2:01 pm
the bench. goodlett. we told you ardossi and montgomery have struggled. they are one of nine from the field. obviously boston college has to feel good. for stefanie murphy her career high is 27 17 points is the most she ever scored in the half at her career. >> it's been impressive. she made herself available to her passers. she's done the little things in which to score and she's reaping huge benefits. >> here is where we put robin to work in what to watch for and we reset it. how have both these teams done. the important points you set out at the top of the telecast. >> pressure defense of georgia tech has been handled well by boston college. only three steals. however, they wanted to limit their turnovers and fouls which they have done playing a pretty clean game. boston college stay in the half-court game only two fast break points. they need to handle that tech pressure. they have seven turnovers. overall i would say they have done a great job handling the
2:02 pm
tech pressure. >> alex montgomery playing 20 minutes per game. she's on the bench, not a starter after the knee injury. but i suspect she'll be in quickly. she did not have a good first half but she had lots of company. murphy having trouble. comes to the rescue boston college, the first possession of the second half. both bigs are in. swords playing with two fouls. murphy in the first half, dive it in to score she tries to skip it over to murphy and it's stolen by deja foster. foster down the floor. she'll see sharrena tailor, freshman that gets to start. >> taylor, rookie of the week. she has the ability to put up numbers, be an impact player. goor to bring out the freshman. >> brittanny johnson makes
2:03 pm
georgia tech pay for it. she has seven points in the ball game. back to 41-26. murphy picks it up. boston college will run given the opportunity, picco in transition a floater with the left hand. nice touch. bc stretches their lead. >> starting out the second half as they did the ball game in terms of switching the ball going to the inside. this zone defense giving a lot of problems for georgia tech. >> picco again this time blocked. it's going to go to georgia tech. good defense by metra walthour. machelle trying to light a fire under her team. has to use the left hand because the right hand has a cast on it. she wore a gray soot has a gray cast. she had a cycling accident. she's anxious to get that cast
2:04 pm
off. >> that gets old. whether she changed cast color to change outfits. apparently she's changed it a couple of times. >> ardossi obviously bothered by swords. johnson has the loose ball. thoman a rare turnover just a second for thoman. this is the youngster taylor who speeds to sophomore adams. georgia tech has a nice opportunity to finish. >> georgia tech on the run which is what they like to do. >> murphy. >> you've got to score at one end so you set up your press. otherwise boston college is going to take you down, get to that inside game. it's all about getting the ball interior, getting to the big girls. >> if your opponent playing boston college you worry so much about scores low post position, you don't want to beat down the floor transition but murphy is just as dangerous. >> absolutely.
2:05 pm
they are a one-two punch on the interior where one might be hesitant or not have an advantage, the other one is picking uptown slack. >> here is thoman, help on the way. swords picco off the screen. thoman, they are going to give her the three and she buries it. >> recognition by thoman to take the outside shot. force the defense to add just. needs the time-out. >> 9-0 run. boston college right now h @"

2:08 pm
was better, greiner or your coach as greiner. they said greiner but don't tell the coach. >> the steal with the layup. ç@3@9gñóy6yñqñqçp;úwlwmo÷omolw÷w÷wñ;vçñ+>kócócócósoqwyç÷óñ''ñ@pçdddfñzñññ?ow?ñ?k?ñgógwb=c >> georgia tech unable to find an answer to swords-murphy combination but adding to that the aggressive play by the boston college guards. georgia tech is just stymied. >> nice jumper taylor freshman out of pontiac, michigan. it's a 20-point ball game. ardossi with a steal and foul. walthour bumped by johnson. four minutes in second half just joined us number 21 georgia tech on the road.
2:09 pm
they have had a very impressive season. 15 and 3, number 21. three losses, all have been on the road. it's a top 15 team. six-point losses oklahoma state and georgia and 11 point loss at north carolina. they didn't have alex montgomery in that oklahoma state loss and they had her for a few minutes in the georgia loss as well. ardossi, a difficult shot gets it to go. it's been a frustrating game so far for the australian who went for 29 and 11 last time out against wake forest. >> brigitte ardossi starting to make something happen on both i understand ends of the floor. defensively, turnover get the ball back from georgia tech. a tough move underneath. she was literally behind the backboard or underneath the backboard, able to get that shot up to the basket. >> the shot clock johnson sees that, drives and finishes. brittanny johnson a grad
2:10 pm
2:12 pm
>> rich: twenty point ball game, five minutes into second half. we talked about a couple of players to watch. wouldn't you know it, those players haven't had the best of afternoons. brigitte ardossi for georgia tech, the australian has struggled. it's been a frustrating day. you can see she has just six. mickel picco sitting at five points. she's watched most of the big kids do the scoring, stefanie murphy with 15 and carolyn swords at eight. jaclyn thoman. ayla brown in the game. johnson beats the press. >> robin: you need to point to an unsung hero for boston college it needs to be thoman. her poise with the ball, her
2:13 pm
presence against the press although she turned it over there and her ability to distribute to the inside, which is given boston college such a healthy read. >> off the rebound to goodlett. here comes thoman. that would be swords up in the left hand. ten points, double figures, averaging 15 points and 10.5 rebounds a game. continues to lead the nation in field goal shooting. >> brigitte ardossi gets caught behind her, which is a tough place to try to defend somebody as good as swords. there's just no way to keep her from being able to face up and score plus the size differential. four or five inches given up by ardossi. >> thoman dribbles into the double-team now back out of it. sword shooting almost 66% from the field per game. a perfect five and five on this one.
