president obama announced new efforts to end subsidies for chinese auto parts exports at a campaign stop in cincinnati. the romney campaign has been accusing the president of not doing enough to stem the flow of manufacturing jobs to china. the president's remarks are about 35 minutes. ♪ ♪ [applause] ♪ jericho. >> hello cincinnati! thank you. [applause] >> thank you. thank you. thank you so much. it is good -- it is good to be back in cincinnati. [cheering] it is good to be in ohio, it is great to be in this beautiful setting. you know, it seems like we should have a picnic. [applause] who has got the chicken?

love chicken, love potato salad, baked beans. who said beer? it is beautiful. can everybody please give andrew a great round of applause for that wonderful introduction. wasn't a great? tirico. [applause] now let me say first of all, we could not be prouder of andrew's service to our country as a veteran. we are grateful to him. obviously we are very proud of the work he is doing and the work he does with his union but the thing i am most proud of is the fact that he has got triplets and he is still standing. [applause] i had a chance to meet his wonderful wife and -- that's serious. you cannot play man-to-man defense. you have to go into a zone.

we are very proud of him and we also have your outstanding mayor, mark mallory is in the house. [cheering] and it is great to see all of you. thank you. thank you. now, you may have heard that there is an election going on. [cheering] and over the past couple of weeks, each site has been able to make its case and we had a big thing in tampa and we had our thing in charlotte. and now, just 15 days from now, ohio, starting on october 2, you guys can start voting and you have got a big choice to make.

i honestly, i honestly believe it's the clearest choice of any time in a generation. it's not just between two candidates or two political parties but it's a choice between two fundamentally different visions for how we move forward in this country. and our vision, our fight is for that asic the greatest middle class on earth and the strongest economy the world has ever known. to bargain this is if you work hard, that hard work will pay off. that responsibility will be rewarded, that everybody should get a fair shot, everybody should do their fair share. everybody should play by the same rules from main street to wall street to washington d.c.. [applause] and four years ago i ran for president and i saw that basic

organ eroding. too many jobs getting shipped overseas, too many families who are struggling from everything to groceries to gas to college to health care, racking up more and more deaths just to keep up with expenses because paychecks weren't going up the way costs were. and then because of that debt, it made things that much harder and when the house of cards collapsed in the worst recession since the great depression, we saw millions of americans lose their jobs, homes, life savings and we are still fighting to recover from that. now the other side are more than happy to talk about what they think is wrong with america. they won't tell you how it started. but they are happy, they are happy to talk about what is wrong. they don't do much to tell you

what they are going to do to make it right. they want your promotion but they don't want to tell you their plan and the reason because the plan they have got is the same one that they have been offering for decades. tax cuts, tax cuts. tax cuts in good times, tax -- tax cuts when we are at peace, tax cuts when we are at war. if you want to make a restaurant reservation or book a flight you don't need to do it through the iphone. tried tax cuts. [laughter] if you want to drop a few extra pounds, tried tax cut. they have got one answer for everything. now, i have cut taxes too.

for the folks who need it. [cheers and applause] middle-class families, you are paying about $3600 less in federal taxes since i have been president. i cut taxes for the middle middle-class but a promise. small businesses i cut back 18 separate times. but i don't think another round of tax breaks for millionaires will bring good jobs back to ohio or pay down our deficit. i sure don't believe firing teachers or taking students out of financial aid will help grow our economy or compete with countries like china that are producing engineers and scientists. after all that we have been through does anybody actually believe that rolling back regulations on wall street are somehow going to help the small business woman in cincinnati expand or the construction worker who has been laid off?

let me tell you, we have been there. we have tried that. we are not going back. we are not going back. we are not going back to trickle down. we are not going back to top down, you are on your own economics. we are not going to tell folks that you are on your own because we believe we are all in this together. we don't think the economy grows from the top down. we think it grows from middle out, from a strong middle-class a strong working family. when people are doing well in the middle, then everybody does well. what happens when you have more money in your pocket? you spend it and that means businesses have more customers and that means they make more profits and they hire more workers. and we get a virtual cycle going

on. going forward. we are not going back. we are moving forward. that is what this election is about. [cheers and applause] [applause] i want you to know, i have never promised the path we are on is going to be quick or easy. as bill clinton reminded us that the convention, it's going to take more than a few years to solve challenges that have built up over decades. but let me tell you something, i know we will get there. when i hear some of these folks from the other party talk about a nation in decline, they are dead wrong. we have still got the best workers in the world. we have got the best entrepreneurs, the best businesses in the world. we have got the best scientists and researchers in the world. we have got the best colleges and universities in the world.

