning, thelma. >> reporter: good morning, carol. the police chief told us that 43-year-old one goh came to oikos university yesterday morning with a very specific plan. they say he was looking for a particular administrator. he grabbed the receptionist. he went looking for that administrator. when he didn't find that person who was not identified and not at the school at the time, he said that they took the receptionist. they went into one of those classrooms. lined four people up against the wall, and as you say, carol, shot each one of them execution style one by one. after that, he left. the police chief told us he had time to reload a ..45 caliber rep and began to return and fire indiscriminately at any students

he could find. >> he felt a certain urge to inflict pain on them. he gave us no exact reason why he did that. he just wanted to get back at the administration for dismissing him earlier in the year. he was looking for this one particular administrator that he wanted to seek revenge on. >> reporter: police say after the shooting spree, one goh got in one of the victim's car and drove five miles from this university where he then surrendered to police. what i thought was interesting is an eyewitness account from that safeway. this woman told us that she actually looked one goh in the eye as he was being handcuffed. she said he appeared calm, he was a little sweaty, but nothing to tip her off that this terrible tragedy had happened. she didn't know that it had occurred until she went home and turned on the local news.

>> thelma gutierrez live from oakland, california. also this morning, possible new clues in the killing of trayvon martin. we visually enhanced the surveillance video of the shooter george zimmerman as he arrived at the police station after he shot martin. the clear images may support zimmerman's claim he was attacked by martin and shot him in self-defense. the newly-enhanced video more clearly shows a possible gash or injury to the back of zimmerman's head. in the meantime, a florida prosecutor is lashing out at the martin family attorney for claims the prosecutor and police chief overruled a request for zimmerman's arrest. the family asked the justice department to investigate. the state attorney calls the account outright lies. let's head now to sanford, florida, and check in with martin savidge. good morning, martin. >> reporter: good morning. this all exploded yesterday. it began with a letter that came from ben mark crumptcrum trump. he was requesting the federal

justice department investigate what he said was a meeting that took place on the night of trayvon's shooting. a meeting between the sanford police chief and the state attorney. as a result of that meeting, he says there were no charges ever brought against george zimmerman. he's implying there was some sort of impropriety. norm wolfinger said he is outraged by the outright lies contained in the letter by benjamin crump. he is pointing out he never met with the police chief here so there was no impropriety. that has been the back and forth in this war of words. >> martin savidge live from sanford. we are seeing for the first time the mug shot of jetblue might clayton osbon who had a mid-air meltdown last week. he appeared composed where a

federal judge ordered him to remain in custody without bond. osbon is charged with interfering with a flight crew. if convicted, he could face a maximum of 20 years in prison and $250,000 fine. james murdoch son of the media tycoon rupert murdoch is stepping down as chairman of bs skyb. he's been under fire over his handling of the news world hacking charge. a yacht that got smashed by a giant wave during a race around the world made its way back to the california coast. two injured sailors also back on land. they arrived in a coast guard cutter. they're recovering at a san francisco hospital. huge waves slammed the boat and left it paralyzed during the weekend. they were rescued by the u.s. coast guard. everyone is safe and sound. this could have been a real disaster near orlando monday night. a small plane crashed into a supermarket injuring several people including the pilot and

passenger. a store employee said it felt like an explosion. >> i heard this zip like artillery. and then boom! like, wow, man, i'm surprised everybody didn't hear it, you know? >> that meat manager told a local tv station the pilot and passenger actually on fire when they climbed out of the plane. he helped douse the flames. these pictures capture a big rig being towed on a snory mountain road in norway when the truck slides too close to the edge, the guard rail gives out. the rig tumbles down a cliff taking the truck driver with it. the tow truck driver managed to bail out in time. the other driver went down with the truck. he survived, but has several broken bones. sarah pail yn and katie couric are facing off again hosting on competing morning news shows at the same time.

>> reporter: so when investors come in and flip homes, they typically buy these homes at a bargain, fix them up and sell them for a big profit. i found one who turns them from ugly ducklings to beautiful swans. >> nice kitchen, nice master bathroom. >> reporter: before this realtor bought this house last fall, it had been closed on, abandoned and neglected. abbott is fixing it up and will sell it for a profit. >> we bought it for $180,000. closed on it in november last year. it's a three bedroom 1 1/2 bath, and we are converting it to a five bedroom, 2 1/2 bath. >> reporter: in the mid 2000s, flipping houses was all the rage. it drove up prices, helping to create a massive bubble. when the bubble burst, flipping

became a dirty word. >> i have people who think i'm insane for putting my money on the line and buying houses that need a lot of work, but again, if you buy it for the right price, there is no risk. or i should say the risk is minimal. >> reporter: one in four homes sold are actually bought by investors, part of the reason is because of the millions of foreclosures on the market. >> you have to live under a rock not to know there is a housing crisis going on. people get the idea in crisis is opportunity. >> reporter: what would make you buy a home with mold in the basement? >> when we see mold in a basement, we say cha-ching. we know that it's going to help us get a better price on the house. >> reporter: house flipping has its critics who worry investors can force-out young buyers looking to put down roots and rebuild communities. >> in some markets where investors are pushing out the first-time buyers, it is unfortunate because generally

over a longer term fundamentals, we want the owner occupies. in the current environment, there is the excess inventory and that excess inventory needs to be absorbed as soon as possible. the investors are helping in that process. >> reporter: abbott plans to list the renovated home this spring for $450,000. she wouldn't share how much she spent on the renovation, but says there is plenty of room for profit. >> i love taking an old, ugly house and bringing life back to it. >> reporter: in fixing up these homes, laura abbott told me what she tries to do is make these homes move-in ready to provide a service for these buyers. at $450,000 for the price that abbott plans to list the house for, it leaves her plenty of room for profit considering it was sold in 2006 for $620,000. >> still $450,000 sounds like a lot to me. she says there's minimal risk.

tornado, perhaps. we are looking at hail about two inches in diameter. wind gusts 60 to 70 miles per hour at this point. you can see the line of storms moving through. watch that falls moving northeast. hanging together. that's the severe threat. farther north, heavy rain, oklahoma city south and east of that. along the florida panhandle we are seeing rain and also around detroit. those storms dropping south and southeast. storms moving all over the place. what they are doing is following the stationary front. along and ahead of it, there are the two pockets of severe weather today. isolated tornados. the biggest threat hail and some very heavy rain and some gusty winds. in the southeast though, of course, it's the heat that's been the biggest player. that will continue to rule the roost. temperatures five to 25 degrees above average. you can see kind of where that ridge and that trough is. it's along that line where the storms are firing off. very warm conditions today. for tomorrow, really, the same area's in place for severe weather in terms of maybe hail