2:14 pm
she hasn't hurt the percentage at all. johnson launches and hits. boston college 5 of 13 from beyond the arch doing everything right and right now stretching their lead over number 21 georgia tech. >> robin: you're georgia tech you feel like the ball in boston college hands has a tracking beacon on it for the bottom of the basket. everything they put up seems to be falling in. >> rich: it's going to be a boston college -- the good news is bc is up 25, georgia will sit down with three pernls. didn't miss a beat when she sat down in the first half with two personal. stefanie murphy had one of the best first halves of her career with the 17 points.
2:15 pm
she scored just twice in the second half. >> robin: absolutely do not miss a beat when swords sits down and murphy comes in at least in this game. murphy rising to the challenge against georgia tech. aaaaaabb@b@bbb b babaa4 >> rich: the yellowjackets with the possession but down 25. goodlett it's fouled on the reach. brown, it's a tough assignment for ayla brown trying to battle sasha goodlett. goodlett is 6'5" brown is 6'1". >> robin: with swords out, you have an opportunity to work back in this ball game, because boston college has a smaller -- somewhat smaller lineup on the interior. you have ayla brown at 6'
2:16 pm
murphy at 6'4" that laos goodlett and ardossi to match up more evenly, if they can continue to look for opens on the interior georgia tech, they will be able to sneak back into this ball game and chip into the lead. >> there's ardossi, pretty good move. ardossi has had a frustrating day. she's had a frustrating day and so has alex montgomery. talking to the georgia state coaches, one of the things they said about her knee injury, some days for her are really tough. to have major surgery acl surgery and you rehab from it. if you've ever had a major injury you know, some days you feel good some days it doesn't. i would suspect one of those days where it doesn't feel
2:20 pm
ê e on top of number 21 georgia tech. george tech seen the likes of uptempo play in transition. how about this for fast break our wendy's fast break of the game. >> push it out quickly from the point guard, run the floor to your post running down the center of the floor. it's classic. that's exactly how you draw it out, rich. >> rich: you can see a little bit of boston college making the transformation from a purely half-court team to a little more uptempo, which is where sylvia crowley wants to take this program. she wants that feel. they were uptempo when she played at north carolina.
2:21 pm
she keeps a notebook. as player she played for 23 years of plays she liked as a player, plays opponents would run against her that were successful. she has a huge notebook in her office. she'll pull out plays. right now she's got about five in her offense. as they transition more to uptempo, more of those plays are coming out of that notebook. >> robin: she continues to recruit players that can run the style she wants. we'll see more and more of those plays. she also mentioned acc is an uptempo league. in order to be competitive each and every night, and you cannot take a game off in this athletics conference, you've got to be able to recruit players that can get up and down the floor. >> rich: thoman beats the clock but doesn't draw iron because of the a shot clock violation. that means players like thoman have to pick up the tempo. that means carolyn swords and stefanie murphys and big kids from boston college have to make
2:22 pm
a transformation from half-court to uptempo, getting up and down the floor. >> and we're seeing they can. there have been a couple of times, very impressive swords way she gets out, runs the floor. obviously murphy in that last basket, she can get down in a hurry. >> i think a great example of a player like that that scored is sasha goodlett. good let had to make that transition coming into an uptempo program at 6'5" she's done that nicely. >> robin: absolutely. trimmed down worked on mobility getting up and down. she gained a lot of confidence playing against the twins at oklahoma last year second round of the ncaa turm. she learned a lot from that tournament. >> eight >>. >> rich: eighteen points for goodlett. >> robin: sasha goodlett has been the bright spot offensively
2:23 pm
for georgia tech. because of that they still are making points. continue to give confidence as she gets more and more playing time. >> rich: not something to make sylvia crawley happy, a couple of shot clock violations in the last. with 10:30 minutes left and a lead she has room for error. >> robin: georgia tech ratcheting up pressure taking away options that were readily available early putting more pressure on the ball and collapsing down into the post. that avenue has not been open those last couple of possessions. >> rich: you know one thing, swords rips down another rebound, georgia tech is very good at pressing and causing turnovers. but you've got to make baskets to press in the backcourt. if they are not shooting and
2:24 pm
they are not they are 34%, it's do you have have an effective press. >> robin: absolutely. that's the single biggest factor. when your bread and butter is offense, creating offense with defense is the pressing style if you can't score, you can't press. so you wait for dead balls. you wait for the occasional bucket to go through. i think that is part of the reason why we have not been able to see a lot of points put up by this georgia tech squad. >> nwachukwu in trouble. goes to georgia tech. >> robin: the third possession in a row in which boston college turned it over. two with a shot clock violation and this one a turnover the old-fashioned way. georgia tech defense a little bit harder. >> rich: got to rebound a little better. thoman probably told her team the ump teenth team.
