>> we're getting you ready for the capital dollars and the penguins playing tonight. but we begin with the official introduction of donovan mcnabb today at redskins park. he met the media and fans as the newest redskin for about 25 minutes, the team's new quarterback answered questions alongside head coach mike shanahan. let's go live to ashburn, virginia where kelli johnson is standing by covering the press conference. i know you said that things were all buzz out there yesterday. i imagine the excitement today got notched up a level. >> reporter: it was absolutely crazy out here, probably biggest press conference i've seen in six years of covering the team. donovan mcnabb has the presence about him that fills a room. he's confident but not ar gant. he's a natural born leader and
6:32 pm
he continuing solicited the attention back to him -- back from himself to the team. winning a championship that brought mcnabb to washington d.c. >> it feels like -- it feels like being drafted again. you've been selected by a team and you're going through the motions of learning a new play and being here with the guys and working out. so it kneels like i'm back 22 again. the body may not respond that way. but when the trade was done, i went back to when i don't know played and jay was here and the things that they were able to do in the offense. and it starts with the run game. i know probably a lot of you come from philly don't know
6:33 pm
much about that part of the run game. we will run the ball here. these guys had an opportuni to d talk about a packed house. you know you're a big deal when
6:34 pm
hall of famer art money being -- munch showed up. this after working out with donovan this morning. number five was one of the first players in the wet room and he set the tone immediately. >> he came out running around good. he did a really good job, coming here and he just flew in yesterday and be there at 7:30 and do drills and running around, i thought that was a good thing for him to show his leadership right away. >> he leads by example. it's like when shanahan took over the team. >> donovan started to talk about bringing the atmosphere many where guys know they're going to win game and they know they're going to have the
6:35 pm
chance to win games. he's a confident guy. he knows what he can do. and i think that will be a factor in our huddle in our locker room. >> reporter: the players also continued to compress mixed emotions because of jason campbell that has given so much to the organization and gotten very little in return. even donovan said that he felt bad about the situation. mike shanahan said that after meeting with jason yesterday, the team is open to doing whatever they can go to a new team. >> jason was very candid. he asked me if i would allow him to have the opportunity to past april 15th to look for a starting job the nfl in a told him definitely. we'll give him the opportunity to look for a team before the draft. we'll wait and see. >> i called him and just let him know that this wasn't one of my plans of coming to try to
6:36 pm
take his spot. race son is a great guy and hard worker. and i told him, the sky is the limit for you. continue to are your head high. every now and then through live you go through adversities. this is another hurdle. you'll be able to go over it and continue walking down the path that god set for us. >> reporter: cam people could get traded and he could still return at mcnabb's backup. and the redskins paraded sam bradford and cold mccoy through the park today. and shanahan told me in and ideal world you want to be able to draft a quarterback and develop him for a couple years before they ask to start so who knows. perhaps another quarterback could be on his way to res skins park. >> we've been hearing conflicting reports lately about the contract extension. is it getting done? is it not getting done? what are you hearing from
6:37 pm
mcnabb? >> reporter: i think both sides want to get it done. i talked to mcnabb's agent and he said as of right now discussions have not begun. they are not talking at this point. no numbers are being exchanged. it's just an idea that is out there and i think both sides agree that it should happen. >> so you mentioned that mcnabb was working out with the guys at 7:30 a.m. on the opposite side of the spectrum you have a guy like haynes worth that has not worked out with the team in the voluntary workouts and now the team may be exploring a trade for him as well. tell me about that. >> reporter: there's a lot of rumors being buzzed around albert haynesworth. he was one of the guys that they actually threw at the eagles as a possible deal for mcnabb. philadelphia was not interested at all. and now they've paid 21 million recently over 30 million guaranteed money in the last
6:38 pm
year that he's been here. from who i'm hearing, mike shanahan is not a big fan of haynesworth and he did not get off on the right foot and he said i'm going to do my own thing and he left. but he wants him to be here. so you know, he doesn't have the best reputation around the league. he didn't have a great season last year. he wasn't in shape. and who knows what is possible. the redskins could deal albert haynes worth if they can find a taker. and tennessee might be the only team that might be interested in bringing him back. >> that will be interesting to watch. thanks again. donovan mcnabb one of the most complete quarterbacks in nfl history. one of four guys with 30,000 passing yards, 200 passing touchdowns and 3,000 rushing yards. the other three all in the hall
6:39 pm
of fame. joining me now are nfl analyst. donovan mcnabb on board, how much better are the redskins right now? can you consider them a favor in the nfc east? >> i'm not going to go that far. but i think the team is much better because you have a quarterback now who has the experience. he's been around and he's a veteran. so i think he's made it a better team because of that but to say they're a favorite to win the east would be a stretch. >> do theft horses to get there. does donovan have to make them better? >> i think he z he knows he's a coach's guy. he's a guy with the experience and suck says. there's no one on the team with more success than him. all three of the running backs, albeit getting a bit older, the tandem of these three guys can
6:40 pm
