having an underage same-sex relationship is facing felony charges. will the san diego mayor return to work and will he resign. this is cnn newsroom. we're learning more about the condition of suspected boston marathon bomber. we have details about how badly he was injured. >> we're getting details from these documents. it was released yesterday. they do detail what the trauma surgeon who operated after he have captured by police what he says about the extent of the injuries. you see the photos there that we've seen previously showing him so bloody and battered.

i want to walk through what these documents call severe injuries an multiple gunshot wounds. the most severe was through the left side of his mouth. it exited his face on the alllo left han side. that was a high powered injury. it was a skull base fracture, one of his vertabrae. these are from testimony that his trauma surgeon gave just days after he have captured back in april. it's apparent that these are likely from the shoot out that was had with police in watertown before the man hunt for them

concluded with his capture. there were gunshots fired by authorities when tsarnaev was in that boat. i found something very interesting. they talked about his state of mind. was he lucid enough to answer questions. his doctor said yes. he knows he's here. he's capable of answering your questions. he was lucid enough to answer authorities. this is the first time we're able to see and read what the injuries were. it was hours ago an explosion rocked a navy base in new jersey. eight people were injured. one seriously. t happened at navel weapons station earle.

in. we have been out here all morning and have not seen him yet. you see that black suv. that's the mayor's vehicle. two members of his security detail just showed up about two minutes ago without the mayor. we suspect that he may actually be about two blocks from here where there's a lawyer's office and he's mediation negotiations have been going on. we're see that security detail walking toward the mayor's vehicle as we speak. we think that perhaps they dropped the mayor off at that building. he was there yesterday during these negotiations with plebs of the city council, the city attorney, gloria allred was there yesterday. these negotiations centered around all these investigations going on into the mayor an his political future. no one though is talking about the negotiations, where they stand, what is actually being discussed. we do know that all the parties,

except for the mayor, but many of the other parties we saw yesterday are back in that building an we can say those mediation negotiations have resumed again today. it went for about nine hours yesterday. >> we see there's a will the of attention being paid to the vehicle there. do we think the mayor is inside or those are some folks that are related to the office? can you hear me? >> reporter: i'm not hearing you if you're talking to me. >> we're going to let you go and maybe we can get you back to ask some additional questions. across idaho there's more than a thousands firefighters battling wildfires. more than 100,000 acres so far have burned. this is the resort area of sun valley. there's thousands of homes in danger now. the residents are under mandatory evacuation.

less than 10% of this fire under control. how quickly can they get a handle on this? >> reporter: they are making progress. yesterday was a good day for them. they made some progress. the containment levels are still down. what they are concerned about is lightning strikes in the forecast. the bottom line is firefighters are cautiously optimistic if they can make progress today from the air. they just started flying their assets, they think they can get a hold of this fire and get some people back in their homes. >> show us what's behind you. this is where they come and sleep at night. they sleep in tents.

they come in with their vehicle. private firefighters are here. they've opinion hibeen hired by companies to protect high dollar homes. they come in here and check with the fire demand center. there are thousands of homes in the order of evacuating but residents in this tiny town, this is call ld at led atlanta,. they decided they will try to stay and hold their ground against the fire. greg, can you hear us? >> i can. >> give us a sense of who is with you. is it a small community that's decided to stay? >> i would say the majority of the permanent residents or the year round residents are here.

a lot of cabin owners have left and the elderly have left. >> why are you staying? there's an evacuation to get you out of there. >> yesterday was not -- the winds helped us yesterday. they lifted the mandatory evacuation. there were quite a few people involved with the volunteer fire department who have stayed. we're still waiting for equipment. once that arrives we'll be setting up around town. they're concerned since the fire is four miles away from us that it could push toward us.

all we need is one afternoon with good winds for it to hit us. >> have you sign any signs of smoke or anything? >> reporter: big fire storms every afternoon. the wind picks up and blows at 3, 4:00 in the afternoon. >> how are you protecting your home? >> people are irrigating and clear brush. we can mitigate the problems. once the equipment arrives there are some tankers trucks from the forest service. there are some hot shot crews and they will start working it. yesterday there was a lot of air power in the beginning. we're starting to see, it was a little bit better.

we had an emergency meeting and they were telling everybody to leave. at the request of the fire chief. a lot of us stayed. >> i want to wrap it here. there's a point that you will leave if you realize it's too dangerous to stay? >> everybody has -- everything pretty much packed up in their vehicle. we'll be able to see it hit the ridge. at that point everybody can drive. >> all right. >> the firefighter is not going to impact the road we have to get on. we're hopeful if it gets that close that we can get out. >> we're hopeful for you as well. we hope you stay safe. thank you for talking with us. very different story.