2:25 pm
georgia college outrebounding georgia 17 to 28 prosecuted that number is significant especially considering the high scoring percentage boston college has if they are taking advantage of getting some second shots and getting on the defense, taking away second shot opportunities for georgia tech. >> walthour the miss and foster fouls on the rebound. murphy is back in. so murphy and swords both with three personals. both have had outstanding days. murphy in particular. she's five points shy of a career high @ of she's got 23 murphy is 10 of 13 for the field. scored 5 of 5 on theïfield. dddhh( ã881@q000p thoman, 5ñ6ñ.ñ picco a little more patient offensively. that's bog nice. that is nice. >> that is so hard to stop.
2:26 pm
swords what great hands she has. ' thoman putting it away. two defenders trying to stop swords on that particular play. thoman$ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ passing away from the defensá allowiná swords to gá get it. >> rich: montgomery on the sideline when she got the pass. it's been a frustrating day for alex montgomery 0 for 4 for the field. three rebounds, couple of assists, a turnover. she averages 13 a game.at!ñií
2:27 pm
montgomery 14 points a game. johnson good ball save. she new murphy waiting, ardossi got a hand on it. no resets on the shot clock. >> robin: got fancy with the pass. up in the air initially thought she might put it up on the glass. saw murphy on the top of the defense trying to lift it over the hand. >> rich: picco falling away. it's a three. mickel picco eight in this ball game. a senior out of austin, texas one of the best three-point shooters in boston college history. >> robin: another dagger for boston with georgia tech in that when you think you've got it author all on the inside, then you've got picco launching the three-pointer. >> rich: biggest lead boston college and a foul inside. mickel picco just 5'8" but dan

this ball game. our game summary has been all boston college this afternoon. >> robin: they have been incredible shooting 67%, dominating on the inside with 40 points. goodlett trying to keep georgia tech in it with 14 points for boards, murphy with a season high and approaching her career high which was 28. >> rich: she just picked up her personal foul, a question embezzle she will get to that career high. three-point shot at halftime just the second three she's made this year. >> robin: she shot that with confidence, too. you would think she shot that every day. >> rich: goodlett having quite an afternoon 15 points. the big sophomore from georgia tech. she'll sit down. i think she kind of operates in
2:31 pm
the shadow of ardossi having a breakout year. goodlett 9.5 rebounds a game. >> georgia tech with a smaller lineup, let goodlett out trying to pick up the pace. more aggressive defense with the smaller lineup, perhaps more mobility. boston college still not hesitating to knock down a shot from all over. >> ayla brown with that jumper. >> rich: mvp on the road, lost a tight one in maryland. beat north carolina state by 17 in their opener in the acc. i think swords is going to pick up her fourth personal. both swords and murphy have four personals but it hardly matters at least at this point 68-41.
2:32 pm
you would expect boston college is able to get that back in if georgia tech going to go on any type of a run. >> absolutely. the luxury of spreading it out, play as long as you can play and still have another big post player. with a smaller lineup, though look for perhaps a little more finesse play from boston college. also work the half-court eating up some clock. under 7:00 left, well in control. use some time. no need to rush. >> bc take a :30 second time-out. two and one boston college at one and one. more to play this month. for the eagles after this ball game boston college has got virginia coming up and then they go on the road to a very good

possessed by georgia tech after the miss? >> robin: a discussion of that. i don't recall that it hit the rim. >> rich: here is the sequence that probably should have been a charge. it did not hit the rim and it was not possessed. >> robin: right. and the rebounder or person trying to get it down foster, raised the question did she step out-of-bounds. >> rich: even if she stepped out-of-bounds they should not reset the shot clock. >> robin: they are giving the ball to boston college. >> rich: if they give the ball to boston college then the shot clock should be at 1:00 at the very most. machelle isn't happy and she has every right not to be.
2:36 pm
>> robin: give them :30. >> they are indicating, officials anyway, georgia tech did have possession. :29 seconds. >> a break fresh shot clock. nwachukwu gets offensive rebound and she fouls. frustrating sequence for georgia tech to say the least. >> robin: frustration in the scramble made great shot, bad shot by brittanny johnson. thought they had that loose ball, the shot clock violation no, it goes back to boston college and then a foul on a rebound. >> rich: this the boston college team that members of the acc felt were pretty good. they voted them sixth in the preseason polls.
