following the violent confrontation between a group of motorcyclists and a drive of an suv in new york city. police, they're still investigating. a video posted online, though, has been viewed more than 1 million times on youtube. the story now from cnn's randi kaye. >> reporter: you are watching video from a motorcycle helmet cam untodaying in realtime. it was posted on youtube. what you're about to see will change lives forever. the drive of suv, out for a drive with his wife and 2-year-old daughter, bumps the rear of a motorcycle in front of him there. see it there? in response, dozens motorcyclist surround the range rover departmenting it. police say the motorcyclists may all be members of a group known as the hollywood stunts. watch as the suv's driver

barrels through the mob, hitting three more motorcycle riders. now, watch it again. police say the driver feared for his life. the conflict now escalates. the motorcycles chase the suv. when they catch up to it, one biker opens the door of the suv. but the driver quickly floors it. this time, he gets away. eventually, he's forced off the west side highway and on to the streets of manhattan. stuck in traffic, the range rover has nowhere to go. and the mother cyclists know it. first, one rips off his helmet and uses it to bash in the driver's window. two quickly join him all in rage. just before they pull the driver out car the videotape ends. >> he's taken out of the car, he is assaulted. he received some stitches at columbia presbyterian hospital. >> reporter: police say the

driver's face was slashed but his wife and young daughter were not injured. the driver was treated and released but not this man seen here in this facebook photo. his name is edwin mees and his family said the suv drive hit him on his motorcycle. he's from northern massachusetts, diane is his wife. >> my husband got off his bike to help the guy. whatever he did, he got scared, he went peeled off and he paralyzed my husband on the way. >> reporter: mees is in the music business. they set up this facebook page for him. the couple have two children, ages 15 and 9. his mother. >> i'm devastated all his ribs fractured. he's still on the ventilator. >> reporter: the suv driver hasn't been charged with

anything but police have charged 28-year-old christopher cruz with reckless endangerment, reckless menacing and endangering the welfare of achild police believe he was struck and then assaulted by two other bikers. police are looking at video footage to try to determine if any other charges will be filed in this case. randi kaye, cnn, new york. 17 minutes past the hour. the airport in jacksonville florida resuming normal operations. the airport was evacuated for reports of suspicious packages. authorities say one device was found and rendered safe. it caused nerve-racking moments for those inside. >> that's where a lot of people started ducking behind -- workers started ducking behind where the luggage goes and people were running out of the airport. >> some say planes had to be

bringing good news. >> some of it's good news. it's fun news. >> we're talking government shutdown lately, right? the government shutdown was also the first day of the new obama care insurance exchanges. so there was a lot of interest in the state and federally run marketplaces. here's the thing, there were also glitches, delays and also crashes. this is coming from "usa today" some of the technical problems were because of high traffic. lots of people trying to get on that site. the director of centers for medicaid and medicare said almost 3 million people visited government.gov, that site, the first day. also people trying to get mortgages. problems could arise with vendors trying to get in there trying to get social security numbers and accessing irs transcripts. that's what they need to do to process loans. even though the faa says it will still accept loans, the agency

>> reporter: he's been in congress all of eight months. john boehner's been there 22 years but it's mark meadows a former sunday school and restaurant owner. it started with a letter meadows sent to bohner in late august urging the speaker the shutdown. he got 79 house republicans to sign huss letter and boehner had to listen. >> we were cold congressman meadows wasn't available to speak to us. he told cnn.com that his intent was never to shut down the government. but he also made clear in an interview with a local affiliate in his home district just who and what tops his priority list. >> reporter: meadows said stopping obama care is priority number one and the people in his district come first. >> i believe i'm representing the will of the people. the overwhelming majority say

have experienced some problems with the websites as they tried to look into and sign up with the programs. some of the producers checked out the system. in new york, they received a message that said the system was suffering from an internal server error. in maryland, the web page was not available. in new mexico, they had problems as well. and in washington, the whole thing just froze up and the state had to shut it down for trouble shooting. still, the team got through just fine in kentucky and oregon and other places. while the problems are widespread they do not appear to be universal. one person may find an issue in the staple state, maybe not. 36 states have opted out of obama care and haven't established their insurance marketplaces. and this is the message that many people received from the federal site. we have a lot of visitors on our site right now. we're working to make your experience better. please wait here until we send

to other airports. jury deliberations continue in the michael jackson wrongful death case. the length and outcome of the trial decidedly hinges on the first question of the verdict form. if jurors conclude that aeg live did not hire dr. conrad murray to oversee jackson the trial would end quickly. if jurors answered yes the 15 remaining questions will determine the amount of damages that would be awarded to the jackson family, an amount that could top $1 billion. should the british oil company bp have stopped the spill sooner? that is the question over the deadly 2010 oil spill in the gulf of mexico. a top bp executive took the stand tuesday saying early responses to the disaster grew out of fear. at issue, why they scrapped an early plan to cap that well. bp says they weren't ready. but plaintiffs say he should have been. the plan was brought back, and ultimately ended that spill. the civil trial could bring billions of dollars in

♪ welcome back to "early start," everyone. it is "money time" which means christine romans is here. >> i know it's green day but it's red arrows this morning. we've got futures down pretty sharp. watch for that here. the market's had a day to think about it, as far as futures are concerned, investors don't like the idea of a day two of a shutdown. a day of economic insecurity. watch stocks and 4 o 1 ks. the major markets closed higher yesterday. as i've been saying this is a treacherous time for stock investors. you're up 15%, 20% in your stocks so far this year. there's a lot of room for

washington to screw it up. i want to talk about apple. those investors had a very good day yesterday. you likely own the stock. a widely owned stock in your 401(k). the billionaire carl icahn tweeted that he had a good day with cook. that would put money in apple investor pockets. apple's stock immediately jumped 2.4%. apple shares up 22% since the end of june. that chart you that see right there is the chart that is the apple of investors' eyes after suffering the last couple years. time is running out in this drama in washington. the treasury secretary warned that he was running out of extraordinary measures to keep the government humming in a letter to congress yesterday, jack lew said there are no other legal or prudent options to extend the nation's borrowing authority. he's running out. if the debt is nod raised by

mid-october the u.s. will default on its debts. that's something that jack lew has said can be catastrophic. we always pay our bills on time. every time. the ten-year treasury sat 6.23%. that's what we watch for signs of stress about all of this. we're going to have a report that bond traders will be looking for as far as jobs report numbers, we think they're going to be looking at it. the forecast is $180,000 jobs created. and the unemployment rate is 7.3%. we're not sure if that's going to be released if the government is shutdown. you could see a situation that the white house said look we need a skeleton staff to get the report out. a lot of statisticians have been told to go home. a lot of economists have been told to go home. another sign how crazy it is. just something that we rely on as a sign post for what's happening in the economy. crazy. by the way, federal workers who

and 74-year-old man is charged with killing his ex-wife and two children. neighbors who knew them as a elderly couple are shocked. >> they were just good people. we've known them for 12 years now. they're the kind of neighbors you'd lean over the fence and talk about your chickens with. >> the couple raised two adult children regularly attending a small church in a small town. now they're answering allegations unpunished for more than 30 years. a bloody rampage tore through a park in new york sunday. a man wielding scissors stabbed two people and a 2-year-old. in a beautiful park on the west side, home to young parents and young kids. witnesses described the scene as utter chaos. >> people are like don't go there. don't go there. there's a man stabbing people. so we saw the cops move up.
