so much for joining me, i'm carol costello. we begin in florida where a sink hole has already destroyed one building and another is on the verge of collapse. at a resort near disney world as vacationers are cast into a growing phenomenon. tell us what's happening. >> reporter: this building is collapsing right into the ground, a regular florida sink hole, we have them here all the time. but it's not often that a three-story building falls into one of those sink holes. this all started at about 11:00 last night. but it wasn't until this morning that we really got some good aerial images of exactly what this looked like and what the people inside might have been going through. we have been hearing stories from them, hearing creeking and cracking inside this building. it's one of those vacation condos that you might get if you have a timeshare, it's right outside of disney world.

those folks started seeing and hearing windows popping, a security guard was quickly able to determine that there was a big problem here. and about 15 to 20 minutes later, he had the whole building evacuated. just a couple of hours later, we were talking to some of those eye witnesses about how they scrambled to get out of that building. take a listen to this. >> one person had to break out of a window because the door frame collapsed and it was he and his wife and they had an infant. he had to break a window just so he could escape. it was the most surreal experience. i never could imagine in my wildest dreams that this would be my 2013 vacation. >> reporter: and that security guard she was talking about, the managers here are crediting him with saving some lives because as you look at the video, you can just imagine what would happen if some of those folks

would have been inside that building as it went down into that hole. right now they're still evaluating that area to see whether or not surrounding buildings might be in danger, several of them right now have already been evacuated. but there is one security guard here today that's getting a lot of credit for what he did. >> so, steve, is the sink hole deepening? widening still? do we know? >> reporter: well, i talked to the fire chief a little while ago, he's putting it at around 60 feet around and 15 to 20 feet deep, but it's really hard to tell and this can go on over the course of a day or days. they'll bring the engineers in here to try and figure out just what the risk is to everything around it. they know that that one building is a complete loss. that three-story building that's not going to be rebuilt any time soon. but now they want to know whether any of the surrounding buildings might have some problems or if there might be some subsequent areas on the property that still might have some trouble and of course you have a lot of vacationers that

came out of that building. they essentially escaped with their children in their arms and their clothes on they backs. they're left here in florida with nothing. a missing teenager back with her dad. 16-year-old hannah anderson does not appear to have any physical injuries but the emotional trauma will be haunting and probably is. police say her captor described as a long time family friend killed hannah's mother and her younger brother before whisking the teenager into the idaho wilderness. and new this morning, just how determined that dimaggio was about hiding his getaway car. but not far away, an alert came when a chance horseback rider u two of them had a chance encounter and became suspicious. >> we came upon these -- this young girl and this older man and they just really didn't fit

very well. the expressions on their face, their demeanor just didn't fit that country. they was out of place completely. they weren't dressed for the country or the area. and then as we rode further on, we encountered the tent they had set uptotally out of place, it was way up on a mountain. looked like it would make a really good lightning rod. so we were discussing the fact that they didn't fit there, something was wrong. >> you talk about how they set themselves up as campers, also one of the ladies felt there was something about hannah, who was it that wanted to reach out to hannah, they were sensing something, what was it? >> that was me. they followed us from the top of the ridge, we rode down into the lake and they followed us on foot.

and she was sitting there and i just felt like i should go over there and kind of just see if she needed help. and mark says, you know, maybe he had a feeling being in law enforcement for all those years, and in the military, he had a feeling i shouldn't maybe do that. i did talk to him about why he was there in this far out place. and he said she got to pick where we went last year, she wanted to go los angeles and hollywood. so this year was mine turn and that was a good explanation for me. but i did want to make kind of a contact with her and in retrospect i'm glad i didn't because that could have turned outerably wrong for all of us. >> she's got that right. because as you know, the suspect was shot and killed by authorities. miguel marquez is in donnelly,

