johnson in his haste couldn't get it to huff cleanly. >> buck: when jim johnson broke for the ball, he lost his footing. he kind of spun out on the mound. watch his foot. right here. you can see him lose a little bit of traction as he broke over there and then he has to hurry, the shovel toss. aubrey huff can't dig it out. bonifacio runs well. the ball gons down the right- field line. take a look at the speed of bonifacio. johnson is aware of that, but the throw was in the dirt and fortunately bonifacio never picked up on where the ball was. but now you have to keep him clots at first. >> jim: and the winning run is on with one down and the dangerous hanley ramirez who is 2-4, including a grand slam. the official scorer has still not yet posted the scoring on that play, but nonetheless,

is because he is right in his field of vision. gonzales is going cocome out leer and argue maybe more out of frustration than anything else. it didn't take long to get an answer. it looked like he was headed back and maybe that's what he told him sunk in. but brian roberts pitched a chance, but it is a well calculated risk as he gets bonifacio with the lead. the base runner right in his field of vision. he knows where he is, how much time he has. boy, it is close. >> buck: the umpire had a couple of bang-bang plays at second. one earlier in the game when andino didn't tag the bag on the force attempt and that one right there, bonifacio was clearly out. >> jim: brian, you could see clearly on that last angle, buck, he was concerned with simply getting that one out.

with his second hit of the night coming into the game as a pinch hitter back in the eighth inning and jeremy guthrie who pinch ran for matt wieters scores and dave trembley is still trying to figure out how many people are left in this game. >> darrin: there's only two on the other bench and he has none. he used him to pinch run and it worked out today. >> buck: it sure did. pinto comes out of the bullpen for the 27th time this season. and boy, oh, boy, you are one out away from a win, a save and the orioles say, huh-uh, we're not done just yet. >> jim: this has been an amazing trip. again, on saturday night, 25 outs, one out, nobody on and then the orioles then strike for three runs to get the lead. here tonight, two outs and nobody on, so the marlins got 26 outs and then the barrage.

five straight singles driving in three runs to tie the game. pinto falls behind on nick markakis, jones and huff will follow. and they have to bat. there's nobody left. this has been some game! markakis fouls it off. pinto got into 67 games last year. he has been used often to get a lefty out and that's it. markakis is hitless on the night. he does have an rbi on a sac fly. ball three. the orioles scored two in the eighth and three in the ninth to get even. the marlins, their big inning was in the seventh when they scored five runs. the 3-1 is inside. ball four. and a lead-off walk in the

10th. >> buck: we can't overstate it enough, when this team started winning games, but those five straight wins together, the hitters became more patient, more selective. the walk totaling increased. the hits started to come in bunches, and the patience has paid off big-time tonight and how about five straight hits with two outs in the ninth. gyp the orioles really have to be given a lot of credit for their perservance. they never believe the game is over. think have shown that time and again this year. all right, mr. manager wlarks do you do here? markakis on, jones at the plate? >> buck: you let him hitno question about it. >> jim: hit and run? bounce tore third. bonifacio, tough hop. he goes to second and back to first and there's the double

play. so just like that on one pitch that eliminates the lead-off walk and two men are down. and adam jones atough night. he is oh-fer five. >> buck: he has become a little pull conscious. he hits the ball sharply to the left field most of the night and uggla, again, turning a tough double play with fick markakis all over him and pinto picks up two outs on one pitch. >> jim: aubrey huff has another chance to extend his hitting streak. he has ---he has grounded out all four times tonight. he could in the agree with marty foster. >> are you sure about that? are you sure about that? >> buck: aubrey huff has had big hits in walk-off fashion recently, most recently thursday night against the mets agame winner. he is not going to have a walk- off on the road, but he has gotten some big hits.

