speaking of quarterbacks who are at the top of the heap, where a guy like matthew stafford wants to get, it's drew brees. one of six touchdown passes today. saints set a franchise record most points scored in week one. week one of the nfl season. that light up the scoreboard for 45 points. 45-27. that send the lions to their 18th straight victory. what else would drew brees be after the game but happy about his team's week one performance. >> absolutely. score 45. you look ate and you say well, we turned the ball over three times, missed a field -- got a field goal blocked. there's a lot more opportunities out there to be had. that's a good thing. but then again, you realize that it only gets tougher as we go forward here. we have a huge challenge next week at philadelphia. i know that had a big win today against carolina.

win. >> one of those good football teams, the philadelphia eagles. although victory sort of secondary, compared to what happened to donovan mcnabb. let's see this eagles defense. like rabied dogs in the second quarter. >> just a good job designing a blitz to get after it. get that one guy open. that's all you need is one guy. then the special teams stepped up big today with who i just think this guy is fantastic player, so explosive, jackson. >> you want to see him get into the end zone. he is so fantastic. 85 yards. eagles led 17-10. third quarter. gonna see this play a lot here in the days to come. mcnabb into the end zone. but after the play, grabbing at his back. appeared to be a rib. michael vick -- >> can't tell if it was the initial hit there or if the guys falling afterwards. but just eagle fans everywhere

right now just holding their breath. >> well, so, too, may be donovan mcnabb, depending on how painful it is. it is a fractured rib. but michael vick on the roster, not available until week three. kevin cobb finished out the game. he was obviously not in a situation where he needed to throw the football 38-10 win. but after the game, mcnabb didn't have a whole heck of a lot to say. brian westbrook did to our sal palantonio. >> we came out to play football. we didn't quite gel the first couple series the way we wanted to. but we kept fighting. guys up front settled down. we started catching the ball. turned out well for us. >> once it became clear that your defense was gonna give you some turnovers and a short field, how much energy did that infuse into this offense? >> that means a lot when your special teams and defense is creating turnovers and scoring points. that means a whole lot for the offense.

but we thought jake gave us the best opportunity at the time. there was a couple plays that, you know, i'm not sure were all jake's fault when you look at the football. >> what was your reaction when you told him you were taking him out? >> none at all. he's a team player. he's going to do what's best for the team. you win this game as a team and lose it as a team. it's not one guy that loses football games. >> questions swirling around jake delhomme and how much longer he is the man to lead the football team in carolina. that know brett favre is at least for this season in minnesota. adrian peterson. spectacular day on the ground. 180 yards. one of his three touchdowns farve hooking up with persy har vin stretching it in. we're gonna see the peterson touchdown run again here, e. a. vikings, are that one of those teams that jump off the page?

league. then slaton 9 carries, 17 yards. rex ryan flying high with the jets. >> we're 1-0. that's where we expected to be. we knew it would be tough sledding against a good football team. but our guys were up to the task. offensive line, i think, played outstanding, you know? i don't think we gave up a sack all day. thought the kid did a great job avoiding pressure in the pocket. made some big throws for us. with the amount of talent we have on this team, i know that i don't have to do everything. and after that costly mistake, i think it was late third quarter, early fourth, the interception. just inexcusable. you can't do that. it was a big-time rookie mistake. but the most encouraging thing was coach ryan, the entire offensive line, guys on defense, it's over, we're not changing our focus, we're winning this game. >> i believe in this football

what to watch for tonight when you're watching sunday night football. bears and packers. chicago revamping its team, adding jay cutler to the fold. green bay introduced aaron rod jers as their full-time starter a season ago. we could see some offensive fireworks tonight in green bay. let's welcome in bob holtzman from lambeau field. bob, it is the first matchup head to head between two of the league's top young quarterbacks. give us an idea, a feel for the excitement inside lambeau field

about this matchup tonight. >> certainly seems the days of the 13-10 packers slug fest are over with these two guys playing quarterback. first for chicago there's a sense around the bears that jay cutler is the best quarterback that they've had on this team not just in a couple years, but in a couple generations. and if the offensive line, which has been rebuilt, and the wide receiver corp, which is a little thin, can produce around him, there's a sense he will have a very big year. as for aaron rodgers, the packers really feel like this t sky's the limit. he went back and looked at every single snap he took last year on film, sat down and analyzed it. if you look at what he did during the preseason, it was scary. nine of 13 the packers scored touchdowns. he was in total control throughout the entire preseason. the packers expect that to carry over into tonight. >> we could talk about offense, bob, but one of the real under the radar stories in the preseason has been green bay's

switch to the three-four defense under dom capeers. how are that describing how the transition has gone in green bay? >> it's gone surprisingly well. and fast. again, you look at the preseason. don't want to put too much stock in what happened during the preseason. but this three-four defense has created 13 turnovers in the four preseason games. the question tonight is, that haven't been challenged yet by a tandem like matt fortay and jay cutler, who is very difficult to sack. jay cutler is the most difficult quarterback in the league to sack last year. so you have to wonder with just those front three if that will be able to get enough pressure, not on to stop fortay, but to get to the quarterback. >> players in this league talk about it. one game at a time. we hear the cliches. last year the bears were embarrassed at lambeau field 37-3. how much ebbing tra motivation are sesing is carrying over to tonight? >> well, there's definitely come. the reason why, kevin, is that love vi smith has made his team watch the game film from that

game here last november a number of times. that are tired of watching it. that want to make up for it tonight. one big change is smith is in charge of the defense. he's calling the defensive plays, which he was not doing when that came here last year. the big question for the bears, quite honestly, is their secondary. they've had a patchwork secondary throughout the preseason because of injury. charl tillman had back surgery in june. he's just now working his way back. he didn't play at all during the preseason. he's listed as questionable tonight. question, is even if he does play, how successful and how well he'll play. >> the slug fests are no more. might be a shootout this time around. but it is a good nfc north battle. bob holtzman joining us in green bay. bob, many thanks. >> thanks kevin. back to the afc we go. joe flacco and the ravens. flacco one of the surprise storys in the nfl. no longer. cat out of the bag. flacco, 31 yards to mark clayton. ravens got a little more than