idaho with more. good morning, miguel. >> reporter: good morning, there, carol. when this thing broke, a lot of people got that amber alert on their iphones. but it worked. they tracked these individuals from california all the way out here to the pristine wilderness of idaho. this morning 16-year-old hannah anderson recuperating from a hellish experience. an fbi official helping her cope with the death of her mother and her brother and a terrifying week on the run with her captor. horseback riders in the country providing an unusual tip. >> they showed up at the lake and they was just like a square peg going into a round hole, they didn't fit, he might have been an outdoorsman in

california, but he was not an outdoorsman in idaho and he didn't fit. >> reporter: few words spoken but nothing seemed right. >> usually you don't run into somebody who's wearing pajamas. >> who was wearing pajamas? >> it looked kind of like pajama bottoms that she was wearing. >> and there was a house cat that was probably purchased for hannah as a way of trying to soothe her. >> i said what are you doing with a cat in here? them cats are only good for -- you know, to lure a wolf in or to bring in a mountain lion or something. he just kind of grinned. >> reporter: what really set -- dem de -- asked if they ever feared for their lives, the answer, pure idaho. >> we were all packing pistols.

don't go in the woods without a pistol. he might have got one of us, but we would have got him. >> reporter: in the end, they didn't have to, a government surveillance plane watched for hours while they made their move. fbi were dropped off two hours from the campsite. they waited for hannah and dimaggio to separate and then they moved in. >> then they took out mr. dimaggio, it's not clear how exactly that went down. it's under review at the moment. it's also not clear what hannah actually saw of that, not sure how far award they were. physically, as you said she's okay, but it's going to be a very long recovery. first order of business for her when she returns home, the funerals for her mother and her 8-year-old brother ethan. carol? >> i can't even imagine. i cannot. miguel marquez, live from donnelly, idaho this morning. other stories we're

following this morning, just days before peace talks return, israel gets ready to free 26 palestinian prisoners. some of those prisoners have spent more than two decades behind bars. some drug offenders here in the united states could soon avoid prison. today attorney general eric holder will address the american bar association in san francisco. he'll announce that the justice department is changing its policies to eliminate mandatory minimum sentences for certain offenders. judges will get more discretion during sentencing. a plane that crashed in san francisco last month -- according to the airline, the money is separate from any medical compensation the passengers might receive and those passengers who take the money can still sue the airline. strategic alternatives, that's what blackberry is calling it which is just a fancy corporate way of saying we might want to sell our company or take

it private. allison is at the new york stock exchange with more on this. >> blackberry may have started out as the pioneer or smart phones but apparently just couldn't keep it together, so the company announced just a short time ago that it's hired a special committee to examine all it's obviouses. there could be a joint venture here, there could be a joint partnership. analysts say the company would like to go private because it would give the company time to work out its troubles, ta. blackberry can't go private on its own, it needs funding from a private equity firm. but it might be difficult to find a buyer, but the company is just not worth what it once once. it's also bleeding market share because of competition. blackberry is facing an uphill

battle just to keep up. you look at its market share now, it's got only 3% of the market share at this point. so with blackberry, carol, it's a very uncertain future for a company that was the phone of the smart phone market wurns upon a time. so we'll see if any of those options help it get on its feet. take a look at the world of sports because the big redemption day for jason dufner. cheers for jason, two years after blowing the pga championship, dufner won the tournament yesterday. it is his first major victory. but the celebration afterwards was low key, hand shakes instead of high-fives suggests the kind of guy dufner is. he spoke about coming back from the heart break of that 2011

used to kill oden lloyd on father's day. >> if she's tied to this conduct, she's in very serious trouble. >> reporter: new search warrant affidavits obtained by hernandez's hometown newspaper, in the days before hernandez was arrested, she was seen coming and going from their home. she's also seen on surveillance video leaving the house after receiving a mysterious message from the new england patriot. she allegedly puts a ridge parmj jid object into a car. remember these surveillance stills taken inside hernandez's home show him in the hours just before and after the murder of oden lloyd, holding what prosecutors believe is a gun. another defendant, carlos ortiz lelgly told police that after

