exhibit by the fifth inning. he had to throw a few fastballs and that did him in. the they were sitting on that pitch. >> how about the numbers on rich hill. he gave up eight hits in six runs in 3 1/3 because you count the 1-2-3 first inning. he lasted 3 1/3 innings. the hitting was unbelievable. >> yeah, their hit something very foo.d you've got to have something. rich hill outstanding curve ball. one of the best curve balls in all of baseball. there's no doubt about that. he's got to have a pitch that moves away from right-handers. he just becomes so vulnerable because they won't swing at the curve ball. they know it's his pitch. they'll sit back and wait for the fastball to come. then, it's not a tough fastball to hit because it's straight. then, the little cut -- little cutter he has comes to the right-hander all the time. he's got to come up with a changeup or so pitch that moves away from left-handers. that's the only way to keep them hohn east highlights early in the game for the florida marlins. pickup action in the marlins second inning. cody ross, a thorn in the orioles side had a two-run homer. his 13th.

west, the winnerment hill, the loser. nick markakis went 4-4 including two doubles and gregg zaun came through with a two- run base hit in the ninth inning. dan uggla, 2-5. a home run. his 15th. hanley ramirez with five more rbi's for the orioles. orioles wound up losing to the marlins 11-3. when you look back at this thing and the cody ross story, cody ross is a player that i told you a little bit about him when the series began. i knew he had three grand slams. i know a lot about the marlins. he had throw grand slams to start this series at 12 home runs. he seemed to keep pecking at the orioles. >> he's really coming on. he's second on the ball club in home runs. he's developing a power swing. he's very good at looking in fastball situationings. you see that pitch on the outside corner. he gets on it and pulls it down to the left field corner. uggla comes around and scores on the play. we saw this last night. just in time. still, it's an rbi for them. later on though, again, fastball middle in. he drives it over the shortstop head. sangle and another rbi.
9:53 pm
so, cody ross, i mean, he just looks like he knows what's coming. tonight, here again too, gets that pitch middle in again and bombs it into the seats in left center field. would you think by now that we would know not to pitch this guy middle in. he's looking to power the gawl ball and he's got to try some off-speed stuff to get him out. >> ross, 6-13 in the series. when you look back at it, he was a thorn in the orioles side but also hanley ramirez, dan uggla and jorge cantu. it's take your pick. pick your.sob. -- poison. >> we seem to be able it light up guys. when we go on the road and play this their stadiums, guys that aren't hitting seem to get pitches. one thing we'll have to remember is how we pitched them in the first game when they got hits. we have to make adjustments if we're going to turn this thing around. we note orioles have had good pitching for the last couple of weeks. we've had outstanding hitting late in ballgames. we can't continue to make the kind of mistake that we're making when we pitch guys consistently the same way where they're being successful. >> since interleague play started in 1997, orioles are 1-

portability, battery life and power... announcer: for under $1500. we told him you find it, you keep it. this is so sexy. but macs to me are about aesthetics more than they are the computing power. the keyboard is small. that thing is gigantic. it's got four gigs of ram. it's got the processing speed that i need. this laptop has got everything i want. ah! announcer: nice work, g. it's a pc. my budget was $1,500. this computer will do everything that i need. i'm a pc because i'm really picky.

life without walls. welcome back to our studio. tom davis with rick dempsey. rich hill had something interesting to say the least. he struck out first three battersment when you look at the line, 4 1/3 innings, gave up eight base hits rand six runs. sum up what you saw from rich hill. >> rich hill start this had ballgame out like a house of fire and was throwing his curve ball. it was almost unhittable at this time. watch the leadoff batter for them coghlan. no chance to hit that curve ball. another good one on the outside corner to bonifacio. both ramirez go ahead and pitch down. that's how good it is. they know it's coming. they still can't hit it. later in the game, he tries this little cutter that moves insidement he doesn't get away with it. right here, we already see cody ross with a power shot to left field. another home run on the season. his 13th. here again, uggla, he just monsterred this ball into the seeth seats and it's the same pitch cody ross hit. we're going to have to come up with something because rich hill is awesome with that curve ball. we've got to find one other
9:58 pm
really good pitch that he can throw that will cueto those -- get those people off the curve ball. you just can't continue to throw that many curve balls. it's too much stress on the elbow. you've got dom up with something that moves away from right-handed hitters. everything you -- everything you know, fastball is fairly strai. gets away with it sometimes weapon he use thaz fastball up in the zone and the curve ball is really working. most of the time when he's got to throw a strike and can't continue to throw curve balls, got to have something that stays a little bit away so he can get that ground ball someplace and keep them from just leaning back over the plate. >> rich hill, he gives up six runs, two hits in 4 1/3. we'll talk about sean west. he has interesting numbers about facing right-handed batters and left-handed batters. >> this is amazing that this young man can pitch as well as he pitches and still has a tough time with left-handed hitters. this is why he's supposed to be on the mound. look, nick markakis tonight, 2- 2 off the left-hander. look at the right-handers only 2-20 on the night. he came into this game left- handers were hitting .316 off
9:59 pm
him. right-handers were hitting .198. it's amazing that he can get through ballgames pitching like that. >> speaking of left-handers, nick markakis had a pretty good night off sean west. he went 2-2. he went 4-4 for the game and had a walk on five trips to the plate. nick markakis had a perfect night. when you look at nick markakis, he's been streaky lately. >> he has been streaky lately. when nick markakis breaks out, he doesn't get just one hit. gets three or four. first inning, look at that. he picks up this double right here. gives the orioles a chance to get on the board early. they just can't get him across the plate. later on in the inning, there is another ground ball up the middle. pitcher knocked it down. they can't throw him out at first. he's 2-2 already. later in the ballgame, now he gets another opportunity. he ended up the night with two doubles and two singles. here is another good shot to right field. good contact. that's his third hit of the night. brian roberts goes to second. we have two men on right here. we still can't get anybody across. we can't get that rally going. it wasn't bee
