basketball to other offensive targets in transition. >> keturah jackson lost the ball. >> this is a physical, athletic committed defense by duke. >> and the travel is going to be called on goodlett. she really played well the last game against florida state and they tried to get her the ball early. >> for the coach, the interior play was very good against florida state. the guard play wasn't so good. you have to have good guard play if you're going to beat duke. you have to handle against pressure. >> bridgette mitchell, taking the shot, no good, but grabs her own rebound. thomas, to the hoop and in. >> thomas is committed to getting to the front of the rim. she is determined and when she gets playing like she looks like she's running downhill,

called me and it it was -- 2007 -- debbie antonelli called employee and it was the third bout with coach yow. it became the wbca think zone. it started with a few schools and now it's up to 1600. >> it's a labor of love. where does the money go? how is it used and what things have you been able to do with the money? >> well, working with the jimmy v. and cancer fund, it all goes to research. if you want to give to the pink zone, to coach yow. it goes actually to grants. we gave out one for the final four, $100,000 for cancer research. >> that's fantastic.

people might not know that you're a former camper of coach yow. you've been there a lot inside reynolds coliseum. then the banner unveiled on sunday. your thoughts on just the legacy of coach yow. >> i mean, it's hard to put into words. sometimes it feels like a yearing, a sometimes it feels like a day ago and sometimes it's like 10 years ago. but her impression and her footprint she left in women's basketball is unbelievable. i think it was really special that coach harper asked the foreigner players to unveil that and it just -- former players to show that. it shows that coach yow transcends any institution. it's about finding a cure for cancer. >> bess, have you been pleased? $1.3million raised for breast cancer research and awareness. >> it's going excellent. over 1600 schools and touching one million fans and raising over $1 million so far. coach yow would not tell us to quit until we've cured cancer though. we've got to keep it. that's what coach yow would

in her power to help them be successful. >> dr. johnson with inspired you to be the pioneer and entrepreneur and be what are have become? >> first and foremost, my mother. she has always been a woman that has sort of been on my back saying you can do it. don't let anyone tell you you can't do it. she provided me with love and discipline and never say no. she gave me the courage to move through life. i had the greatest childhood. my father was a neurosurgeon one of 11 in the country at the time. and he couldn't practice in white hospitals. and so he had to practice in the v.a. hospital and he was connected with the army and did operations in mash units and then he was in the japanese-

american war. when he came back to the united states it was tough. i was as young as four or five i understood what racism was all about. we had to move every ten months. >> did he introduce you to this whole world of music and instruments? >> my dad did. at 5 years old i had to start playing the piano. i took piano lessons. i loved it and there were times i didn't like it because i wanted to be out with my friends but coming home from school i had to practice but it's my love is the violin. >> is music your first love? >> not only my first love, it has given me the foundation for life. >> in what ways? >> i think every child and i am glad you were one of my students -- i'm really -- teaches you how to focus. teaches you how to organize.

teaches you how to listen. teaches you how to communicate. i really like the town. i like the countryside it was something i never experienced before. ♪ [ music ] >> can you explain your -- not just your passion but your vision for salamander hospitality? >> i want to build one of the strongest hospitality companies in the country. i'm not saying that i may or i may not grow to the level of the hiltens and marriott, i started it later in life. but i want my thumbprint on every one of the properties so that when i are to retire which will probably never happen they will say this is a sheila johnson property.

dr. johnson you are the only african-american female owner in sports. where did your love for sports come from? >> it started in elementary school. i was a cheerleader which was before title 9 so we weren't able to play in sports. i got to run track and be on the synchronized swim team and play half court basketball even though i couldn't play it was important i was a cheerleader so i could be at every game, football and basketball. that is where the love came from. >> what led you to the mystics?

>> abe pollin. i have to give this man full credit for all of the -- just the insight that he could even want to look at me to put me as the face of the mystics. >> did you feel it was important to find a woman? >> absolutely. we wouldn't have sold it to anyone else? >> why was that? >> a woman should own the team. >> as we were going through the process, i also realized more than just the washington mystics, it is buying into the entire vision of what abe pollin has built here. why couldn't i have a piece of that also? >> i went to the owner of the caps. we had to convince him that this plan i had in mind was not only to buy the mystics but also into the caps and the wizards which is all part of lincoln holdings.

i would say a month and a half went by. they accepted the idea and said it would be great publicity to have an african-american woman be a part of the lincoln holdings franchise. and ted was open to the idea and excited about it. >> see will l.a. and i are close friends. we have a great, great partnership and i'm proud of what she's done with the team. she is so connected to the fan base and the sponsors. she has been a philanthropist and is creative. she is a great businesswoman and just an all around -- i'd say an exemplary role model for young women and young adults throughout the city and country. >> not only could i be a part of a wnba team, but i also could carry just as much weight in the old boys network, which was terrific. >> with the second pick in the

2009wnba draft, the washington mystics select marissa coleman from maryland. >> i was told about ten years ago but an nba executive that when are you looking for a job opportunity, you have to be very critical of the organization and look to work with people that are great leaders and have been successful and when i had an opportunity to sit down with dr. sheila johnson and hear her vision for the mystic organization and their passion for the young women on the team and for what we could do many this market there is no doubt i wanted to be a part of it. >> i couldn't ask to be in a better organization, ms. johnson is an unbelievable person and owner. her and ted are the most passionate owners in this league. you don't have many passionate owners. you have owners associated with nba teams. but sheila will do anything she

can to make sure we are set. she wants nothing more than for the team to win. if we handle our business on the court off the court it is handled for us. >> everything about her represents what we are and are trying to become. she is a positive role model. she is involved with the mystics because she has passion to help women. she has position to help african-american women. and she uses the mystics as a platform to can do that. >> if you have been around them for a second their energy is contagious and i feel i'm blessed to have an opportunity to carry out their vision and try to see what they want and have in store for the d.c. market. >> i plan my life out around opportunities and if opportunities come along i look at it and look at it realistically. if i have the ability and the door is open to say, look, we'd

as i was writing this i asked sheila what jacken robinson meant to her. in the darkest hours of the civil rights movement jackie lit the pathway of opportunity

for all african-americans, sheila you too are a shiny beacon lighting the pathway for african-americans today like jackie robinson you always hit it out of the park. >> mrs. robinson, as a young woman who grew up in the immediate wake of your husband's historic achievement i want to thank you for -- from the bottom of my heart for your incredible strength all those years and thank you as well for all you have done to keep your husband's spirit alive. i am honored to know you and i only wish i could have known him. to those that have said, dr. johnson you have accomplished enough, just relax a little bit. what is driving you right now? >> life. i enjoy life. i enjoy living every day. every day is different for me.