exchange but it's interesting because traders are always most excited about local stars especiallily if they have anything to do with sports. but we're looking at a lower open, the dow down 55 points. this is begin to be kind of the norm. last we can see saw the dow snap -- momentum is holding up. the dow's up almost 20% this year, so it kind of is norm toll see a slowdown in august despite the fact that the economic news hasn't been all that terrific. not seeing a huge conviction to buy. not seeing those bulls charges out of the gate today. >> allison cossack, many thanks to you. san diego's mayor bob filner accused of serious sexual harassment is finished with his intensive behavior therapy. that intensive therapy lasted two weeks. at least we think so. the san diego mayor had been undergoing therapy as he continues to face a growing

tidal wave of sexual harassment accusations. more than a dozen women have come forward already with inappropriate conduct. two weeks of therapy wrapped up this weekend, one week after it supposedly started. filner's attorney has an explanation for that. he says filner actually started his treatment one week earlier than publicly announced. kim law has more for you. >> reporter: san diego mayor bob filner is believed to be back in the city he governs, one week before he was supposed to be finished. >> people are shaking their heads saying it's ridiculous, why is it continuing? >> reporter: san diego residents want him to stay away. >> really, mayor? you did what you do and you're not staying as mayor. >> reporter: u.s. senator and fellow democrat barbara boxer wrote an open letter to filner

saying you must resign. the senator talking about cnn's exclusive interviews with these two women, both former military and rape survivor who is say they were then harassed by bob filner at a support meeting. filner the former chairman of the house veterans affairs committee was invited into their women's veterans group seen as a champion of their cause. >> we're all victims of military sexual assault and it appears to me that he was targeting this organization and hitting on the women in this organization because they were easy prey. >> reporter: the city attorney's office, the sheriff's department and the california attorney general's office all working on investigating the mayor. filner's chief of staff reportedly changed the locks on the mayor's office to preserve what she calls potential evidence. the mayor remains on personal leave under the growing chorus for him to resign.

kim law, cnn san diego. >> with me now is democratic party chairwoman francine buzz by. >> in san diego, there are very few ways that a my your steps down. he either resigns, he's recalled through a very, very difficult process or, you know, he passes away or something. so i'm assuming he's still on the payroll. >> can't the city council change the law? >> well, you know, there's talk about that, but right now, he just needs to resign. it's pretty clear that he's not able to perform the responsibilities and duties of the mayor. he's certainly been a total distraction for the city. and it's time for him to move on so the city can move forward. >> but obviously, he's not ready to do that. he's undergone the supposedly intensive two weeks of therapy

and he's going to come back and say, gosh, i'm cured, now i can deal with women in a respectful manner. >> i doubt that anyone believes that anyone can recover from this in two weeks of therapy. he needs to listen to the city, including the party who elected him, and he needs to step down so the city can move on. this is just becoming just such a huge distraction here and he needs to take personal responsibility because he's the only one that is responsible for this. >> how did this man become mayor and manage to cover up this behavior for so long? >> you know, he was also a 30-year elected official with a record of legislative achievements and people did know him as a legislator and elected official. and while there were some people who heard stories about, you know, him inviting women out or being flirtatious, it was not like this was general knowledge

and everybody knew everything. san diego is a changed city, it used to be a very conservative city, a very republican city. now it's very diverse in its population and bob filner brought a vision to this city that nobody had seen before. so in that sense, people elected him to do something very different and very positive for the city. but clearly, he is not in a position to do that now and, you know, this other side of him has come out that, certainly not everybody knew about and it's just destroyed his ability to govern. >> and i might say conservatives really don't appreciate his behavior either. a final question for you, can the democratic party do anything to oust him? is there any move by the democratic party of california or san diego to do something? >> well, the san diego democratic party took a very strong stand asking him to step down several weeks ago and i think we sent a very powerful

message that we are not going to be standing with him as he continues in the mayor's office because we don't think he can govern. we still believe in the vision, we still believe in the reason we elected him, but certainly we don't believe that he's the person to carry that forward. so i think we were very quick to ask him to step down once those charges came out and due process was in place, he will get his day in court, the women will get their day in court i they'll all have their fair hearing, but as far as them being a able to function as mayor, we don't believe he can do that. >> francine busy, thank you for joining us this morning. the death of corrie monteith's death shocked hold hollywood and for the first time lea michele is speaking out. you'll hear from her next.

