baseman together -- first basemen together other than delgado, they're 22-137 with one home run. so, it's been a real tough time at first offensively. >> jim: well, new citi field is a difficult park to pitch in and hit in -- actually, it's a good pitching park. that's a lot to do with it. this kid they bring up last year. he goes 10-20 first. he gets 30 hits in his first 81 at-bats. delgado is their home run guy last year with 39 home runs. >> gary: yep. >> jim: he's actually off to a real good start before the hip problem. they hoped to get him back by late july. >> gary: that ball will be popped up to shallow leftcenter. reimold, and he's got it. murphy retired. the issue of delgado getting back at the end of july is an iffy proposition at best. one down here until the third inning -- here in the third inning. brian schneider will be coming to the plate. schneider getting a chance to

start tonight as the catcher for the mets. you see the numbers that he's put up on the season so far. he's done pretty well in the starts he's had behind the plate. it will be his 13th start of the season. santos, castro, schneider all worked behind the plate for the mets. breaking ball is up high. 2-0. >> jim: i was talk to go brian. he said santos has been so good. he's hitting 12-16. he really hasn't played that much. he's thrown home runs in there. we saw last year when he was called up by the orioles. brian is a guy i said are you pla took? he said, no, again taken my job. he had the back problems and pulled a calf muscle trying to rehab. there's a strike. >> gary: the injury list is long and important. delgado with a hip problem. john maine a starter right

shoulder problem. j.j. putz, former closer. jose reyes with a right calf. wagner woorks left elbow surgery. a lot of people jerry manuel and mets thought would be available for them are not and are out for extended periods of time. so, the leadoff -- the one- outwalk is the first surrender by guthrie. that will put schneider on. what we were talking about earlier, schneider is one of those batters you've got to get. >> jim: yeah, it really sets up this inning for the mets. castillo not a power hitter, but he's a high average guy and it opens up first base, the hole into right field. it's going to turn -- at least you're going to get to the top of the order more quickly. i you think the guy offensively other than delgado they miss is jose reyes. when you start looking how dynamic an offensive player he is as far as with the triples and stolen bases and the average and not to forget that he's a high quality shortstop. >> gary: he's the ignition on

the engine. 2-0 count to luis castillo. castillo batting ninth. switch hitter. runner at first base. shows bunt again. he's taking all the way. it's in there for a strike. on the season for castillo, right-handed .323, left-handed, .254. extra-base hit wise, a couple triples and six doubles. castillo uses his speed to try and get on, move runners around. lead at first, schneider who is not fast. that pitch is in there for a strike to him. the count will go to 2-2. >> jim: that's why when you get a -- get a 2-0 fastball which he took, let's take a look at jeremy's delivery. a little bit smoother. a lot of times that head will get going left is when he leavesballs up. >> gary: two ball, two strike count. runner not going. the pitch is way up high. the count will go to 3-2. 3-2

reimold over. that is a foul ball and fortunate one for the o's. with two down, schneider is going and would have scored easily. cora the leadoff batter popped out his first time up cora with one triple and six doubles for extra-base hits on the season. cora getting the leadoff spot to work in this ballgame with reyes out of there. he has faced guthrie before. in fact, more than anyone else in the lineup. there are only a couple who have. cora has gone 2-12 in his career off jeremy guthrie. two down, runner at second base. here's the 0-1. in the air to center. jones. mr. bobblehead's got it. no runs, no hits, no errors and one left on base. guthrie fine start through three innings.

pelfrey the 25-year-old right- hander. reimold will take it on the outside corner for a strike. we're in the bottom half of the third inning. nolan at .287 on the season played straightaway. the slider will myth miss outside. 1-1. reimold hitting .300 here at camden yards. .278 on the road. 4-7 of his home runs have been hit here at home. 1-1 delivery. that slider. that's the thing he doesn't do as a young player, chase that slider that's just off the plate. >> jim: he's seen a lot of them. the book on him, to me he's a really good highball hitter, but a fastball hitter. that's the one thing when guys would come to the big leagues, i wantedded to know can he hit the fastball. the guys that can't, don't have much of a chance of being successful up here because they'll always be trying to cheat on the fastball which means they're very susceptible to breaking balls of all kinds. >> gary: 3-1 delivery fouled back hard by reimold. he got a good cut on that one.

got a very good sinker. 29 double plays. that's the all-time met record. the guy the record he both broke was .29 walt theriot. i guess the pitching instructor how did he get from being on the tigers in '84 to play with the -- playing with the mets. he was traded for walt. he's the hitting instructor. he had a couple of 30-30 years. >> gary: andino who has played exceedingly well at short both in the field and at the plate. hitting .257. anything from .267 from andino at short will be anything more than cenl acceptable. pelfrey, the proof of the sinker not only the ground balls but the no fly balls -- no fly balls. he's only allowed 24 home runs since 2006. it is the fewest in the majors

you've got beltran and wright coming up. >> gary: did he and he fouls it back. this will be the fifth 3-2 count of the ballgame for jeremy guthrie. >> jim: again, he's going to get another pitch to hit. exactly what we talked about earlier as you look at your lineup. you have the fifth best average guy coming up next with the leading hitter in the national league behind him and he walked him. >> gary: as it leadoff walk. the second one, second walk surrender in the ballgame. martinez on with it. this lineup, you've got cora left-handed, beltran is a switch hitter, schneider is left-handed. castillo is a switch hitter. actually, it's the right- handers who have done more damage against guthrie hitting at .309. left-handers .259. we talked about how pelfrey has not given up home runs. it's exactly the opposite for jeremy, of course, as he is right now on top of the national league having surrender 16 home runs on the season. >> jim: yeah, guthrie has given up eight home runs to righties.

always seems pretty easy with brian, but that last little hop. it comes up. again, just comes into the heel of the glove. then it's too late. beltran running hard down the first-base line. boy, that did look like a tailor made 4-6-3. one pitch out you're out of a jam. >> gary: instead, you have to face david wright. the game's best average with runners at first and second and nobody out. he'll take the pitch down low. wright is hitting .347 with runners in scoring position this season in another one of the gawdy numbers that he is putting up. the mets have a shot at it here. there are still no hits on the board. this is a walk and an error inning. wright after that slider away fouls it off. 1-1. since june 4, he's been right there at the top of the pile average on base, number one.

not back up the play. if you're back up home plate. he's back there, but he doesn't anticipate. if the ball gets by, there you go. you get an error on reimold that you talked about. the only good news is that wright doesn't get to second base so the double play still in order. a chance to maybe stay out of a big inning. >> gary: wright picks up his 37th rbi and that is the first hit of the ballgame. wright getting a single. beltran goes to third on the error on reimold's throw. two errors in the inning for the orioles. ryan church. the throw over to get wright back and wright is a base stealer. he has 17 stolen bases. he has been caught eight times this year. he is set to go. second in the national league in stolen bases. >> jim: mets lead in steals --