who takes a look at the background of this case. >> reporter: she appeared to be a frightened 18-year-old. her freedom on the line. >> i'm scared of losing the rest of my life, not going to clenl and being around kids and my sisters and my family. >> reporter: that was february. she's been accused of two counts of lewd battery. the victim, a minor, a 14-year-old female schoolmate. they claim it was consentual. >> to hold someone accountable for having sex with a peer seems unreasonable. >> reporter: she was ordered not to have any contact with the 14-year-old. prosecutors now say she did and not just once or twice. they say they had 20,000 text messages between the two since the no contact order. in one prosecutors say hunt

wrote quote, no matter what if they found out we've talked i'm going to jail until trial starts, end quote. in another prosecutors say there was this exchange. the 14-year-old texted the assistant state attorney asked me today if anyone saw us in the bathroom when we would do stuff. should i have said names. hunt responds, no, say nobody. prosecutors say the texts were sent on an ipod hunt put in the 14-year-old's school locker after the court ordered no contact and there were videos sent too, sexually explicit. if that's not must have prosecutors are accusing her mother of sending texts to the minor. in one please delete everything and nick sure no one finds out you've spoken to kate at all, end quote. neither would comment and her attorney has not returned cnn's

calls. >> john is joinening us from miami. there's now an additional charge. what's behind that? >> reporter: based on the fact she had, according to prosecutors, sent these on an ipod, the video, still pictures, text messages. they have added a third count. now the state is added transmission of material harmful to a minor by electronic equipment. now she faces another very, very, very serious charge. the irony is that just last month the state offered her a deal where if she pleaded guilty to one felonycount that could be expunged later and two misdemeanors. in exchange she would get no jail time, no ankle bracelet. she wouldn't have a sexual predator label attached to her

bo biden is in the hospital after disorientation and weakness. he said it happened after a long drive while on vacation. i want to bring in elizabeth cohen to talk about this. how serious do we want to think this is? >> i want to emphasis how much we don't know. i think what has a lot of people concerned and asking questions is the hospital he's at which is md anderson in houston which is a cancer center. that's all they do. when we think of disorientation

an weakness we don't think of cancer but that can happen. we know that mr. biden had a stroke back in 2010. i know this sounds weird but strokes and cancer can be related. there's some cancers that can lead to you having a stroke. this is all a maybe, maybe, maybe. again, we don't know what's going on. but there is concern when you hear that someone is being evaluated at a center this only evaluate and treat cancer. that's all they do. >> do we know what kind of tests or things they might be looking at? >> we don't. everything we know is what you read. we don't know what kind of tests he's having done. one of the questions they're going to ask is the stroke that he had in 2010 and the disorientation and weakness he had more recently, are those two things connected and what role, if any, does cancer play is a question that comes to our minds

filed. this happened in may. as a limo crossed the san francisco bridge. it was friction between the car's drive shaft and the rear floorboard that started that fire. the 12-year-old michigan girl who was mauled by a bear is speaking out about the whole ordeal. this is abby. she was out gging night when she was ambushed by a black bear outside her home. she said she tried to run at first but it just took her down. then she decided to play dead. >> i thought i had nothing else to lose. it might save my life so why not do it. that's what i did. the bear ran away and looked e back an ran away more. he just kept looking back at me. i'm thinking he's going to come back and kill me. then it just ran away. >> she had to get dozens of

pain over. we got some breaking news we're following. this just developed over a past couple of minutes. this is according to our affiliate wsb that there's a report of a shooting at a local school in georgia here. we're talking about this information coming from dekalb county chairman. there's an active shooter at mcnar elementary school. wsb reporting they had seen that dozens of teachers an students who evacuated the building raced out of the building and that according to wsb that there were people, officers who were swept

into the school to figure out what's going on and they had one suspect in custody. at least according to the local affiliates that they do have one person who is in custody. now, the chairman says that there are been reports of shots fired. the gun plan has not been located. we have a number of vantsage points here. one from news chopper two showing the children were running from the building earlier today as well as some of the adults. the teachers that were there. this is the ronald e. mcnair discovery learning academy. it's a charter school. it's located in decatur, georgia. there was one person that has already been taken into custody. what we're watching is a scene out of decatur, georgia.