season five of the show last week. ryan murphy who is the producer of the show thsay they're goingo address his death in the third episode of the season. they don't know how, but they are going to deal directly with his death. and they're going also going to have the cast make a public address announcement. "money" magazine just released a list of the 100 best places to live. we'll tell you who made the list.

think you live in the best town of america? you're right if you call sharon, massachusetts your home. that's according to to "money" magazine who just released it's list of the best places to live in the united states. let's start with the best. sharon, massachusetts, why is it the best? >> well, you'll see this throughout the towns that we have picked, economic strength, it's centrally located between providence, boston and route 128. so if that helped insulate it from the recession, it's unemployment rate is less than 5% which is 2.5 percentage rates below the national average right now. it's also one of the most

diverse towns that we see, both economically, racially and ethnically. it has one of the biggest mosques in the new england area. and it is it used to be a summer resort and 40% of the place is open land. >> okay. so to be fair for all the cities in your choices, you also listed the downside of each town. what is the downside of sharon? >> like any place in the northeast, it's more expensive than the average town, but it's not quite as expensive as some of the areas around -- closer to boston. that said, it does have high home prices and higher taxes, but, you know, you sort of pay up, you get a lot more for that. it's got excellent quality schools. >> it's kind of cold in the winter, too, right? >> that's another thing. that's right. >> round out the top five small cities for us, will you? >> oh, sure. the next one on the list is louisville, colorado, which has been on the number one several

times on our list. it's still going strong. it's got a very strong local economy and the rocky mountain outdoor life. we have vienna, virginia, a d.c. suburbs. a lot of the suburbs could be a little cookie cutter but not vienna. it's a beautiful town with a historic downtown center. it's got lots of parks and also a very low unemployment rate and top, top schools. then number four, we come down to number four on the list, which is chanhassen, minnesota. that's a place that's also very strong economically. they're investing in their school system. they spent more than $700,000 on tech projects for the public schools, and talk about affordable home prices. the median home price there is about $200,000. and number five for us is sherwood, oregon, which is a suburb of portland. it's close to mt. hood and the

younger brother before whisking the teenager into the idaho wilderness. and new this morning, images of just how determined james dimaggio was in hiding his getaway car. look very closely at the images and you will see the brush and timber that made the car virtually invisible both from the ground and from the air. but not far away the big break came when an alert horseback rider, three of them, four of them actually, had a chance encounter. they became suspicious. they called authorities who tracked them down and shot and killed dimaggio once he stepped safely away from the teenager. her rescue came as much needed consolation for family and friends who are mourning the deaths of her mother and brother. here is a great aunt of the teenager. >> i can't even cry anymore i'm so happy. i don't have any tears left. >> me neither. >> it's been such a hard week. >> the sense of dread only grew in the days after the teenager's disappearance as we learned shocking details about her

abduct abductor, dimaggio, and chilling parallel was his very troubled father. cnn'swian is live in san diego to tell us more. >> reporter: good morning. truly bizarre details emerging about james dimaggio's father as hannah anderson's family here in the san diego area anxiously awaits her return. >> our baby girl. >> reporter: the family of 16-year-old hannah anderson after fearing the worst for nearly a week. >> i'm so glad she's safe. >> reporter: before leaving for idaho, hannah's father texted cnn he was nervous and excited about their reunion. as the family looks forward to hannah's future, there are new questions about her alleged kidnapper's past. james dimaggio was described as hannah's father's best friend, a valuable handyman, a trusted uncle figure to hannah and her brother, ethan. but he was also the son of another troubled man, also named james dimaggio, who held the 16-year-old daughter of a former girlfriend captive in 1989.

