those of the google old days compared to what happened the last 10 to 15 years in terms of rate cuts, the effective rates for the wealthy has change. this isn't new to us. somebody might look at obama's tax plan and say -- we been writing about this for quite a while. but on a other areas like trade and he regulation, our criticisms -- easy to finger prints of both parties. there's just no doubt about that. you see an awful lot of democrats with the free trade ideas. and by buying, i mean the kind of restrictions, without some oversight to make sure that it's been played properly. same with deregulation. the popular perception is deregulation was ronald reagan. the first two major deregulation acts were under jimmy carter. many democrats supported deregulation. ..

the balance of the society. that is what it stands firm. not in a partisan belief. >> albright, donald barlett, james steele are the authors of this fascinating new book, "the betrayal of the american dream" and both journalists come extraordinary men. but your 70s now?

>> guest: on most. >> host: but at the very top of american journalism and held up as a paragon, this is a truly book. i read it with great in the great interest. the book again is "the betrayal of the american dream." donald barlett, james steele, thank you for joining us. >> guest: thank you. >> guest: you're welcome. >> and you are watching booktv on c-span 2. we are on location in las vegas at freedom fast and as entrepreneur, wayne allyn

root -- allyn root in his book, "the conscience of a libertarian". mr. root, if we start by giving us a quick bio of yourself so people know who's talking. >> guest: appgen automation or at life through at first joseph is based in vegas. i was thinking of vegas for skimming for 25 years before he ever got involved in politics. i guarantee i'm the only person of freedom fest with a star in las vegas. las vegas walk of stars of the people of the world. wayne newton and wayne root and franks are not shut shatt and liberace, interesting crowd. i did into politics at a guarantee of nearly las vegas huffaker to be a vice presidential nominee and a regular on fox news. american sherbet or fox news.com. i write for probably every major

conservative website in the world. my commentary is read by 75 million people and i do about a thousand radio interviews he aired. so i get my political advice and insights and analysis out there every day of the week and my number one thing at this point is america desperately needs offshore. we've got to live sure barack obama. he's got to go. sin into china. >> host: first of all, but if a las vegas oddsmaker? >> guest: and vegas odds makers someone who predicts winner of sporting events. it was a natural outgrowth for me. i went from to get to port games to the winners of political elections. and i think it was 2004, news max at the conservative website that i'll be oddsmaker and pundits in america, the one who got the most accurate prediction was wayne root. i predicted bush by three ponts in 35 electoral votes and he won

