9:08 pm
different, because we told you, citi field is not like yankee stadium. good place to pitch. >> gary: the runner at first, remains there, two down. we have one, two, three, four, five, six, seven put-outs. i think for beltran so far in the ballgame. he's been busy. two down. bobby parnell delivers and it will be taken by brian roberts. brian looking for his first hit in the series. 0 for 3 tonight. if reimold is going to think about running, it's now. roberts gets the advantage while he's there of that hole between first and second. slider misses.

in four at-bats. >> jim: you talked about his last appearance against atlanta. came in throwing 97. he had five days off. got himself in trouble trying oh get people out with the change-up and the curveball. he did not do a good job that night of receipt reeding the bats of the atlanta hitters. he's got a good curveball. his sinker is his best pitch. >> gary: now faces wright. wright has gone 0 for 3 in the ballgame, 2 for 8 in the series. he still has the 11-game hit streak. with 31 rbi's in his last 43 ballgames. he's tied for 7th in the league with doubles with 19 of those. he's put up great numbers on the road, as well. that's the pitch that they have been able to get him with. >> jim: koji uehara doesn't
9:14 pm
throw as hard. that's 96 diving. jim johnson lengthened his stride last year. the ball will start at the middle of the plate. >> gary: fouled off. wright is having to make an adjustment seeing a lot of pitches that are in and up on him that he can't get up to. talk to keith hernandez about it, that's what the book is becoming on wright, at least for the moment. see where johnson goes. back inside but missed with it. and a two-ball, two-strike count. >> jim: at 98. jim johnson, most tall pitchers, he's about 6'5", they shorten their stride. last year he lengthened it. but it's difficult to pitch in. the one thing about koji uehara, we know about the splitter in our scouting report, but he commanded his fastball very well tonight.
9:15 pm
jimmy johnson relying more on the sink. >> gary: he went around on it. an unhappy david wright heads off. good job by jim johnson. wright retired and there are two down in the inning. the orioles have announced a series of baseball camps designed for boys and girls 7 to 16. the instructional program, player appearances, current player, former oral yole. -- form oriole. click on fan forum to register. reimold there. church retired. good job by johnson who gets it done in a hurry. - oh, it's on. - it's on. - it's on. - ( music playing throughout ) - it's on. - oh, it's on, all right. - it's on. - totally on. jimmy, it's on.

minor leagues. brian matusz made his first start for bowie to and was it an impressive one. he pitched six innings, gave up just three hits, no earned runs and struck out 10. he is in a position to get his first win. also want to mention, troy patten was promoted to triple-a norfolk, he did get the loss, six innings pitched. gave up five earned runs. >> jim: how about our number one draft choice from last year, brian matusz. >> gary: heading north. yes, he is. >> jim: then troy patten, along with the seven hits, i get three home runs. he still pitched into the sixth inning. mr. bobblehead in a tie game. >> gary: he's due here on his

night. he will work against parnell who delivers that fastball. this is one of those man know y man know situations. leading off here, bottom half of the 7th inning. a walk, a run scored, a ground ball and a fly ball out. the pitch is taken outside for a ball. >> jim: when you're a young pitcher and you miss with a breaking ball, you know adam's sitting on a fastball. you trust your stuff or you come back with another slider. that's going to be about 98. so johnson throwing 98. >> gary: that's something adam jones can drive. >> jim: it's got to be out over the plate a little more. >> gary: gets the arms extended. >> jim: you're hitting off
9:19 pm
bobby parnell's fastball anyway because it's that good. >> gary: and that will be fouled away. big averages against parnell, left-handers .359 and right- handers .2906789 so the batting average against him has been pretty high both ways. >> jim: a lot of injuries on this club. so he probably rushed a little bit to the big leagues. it's more about velocity and probably at this jngt tour in his career, more of a thrower than a pitcher. >> gary: got him on the inside corner. no argument there. and our freeze cam brought to you by frost brewed coors light, the world's most refreshing beer. >> jim: there's your first at- bat. a crisp single on a change-up to right field. then this time a fastball. then the third time, and you could see the bat had each of