this is an elementary school. several reports of shots fired flds that school. this is a place where we heard they are telling us they have done drills. they have done drills to practice getting out of building and take cover. they are gathered outside. so far all we know is there's reports of shots that were fired inside of that elementary school. some have entered the building. you see behind the school, the school buses and some of the kids who have gathered outside. you can only imagine. you can only imagine how the

i want to follow this breaking news situation. this is out of decatur, georgia. a shooting at a local school in the area. i want to go to our affiliate coverage, wgcl to dip in. let's just listen in and find occupant a bit more of what's going on. let's just listen in and find out what's going on. >> sitting around on standby was a it's 1:38 in the afternoon. these live pictures of mcnair discovery learning center over the scene and has been for you this afternoon since we got word of these shots fired at the school. we are hearing no students are

hurt. that's the good news. we're hearing a gunman or shooter is in custody. was it confirm anyone heard shots fired? >> that's what we're still unsure. we haven't heard if there were shots fired. did the gunman get off a shot. right now we're being told it was an incident and there was a gunman but whether he fired we don't know. >> you can see investigators an police officers on the scene. they've got somebody in custody. it's figuring out if it's somebody off campus or on campus. it looks as if there's homes around this area too. they may be questioning people. i see crime scene tape.

>> these images we saw earlier of these students being raced out of the school, police carrying them it's enough to make you want to cry. when you hear this sort of thing it's just heartbreaking. your heart stops. you just think, oh, my gosh, not again. folk, fortunately, today we're being told at least no student wrs injured. do we know of anyone injured. we know no students were injured, but do we know if any faculty or staff or any other administrators or anything? >> no word on that. i suspect we might see an ambulance or emergency technicians on scene if that was the case. the absence of that may be pointing us to a good indication that no one needs medical attention. we don't know if anyone was hurt, as far as anyone on the faculty. looks like the kids are

gathering in larger group as they prepare to get on to the buses. do we know the ages of these kids? i'm hearing no injuries, no faculty, staff. children, everybody on campus is safe and the gunman who we are working to identify is in custody. you can see some school administrators directing students and letting them know what we'll do flexion. the idea if you've worked with children or you have children you want to keep them informed. it looks as if mcnair has a broad range of students. these are the little kids coming out and the children over by the bus unlessly perspective is off, they look like they are older students. >> it does appear that mcnair learning discovery has pre-k through fifth grade. >> we're probably seeing kindergarteners and first

graders coming out. we're working to find out the exact location of that walmart too so that parents can get informed and know exactly where they need to go pick up their children. bernard watson has been following this for us. what do you have on your end? can you hear me? bernard watson has been on scene gathering information. they're keeping media back away. understandably, keeping everybody back. they don't wabt to put the children in anymore danger and they want to do a complete and thorough investigation. first and foremost the safety of these children and it looks as if they will be getting on these buses shortly. taking to walmart so their parents can pick them up. bernard watson, can you hear me? we're working to get him back. >> producers maybe can figure out what walmart that is.

i'm sure there are a lot of parents watching today who are obviously frantic and concerned and want to meet their students. we would love to be able to tell parents where to go to meet up with their students. you're looking live right now. cbs has a sky over mcnair learning academy. we understand a gunman was inside the school. no one with hauas hurt and a gus taken into custody. >> i know in fulton county, the county in which my child goes to school, they will send out not only a text, an e-mail blast and phone message blast to all parents and staff if there's any sort of incident. it koulcould be weather related something like there. they may have that on their phones. getting their information while

at work to find out exactly where they need to go to pick up their children and let them know their children are safe. that's the most important thing in all of this as we watch live. as the kids gather outside on what is surely their first or second week of school and a quite scary one at that. no one is hurt and the gunman is in custody. the investigation continues into what happened. i don't know if this school has metal detectors or anything like that. it may not. it appears it's more of a private academy and that may not be something that they do or that they feel the need to do. >> our producer is continuing to feed new details into our ear now. as we bring them to you as he passes along to us. he just told us that students are not leaving the school just yet. it pyappears they may be somedayisomeday i staying at school.

where a shooter on a school campus. a lot of people still out here wondering what's going on and when they will be able to walk down further to the school, wob wondering what happened. we're seeing a lot of swat officers driving by now. just a lot of activity pm people wondering what's going on. less people here now than earlier. that's what we have here. >> do you get a blast or an e-mail if somebody's going on that you need to know about or a message on your phone? >> yes, we usually get an e-mail or a text message. i heard you mention earlier when you get something from the school your heart rate jumps a bit because you want to know what it is and is your kid involved. certainly when parents are hearing situations like this they have to be concerned. >> hopefully something went out to let the parents know the

children are safe. we're taking a look on the left hand side of the screen. sort of a media staging area. that's a lot of police cars there. is that what you're seeing, your vantage point? >> we were overtaken by like a dozen, 15 or more police cars coming at a high rate of speed. their sirens wailing. everybody just pulling over and getting out of the way. as soon as they passed u they stopped. some of them stopped and blocked off the street. clearly they knew what they were doing and what they were supposed to do. they shut this area down and i mean quickly. we had no way of getting in. we had to wind our way around. it was quite clear that police had the situation under control in terms of sealing it off and keeping people away until they got a handle on the situation. >> have you seen any ambulances coming in or out of the area? >> we saw several come in. where i'm standing is dekalb