now a woman, she spoke with cnn affiliate kfmb. >> i asked him not to kill us, and he said, don't worry, you won't feel a thing. >> reporter: she escaped and the elder james dimaggio went to prison. the woman attended the same high school as his son who says told her this one day. >> i was talking to my locker, and his son said, my dad is out, and he said to let you know he'll be waiting for you after school. >> reporter: friday on piers morgan tonight, a friend of the younger dimaggio warned that his father's past might be influencing the son's actions. >> what i found out was that jim's father had committed suicide in 1998. >> reporter: to be exact, dimaggio's father took a fatal drug overdose august 10th, 1998, 15 years to the day before an fbi agent killed his son in these remote idaho woods, freeing another 16-year-old girl. there's another date that may have influenced all of this,

august 3rd. that's the day james dimaggio's father disappeared before he committed suicide. it's also the same date that dimaggio's mobile home was found in flames, burning up the body of hannah anderson's young brother and mother and launching the manhunt that finally ended over the weekend. carol? >> casey wian, live from san diego this morning. just hours ago, a hotel not far from disney world was ripped apart and swallowed by a massive sinkhole. authorities said the sinkhole, which measures 60 feet wide and 15 feet deep is growing deeper. 35 guests staying at the slumber bay resort in lake county, florida, were sent scrambling when the thing started sinking. they were forced to evacuate. >> one person had to break out of a window. him and his wife and his infant, he had to break the window so they could escape. then there were windows breaking everywhere. one of the security guards ran up and was evacuating people,

barging into their rooms. it was the most surreal experience i never could imagine in my wildest dreams that this would be my 2013 vacation. >> the stories she'll have to tale. we'll have much more on the story at the bottom of the hour in about 20 minutes. we'll take you live to florida. big changes could keep some drug offenders out of prison. attorney general eric holder will announce today he is eliminating the mandatory minimum prison sentence for certain nonviolent drug offenders. in an excerpt of his speech released to cnn, holder will say in flexible sentences, quote, reduce the discretion available to prosecutors, judges, and juries. they breed disrespect for the system. when applied indiscriminately, they do not serve public safety. they have had a disabled effect on communities, and they are ultimately counterproductive. ashley banfield anchors "legal view" on cnn and this is a big

shift by the justice department. >> it is. we have talked about these stories forever. prison overcrowding. we've got 5% of the world's population here in america, but we have 25% of the world's prisoners and it's costing us roughly $80 billion a year, at least that's the 2012 stat. so what the justice department is saying on the federal level only, he's suggesting this, eric holder, that they're going to start leaving off some information on those indictments, specifically information about how much illegal substances you were caught with because that is a way to side step the existing laws on those mandatory minimums. and, carol, mandatory minimums basically put a stranglehold on judges. they lose that discretion which means you're in the slammer regardless and we have nothing to say on it regardless of whether you're violent, regardless of whether you have a violent past, regardless of all these things that maybe, just maybe, i don't know a drug treatment program could deal with. so what's critical here, carol, is that we're not changing the laws. we're just changing how we handle the laws and that's what

eric hold ser doing. >> for example, if you get caught with a certain amount of, i don't know, heroin or ecstasy or something like that, a judge won't automatically sentence you to a number of years in prison. he has discretion to do something else. >> because that critical information will now be left off the indictments. the prosecutors are all being told now by the feds, don't put that information in there because that's what gets you to those mandatory minneapolis. not everybody though. look, there are still those who will not qualify for this and there's like a four-point deal here. the criteria you have to meet if you're one of those unfortunate people to get caught and to do those kinds of things, you can't be violent, you can't have a weapon or involve sales to minors, you can't be a leader of a criminal organization or have significant ties to gangs or cartels, and you can't have a significant criminal history either. so lest anybody watching right now thinks, good god, we're allowing a bunch of drug thugs out onto the streets, that's not necessarily what this is intended to be. can i also just mention, there might be a lot of people with