there is not a country on earth that would trade places with the united states of america. our problems can be solved in our challenges can be met. the path we offer may be harder but it leads to a better place. i am asking you to choose that future. i'm asking you to rally around a set of goals that create new manufacturing jobs here in ohio. that build on what we have already done, to create a new energy strategy for america. building on what we have already done to improve education and break down our -- and turn the page on a decade of war. that is what we can do in the next four years, cincinnati. that is why i'm running for a second term as president of the united states of america. [cheers and applause] [applause]

[chanting] >> now i want everybody to be clear the goals we set our concrete and they are achievable. the first part of the plan is to export more products and outsourced cheaper jobs. after a decade of decline, this country has created a half-million new manufacturing jobs in the last two and half years. a whole lot of them here in ohio. when some of these other folks said we should let detroit go bankrupt, when they said we should walk away from an industry that supports one in eight jobs in ohio, i said we are not going to go that way. i said american workers in and three years later the american auto industry has come roaring back with nearly 250,000 jobs.

[applause] now you have got a choice. we can give more tax breaks to corporations that ship jobs overseas, or we can start rewarding corporations and companies for opening up new plans and planning new workers and bringing new jobs right here in ohio, right here in the united states of america, right here. [applause] now, i understand my opponent has been running around ohio claiming, don't -- , vote. but he has been running around claiming he is going to roll up his sleeves and take the fight to china. now, here is the thing.

his experience has been owning companies that were call pioneers in the business of outsourcing jobs to countries like china. he made money, investing in companies that uprooted from here and went to china. pioneers. now you can't stand up to china when all you have done is send them our jobs. you can talk a good game, but i like to walk the walk, not just talk the talk. [applause] and my experience has been waking up every single day and doing everything i can to make sure american workers get a fair shot in the local economy.

when other countries don't play by the rules, we have done something about it. we have wrought more trade cases against china in one term than the previous administration did in to. and every case we brought that has been decided we have one. when governor romney says that stopping unfair searches in chinese tires would be bad for america, bad for our workers, we ignored his advice and we got over 1000 americans back to work creating tires right here in the united states of america. [applause] earlier this year i set up a new task force to go after unfair trade practices that harm our workers and it has already delivered. two months ago we moved to hold china accountable for unfair

trade practices that harm the american automakers. today, mike administration brought a new action against china, this one against subsidies that encourage companies to ship item manufacturing jobs overseas. these are subsidies that directly harm working men and women on the assembly lines in ohio, michigan and across the midwest. your senators sherrod brown has worked harder than anybody to stop this and we are going to stop it. it is not right. it is against the rules and we will not let it stand. [applause] american workers build better products than anybody. made in america means something. by candor said when the playing field is level america will always win. but you know when we needed folks who actually walk the walk and not just --

wean don't need folks whose during election time suddenly are worrying about trade practices. but before the election taking advantage of unfair trade practices. in ohio if you stand with me, and you choose the path we are talking about, we are going to help big factories and small businesses, double their exports and we will sell more around the world stamped made in america and we will create 1 million new manufacturing jobs in the next four years. we can do that, but i need your help to move forward. [cheers and applause] now, that is not all we are going to have to do to rebuild our economy. we have got to train our workers in good jobs. that is why the second part of my plan is to give more americans a chance the chance to earn the skills they need to do

this. education is the gateway of opportunity for me and the gateway of opportunity for michelle and the gateway of opportunity for a lot of people. and her right now, he is studying to get his degree, and with some help by pell grants that we have expanded, because he understands even though he is doing well now, we constantly have to build up our skills. it's the gateway to a middle-class life. today millions of students are paying less for college because we finally took on assistance using banks and lenders as middlemen. we said let's give the money directly to students and we have been able to help millions of more young people get an education. [applause] so now you have got a choice. the other side, if you look at their budget they are proposing to gut education, just to pay for more tax breaks for the wealthy.

that is one path. i am offering a different path. we can decide that the united states of america, no child should have their dreams deferred because of an overcrowded classroom or a public school. no family should have to set aside a college of substance letter because they can afford it. no company should have to look for workers in china because they couldn't find any with the right skills here in the united states of america. so, cincinnati i am asking you to help me recruit 100,000 new math and science teachers and improve early childhood education. let's help get 2 million workers a chance to learn the skills they need at community colleges that will lead directly to a job. let's work with colleges and universities to keep tuition down, cut in half over the next

