he's lazy, i mean he's dragging the pitching arm behind him, falling forward. that doesn't give him time to catch up. you have to be on top when the front foot hits the ground. >> bob: you hate to see a walk to the leadoff man after being given a 4-0 lead. >> rob: that's in the dirt. 3-0. you'll see him fall forward first. he walks towards the catcher. you've got to get the arm up on top quick. much better. little high. 2:48 pm
with good base running, rays move up both runners. dukes is going to catch the ball. he's going to look up and look for his cut off man. his cut off man is over by short stop instead of behind 2nd. you can't blame elijah. he was throwing to his cut off man who wasn't in the right position. >> bob: here's kapler who walked the first time. he's had a change up for ball one. line drive, base hit. [cheering and applause] adam dunn does.
2:49 pm
the walks come back to hurt. nationals haven't gotten gabe kapler out yet in this series. >> rob: let's go back to the cutoff throw. the short stop has got to get behind 2nd base. he's standing on the dirt. he's got to be way out here somewhere. he can cut it off and throw to 2 2nd. he's standing at short stop. gonzalez has to get out into the out field to get the center fielder when he goes deep on that fly ball. >> bob: navarro the catcher. 5, 4, 3 double play first time.
2:50 pm
to get them out of the double play, he drops. the ball was dropped by bard. there were several things going on. kapler started off first as stealing and anticipating a possible throw. then zobrist came down the 3rd baseline. nobody advanced. >> rob: i think kapler was trying to get a throw to 2nd for a possible score. >> bob: there's a squeeze bunt for a run. nick johnson to hernandez. two men who walked in this inning score. it's now a 4-2 game. >> rob: hernandez gets a star on this play. detwiler won't be able to make it there in time. he gets the out. run comes in.
2:51 pm
gets the out right here. andersen hernandez comes to help out. >> bob: it's not like his foot was on top of the base. runner at 2nd, two outs. when you're young, you're not going to get close calls this inning. >> bob: i wonder what umpires would think of that statement because i would imagine that they would say we give strikes when they're strikes in -- strikes no matter who is out there. i don't think they'd ever admit it. >> rob: it's a respect thing. >> bob: that was a hang breaking ball he grabs. detwiler is lucky to get that

2:58 pm
pitch. nobody out. and zimmermann rock this is one to center. ball slicing away from b.j. upton. upton didn't run the greatest route to that ball. his speed enabled him to catch up. >> rob: i don't think he thought the ball was hit as hard as it was. it started to tail away from him. >> bob: because of of nick johnson's good base running play, he's at 3rd and still could be at 1st. >> rob: he turned the wrong way. he lost it and had to recover, turn the other way. that great speed enabled him to do that. heck of an athlete. >> bob: johnson at 3rd. nats have a chance to get one
