7:01 pm
the first time this season hoping to get in this game, too. hi, everybody. the rain actually just started here at camden yards. there was little bit during the batting practice. both of the teams able to get in their pre-game work-outs before the tarp had to g out on the field, so we're waiting. hopefully the showers will go by. a heartbreaking loss to the orioles. marte with a home run in the ballgame last night. ninth inning would put it away for cleveland aone-run win. for only the third time this season, the orioles lost the ballgame where we had a lead go ing into the ninth. it was the fifth time this year that the cleveland indians pulled out a win where they have trailed go ing into the ninth inning. for cleveland, these are friendly confines. in fact, anywhere other than cleveland is is a friendly confine. you take a look at the numbers they have put up this season. for the orioles at home, the largest difference in the majors in their home batting average compared to their road average, but for the indians, they put up runs at home 4.1.
7:02 pm
but 5.6, nay have the largest difference in the major leagues with runs on the road. so this is a ballpark both are happy to play in. >> i don't want too many pitchers reading that graphic before the game carts. the cleveland indians with the younger lineup, haven't really gotten acclimated to the home ballpark yet. they have a good battle in this lineup. i think this young team plays very well. the orioles, on the other hand, love anytime this ballpark. it is a good background. there is a lot of space, and i just think they're very comfortable and really see the ball well in this park. >> the guys who have to try to shut all of that down. how about titch pitching tonight? >> buck: the pitching is interesting. jason berken goes to the mound. the one thing that berken did, as you look at his outing, five and 2/3 with two earned run pitching, is he used his two- seam fastball very well. it led to two double plays in the ballgame and nine ground ball outs overall so i think he found a new weapon that he likes and it is a little bit
7:03 pm
different look for him as he has been trying to use a four- seam fastball up in the zone. now that two-seamer gives him something where he can consistently pitch down. >> the man he will be pitching to is certainly moving along. the major league experience necessary in order to grow in the game is showing up for matt wieters. >> it sure is. last week we saw this joe mower and matt last night going the opposite way. the one thing i like as a young hitter, he doesn't think about pulling the ball to hit him out of the ballpark. we have seen him hit opposite field home runs as a left- handed hitter and a right- handed hitter. mower is already an all-star two-time batting champ. this is where they are, 62 game swos their careers, where matt wieters is. pretty similar numbers and now we know that the home run power has really on for joe this season. >> matt will be in the lineup together and a couple of teams are really in kind of the same cooking pot. they're both trying to develop their ball club for future years. >> yeah, gary. i think the real interesting
7:04 pm
thing and i think it is very important for the orioles is to start winning some of these games. you don't want to go into the off season wondering what kind of club you're going to have next year there are some things that have to be answered. some of these younger pitchers have to start winning games and pitching deep interthe outings. you can't just be settled with a six-game outing and say you did your job. you to learn how to win and this team collectively as a unit, will have to start winning games. >> we're going to have a delayed start. we should be able to get this one. when e come back, game two. we'll come back and set the stage!
7:06 pm
>> the weather prognosticat had this one out. they got the tarp out and now it is really raining hard for the first time. so we will await the start of this ballgame. right now we are in a rain delay. indians, orioles, game two, as soon as they're ready to go. alternate programming to enjoy while we wait.

7:09 pm
it's to try to better myself every day, competing with myself. and so i think now just the whole world knows, which is kind of cool, but i'm still keeping my head down, you know, studying as much tape as i can, trying to get better every day in the little things to make myself a better quarterback. but now it's just exciting because i have the title and the team knows and i kind of get to do this thing with the guys. it's pretty fun. >> my guys all tell me you are definitely a film studier. how much ohio state film have you watched? >> a little bit. not too much. i'm just taking one game at a time really. i learned early on not to look ahead because you never know what's going to pop up right in front of you. so san jose state right now, that's our focus. and, you know, once that game is over, then we'll move on and put our full effort into ohio state. >> congratulations and go get 'em and come visit us soon, matt. >> i appreciate it. thanks for your time.

7:17 pm
if he's ever going to reach it, he really has to have this one tomorrow night. >> it's potential. it's talent and it's technical. this guy has all the skills in the world to be one of the best 205 pounders in the world. now he's taking his training seriously, his diet is phenomenal. everything top to bottom, he's on top of it. his focus looked great in his last fight. he's going to need that focus to beat soszyns ask i today because he's no joke. simple as that. >> three fights on top of the main card. might as well call it the big three, couture and nogueira we also mentioned. we have a fight at 2005 with sylvia. the fight with the most title implications is in the middle weight division, nate marcar taking on damian maya. the winner should be second in line to get anderson silva and a shot at the middleweight title. they are getting ready to hit the scales in portland oregon. there is damian maya. for casual mma fan, this guy is
7:18 pm
must-see. >> what he does out there in the octagon is truly an art. he's a brazilian jujitsu phenom. he gets his opponents on the ground and oftentimes guys will beat them without even throwing a strike. that's phenomenal. when you see that being done in the octagon at the highest left,it's unbelievable. >> but he's stepping up in class against a guy getting ready to state on the scale in nate marquardt. he's a well-rounded fighter hsm we beat you standing. he can beat you on the ground. he's not going to be afraid of damian maia's jujitsu. >> there has been a fear factor with regards to maia. marquardt is not going to be afraid of anything. you talk about a guy who has fawghtd and won all over the world. >> that was an intense stare down. there i'm looking forward to this fight. these guys are very technical.

7:20 pm
sylvia shows up against this man, keith jardine, a guy who is you bigly is referred to as a gatekeeper in the light heavyweight division that. may diminish everything he brings to the table. >> he's very unorthodox. he's solid all the way around. it's very difficult to git on to a rit wum keith jardine. you don't see the punches coming. you don't see the kicks coming. and that makes him very dangerous. we haven't seen too much of him on the ground, but he's dangerous, there as well. he's got very good wrestling. he's just a very tough guy more someone to go against right now. >> keith jardine coming in right on the number, 205, as he takes on sylvia. ufc 102 is yours on pay pay-per-view saturday night from the rose garden, home of the portland trailblazers. we're getting ready for the main event, randy couture and antonio nogueira. >> i love fight against him. >> fight against me.

7:23 pm
this is a lean nogueira. he looks focused and ready for randy couture. >> certainly a mma that's been very difficult to finish throughout his career in over 35 fights had never been knocked out until the loss to frank mira. >> nogueira is the kind of guy i would compare to the late, great arturo gati. he'll take punishment, he'll keep coming at you and he'll find a way to win. he was hit by a truck at age 11 and still kept coming. here he is, probably the biggest name in all of mixed martial arts, 46 years young, randy couture, one of two division champions in the history of the ultimate fighting championship, former heavyweight champion, formerlight heavyweight champion, and that does not look like a 46-year-old man. >> don, that doesn't say it any better. >> that's not a 46-year-old body. that's randy couture's body. that body is 15 years younger. you can't gauge where he is by looking at his face mentally. he's just always smiling, always ready, and you know he's confident.
