landry fields probably finished second. >> 22 points, nine rebounds a game. first and second respectively in this conference. winning should be his middle name. landry fields does just about everything you can ask for. on the court he's got the strength inside. he's got the athleticism. he can step out and k with trotter, fields, green is a big-time scorer, can really hit from outside. jarrett mann is a very talented point guard and shiller is a good outside shooter. their coach is johnny dawkins. was an assistant a longtime for mike krzyzewski at duke. terrific scorer and he says he has seen landry fields become better and better every single game. meantime, you've got asu coming in, we told the 22 wins this year. they've got a guy by the name of derek glasser. glasser is a guy everybody believes in on that team. >> you heard about the good point guard that they have.

alone. our pacific life first half summary as we seek ucla will meet california's approximately 6:00 tomorrow and then the winner of this stamford/arizona state game will meet the winner of the oregon state/washington game, which will be an interesting matchup of a team that's clock control against the speed of the huskies. at the free-throw line, landry fields, who came in averaging 23.5 points per game his last 12. he's gotten better over several games. >> marques: he could have very easily got the award as stanford goes into someone-2-2 full-court pressure. along with quincy pondexter and ty abbott, they could have been candidates for the conference most improved player of the year award. >> steve: you can add eric boateng to that. >> steve: >> marques: without question especially the way boateng is coming down the stretch. defense a 2-3 zone. kind of a matchup.

attacking the rim. not just settling for jumpers against that zone defense. this is a stanford team that took kentucky to overtime earlier in the year. >> landry fields leading the way with seven. let's send it back down to steve and marques. if you're going to beat the number two team in the tournament you need a total team effort. >> marques: they're doing a good job. good point about driving the basketball. first two games they shot 54, the two highest three point attempts of the year with this team. you can see johnny dawkins is getting a concerted effort. can move the ball out first, get the zone to switch or get a matchup like, drive it to the rim. >> steve: are you more impressed with stanford's offense or their defense? >> marques: defense without question. containment, passing type of defense. they are attacking, trying to force turnovers and they've done a nice job. get up there and swat it out of there.

2003. four years ago or again surprised, 84-73. >> marques: which was a surprise. now stanford trying to add their names to that list. doing a great job. i question whether or not they will be able to sustain, not so much sustained but even to start the second half after they had a 22-12 lead in that first half. arizona state battles back. they're down one at halftime. i didn't know stanford would have that fight left, but credit the coaching staff. they got this team mentally prepared for the second half and they played even harder in the second half than they did in the first half. >> steve: boateng, because he got some blood on him, had to change his jersey, so he's wearing number 34 and it looks like a jersey that you might buy in a souvenir stand. doesn't look like it fits him.
