stayed with the breaking ball and got a piece of it. marlyns are beating the mets again, 7-3. atlanta at home, 7-1 over arizona. phillies and milwakee later. 0-2 pitch and guzman slaps it foul. rockies rank 7th in the league defenseively. if there's 6 teams better than these guys, something is wrong. it's just a stat, really. because they have had infield errors. sill still, gonzalez and hawpe.

olivo has been fantastic behind the plate. he's shut down the nats running game. that ball is hit long way to left center. 2 runners are tagging and morgan will score and desmond stops and the nationals lead 1-0. >> guzman on a count of 0-2 is very productive. >> bob: right now, it doesn't look like francis has something to put it away with. good changeup, and about a 90 miles per hour fastball but they are right around the plate. he's going to have to bring it down a little bit. you have to make him come to you. you don't nope what he has because he's coming off an injury and it's been so long since you seen him. make him throw a few pitches. i would assume they are going to be careful with zimmerman here and then you have willingham on

deck. sincecincinnati is the best 2349 league with 15 and -- in the league with 15 and only 23 errors. they are right at the top on defense. that's what has been tough this weekend. >> speaking of cincinnati, they knocked out penny after 5 innings today. they are about to move into 1st place in the central. >> never stepped foot in minor league, coming right out of college and he's 4 and 0. zimmerman is sitting on 99 career homeruns.

zimmerman can't reach that one upstairs. only clocked in the high 80s but up and away for the right-handed batter, 2 outs. outside changeup. fastball right down the plate. he gets it up and away. here's willingham who did a nice job of standing zimmerman up. he's getting ahead with the changeup, bob, on the last 3 headers. willingham hits his last 3 times up on thursday, including a 2-run double, capping off that 8 and that is taken off the plate.

down and in. zimmerman hits righties really well. 3-2 to willingham. that's why he has 25 with walks now on the year. he has a great batting eye. this is the most selective we have ever seen willingham. he's a real free swinger for three or four years and has becomed disciplined at the plate and that will bring up rodriguez who is looking for his first hit in the series.

outfield around to the right. it's interesting, they are playing cat and mouse up the middle with desmond and helton, you see how far off the line he is and helton is trying to steal an extra 5 feet or so off the line at 1st base. that goes to right center and hits it too low and it goes to gonzalez. 2 hits and a walk. ♪ ♪ ♪ [ bell rings ] ♪

francis doesn't have an overpowering fastball. sometimes it's in the low 90s but most of the time, 88 to 90 but it's the big curve ball that's his bread and butter. >> leadoff man that's 7th in the league for rbi. he has it, 10-game hitting streak. youngster took it right up the middle with a lefty lefty matchup. scott needs to go at least 7 today. he's been doing a great job with walks. just over 14 pitches per inning.

fun for tracy. they have willingham and zimmerman they stick in there against the lefties. a lot of people have trouble hitting against lefties. good breaking ball and hawpe fowl tipped it. guzman is in right field. willingham back in there. and gonzalez up the middle and desmond and morris at the right corner across from zimmerman. rodriguez is back in. hawpe is hitting .286 off lefties and .353 off righties. >> bob: 2-2 pitch. gonzalez to demonday, 4, 6, 3 as the nats have a good defensive linemen out there today. hawpe kept him from one double

i don't know why francis is holding so close. >> bob: gonzalez went fishing and tried too hard. he came on the stance and struck out. we talked about all things double. they are 10 and 0 this year, this best in this league. how about that? you get your second room. nationals have a 12-run hitting streak. olsen has sacrificed once. stewart is charging hard from 3rd base. in fact, he's stopping his retreat about 70 feet away.

that's nice to the right side for helton. he kept it away and it goes 3, 4 and nats already on top by 1 after morgan got things going. great table setter and the number 2 is hitting well in this series and guzman manufactures the first of the game. rodriguez lined out hard to center and ended the inning. they have good hacks against francis. here's morgan.

see how tulowitzki turned out. he pulls that one down the left field line and willingham is off the line. that's off the wall for a leadoff double here in the 2nd. tulowitzki breaks it 0 for 7 with that. >> that was off the end of the bat and had it been lower, the ball would have been out of here. but it's a good 2-1 breaking ball down in the zone. tulowitzki didn't get it owl. that will bring up helton. tulowitzki signed his 6-year contract in january of '08. that goes through 2013. so the rockies knew a good thing what they saw it. they have him locked up for a number of years.

i wouldn't mind finds out how cold it is in october. guzman hit into right center if stewart hits into left field and guzman gets a base hit and makes the turn and stops. perfectly placed between 3rd and short. guzman, now, has a 10-game hitting streak you see stewart trying to make a great play. i don't know why because tulowitzki has a fabulous arm and he looked like he was all over that. that's kind of a thank you for him making contact with him for us. guzman is hitting .482 during his hitting streak.
