complicated and we are at the begoingff a big long international conversation with the muslim world and what we are trying to convey is that just because we allow something to be broadcast, to be put on the internet in the country, does not mean that the government tor american people support it. it is a very complicated idea that we are trying to convey to people wholey in countries where that kind of thinking has not been allowed. >> you also write to the protesters that the hatred and the bloodshed will go on until you stop taking the bait. mockery of your prophet on a computer with an internet address somewhere in the world can no longer be your master or the puppet cleric who tells you the respond in violence. so writing that, william, in america interpret these words as tough love, but do you worry that what you have written will incite radical islamists to do violence? >> no, the opposite. the point i'm simply making is that since we cannot stop somebody with an iphone of making a video, we can't stop

and for a country who prides itself on freedom of speech, why is mohammed off limit to people here in america? >> i don't think that mohammed is off limits, but we don't know much about who he is, is the problem. people who speak on behalf of islam and people who say they are experts are not able to communicate to muslims and what he means to muslims. so we don't have a conversation about islam that we deserve, so you get extremist voices from each sides filling in the gap leaving the vast majority of muslims and americans in the dark. >> but regardless of the civil riselized conversation here on television tonight, i won't stop what happened and it has not stopped the protests. >> well, i think that we have to be fair when we look at the protests what is happening m. the overwhelming majority of the muslims from grass roots to the religious leader and the government leaders have