10 years. we can meet those goals together and that is the future we can choose. another thing, i've got a plan to control more of our own energy. after 30 years of inaction, we raise fuel efficiency standards set by the middle of the next decade your car or truck will get twice, it will go twice as far on a gallon of gas. that will save you money. that helps national security. and it helps our environment. [applause] we have double the amount of renewable energy we generate from wind and solar and thousands of americans including here in ohio have jobs today building wind turbines, long-lasting batteries. we are less dependent on foreign oil than in any time in the last two years. [applause] now you have got a choice. and we can plan to reverse this good process or one that builds

up because as long as i'm president i'm not going to let oil companies write this country's energy plan and $4 billion in taxpayer-funded corporate welfare. we have got a better plan. we will keep on investing in wind and solar, clean coal technology. we will invest to help farmers and scientists harnessed no i'll fused to power our cars and our trucks. let's put construction workers back to work rebuilding our homes and our factories so they waste less energy. and we have got to develop a nearly 100 year supply of natural gas right beneath our feet. we can do it in a way that is safe and if you choose this path we can cut our oil imports in half by 2020 and weekend support 600,000 new jobs in natural gas alone. that is the plan for the future.

it's not a plan looking backwards. [cheers and applause. number four, we are going to reduce our deficit without sticking it to the middle-class. [applause] i put forward a plan that will reduce our deficit by $4 trillion he don't have to take my word for. independent analysis have looked at it. i appreciate that but it's the case -- not just in case you are skeptical, we have actually got real numbers behind us. i have worked with republicans in congress and have already cut $1 trillion in spending and we are willing to do more. i don't want a government that is wasting money. it's got to be lean and it's got to be mean and make sure that it's focused on the people that are working hard but need a ladder up. it's got to be focused on doing the things that help us grow and

there are programs that don't work. we have got to admit that. i want to reform the tax code so it's simple to understand. i've actually done my own taxes. i don't know about some of these other folks but i have done them. [cheers and applause] so i know, i know we can make it more simple and more fair, but i also think we have to ask the wealthiest households to pay a little bit more on incomes over $250,000, the same rate we had when bill clinton was president, the same rate we had when the economy created nearly 23 million new jobs, the biggest surplus in history and we helped a lot of millionaires to boot. remember why, because we are helping middle-class families, what happens? you spend the money. middle out, not top-down.

now, it is -- in fairness my opponent has a plan too when it comes to taxes. but, as president clinton pointed out there is one thing missing from it. arithmetic. arithmetic. [applause] you know, they talk about, they say the most important thing we have to do is reduce the deficit, right? that is what they are saying. then the first thing they do is to spend trillions of dollars more on tax breaks for the wealthy. not just the bush tax cuts but on top of the bush tax cuts, five chilean dollars more so they must have skipped math class when they were in school. that math does not add up. and whenever you ask someone to explain the plan, they won't. they won't say how they pay for

$5 trillion in new tax cuts. i understand how much $5 trillion is. i know sometimes millions and trillions gets all mixed up by $5 trillion over 10 years means $500 billion every year. 500 william dollars is about the amount of our entire defense budget. everything we spend on our military, everything, planes, carriers. it's about $500 billion they say they will give an equivalent to our entire defense budget every single year. that they can't tell you how they are going to pay for it. and the truth is they can't pay for it without raising taxes on middle-class families. but then on top of that they'd

want to spend another $2 trillion in military spending, they say without adding to the deficit but they don't tell you how they are going to do that. the only thing they can do is to keep trying to bluff their way through until november and hope that you won't call them on it. but understand cincinnati, luck, i want to work with them to reduce the deficit. i have said you know if the republicans need more love, if they want me to walk the dog or wash their car, i am happy to do it. and you know, i genuinely believe that most americans, democrats or republicans, they just want us to solve problems. so, i am ready and willing to work, but i refuse to ask

middle-class families to pay over $2000 more so that millionaires and billionaires will pay less. [applause] i refuse, i refuse to cut clean energy investments worth 125,000 clean energy jobs here in ohio at risk just to give me a tax cut or romney a tax cut. i refuse to ask more than 350,000 ohio students to pay more for college or to take children out of headstart programs or eliminate health insurance for millions of americans who are poor or elderly or disabled, just to pay for a tax cut for wealthy folks who don't need it. [applause] and i will never turn medicare into a voucher. [applause]

