( laughter ) nicely done. nicely done, hillary. i'm not going to lie. i'm excited to read this book because all through the campaign, half of the timism

wondering, i wonder what's going through hillary's mind now. it doesn't happen with trump. it's, like, could you stop telling us what's going through your mind now? trump is not saving anything for the book. he'll be the first president whose memoirs will be like a pop-up book, ahhh! why sit grabbing me?! ahhh! ( laughter ) that debate hillary is talking about is really uncomfortable. we get to hear it from hillary herself because there is also an audio book. >> well, what would you do? do you stay calm, keep smiling and carry on as if he weren't repeatedly invading your space, or do you turn, look him in the eye and say loudly and clearly, back up you creep, get away from me? >> trevor: that's a good question. what can you do to stop trump. no one knows. squirt ink at him like a squid? shake your keys overhim to distract him. pee your pants?

he might like that, i don't know. ( laughter ) you don't know what to do. you know what does suck for hillary, though, is she's got a great story to tell, but you have to admit she's not a great performer. like, do you hear the audio book? it sounded like someone said, hey, alexei, read me a story. but nothing too interesting, i'm trying to fall asleep. it's like, i bet when hillary asks siri for directions, siri is, like, "are you mocking me? also, here are directions to wisconsin ." at the end of the day, i guess that's always been hillary's gift and her curse, right? great mind, not a great performer. to understand the power of performance, you just have to look at the man who enabled her to write that book, donald trump. all right, hillary clinton's polar opposite, or bipolar opposite. ( laughter ) because every day this week, we have seen a wildly different donald address the nation, right? on monday, we had teleprompter

trump, gave a somber speech on afghanistan. tuesday, free style trump at a rally. then wednesday, sincere trump called for national unity. three days, three trumps. i mean, hillary may have only one set bug trump is like a japanese toilet, too many settings to figure out. so many settings. you wind up crying and pooping in the corner -- i don't know how it works! i don't know! ( laughter ) it's confusing, and clearly the media is having a hard time keeping up. >> i have whiplash. it's, like, which president is going to show up today? >> the unleashed president we saw tuesday? or the teleprompter president we saw tonight? >> it really has been like a tale of two trumps. president seems to be confused. >> we just don't know which president trump will show up at any particular moment. >> why does he keep going back and forth, though? >> trump's whiplash, three personas in three speeches but the same president. >> trevor: yeah. (bleep) insane. ( laughter ) serious trump, somber trump,

free style trump. personally, i'm waiting for the first appearance of reggae trump. that's what i'm waiting for. that will be exciting. one build a wall and mexico will pay for it, blacks blah -- blah, bigly, bigly! ( applause ) that's what i'm waiting for. although people would like to believe -- would like to believe donald trump switches every day because he's not in control. i think it's the opposite. this is not a bug of donald trump. it's a feature. he's in full control of which persona shows up. he told us about it this morning. he tweeted, "the fake news is now complaining about my different types of back-to-back speeches. there was afghanistan -- somber -- the big rally -- enthusiastic, dynamic and fun -- and the american legion --

respectful and strong. ( laughter ) is it just me or is it trump's modeling his personalities? afghan trump, somber, rally trump, enthusiastic, dynamic and fun. american legion trump, respectful and strong! ( laughter ) ( cheers and applause ) and now, look, don't get me wrong. all politicians adjust their performance for different crowds. obama speaks differently in a black or a white crowd. bush spoke differently to farmers and bankers. ted cruz speaks differently to people than the pile of human heads in his basement he says are his friends. ( laughter ) it always happens. but trump is different. when he talks to different audiences even within a few days, he doesn't tweak his style, he changes his message. >> we cannot remain a force for peace in the world. we are not at peace with each other. >> the only people giving a

platform to these hate groups is the media itself and the fake news. "the washington post" is terrible. the democrats have no ideas. barack obama never said it took place because of radical islamic terrorism. he never said that. >> we are people. we are people who love. we are people with heart. we are people who adore. we are people that are great. >> trevor: wow. ( laughter ) wow. those messages change like the bible. on one page, it's a message of peace and love. the next page, burn it all to the ground! revelations! ( laughter ) here's the thing -- here's the thing -- trump swings are only surprising if you expect trump to actually be president. but donald trump isn't a

