double. david murphy last year withe rangers comes up big for the mets. >> that forces him pie pinch upping with the tieing run as they have the infield in, and you have a against k-the robbe owens -- and aubrey huff agait k-rod. reimold will pinch hit andrewa walk. and orioles go home winners wh the final of 5-4. orioles after dropping the first game in the series come back d win back to back games 5-4 the final. albers, a perfect 9th inning, no runs allowed. and rodriguez gets the loss. he's 1-2, andino, the third career home run, and orioles first win after trailing at the 8th. we will head back to the masn broadcast booth, and welcome n jim palmer. this is such an uplifting win. who knows how far the orioles can take it, but not to give up for all 27 outs.

>> you know, to me, i think for this team to make that major step forward, if we look at jason berken, here's a guy they scored what, five runs in 9 first four starts. pitched very well against the tigers, went a third of the inning against oakland, but tonight he was good. the base hit, this is all it takes, and orioles win. again. you -- you get in a positn to win if you are a starting pitcher. they come back, very difficult to do that against rodriguez, and he wasn't on the top of his game, but it started with matt wieters, and the catching instructor -- pitching instructor. -- [ indiscernible ] >> let's look back at jason berken's effort for five

innings. he was outstanding. he has a career high of 7 strikeouts in the game, and hs cruising along on one hit, and then, that 6th inning rolls along, what happens to a pitcr at that point? >> you know as well as i do, d i hang on every word when you're doing the pregame. what did you say? he had to commit the ball dow. if you go back and look at the 6th inning, about everything got up. the hanging curveball was up. the curveballs are always done, he he's inside, there's a pith to sheffield. questionable to castillo, and then ball is up in the strike zone. murphy hits it. cora hits it. but again, he kept the club in the ballgame. he needed this performance, te 8 strikeouts, the 4 earned ru, it could have been better than that, and you have to remember he had 252/3 innings -- 25 2/3

innings in aaa. it's hard to come up, learn te hitters, learn what you got to do in the big league and have success. so if you gets a chance, whi liked about everything tonigh, he gave up the two runs, they left him out there to pitch in the 7th inning. and that's how you're going to develop young pitchers in baltimore. he has enough guts to pitche 7th. even though he gave up two runs. >> i want to ask you about the reimold pinch hit at-bat. very interesting strategy after the double by matt wieters to lead off. reimold draws another walk. what. [ indiscernible ] he has a tremendous batting -- he's going to swing and miss. it adopt look like he chases - it doesn't look like he chases bad pitches. >> the more success you have, we've seen it with adam jones,

the more they work on you. but i was talking with the batting contain. maybe there's some characteristics that maybe you could say -- but for a big young guy, and you know, i asked lat night, did he always, was he always this disciplined? did he always have this camne? and crowley said yes, the swing is getting better, he can hit the ball to right field. he can hit it out of any partf the ballpark. he will be a terrific hitter. it won't be automatic, so reimold, wieters, who led off that 912th -- who led off that 9th inning? andino got the chance to play, he takes a hanging slider. livan hernandez did not make a lot of mistake, but when he did, they got the home run. so a lot of bright spots. they come back. this is the way the orioles used to win ballgame.

bunt, gets a base hit. this is the patience that sets up the win for the orioles. reimold does the same thing. very close pitches, he take the pitches, they set the whole inning up for aubrey huff, but he does the job. just trying to get to the ball to the outfield. everybody goes home happy. >> reimold is not looking to walk. there's the tieing run at second, nobody is out. he set up the pinch hit. he is looking to get a base hit but what we learn is the patience for reimold. he has drawn a walk in 7 game. what are you showing? [ indiscernible ] >> he is taking the e going ot of the game, and that's what -- he is saking the ego out of te game. he could have been the guy to win the game and say if i geta fastball, i'm going to swing o matter. but he doesn't. he shows that patience. he makes rodriguez throw the

ball over the plate. it doesn't happen. very close pitch the last one. he goes down to first base, let's the guy behind him do te job. and jones comes up. jones does the same thing. that was a tough pitch to tak. i know jones because looking for a fastball. it was just below the knees, another good job of unselfish hitting, the kind of play that wins ball games. i love to see that. >> and here is rich kranitz who has two rookies in the rotati. berken was an unusual game, yu look at the line, and you thik he didn't pitch well, but one hit over the first five innings, he had the tough 6th inning, but he kept you in the game. and he has to learn from whate does. number one, give the team a chance to win. >> you're right. he threw a great game. that's not really the -- you have a lot of guys taking pitches. especially cora, you know.

and everything -- castillo was the same way. but he threw a great game, and the numbers don't reflect rely really how well he pitched. >> jim palmer makes a good point, first five innings of the became, he was outstanding, good sink on the ball, just like berken. i like the way he used the curveball, the slider, all of his pitches, until that 6th inning, and then everything comes up. how do you explain it that the ball, you just lose it like that? >> i think, it's the situatio, sometimes the young guy gets caught up in the situation, and all they need to do is step o, gather their thoughts, and just know, all they have to do is make pitches like they did early in the game. he was so good early and he was right there ready to do it. a couple of two-out hits.