you know, folks who have worked hard their whole lives, they should be spending their golden years -- shouldn't be spending their years at the mercy of an insurance company. yes we have to reform and strengthen medicare and the long-haul but we are going to do it by reducing the cost of health care, not by dumping the cost on to seniors. [applause] the same thing with social security. we will keep the promise of social security by taking responsible steps to strengthen that but we are not going to turn it over to wall street. [applause] now, rebuilding our economy but are prosperity at home is linked to our policies abroad and current events, the events of the past week obviously remind us of that. four years ago i promised to end the war in iraq and we did.

[cheers and applause] i said it's time for us to start winding down the war in afghanistan, and we are. we have got a new tower rising above the new york skyline even as al qaeda is on the path to defeat and osama bin laden is dead. [applause] but what happens this past week underscores that we still have threats in the world. we can't just pull that. we have to stay engaged and involved for our security. we have also got to remain vigilant. that is why as long as i'm commander-in-chief we will always have the strongest military the world has ever known. [applause] we will do what is required to keep our personal safe around the world and when our troops come home, when they take off their uniform, we will serve

them as well as they have served us. because in america, no one should, no one who has fought for this country should have to fight for a job or a roof over their heads when they come home. [applause] but again here you have got a choice too because my opponent said it was tragic for me to end the war in iraq. he still won't tell us how he is going to end the war in afghanistan. and while he wants to spend more money on military programs that are joint chiefs say won't keep us safer, i will use that money that we are no longer spending on the war to pay down our debt and to put more people back to work, rebuilding some of these bridges around cincinnati. [cheers and applause. rebuilding schools and runways. after a decade of war is done we need some nation building here at home.

[cheers and applause. cincinnati that is the choice you make. that is what this election comes down to. 15 days and he you will start making that choice. you know, over and over again we have been told by our opponent, their way is the only way. government can't do anything and it should do almost nothing. if you can't afford health insurance, hope you don't get sick. if if you have a company that is polluting the air your children breathe, well that is the price of progress. if you can afford to start a business. to college, arles money from your parents. don't vote dashed don't move, faux. do you know what? that is not who we are. that is not what this country is

about. as americans we insist on personal responsibility. we insist on individual initiatives. we are going to help folks who are not trying to help themselves. nobody's entitled to success. you have got to earn it. we believe in somebody who is out there starting a business, the strivers and the dreamers and the risktakers. they drive our economy. that is what we believe in, the free enterprise system but greatest engine of growth and prosperity the world has ever known but we also believe in this country as citizens we have an obligation to each other and our future generations. as citizens we understand america's not just what can be done for us but what can be done by us together as one nation, as one people. [applause] and all of you understand that.

the election four years ago was not about me. it was about all of you. it was about us. you are the reason that there is a cancer survivor and medina are a health care plan that covers preexisting conditions. you made that happen. you are the reason a factory worker in toledo who lost his job is back on the line building some of the best cars in the world. you did that. you are the reason that young man in columbus whose mother worked three jobs to raise him can finally afford to go to college. that is because if you. [applause] you are the reason that a young immigrant who grew up here and went to school will no longer be deported from the only country he has ever called home. you are the reason we ended "don't ask don't tell." you are the reason that thousands of families around this country are able to say to the ones who bravely serve,

welcome home. you made that happen. [applause] so cincinnati you can't turn back now. if you buy into the present system that says change is impossible, then change doesn't happen. if you give up on the idea that your voice matters, then somebody else fills the void. the folks that are writing the 10 million-dollar checks, trying to buy this election. the folks who are trying to make it harder for you to vote. washington politicians who want to make the decisions for you about who you can marry and want to tell women they can't make their own health care decisions. that is who will fill the void. [cheers and applause. only you can make sure that doesn't happen. only you can keep this country moving forward. it depends on you. it depends on you. you have got to register to vote

before october 9. it depends on you to start showing up in voting october 2. if you don't know how to do it, then right here, look at the. you have got to vote. go to go to vote.com and find out how and where to vote. [applause] and the good thing about voting early is than you can spend the rest of your time getting other folks to vote. [cheers and applause. because we have come too far to turn back now. we have got too many good jobs to create. we have got too much homegrown energy to generate. we have got schools to build and we have great teachers to higher. we have got more troops to bring home and we have got more veterans to care for. we have got more doors of opportunity to open for everybody who is willing to work hard and everybody who is willing to walk through those doors. we have got to make sure this is a country where in america no