by three points and electoral votes. i'm pretty darn good at a gut instinct about the american people are thinking. >> host: when you say gut instinct summary breaking political outs by tommy are looking at a lecture analysis. what are you doing? >> guest: i look at people. the sabres have been predicting sporting events. i'm good at figuring out who's got the edge based on psychology, based on situation, historical or situations based on whether players are up or down psychologically. if either plan this week here at the family about elections. four years ago i spoke to probably 1000 because i was the vp nominee. many, many hundreds of thousands of small-business people. normally it's overwhelmingly conservative. four years ago, half the people i spoke to on small businesses that want to give obama a chance. so i made a prediction that,
1:06 pm
would win the election easily. for your site or if i have at least a thousand small business people in constant contact me, not one of them is supporting obama. not one. at at that different a small-business person who thinks obama is doing a good job. and predicted it now for the last monday a landslide. i'm one of the few people who predicts a row in a landslide the size of reason over carter and i think it will be the same reason. how can any human being with a great walk into the voting booth on november 6 in us the following question. number one, i better off than four years ago at number two, could we take a chance in former years of this guy barack obama. your answer has to be no. >> and "the conscience of a libertarian" you read about entrepreneurs and small businesses. for the group to pay for others to live the american dream. we worked long hours and pay the taxes that allow government to
1:07 pm
hire all the unnecessary government employees, pay for their pensions and keep expanding government programs. we may dislike government, but ironically we pay for it all. just go and i'm very proud of not just those words, but the main point of that book was our country is going bankrupt. this is four years ago written in november and december 2008 after the election and finished in january before obama put his hands on the bible. he was my college classmate, by the way clerics nobody remembers him. i never met him, saw him are effeminate up a single classmate who met, heard or saw more than a fat and a classroom with him. he's the manchurian candidate. something is wrong. scandalous summer obama was born. it's where he went to college. i knew everyone at columbia, never met him. i have real feelings of doubt as to what his story is that columbia. i'm just telling you, there's something there.
1:08 pm
i predicted this book that obama would support unions above all other human beings in america. he would support government employee unions above all americans. he would hand to his contributors four his contributors. he would support all the democratic contributors a stimulus that would bankrupt united states of america and that is exactly what happened. that prediction was made before ever put his hand on the bible. he's done everything i would say he would do. it's a purposeful attempt. there were two professors who have left and we got there. cloward and and pippin, the only two guys to ever talk about this. aside from the beginning, they had a theory. in order to destroy this country without capitalism and turned her socialist nation you have to elect someone who's willing to cut his afro or ponytail come upon a gorgeous outside, kiss babies can have a big smile,
1:09 pm
tell everyone he's a uniter, not divider and how fair he is and how he wants to help the middle class and then overwhelm the system with that can't explode the system with debt and entitlement to get everyone to their knees, taking the government to save them. every step of the way. watch it. that's exactly what barack obama has done. he's pulled off in front of the whole nation on a stop to. i've been saying every step of the way. >> host: wayne allyn root, is a libertarian different than conservative? >> guest: yeah, they are more tolerant on social issues. what difference does that make you feel has gay marriage if you are gay and unemployed. what difference doesn't make if you're black or hispanic and if you like a guy in the white house is good for you if you're unemployed? the answer is what matters is jobs. jobs and the economy. i.d. for every masher standard, obama is a failure.
1:10 pm
back to libertarians. republicans had their chance. the only guy i can think of in my lifetime is obama appears to a back-to-back institute when this president. the differences among supported capitalism. that is the difference and of course the socialist obama. libertarians have not caused any problems. you can't blame us for the hundred trillion dollars debt. you can't blame us for every problem emanating out of washington d.c. you see in this book again we've pointed out disasters. what i said in this book is just look at california. a set of four years ago, california is greece. it will go bankrupt. it's done. stick a fork in it all came true. i said while? because the bombers practicing the california model for the entire nation and that is what is happening to the country and that's why there are no jobs. in the end, my father the butcher had it right.
1:11 pm
my father the blue-collar butchers at sun, i'd love to hate rich people, but nobody poor has never given me a job. in the end if you demonize and target and hunt and punish rich people and denigrate them all day, though go on strike. they're not going to create jobs, not going to make you money and pay taxes. they're going to leave the country. who let the country this week after the paper for years? at denise rich, the biggest democratic contributor for all these years left the country and is now an austrian citizen. who left months ago? edward severin, the guy who cofounded facebook, and other liberal bleeding heart who left his billions of dollars in its singapore resident. these are the people obama likes in the running from him. features shows do, no one will be left if he's reelected. >> host: you write and "the conscience of a libertarian" that government should be stripped of the power to ban anything that is voluntary. >> guest: back to the
1:12 pm
libertarian difference. we don't believe government has the right to tell you what to do and how to live your life. i am a guy who anyone watching will say wow, what a conservative. what a constitutional conservative and yet when it comes to abortion and all the social issues, i don't want government involved. it's hypocritical to say you're against big government is that government should tell women what to do. give wichita gamblers they can't get while the internet and tell people they can't get married. they should stay out of everyone's batterman everybody follow. that is my philosophy. let them alone to live their lives and make their mistakes. >> host: two of your heroes are presidents reagan and winston churchill. hope you wanted them? >> guest: by the way, barry goldwater. more of a quiet hero and well known, but it wouldn't have been a reagan without a goldwater. i named my third child, remington reagan route after my
1:13 pm
hear what i think every day i'm out there fighting for smaller government. reagan's most famous status than nine worst words in the english language, i'm from the government and i'm here to help. i honor him every day by fighting for smaller government and lower taxes and by the way, that is my single biggest philosophy. it isn't ready for the american people to keep more of their own money. the definition is to ask government to steal from a guy working and give it to you who is not working. that's great and someone has to be willing to say on national tv. entrepreneurs work longer hours. entrepreneurs don't have jobs that government employees. we don't get summers off, we can thought. i answer e-mails on my birthday, i only work eight hours a day set of mutual 16. i deserve my money. i worked for my money. i earned my money and i create jobs and invest and pay taxes
1:14 pm
and they make america go with my money. i am not a timid republican. i'm proud to tell america that people that make the money deserve to keep more of their own money. they earned it. they're what make this the greatest country in world history and they are the ones being targeted in the hunted, and punished by barack obama. that's what is wrong with the american economy right now. >> host: you fail to mention a manger for first child after winston churchill. >> guest: i did. i have to be jewish by birth and winston churchill saved the world from adolf hitler. kept england excited that they could beat the british against all odds and they had no chance in the battle of britain. if you know the history and i'm an historian. yesterday the great leaders and generals and presidents. winston churchill, the odds of britain was zero, but he kept the british people excited and enthusiastic and faithful that