open mouthing gaping saying the republicans will be -- this will be red meat for them. not really because there are a lot of states that have been doing things just like this, red and blue, and there's support, bipartisan support, for this kind of thing. we have a problem. we have way too many prisoners and not enough prison space and it's a lot of money. >> it's bigger than that. the war on drugs in america just isn't working. it's clear it's not working. statistics support that. so you would like to think it's more than just jail overcrowding that's forcing these changes. you would think you have to treat addicts instead of just sending them to jail and maybe that will help. >> very well thought out, miss costello, because that's what eric holder said, too. there's a moral issue here, as well. remember that stat quoted at the beginning of the conversation? 25% of the world's prisoners and 5% of the world's population. we're doing something wrong. it's not that we're a more violent or dangerous or difficult nation than other nations. we're just incarcerating at a rapid, rapid rate, and eric

dismissed as a joke or considered a serious threat. it's a fine line that may be crossed by a 19-year-old. after spending months in jail, he has a chance to get the charges dismissed. cnn's pamela brown has more for you. >> reporter: this is the facebook post that turned 19-year-old justin carter's life upside down. >> this kid is just beaming with -- he's beaming with life. he's just trying to -- you know, and they took it all away from him. >> carter spent five months in jail after writing in part, i think i'm going owe shoot up a kindergarten and watch the blood of the innocent rain down during a heated threat about an online game. authorities charged him with making a terroristic threat. his family says it was nothing more than a sarcastic comment. >> the idea my son would ever hurt small children is just ludicrous. he never would. he's not that kind of person. >> reporter: now carter's lawyers hope this screen grab

will actually help their case. according to court documents they claim carter made no real threat because he used the words i think. carter's attorneys want the judge to throw out the case on first amendment grounds. >> they need to look at the context of what's put online. because if they would have, i think they would have seen that it was sarcasm. >> reporter: investigators tell cnn they found evidence carter was engaged in online bullying and made his threat to a woman, a random stranger, though several warrants turned up no evidence of an actual plot. now, another college student, caleb clemens, will go on trial for a similar situation. clemens, a student at georgia southern university, has been behind bars for six months for a post on tumbler, writing, i plan on shooting georgia southern. pass this around to see the affect it has to see if i get arrested. he said it was an experimental literary piece and part of an art project. now he's fighting for his freedom.

>> and just like in carter's case, police in georgia found clemens had no actual plans to attack the school and he didn't own any weapons. today in court, carter's attorneys want the judge to order the state to release the full conversation of that facebook post along with any information about where the post came from, grand jury recordings, testimony, and transcripts. we have reached out to prosecutors in both cases and are still awaiting comment. of course, we will continue to update you on both of these cases. carol? >> we look forward to it. it is vacation time for president obama, but before the president left for martha's vineya vineyard, he had some strong words for nsa leaker edward snowden. now snowden's father is hitting back. cnn's dan lothian is in martha's vineyard with more. good morning, dan. >> reporter: good morning, carol. well, you know, for the president, yes, he's on vacation but it's always a working vacation, and he can't escape the snowden case. the nsa leaker's father delivering a harsh rebuke while at the time strongly defending

time to check our top stories. there is a new twist in the murder case against former nfl player aaron hernandez. the bristol press is reporting that investigators are now focusing on hernandez's fiancee, specifically whether she hid the murder weapon. according to the paper, she was seen removing something from the house. shark week became a little too real for a 10-year-old south carolina surfer. tyson royson says an eight-foot-long bull shark grabbed onto his leash at a surfing competition. he said he was able to fight the shark off, swim to safety. that surfing contest has been postponed until next month. roads turned into rivers in colorado over the weekend. at least one person died, two others still missing after flash floods ripped through colorado. take a look at the stunning video. is shows car being literally