matter what you look like, no matter where you come from, no matter what your last name is, you can make it if you tried. [cheers and applause. that is why i am asking for a second term, ohio. and if you are willing to stand with me and knock on some doors for me and make some phonecalls for me, and vote for me, we will win ohio. we will win this election. we will finish what we started and we will remind the world why the united states of america is the greatest nation on earth. god bless you and god lest the united states of america. [cheers and applause] >> republican presidential candidate mitt romney today responded to present president obama's announcement to end subsidies for chinese auto parts while laying out his five-point

economic plan to hispanic business owners at the u.s. hispanic chamber of commerce convention in los angeles. this is just over 20 minutes. [applause] ♪ >> thank you. thank you. thank you so much hector for that warm introduction and for all your help and support and congratulations to christine as well. thank you, good to be home. i have got a son here somewhere. there he is, and a grandson too. my son and grandson, hi guys. [applause] it's an honor to be your guest and to speak to you as we begin national hispanic heritage month. i'm also pleased to represent the party of governor susanna martinez, governor brian sandoval, governor governor luis fortuno, senator marco rubio and

the texas republican candidate for u.s. senate, ted cruz. [applause] these leaders are republicans for the same reasons as millions of other hispanics, they see that ours is the party of opportunity, the party that will restore america's prosperity. at our convention a few weeks ago governor martinez described in experience and some of you may find it familiar. at the beginning of her political career she was a democrat and her star began to rise and as it did so she and her husband got an invitation to go to lunch with a couple of republicans. the words democrat and republican never came up. instead they talked about issues, not about party, such as how do we keep welfare from becoming a barrier to work and how much government is needed before it comes burdensome to families and small businesses? when the lunch was over she turned to her husband and she said this, i'll be darned, we are republicans.

i love hearing stories like that. i am convinced that the republican party is the rightful home of hispanic americans. but my speech today is that might put a party. it's about the country we love and the future we want to build. during the course of the campaign i have traveled across the country. i've seen people have fallen into poverty, people who are living paycheck to paycheck, people who are tired of being tired. over 23 million americans are out of work, underemployed or have just quit looking for jobs. the number of people on food stamps has risen by almost 15 million since president obama took office. median household income has fallen for years four years in a row. now seeing such a poor jobs and income picture, the federal reserve has announced it will once again print more money. the fed knows that this comes

with a high cost and risk for the future, but it feels it has no other choice. are leaders in washington had failed to produce a real recovery. no one is exempt from the pain of this economy of course that the hispanic community has been particularly hard hit. while national unemployment is at 8.1%, hispanic unemployment as you know it's over 10%. over 2 million more hispanics are living in poverty today than the dave president obama took office. in 2008, candidate obama promised us a world of limitless hope. what we got instead is a world where hope has painful limits, limits that make it harder to start a business, to grow a business or to find a job. the administration promised us that its policies would have brought unemployment down to, 5.4% buy now. they haven't. unemployment is still above 8%

and the difference between the 5.4% they promised and the 8% they delivered is 9 million more americans not working, 9 million. i expected that the president at his convention would talk about the unemployed and unveil a jobs plan. astonishingly, he didn't. now i have a plan. and my plan for a stronger middle class will create 12 million jobs by the end of my first term and it will raise take-home pay. my plan is premised on the conviction that it is freedom that drives our economy, that free people creating free enterprises is what creates good jobs with good wages. government supports the job creators but it cannot take their place. now my plan as you have heard has five key steps.

first we will take it bandage of our oil, gas, coal, nuclear and renewables to achieve north american energy independence in eight years. that will not only give us the affordable reliable energy we need, it will also create nearly 4 million jobs and it will bring manufacturing back to our country. [applause] second, we have got to give our fellow citizens the skills they need for the jobs of today and we have got to give our kids the education they need for the careers of tomorrow. there are too many of our kids trapped in failing schools. as president i will ensure that every child from every back round receives a quality education. i will empower the parents -- [applause] i will empower the parents of our low income and special needs