be reeffective. santana moss, we know what he can do. i think those three guys and the three running backs could be effective. >> who benefits the most with mcnabb on the team? >>i think the six guys i just ted but i think chris coolly donovan throws the ball to the tight end very often. the tight end will get at ball a lot. we've got tons more coverage on donovan mcnabb and the redskins. in five minutes, kelli johnson goes one-on-one of the new quarterback of the burgundy and gold. in many things can up stage a capitals -- penguins game. but that's what happened for half the day tonight. but they'll renew their rival rye tonight in pittsburgh. and the capitals have a chance
6:41 pm
to swing the season series for the first time in history. less than a minute later, nicklas backstrom ripped one past johnson. and the caps win 6-3. alexander ovechkin tied the game in this game in the third period with his third of the game for the hat trick. and in overtime, alexander ovechkin shot tipped in by one mike kanuble. and mike the hero again and he wins it for the caps in a shootout. theodore shut the door and the caps scored three straight times to win t but the game was close. and bruce boudreau doesn't think they have pittsburgh's number. >> of course i don't think we're better than the pen twins. they're the stanley cup
6:42 pm
champions and they're the team to beat. every game, you're looking at 3- 0 and i'm looking at three slow close games. >> both teams usually bring their best this these kinds of games and they're intense this time of the year and this one being so late in the season. i'm sure both teams want to get the most out of it. it's been really close match games. and i expect the same thing here tonight. caps and pens face off at 7:30. catch all the action on our sister network. coming up, we'll tell you who you is paired with tiger woods for the first round of the masters. chick hernandez joins us live from augusta with the latest. kelli johnson goes one-on- one with the new leader of the redskins who has a clear vision how the franchise can turn things around. >> it starts with team. guys to rely on each other and have confidence that the guy next to them is going to do their job.

the hot topic, donovan mcnabb johning the redskins. kelli johnson chatted with the new quarterback and she has our inside access. >> reporter: you, like everyone else, didn't really believe it when the trade happened. in your wildest dreams, did you ever imagine putting on a redskins uniform in. >> i didn't think i was going
6:46 pm
to put on any other uniform. but we know the situation in the nfl and what can happen with the whole process. being traded to a great organization and excellent fan base. the fans here are outstanding. they're behind their team. they're passionate. and as players, you want to provide that excitement for them and i look forward to doing that with the fans out here. >> reporter: you mentioned all the rumors and the speculation where you wanted to go, was washington a team that you said, yeah, let's talk about that? >> it want a process in which i was trying to pick out teams in which i wanted to play for because when you're in a situation like i was of being traded, they could have shipped me anywhere. my mindset i would have been with that organization and give everything that i have with them. and when washington stepped up and andy decided to go along with it, i was excited. i was excited first and foremost, the process is over. i can come in here and work with the team and learn a new offense and build that
6:47 pm
confidence with the guys here and try to bring everybody's confidence out together and gel together. >> reporter: you mentioned john elway that you've been paired to him and that relationship that he had with mike brian shanahan. when he came on -- mike shanahan. when he came on board he was 34 and he won two super bowls. >> anything that can help new this situation is important. the success in which john had making to four super bombs and losing and then being able to go back and win two before he decided to retire, that says a lot. that says a lot about him and about the guys around him and the coaching staff that he was a part of. and with shanahan and his experience, hopefully we can come in and build that chemistry together and achieve that same goal. and now tiger woods. tiger back on the course in augusta as he prepares for thursday's opening round for
6:48 pm
the masters. and after yesterday's time of talking, it's time to talk about play. chick hernandez joins us there live. now we have a playing schedule for tiger and the rest of the field. do we not? >> reporter: yes, we do. and finally we're getting back to normal city as it were. tiger woods did practice again today. he played nine holes with his good friend mark owe mere and an hour after he went to the range and worked out between and then he was released. at 1:42 on thursday. tiger woods will end 144 days of noncompetitive drought and bet back on the course. tee time with matt kutcher and okay jay choi. he said it was a good surprise to hear i was playing with tiger woods. matt kucher and tiger have played together before.
6:49 pm
>> and look. it's tuesday. the tournament doesn't start till thursda what do you do to bridge the gap if you're one of the players? >> reporter: well, if you're a champion like there are several in this field, tonight you get the champions in and hosted by cabrera, the menu five courses of either beef. and tomorrow there's the par three contest that no one wants to win because no winner of the par three has ever won the master. >> but it's fun to watch because you get the players out there with their sons and daughters caddying for them and moms and dads out there. it's a fun thing to watch. the par three car is a different course. where is tt in relation to the course they play the masters on in. >> reporter: it's just to the left of the 18th hole. it's back behind butler cab
6:50 pm
been and back through there. i forget how many holes. it's a nice place. raymond floyd called it quits today said he won't play the masters ever again. he said that he will play the par three because he can reach those greens. >> unfortunate about that. what do you got there? >> reporter: coming up tonight, my conversation with none other than joan daily. he's not playing in the masters, but selling his merchandise.>> usually before the masters the talk is always in the changes of the course. i have not heard anything about the course changes this year. have you? >> reporter: no, no, there have been subtle changes and a lot of the players don't recognize the changes. i think the course itself and how it's playing and how the greens are receptive. they're expecting a little bit of rain on thursday.
