in the game about how mclean was kind of an "x" factor for the xavier team. there's no secret that he was kind of in the dog house for a few games, got taken out of the starting lineup, only played three minutes against butler. he told me he knew he wasn't playing hard enough in practice. i asked him why, he said, well, he wasn't really sure, but he believed in the coaches. he didn't put his head down. he tried to work harder, and i think we're seeing the results. he's coming off a double-double in the last game. now a career high and a rebound away from another double-double. >> ron: i think also following up, coming into this game he was just 4 of 14 from the free-throw line. tonight he's 8 of 9 to go along with the nine rebounds and 20 points. now, dino gaudio in a time-out like this, dan bonnor, is he not only talking about what if he makes it, what if he misses it, is he doing an offensive set also along with possible blocking out and the usual stuff? >> dan: i think, ron, in this

situation with this amount of time left in the game, of course, he says if he misses it, we have to block out and get it, but i don't think wake forest will do anything differently whether he makes it or misses it. you have plenty of time. make sure you get the rebound, get the ball down the court, whatever you attempt, a two or three, you have to do it quickly. >> ron: two-point advantage, 47 seconds left in overtime. the freshman stewart with the right hand. mclean the rebound. he's got a double-double and he draws the foul with 35 seconds to be played. >> dan: stewart, no hesitation by stewart. he took the ball right to the basket, but i'm not sure in that situation that i would have wanted stewart particularly taking that shot. you've got smith and aminu both out there. i think i'd rather have them

and missed two free throws and xavier has been very good from the free-throw line. if they lose the game, they can look back on a play like that and wonder what if. unlike at the end of regulation where xavier was able to call a couple of time-outs to run the clock down, they have no time-outs left. they're obviously going to try to hold it to the last shot. >> ron: here is holloway with nine. looking for the pick. holloway to the hole. rejected by mcfarland! ish smith throws it up. no good. we're going to double ot. >> dan: wow. >> ron: chas mcfarland with his 14th block of the year, and it was a big one. let's look at the rejection again. >> dan: we talked about being able to defend the screen, and mcfarland, he was the guy who was guarding the screener and he just goes back into the lane. does a nice job moving his feet. good help by aminu.

and once again xavier led by two at intermission. we were tied at overtime and now we're going into double ot. a couple of story lines we've been following the stors. ishmael smith, al-farouq aminu have stood up. jordan crawford has indeed stood up for xavier, but you look at the numbers, what stands out if you're a wake forest fan, your team shot 51% so far in this game from the free-throw line. that hurts. >> dan: well, it hurts, but what you have to say, ron, is this is a wake forest team that obviously is a very, very gritty team, that they have not allowed the fact this they missed all those free throws to affect other parts of their game. they just played, and i have really been imprets ssed with c mcfarland. this is a young guy that got a technical foul called on him, his fourth foul, but he's really played well. he's been a rebounding and shot blocking factor late in the game and in overtime.

>> ron: ishmael smith in overtime was outstanding, and that is the underestimate of 2010. >> dan: he knocked down threes, drove the ball to the basket, he made defensive plays. he has had a fabulous game. this three, just backs up and knocks it down. that ties the game. here we go again. >> ron: and we'll jump it up. xavier beat cincinnati in double overtime. last double overtime game was when they beat georgia tech 114-112. duke is leading clemson by six. >> ron: ari stewart just picked up his fourth foul. crayford has been crawford has been a major factor. now, aminu has four fouls. mcfarland has four fouls. stewart has four fouls. >> ron: and, of course, l.d.

four-point game. 26 points for aminu ties his career high. dino gaudio has called a time-out. how big was that free throw by al-farouq aminu? >> dan: one of the things i think dino gaudio wants to talk to his guys about is there's a lot of time left in this game. you just don't want to let xavier run down the court and get an easy basket. that first game that we had on our "acc sunday night hoops" triple-header between florida and north carolina state shows you how the game can get stretched out and a team can hang in there with trading free throws and three-point baskets and things like that. so there's a lot of time left in the game and if you're wake forest, you want to play good defense. you don't want to foul, but you do not want to give xavier a quick, easy trip down the court. >> ron: last two possessions defensively wake forest has done a pretty nice job. >> dan: harris does a nice job on the inside cutting off the

development this season, since coming back from the wrist injury, that could make duke the kind of complete team that could go into the second, maybe third week of the tournament this year. >> mike: he's the big that teams would have to pay attention to offensively. they're hoping he develops into that. he missed an opportunity early in the nonconference schedule to get confidence and court time. the last time out, he had his best game. coaches think he's progressing. >> tim: oliver purnell's team, 12-2 coming in. they are missing some of that fire power, mike. that's been evident tonight. in inability to hit the big flies. we remember oglesby from a year ago. the rifleman from tennessee no longer where this club pap few of those kind of perimeter shots could have them closer than they