students to choose where their child goes to school. now three, we will make trade work for america by forging new trade agreements with nations that play by the rules. at the same time we will crack down on nations that don't. we can jumpstart our economy by expanding trade with latin america and our nation's 3 million hispanic owned businesses will have the most to gain. president obama is not initiated a single new trade agreement with latin america. i will. i will also pursue a comprehensive strategy to confront china's unfair trade practices and i will do that from day one. [applause] the president may think that announcing new trade cases less than two months before the election will distract from his record but american businesses and workers struggling on an uneven playing field no better. if i'd known all it took to get

them to take action was to run an add citing his inaction on china's cheating, i would have done it a long time ago. forth, we have got to cut the deficit and put america on track to a balanced budget. [applause] i actually believe it's immoral for us to continue to spend more than we take in and to pass our debts onto our kids. i'd like to spend some time talking about this issue in particular. as businessmen and businesswomen and as hispanics, you understand the threat to president obama spending poses or our future. many hispanics have sacrificed greatly to help build our country and our economy and to leave for their children a brighter future. today those sacrifices are being put at risk by a president who just can't stop spending. the president likes to claim he will reduce the deficit by $4 trillion.

what he doesn't go on to tell you is that he is including in that figure over $1 trillion in spending cuts that a party can put in place, more than he is cutting deficit reduction for 12 years. that's right, that includes five years after he leaves office, even if he were to be reelected. under president obama federals bending peaked at 25% of the total economy. that's a level we haven't seen since world war ii. are proposed to bring federal spending back to its historical levels, about 20% of the economy and cap it there and i will pursue a 5% cut in non-security discretionary spending on my first day in office. it's time for a president who is committed committing -- cutting spending and balancing the budget. we balance the budget in our business and at the olympics and every year in my state. [applause] i'm going to put the fl government onk to a balanced budget by eliminating

programs, eliminating programs that are not absolutely essential and also cutting subsidies for things like amtrak and the corporation for public broadcasting, the legal services corp. the national endowment for the arts and humanities. i like some of those things by the way that we just can't afford them. in fact my test for each program is this. is the program so critical it is worth borrowing money from china to pay for it? and if not, i will cut it off. [applause] now in addition i'm going to send a number of programs that have been growing uncontrollably fast back to the states where i'm going to limit their rate of growth to the rate of inflation or in the case of medicaid to inflation plus 1%. and finally i will look to sharply increase the productivity of washington by reducing federal government employment by 10% through

attrition by combining agencies and departments to reduce the overhead, and by cracking down on the 115 billion-dollar a year in improper payments in government programs. [applause] and i will also align government compensation with that of the private sector. if you do those things that i just described and we reduce federal spending by about $500 billion a year by the end of my first-term. the president i am convinced has put us on a road to greece. i will put us on a back to a stronger america, one would stop spending more than we take in. [applause] and now number five, and you will find this of particular interest. to get this economy creating the jobs we need and more take-home pay, we have to champion in this country small businesses.

[applause] look, i started a business myself. we began with 10 people. today it employs hundreds of people. our business was investing to help turn around or grow or to start other small businesses. today over 100,000 people work at companies that we helped start, companies like as you heard a moment ago, staples, bright horizons, the sports authority and steel dynamics. small businesses often grow into large businesses. you probably know this, two-thirds of american jobs created over the last 15 years were created by small-business. now i know small business. not because i studied it in school but because i lived small-business. and i know that small businesses are being crushed by president obama's policies. too often government regulators treat businesses like the enemy and they crush them with an

avalanche of regulations. big business can deal with that. small business can't. and then there are taxes. i met an entrepreneur in the electronics industry in st. louis. he said that he and his son have gone through a calculation to determine how much they have paid to the government. its federal income taxes, payroll taxes, state income taxes, gasoline taxes, sales taxes and real estate taxes. is amounted to over half of what their business aren't. over half. now you think about that, the likelihood of success and small businesses not real high and if you are lucky enough to be successful, the government wants to take more than half. no wonder business targets are at a 30-year low but the president has announced that he plans to raise the federal income tax on small businesses even more, from 35% up to 40%. that will kill about 700,000 jobs. we need more jobs, not less.