the eighth inning and he got a base hit to right field. and then in the ninth inning with the chance to tie the game up. he delivers again. >> jim: the extra inning game for the orioles, and they're 3- 1. it is fouled back. aubrey got the pitch he wanted and fouled it back. pinto is out of venezuela. he is 26 years old. he has been with the marlins in the big leagues since the 2006 season. we're tied 6-6 in the 10th. the full count on huff with two men down. and it is inside. ball four. and another walk. so the orioles once again get the potential go-ahead run on. two walks in the inning, but pinto was helped out by the double play ball. >> buck: melvin mora, he got it going.

he delivered a big go-out base hit in his last at-bat. that was his first hit of the night and, boy, was it a big one. he kept hope alive. >> jim: i guess the fans are wondering might dave trembley go to bench for another one to pinch run, he can't because there is not another one to go into the game defensively. now the game that is in now, they have to go. that was the one to utilize, and he pinch ran for wieters and then he still had zaun available. >> buck: if you don't think things happen in a hurry in the dug-out. you can imagine ninth inning, two outs and all of a sudden you have to pull all of the right strings and he did. >> jim: fastball is high, 1-0. >> buck: but, of course tmanager has to be thinking a couple of innings ahead, and you can bet when he got into

interleague play, dave said at some point i might need a pinch runner and who is my best athlete to pinch run from the pitching staff? jeremy guthrie. >> jim: 2-0 on melvin mora. there's a bloop to right field. charging in on it is carroll and he makes the shoe string catch! he got there u just in time. so two walks in the inning don't hurt pinto as he got a double play and a fine running catch by carroll. the bottom of the 10th we go tied 6-6.

tonight. he had a one-run lead early on. he then got a big double play off after bonifacio a1-2-3 double play to strand base runners and he was matching pitch to pitch. and then the bullpen came on and the marlins broke it wide open, and the orioles responded and scored three in the bottom of the ninth to tie it. uehara was good. >> jim: here is brett carroll batting for the first time. bounced towards short. wigginton, a long throw and he got him. wigginton has looked so smooth at shortstop. he just doesn't look like a shortstop, but he makes the plays. >> buck: you know what? he takes a lot of pride in his ability the play all over the diamond, and because he can do that, he has given himself more opportunities to step in and play. no problem at all.

he's got a strong arm. he is comfortable all over the infield. he is probably most comfortable at second base. >> jim: one dunn and here is dan uggla who has had a big night. he was trying to end it there and he swings through the fastball. >> buck: a little tardy. 96 upstairs. tough to catch up on, but he is always a threat, obviously, with the solo home run, 14th on a low splitter off of uehara. that came in the five-run fifth inning and that got it started. >> jim: the fastball backs him away. 1-1 the count on dan uggla. 29 years old now. he was a rule five draft pick from arizona for the 2006 season. the marlins' scouting department did a wonderful job with that. a good looking ball. 1-2.

>> buck: that's one thing jim johnson wanted to improve upon way back in the spring was taking the hump out of -- the ump out of his breaking ball. he has done that. the ball comes it of his hand at the same angle as his fastball. it is very difficult to pick up on it if you're a hitter. >> jim: there is the 1-2. another breaking ball. he swings on it and misses. a good call there by gregg zaun. he saw the reaction on the previous pitch and went right back to it and johnson, back-to- back outstanding curve balls. >> buck: when this ball comes out of his hand, it is on the same plain as his fastball. the hitters think fastball and then the break takes a run underneath the swing. what a dramatic improvement by jim johnson. he was aware that the hitters were picking up on his breaking ball last year going up out of

his hand, different than the fastball. >> jim: two down in the 10th. here is cody ross. he's had a good night at the plate. breaking ball again. this one is high. 1-0. >> buck: badden hof is loose b -- loosening up in the bullpen. >> jim: florida has already used six pitchers in this game. fouled straight down at the plate. 1-1 on cody ross. >> buck: that is another advantage of the pitching staff pitching so well, the bullpen is well rested. gip johnson and george sherrill were the only two pitching in the gym on sunday. chris ray joined the team today. he worked on sunday for triple- a. that there is a strike out the knees. and johnson is an out away of getting this game to the 11th. 1-2 in the dirt.
