will break out of this, the entire team has been sluggish, except luke scott. >> jim: melvin has gone now 19 consecutive games without an rbi. there are his numbers this season versus a year ago. he had 10 home runs at the same point last year. and outside. but the other number that is really beginning to grow, buck, is 24 games without home runs, and that's 94 at-bats without it. that was when they played minnesota. and a new bat. >> buck: there is that inside fastball that mazzaro throws so effectively. and as we talked about cahill yesterday. he had a sinking fastball that went straight down. mazzaro's fastball runs in on right-handers with a lot of

late movement, moving along the plain of the bat, but it will jam you. >> jim: hard hit ball towards short and there is orlando cabrera. one away. oscar salazar called up to sake the spot of izturis who underwent an appendectomy. he was hitting well for triple- a norfolk. did get into 34 games with the orioles last year. >> buck: he did a pretty good job filling in. and throwing a little bit at third base and a little bit at first base and had some production at bat. off to a great start in triple- a. 10 home runs and 4 rbis in those few games. >> jim: and a strike. 1-2 the count.

wigginton out there in shallow rightfield and cust has always been a notorious all or nothing type of guy. he has patience. he'll take his loss but he'll also strike out a lot, but with that you get some pop. >> jim: 0-2. and that's outside. 1-2 on jack cust. who is a former first round draft pick. sliders in the dirt. the draft comes up on tuesday. jack cust, in 1997 out of high school was taken in the first round by the arizona diamondbacks. and he went to high school in summerville, new jersey and was

today's leaderboard presented by fire stone, a tradition of innovation. and the american league batting leaders with adam jones coming up, who began the day 5th in the league in batting at .343. >> buck: cabrero, ichiro, youkilis and then adam jones 5th. and they'll spruce that up with the first at bat, leading off in the leadoff spot. >> jim: it's kind of amazing when you look at the stretch the orioles are in. and there is another base hit for adam jones. he's on for a two-out single. so adam now with 25 multi hit games on the year and that leads the club. but the way this team can hit, when they are all healthy and in there with the regular lineup, it's kind of amazing with so many of the hitters at the same time in the rbi lineup.

detroit tigers with verlander and edwin jackson finishing up the home stand. so they've run into some hot pitching staffs. >> jim: camden fouled it off. the orioles on this trip in the five games have scored only ten runs and four of those came in the loss last night. >> buck: you just can't compete in the american league when you score that few runs. i don't care who you are, you have to score more runs than that, i don't care who you're pitching against. it's just difficult to keep the american league teams down under 4 runs. >> jim: reimold homered last night. he now has 6. the count is even, 2-2 with jones. and he's down on strikes. mazzaro got it by him for a second strikeout and the