president. he's just playing one on tv. and don't get me wrong, this is not my theory. it's what he tweeted this morning and it's what he said he'd do during the campaign. >> when i'm in a room talking, i'm one way. when i'm out here talking to you people, i got to be different. is easy. you know what presidential is? i walk on. ( laughter ) ( cheers and applause ) ladies and gentlemen -- of wat waterbury. ( laughter ) it is a great honor to be with you this morning -- ( laughter ) >> trevor: see? listen to that audience. they loved it then and they love it now because trump is simply exploiting something we've all known about politics, half of it is performance. but what donald trump either doesn't get or doesn't care about is that the other half is governance, right? when most politicians perform, it's a means to an end, you get the crowd on your side so you

can govern. trump only wants to govern so he can have the crowd on his side and not believing anything really frees trump up to act differently depending on the situation. it's acting. like denzel washington. he can be a lawyer, pilot, football coach. trump can be a statesman, demagogue or stand-up comedian. he can choose. ( laughter ) i know it's confusing because trump is playing all these characters at the same time in the same presidency which would be like denzel playing all his roles in the same movie. flying drugs in an upside down plane while coaching players shouting out "king kong ain't got (bleep) on these fences! ha ha ha!" it would be weird. but, look, don't think of donald trump as america's worst president. think of him as academy award winner for best actor in a presidency. that's all it is. we'll be right back. it could be me in here. >> trevor: please welcome actor and producer nnamdi asomugha and the subjects of the film colin warner, everybody. ( cheers and applause ) welcome to the show. thank you so much for being here. there is no other way to describe the story and the film as both heartbreaking and triumphant at the same time. namedy, let's start with you. this is a story of a man who's sitting next to you right now who was wrongfully imprisoned 21 years for a crime he didn't commit. you play his best friend in the movie, in real life his best friend who helped get him out. start with the process and the idea. how did you get into this? and more importantly, what connected with you in the story? >> yeah, it was -- we were lucky enough to have a visionary director in matt ruskin and he put together a five-minute

documentary of colin and carl and passed it around, made its way to me, i asked for a script, auditioned and got the part. >> trevor: right. >> but i had a different connection to colin. between the aches of 13 and 16, i was arrested twice, both times for things i didn't do. so i spent the day in a holding cell, which is nothing compared to what colin went through but it stays with you when it happens. so i basically thought, you know, if i can be a part of this story, i can lend my voice to not only his issue but what i went through as well. >> trevor: now, colin, on your side, can you take us through even a microcosm of what you were feeling as you were experiencing this, being arrested at 18, i believe, and then having to spend most of your adult life in prison for something you didn't do? >> well, greetings, everybody. greetings! >> audience: greetings! >> i'm glad to be here. this is incredible to me, as the

tid napping and the crime i didn't commit, both sides of the world. i'm glad i'm here now. it was a struggle. it was painful. almost destroyed me. but with friends and family, i was able to survive and hopefully, with this movie, i could touch someone in their lives. no one in america should have to go through what i went through, despite my skin color, despite my religious beliefs.

in that context, i believe that we all have the power within us to change a lot of things in our lives that we do not like. go see the movie and hopefully we can make some change and save some people's lives. >> trevor: wow. ( applause ) >> trevor: now that you're out, your story is being told in the movie. >> right. >> trevor: now that you're out, you have a different life to live. what is the one thing you wish you could impart on other people? what is the one thing you wish other people could get from the film that either may be in this situation or may know someone who's in this situation? >> all i can say is love

somebody. we need to love each other. that's the only way change going to happen. that's the only way we'll see some progress. what kyle king did for me, to me is still unbelievable. so i thank god every day for mr. carl king, and a lot of you may think that you may not have that friend, but believe me, you do. we just have to recognize that person, give them the respect and honor that is due to them, right, and hopefully, when your tail is in a jam, somebody will come to your defense. right, because we cannot keep asking and not give. it's not going to work out. so, mr. carl king, that's my number one hero. that's the first human being i can say i'm impressed with. >> trevor: wow.

( applause ) >> trevor: nnamdi, before i let you both go, this is a story that many people will see as exceptional. they'll go, this is an amazing film, an amazing story. it is exceptional. but you don't really see it in the same way. you go, it's exceptional, but, at the same time, it's happening all too often. why do you say that? >> because it is. i mean, this was a story that could have been told 50 years ago, could have been told ten years ago and it probably could have been told ten years from now. you know, hopefully the numbers are different but it just continues to go on, and in the film, we kind of connect the dots through administrations and the different things that were going on in government, and it's really something that needs to change. >> trevor: i hope everyone watches the movie. the story is amazing. you are amazing.