swept away. look at that. that's crazy. firefighters say the waters reached speeds of up to 30 miles per hour. meteorologist jennifer delgado is here in the severe weather center, and that's some scary pictures. >> scary pictures. that's something we typically see coming out of monsoon season say out of yand with all the rushing water there. they picked up 1.5 inches of rainfall in a very short amount of time but the terrain made the situation worse because the water came down the mountain and the region is recovering from a wildfire the year before, so there was nothing for that water to held onto. so basically all the water just swept through the channel. you can see the burn scar. this is what we talk about, the flooding there, the video of the rushing water, and why we say you never travel through a flooded street. but back over to our graphic here very quickly. what you're seeing in red, carol, this is actually vegetation this is alive. what you're seeing in green, this is the vegetation that was killed in the wildfire the year before. so this whole area a bad

situation. we are still talking about more rain for parts of the midwest, carol. some of these locations are going to be dealing with flooding as we go through the next couple days because we have a front that's coming through, and that frontal system, carol, is going to mean some very heavy rainfall and some problem spots with flooding. we have increased some of the f flood watches for parts of the plains and the midwest. but there is going to be a cooldown courtesy of a cold front. temperatures in chicago tomorrow, 74 degrees, carol. sunny. you need a day off. >> i do. >> maybe two? wednesday. >> thank you, jennifer. >> you're welcome. all right, apple fanatics, talk about the tech giant's next event is already heating up. alison kosik is live, and she has her finger on the pulse of apple this morning. >> yes, i do. drum roll, please. there's talk of a september -- thank you, thank you -- talk of a september 10th event.

this is when this iphone is going to be unveiled. it's all talk, no confirmation yet. these things are always the worst kept secrets. apple executives dropped the big hint on a conference call a few months ago saying aping has some exciting new products in the pipeline for fall. it makes sense when you look at their history. the last two iphones also came out in the fall. what's going to be on the new iphones? this is what we're hearing. the next iphone will have a camera, it's expected to be faster. there will be a fingerprint sensor on the phones as well and they will run on the ios 7 operating system. now, one thing analysts are looking for, carol, is that this phone is not priced at the high end. they're looking for a lower cost iphone that will maybe grab consumers who aren't willing to shell out hundredses of dollar for the iphone. >> interesting. thank you very much. appreciate it. it's monday. what can i say?

a federal judge says a controversial new york police department's frisking policy is, indeed, unconstitutional. it allows officers to stop and frisk anyone they deem suspicious. it was a highly criticized program. an outside monster will itor wi appointed to stop that policy. the passengers on asiatic 214 which crashed in san francisco last month will each get $10,000. the money is separate from any medical compensation they will receive and the passengers who take the money can still sue the airline. just days before peace talks resume, israel gets set to free some two dozen palestinian prisoners. the names of 26 to be released were published this morning. some of those prisoners have spent more than two decades behind bars. disney world is just down the street, but a cruel reality is underfoot. some florida tourists discovered

a giant sinkhole had opened right in the middle of the resort in which they were staying. it swallowed one building and is now chewing away at another. a short time ago we talked with reporter steve barrett of wftv. he's in claremont, florida. >> this building is collapsing right in the ground. it's not often that a three-story building falls into a sinkhole. this all started at about 11:00 last night, but it wasn't until this morning that we really got some good aerial images of exactly what this looks like and what the people inside must have been going through. we heard stories of them sort of hearing creaking and cracking inside of this building. it's one of those vacation rental condos you might get if you have a time share. it's right outside of walt disney world. these folks then started seeing and hearing windows popping. a security guard was quickly able to determine that there was

a big problem here. about 15 to 20 minutes later, he had the whole building evacuated. just a couple hours later we were talking to some of those eyewitnesses about how they scrambled to get out of that building. take a listen to this. >> one person had to break out of a window because the door frame collapsed and it was him and his wife and an infant. he had to break the wind oow so they could escape. there were windows breaking everywhere. one of the security guards was evacuating people, barging into their rooms. it was the most surreal experience. i never could imagine in my wildest dreams that this would be my 2013 vacation. >> reporter: and that security guard she was talking about, the managers here are creditingim with saving some lives because as you look at the video, you can just imagine what would happen if some of those folks would have been inside that building as it went down into that hole. right now they're still

