grace son community college last year as a junior. was the lead-off hitter through much of the second half of the season. and led the kings in doubles and stolen bases. also hit .333. his second year as a university of miami player. 1-2 pitch in the dirt. the runner devoss threatens but restreets to the bag. >> lawson one of those players that should expect to pray at the next level. a valuable guy. he knows how to play off positions in the infield. a guy you could put him at 1st base, shortstop, second bat. he handles the bat well. he is the kind of guy you could see mailing in the major league. they are just a great ballplayer at the college level, i would expect to see

him play at the next level as well. >> jason: the 2-2 pitch. curve ball. misses high and in time. the count runs full. and again a big pitch coming -- coming up to lawson with grandal on deck, miami's most dangerous hitter. cooney will try to bear down as he looks into the sign of mike lubanski. checks the runner to boss and comes home. curve ball swung on. the 1st baseman, it rolls into the right field. that will score devoss. a hit and in there is lawson. and once again the a run. >> that's another run run that is going to score. all three runs have scored. we do have one-base hit in the game, as we mentioned.
8:02 pm
frankie ratcliff. that didn't really do much. lopez, that 1st base came up a little too soon. take a look. this is a well hit ball by matt lawson -- scott lawson as he throws that ball to the 1st baseman. lawson doing a good job of hustling in getting to 2nd base. now another stolen base for the hurricanes. they are starting to apply some pressure gentleman ur right, wicho. you can feel the hurricanes really trying to put the foot if the throat of wake forest and really exploit every mistake. and grandal can do that as well as he gets way out in front of it. to the shortstop blair. a manufactured run for the hurricanes thanks to the error by lopez and the stolen base.
8:03 pm
the hurricanes now lead to 4-1. >> you talked about it during that 1st inning, that this is a different hurricane ball club. even though they have had quite a bit of multihit base games coming into the ballgame today this is a team that has to manufacture runs. this sa great example of how they do it tonight. that's four runs now. and a lot of it is because of stolen bases and three errors on the board by wake forest. >> jason: four runs on just one hit. and the hit really irrelevant to the scope of things. it was a 2-out single by frankie ratcliff, who was caught stealing to end the second. past the 3rd baseman kroker and into left field and gets past the left fielder semeniuk. and allows martinez to take 2nd base easily. harold martinez there. and the s are piling up for wake forest. an unbelievable development here defensively for the demon deacons as martinez on at 2nd

base. we'll see if that costs wake forest right under the wickets in the 5-hole in hockey terms. for rhine semeniuk four errors tonight for wake forest. >> semeniuk lifts his head a little too soon. with all these baseball fields going to these different cuts, you see the grass. you get a shot of the field from behind the plate. you see the grass is cut differently. the ball will play a little bit as it goes out there. nothing that really causes much change. if you are an outfielder and you lift your head a little too soon, you will have that ball dance on you and it will go through the wick ettes as you saw there. another error, fourth one in the ballgame. gee three errors in this inning for wake forest. 3rd baseman stroker. 1st baseman lopez and the left fielder semeniuk all involved. making life that much more difficult for the freshman tim
8:05 pm
cooney. cooney faces chris pelaez now. fastball, a beauty on the outside corner. >> tim cooney actually has not had the best control on the night. >> jason: swung on. well hit to center field. steven brooks on the run. will he catch up to it? el. back peddling to center field to bring it in. a nice job by steven brooks defensively. really couldn't say that for his teamnates in the inning with three errors. the hurricanes score one

the hurricanes' head coach jason morrison. as we see this team develop certainly the style offensively featuring a lot more base running aggressively, a lot more base stealing. talk about how this team is developing offensively, the style you are putting to the. >> i can't hear your question. i just heard the very end of that. well, i think, you know, you think we just took advantage of their mistakes, basically, and put

make in your life. i remember when he came the pitching coach here at the university of miami it was the year he was really knocking on the door at triple-a, possibly making it to the big leagues d with the hurricanes in the mid 90s. left the program was the all time leader in wins with 43 in starts with 72. just like the guy he is monitoring right now, eric

erickson. the guy who made an immediate impact as a freshman. gen lubanski fouls it off. he left in ' 97 and began made his way from pitsville to capital city to saint lucy up the road here. both norfolk and new orleans and triple-a before deciding to turn to this here in coral gables. swing and a miss by lube anski. >> one of the things that no one will talk about j. d now, when he came into the program he was actually one of the better hitting pitchers in miami dade as a high school baseball player. he was a great hitter. back then you didn't see as many two-way players as you do now with the rosters being so limited. j. d. gave up the bat to become a pitcher here. take a look right here. look at the location on that pitch.

e losses against fifth ranked gaters early in the year. so this is a team that does have a couple of losses sprinkled in there that you would expect the hurricanes to win. >> jason: high towering fly over towards the hurricane bullpen area. the demon deacons get chased with all -- the ball falls harmlessly between the likes of lopez, rhine, and williamson. >> it looked like lopez wanted no part of that fly ball. he actually overran it.
8:24 pm
it's just ammossinging how baseball works. you have a guy playing out of position: it always seems the ball finds that player. count 3-2 for villasuso. frankie ratcliff waits on deck for the hurricanes. cooney's pitch is lifted to left field, and the second straight opportunity for ryan semeniuk. he is going right by. in fact, after tonight we show the hurricanes played 26 games with only 28 left. after tuesday, after this point that game tucson the road. up the highway against fau and then right back here at home are the hurricanes against the saint owls team. it will be three games in just

about a week's time against florida atlanta. a team the hurricanes beat here at home this past wednesday night 12-5. here's the hurricane's 2nd base man frankie ratliff. >> jason, once the ncaa went to that later schedule, of course baseball, the first game this year was february 19th. historically the canes would start? mid january. this time of year in april you would normally see weekend series. that's pretty much it. but we still have a lot of week games yet. so throughout the season up until the very end you are going to have quite a few mid- week games to make sure they get those games in in a
8:26 pm
condensed schedule that they put together for the ncaa. >> jason: and you get the impression that jason morris realizes that he does have a verile talented team this year and a good mix of speed and power offensively as the veterans like, you know, monty grandal and scott lawson if the middle of the line any favors. >> they put another error on the board. the fifth one now. even though i thought ratcliff would have beat that out as well. it might be one you might want to reconsider. but five errors on the board

take a good look at hernandez there. >> jason: hernandez has four wins this year an e.r.a. of .245. stolen base this stolen base. >> good speed there by ratcliff. these hurricanes are just playing now. looks like they might have picked up the read on the pitcher cooney. >> jason: might be trying to put a 2-out rally here against tim cooney in the bottom half of the further inning. cooney paying attention to the baserunner ratcliff. miami has been aggressive

tonight. 2nd baseman rhine over to the bag. 1-1 pitch to zeke devoss is going away. >> one of the advantages of the speed is you have the 2nd base man mark rhine, even though there is two outs on the board, he is cheating way up the middinging to try to keep the runner close to 2nd base. you see the hole on the right side of the infield. any groundball there should be able to knock in the run. >> jason: the ball swings late and that one will be fouled. the hurricanes six stolen bases already tonight. jason morris not afraid to try to steal 3rd either. you saw scott lawson do it. stephen perez also stole 3rd back in the 1st inning and would score. ratcliff not going. that one is chop fouled on the
