one hit over four and a third. seven ground ball outs for brian bass as he kept this game in perspective and giving them a chance to stay in the ballgame. rich hill started with three earned runs on one hit in the ballgame. he four walks and no strikeouts. vin mazzaro has been outstanding. four hits over 7 innings, hasn't walked a batter and struck out three. brian bass and now matt albers have kept this game within striking distance. albers had a one, two, three sixth inning, trying to replicate that here in the 7th. matt albers on for his second inning of work. he'll go to work on rajai davis, the number eight batter and then petit and then back to the top of the lineup for orlando cabrera.

ball we're seeing from matt alberts. he's unusual in that he throws a sinking fastball and a curveball. most of the times you see a combination of a sinking fastball and a slider. but he has good depth on the  curveball and it presents problems, especially when he's pounding that sinker inside >> jim: and he got him. and cabrera swings on it. and cabrera swings on it. back to back k's. beautiful day on san francisco bay and the athletics have the lead. if you're at a party. or, playing golf. like those guys. or, in a bar.