them tonight out in front. >> gary: we're going to get a pitching change. that will be it for parnell in the seventh inning.
9:21 pm
9:22 pm
>> gary: left-hander against left-hander. pedro feliciano. >> jim: same match-up as last night. and where is jose when we need him. probably singing where. nick markakis. >> jim: back-to-back strikeouts for feliciano against markakis and huff last night. >> gary: three for three ballgame tonight and a run scored for nick. huff has an rbi. melvin mora picked up an rbi. matt wieters two rbi's with the homer. feliciano's pitch is outside for a ball. the count will go to 2-0. >> jim: let's see if nick gets a fastball on a fastball count. last night feliciano was ahead of both markakis and huff, and they saw the big sweeping
9:23 pm
breaking ball that he has. >> gary: .234 off the lefties. he's taking and it is in there for a strike. he was going it make him throw a strike. john green, whom we've seen in game one, in the bullpen. aubrey huff waiting on deck. tie game in the seventh. feliciano, the 2-1 delivery. that rides inside. markakis forces him into a 3-1 count. feliciano's only allowed four first batters out of 35 to reach base against him, coming out of the bullpen this year. markakis will take a time-out here.
9:24 pm
classic match-up here late in the ballgame. and it will go full. >> jim: he starts way on the first base side of the pitching rubber. he steps at you. the big sweeping breaking ball, we haven't seen it yet. last year led the major leagues with 89 appearances. he was a work horse. >> gary: a chopper, they were playing that way. cora can't get it, base hit. quality at-bat and nick markakis has a four-hit ballgame. four singles tonight. >> jim: i was talking to alex, i said you really came and got that ball last night very quickly. he said because the infield is very hard here. all of a sudden balls caroming through. a little topspin. cora's trying to catch it.
9:25 pm
maybe gets off the glove a little bit to slow it down. >> gary: that's his second four hit ballgame of the year. the mets have the potential go- ahead run on with their eighth hit of the night. huff has an rbi, 42 on the year. almost got away. >> jim: look where schneider is and look where the ball goes. nick markakis already, and he's got a big lead already with the steal tonight. i don't know what kind of move feliciano harks but he's very quick to the plate. that's a huge lead. >> gary: one down here in the 7th inning. >> jim: you want to deliver the ball to home plate in under 1.3
9:26 pm
seconds. about as quick as you can get. >> gary: orioles trying to get to a number that they haven't reached in a while. that's that four run number. they have had only, they've had more than four runs, only twice in the last 25 games. they've got four in this one. and they've got to get more if they're going to win it. that is inside. feliciano takes the count to 2- 2. feliciano clearly likes to work hitters. trying to get nick markakis to chase a couple of pitches away on aubrey huff. he's come in with that fastball inside on him, trying to catch the inside corner and quick to the plate. huff takes that one to right field, on his way back, good- bye home run, aubrey huff! a two-run shot and the orioles are back on top 6-4.
9:27 pm
>> jim: we talked about adjustments. last night he struck out. this time he gets a hanging breaking ball. third home run against left- handed pitching. ryan church took a couple of steps and watched it sail onto the courtyard here. >> gary: so aubrey huff gets out of the home run drought. he gets one here and the orioles are back on top. melvin mora for a strike. so feliciano who was brought in to get the left-handers out gives up a single to markakis and a two run homer to aubrey huff.
9:28 pm
melvin mora, a single in three times to the plate. a chopper towards the middle and another base hit. so a two-hit night for more ra. and the orioles keep it going against feliciano here in the 7th inning with only one down. and more action, brian stokes up in the bullpen. >> jim: the irony is feliciano has given up four home runs, three to lefties, even though the numbers have been that low. it's really about making quality pitches. you know, the markakis ball, to nick's credit, he hung in there with two strikes. then he hung a slider, then melvin mora found a hole.
9:29 pm
again, that's -- i don't think the first what, 101 games is only a microcosm of the way huff and markakis can hit, because they really hang in against them. power numbers go down from just about every lefty. but they are tough outs for left-handed pitchers. even to specialists like feliciano. >> gary: luke scott stands in 0- 3 in the ballgame. runner at first base, one out. that one to the hole the other way. great stop cora and gets the out at second base on a beautiful pick by luis castillo. >> jim: the amazing thing about major league shortstops, is that you know they don't practice these plays. again, he's kind of going over towards third. he's got to jump back. that's a backhand over your shoulder toss. castillo has won three gold gloves. they ought to give one right there for
