we'll get you going at 1:00 pm with "nats xtra." this has been a presentation of masn. from the booth, so long for just a while. well, this ballgame tonight at nationals park began about 6 hours ago at 7:00. here it is at 1:00 am on a sunday morning, cozy gathering on hand to watch the finale of this ballgame after a rain delay of 3:11, the nationals crush the padres by a score of 13-1. >> i want to win a ballgame. the guys came out smoking with two runs early and tacked on five in that second inning. martin, i was impressed with his at-bat and going from first to third. jim riggleman, a little fuel i think going out there and team played very hard tonight. >> defining moment came in the second inning. j.d. martin draws a walk, then look out for adam dunn. >> adam after the martin walk, that's two out walk, we ended up with two base hits and a walk after that. adam dunn hits it for his 70th rbi of the year. already 70 rbi's. that's going to end up with 120, 125 at that pace. zim a. big home run, three hits. >> adam dunn's 11th career grand slam, his second this year. as you see, five rbi's for the night. nyjer morgan continues to just be on fire for the nationals.
1:02 am
his average almost .300 now. a couple runs scored tonight, and he just is a pest when he gets in the base pads. >> he's made every play defensively, another real good running play in center field tonight. he goes back to the wall. he's just ignited this ball club. i know that we haven't produced wins, but when he plays, he goes out there and there's a different energy. >> tyler clippard tonight comes in and just was, as you were right behind home plate, he was lights out with his zone and his strikeouts and his pitch selection, too. >> he does something that really was done a long time ago with that four-seam fastball, he elevates it and strikes people out. you're going to see how he just goes up after the fastball there. as good as anybody in this league. and he throws 90, 91, but it looks like they're going to catch up with it.
1:03 am
it's up there at eye level. the good hook that he has. three outstanding pitches. he's got starter stuff. they tried him as a starter. he went down there and had so much success as a reliever. but i'm not sure you're not looking at a guy that's going to eventually work himself into the rotation. he's got confidence, he's got ability to throw the ball to spots and he can elevate that fastball and get people to strike out. >> struck out seven padres tonight. there's more to come on "nats xtra post-game."