county fire and rescue. they are just standing here. i have not seen anybody, any paramedics or first responders attending to anybody. it also appears some of these police officers are leaving the scene. as i mentioned we just saw four or five swat members leaving in their vehicles. we're getting some movement in terms of resources leaving the scene. still quite an active scene. >> sure. we haven't seenfully medical technicians or ambulances come up to the school either. there seems to be a spot across from the school where they have put up some crime scene tape. i'm wondering if they caught or arrested the shooter off campus and maybe that's an area where whoever had this gun, i say shooter, we don't know if any shots were fired, but the person who had the gun was arrested off campus. we're working to find out more information. have you seen other areas off

campus that are taped off with crime scene tape? >> let me tell you this right now. as we speak they have pulled down one of barricades. they are allowing people to go closer to the school which is they are starting to wrap up to a certain degree. before we were kept back a couple hundred yards from the school. we're now being allowed to walk further closer to that school. there might be some more information available now. >> all right. >> what are parents doing there now? can you tell in. >> i think most of the parents left because they were told to go to that walmart. most of them ran down there. really right now, where i am, most of the people live around this area and some media members. >> people wondering what's going on. we can see police and school buses leaving the scene. i don't know if any children are on that bus. last word we got from you is

against the fence far away from the school as police escorted and in fact in one case carried the students out of the school. >> those are images that all of us, they're zeroed into our mind after places like columbine where you saw the kids running out, jumping out of windows. newtown, you hope never to see it again. the good take away in all of this is that no one was hurt and that's the most important thing. these live pictures on the left are of the media center not too far away from the school where bernard watson has been gathering new information. as bernard told us, police are leaving. they're scaling back some of the patrols and the s.w.a.t. team i believe was there. that's a good thing. that's a good sign that maybe the investigation will continue, i'm certain of that, but maybe

looking at live pictures of affiliate wsb from the chopper 2 vantage point here. this is mcnair discovery learning academy. this is where just about an hour ago, report of a gunman on that campus at that elementary school. the good news is we're hearing from several officials now who are saying that the students are safe, that no one is injured, and that that gunman is in custody. but still a lot to be worked out, sorted out. you can only imagine what the parents might be feeling, what they are going through as they try to get ahold of their kids after such an incident. i want to listen in. >> on the phone so that we can get the very latest information from him about not only what happened inside the school about an hour ago, but also what is going to be happening coming in the very near future with parents reuniting with their children. again, mcnair elementary school. you can see parents pick up

their children on the walmart at i-20. they'll be bussing them. it's a mile south of the school. they'll get them in buses, drive them down there so parents can pick them up. still quite a few students back in the back area there that will have to load a bus and get down that way. again, try to find out what happened in there and also learn what's going to happen going forward with the dekalb county school pio, public information officer. just to recap, if you are just joining us, this is on second avenue in dekalb county. what you're looking at is a live picture from news chopper 2. students, teachers in the back of a school after a gunman was reported in the school. the call came in and police here to channel 2 from an office worker who was in the front office. the great news is, no students hurt. no teachers hurt. they all got out safely. they were evacuated very safely

out of the building but that worker in the front office was talking to one of our assignment editors on the desk. she called here and our assignment editor said she heard several gunshots. it was a very emotional moment for her as she waited minutes for that office worker to come back on the phone. she didn't know whether the office worker was safe or not but she did come back and she was okay. >> and that, again, she said to our person, police got him. police got him. want to go now to aaron diamond. sending us some video through face time, actually, from the grou ground. we can't talk to aaron but you see a lot of police activity as he shows us what is happening there. those look like s.w.a.t. officers in full gear. i'm trying to think what street this was. this was near mcnair avenue.

>> we have a report -- we don't have it right now. we'll have ryan young in a few moments. >> that's fine. we are looking there as all of the police officers, i presume, are walking away from mcnair elementary school as this thing seems to be more and more under control if not already under control. as we swing around, let's see what he's looking at. back to their cars. a couple of people there on the corner of the street watching to see what was happening. aaron diamond told us 15 minutes ak there were a lot of parents congregating in this area. he spoke to some of them who were still very much on edge even after learning nobody was hurt and that one suspect was in custody. they said to aaron, boy, we won't feel good about all of this until we have hugged our children. the good news is as you can see on the bottom of your screen, parents can go to the i-20 in gresham about a mile from here where you're looking now and