evaluating that area to see whether or not surrounding buildings might be in danger. several of them right now have already been evacuated, but there is one security guard here today that's getting a lot of credit for what he did. >> so, steve, is the sinkhole deepening, widening still? do we know? >> reporter: well, i talked to the fire chief a little while ago. he's putting it at around 60 feet around and 15 to 20 feet deep. but it's really hard to tell and this can go on over the course of a day or days. they will bring the engineers in here to try to figure out what the risk is to everything around it. they know one building is a complete loss. that three-story building, that's not going to be rebuilt anytime soon. but now they want to know whether any of the surroundings buildings might have some problems or if there are subsequent areas on the property that might have trouble. of course, you have a lot of vacationers that came out of that building. they essentially escaped with their children in their arms and their clothes on their back. they're left here in florida

this morning a kidnapped teenager is back with her dad. 16-year-old hannah anderson does not appear to have any physical injuries, but it will take her quite some time to recover emotionally. police say her captor, ahm man described as a lone-time family friend, killed her mother and younger brother before whiking the teenager into the idaho wilderness. and new this morning, images of how determined james dimaggio was in hiding his getaway car. if you look closely you will see the brush and timber that made the car virtually inadvivisiblem

the ground and air. the break came when alert horseback riders had a chance encounter with the two and became suspicious. >> we came upon these -- this young girl and this older man, and they just really didn't fit very well. the expressions on their face, their demeanor, just didn't fit that country. they was out of place completely, and they weren't dressed for the country or the area, and then as we rode further on, we encountered the at the point that they had set up which was totally out of place. it was way on top of a mountain. looked like it was -- would make a real good lightning rod, so we were discussing the fact that they didn't fit there, that something was wrong. >> so it's interesting, you're talking about the particulars of how they set themselves up as campers, but also one of the ladies felt there was something

about hannah. ladies, will you speak to that? who was it who felt they wanted to reach out and speak to hannah. they were sensing something. what was it? >> that was me. they followed us from the top of the ridge. they rode down into the lake, and they followed us on foot, and she was sitting there, and i just felt like i should go over there and kind of just see if she needed help, and mark says, you know, maybe he had a feeling being in law enforcement for all those years and in the military, he had a feeling i shouldn't maybe do that. i did talk to him about why he was there in this far out place, and he said she got to pick where we went last year. she wanted to go to los angeles and hollywood. so this year was my turn, and that was a good explanation for me. but i did want to make kind of a contact with her, and in

retrospect i'm glad i didn't, because that could have turned out terribly wrong for all of us. >> the couples say they saw hannah's picture on television once they got home and immediately alerted police. the authorities tracked the teenager and her abductor, and then shot and killed dimaggio when he stepped a safe distance away from hannah. just ahead, what to name your baby? it's a tough decision, but now it's really tough for one mother in tennessee. she says a judge has actually forced her to change her son's name.

there were no problems for him on sunday, that wasn't the case earlier this year when he struck a rather unfortunate and unscripted pose. he was caught on camera in a dallas, texas, classroom. that's the phenomenon that became as dufnering. his pga tour buddies, and i use that term loosely, taking full advantage by tweeting and retweeting pictures of the unfortunate post. i'm wondering, are we now going to be seeing a whole lot more of this dufnering? >> maybe. i don't know. i have only done it -- that's the only time i have done it. actually i did it once with lindsey vonn because she asked me, but, you know, they caught me in a moment of relaxation i guess and then the guys all out here tried to give me a good ribbing on it and get me in trouble and all this stuff. but i kind of ran with it and it turned out to be a good thing and a lot of people have taken to it so maybe i will give them a special treat later this week when i get home with the trophy.