in a recent study concluded that my plan which reduces the tax rate on small business will instead create 7 million jobs. and now let me talk for a moment about obama cared and how it affects jobs. the chamber of commerce surveyed 1300 of its members are good found that three-quarters of them said they are less likely to hire people because of obamacare. now i know that we need health care reform, but obamacare is the wrong way to go about it. obamacare will replace consumer choice with government joys and it would cause health insurance premiums to skyrocket and it's already depressing job creation. i'm going to repeal obamacare and replace it with reforms that increased choice, slow down the runaway growth of insurance costs and open the doors to more new jobs. [applause]

if we do those five things, if we take advantage of our energy resources in full and we fix our schools and reopen more trade, and we cut the deficit and we truly championed small-business, our economy is going to come roaring back. we can do better than this black luster economy. we can create 12 million jobs and arise and take him pagan. my confidence by the way comes from the entrepreneurs i met across the country in a roomful of hard-working entrepreneurs right here. martha de la torre is here. in 1988 martha cofounded a spanish-language weekly, classified ads. now there is a tough business that martha adapted with the times. she became an expert in search engine marketing and she turned it into an on line powerhouse. we are joined by another

successful entrepreneur, during dominique as. terrine oversees one of the nation's top construction management firm's. she has been collecting so many words for leadership this year that we are lucky she didn't have a conflict on our calendar today. i happen to believe entrepreneurs like martha and doreen are the future for america. i believe in them. i believe the credit for their work goes to them, not to the government and i sure don't believe that the government should take more of what they earn away from them. this is really at the heart of the difference between president obama and my vision for the future of america's economy. he wants government to tax more and regulate more because he believes government can do a better job than you can. i believe in you. i believe you can do a better job than government. [applause] i am confident that you and your dreams and your freedoms will

build a stronger future for all of us and for our children. this belief in a free people and free enterprise is the american heritage. it's why by the way america has outperformed economically almost every nation on earth. now finally i want to say a word about immigration. americans may disagree about how to fix our immigration system but i think we can all agree that it's broke and. for years, republicans and democrats seem to be more me more and just had them playing politics with immigration than with actually fixing it. candidate obama said that one of his highest priorities would be to fix immigration in his first year in office. despite his party having majorities in both houses of congress, supermajorities, the president never even offered up a bill. like so many issues confronting our nation when it comes to

immigration, politics has been put ahead of people for far too long. i will work with republicans and them at rats to permanently fix our immigration system. we will never achieved a legal immigration system that is fair and efficient if we don't first get control of our borders. i believe we can all agree that what we need are fair and enforceable immigration laws that will stem the flow of elite immigration while strengthening legal immigration. i want to make the system far more simple and transparent. you shouldn't have to hire lawyers to find out how to legally immigrate to the united states. [applause] and by the way want to shift their diversity visas to instead bring together immediate family members and i want to structure our temporary worker visa programs so that these meet the needs of our employers. and by the way if someone gets an advanced degree, i want them to stay here so i'd staple a green card to their diploma.

[applause] america as a nation of immigrants and immigration is essential to our economic growth and prosperity. 1 million immigrants legally enter america every year, the largest number of any country in the world. i like that. i want to preserve our heritage of robust legal him a gration and i want to make sure that those who abide by the law and wait in line to immigrate here and do so legally are not at a disadvantage. that is why oppose amnesty because amnesty will make it harder not easier to strengthen our legal immigration system. it's also why my ministries will establish an employment verification system so that every business can know whether the people it hires are legally eligible for employment. if the business cheats, there'll be strict penalties for that business. in the midst of a difficult

re-election campaign, president obama created what he calls a stopgap measure, those were his words, for children but here are illegally through no fault of their own. instead of playing politics with these children, i will pursue permanent immigration reform and i will start by ensuring that those who serve in our military have the opportunity to become legal permanent residents of the country they fought to defend. [applause] those who have risked their lives in defense of america has earned the right to make their life in america. [applause] now i have spoken often about how proud i am of my father's. he was born to american parents who were living in mexico. when he was five, they left everything behind and started over again in the united states. my dad grew up poor but he

believed in a country where the circumstances of one's birth were not a barrier to achievement, a place where hard work could turn dreams into realities. he went from selling paint out of the trunk of his car to becoming the chief executive of the great car company and ultimately to become the governor of the state of michigan. my wife ann's father was a first-generation immigrant. he ended up founding a successful manufacturing company that made components and equipment for ships from the united states navy. i know many of you in this room have similar stories. that's the american story. to story that is told over and over and over again. it's a story of the american dream. the american dream is not gone. it has just been put a little further from reach. i know what it takes to bring it back, to have it inspire our children just as it inspired our fathers and mothers. they sacrifice so much so that

we might have it as part of our lives and now it's our turn, our responsibility to restore the opportunity and prosperity and dreams that have invigorated this nation from its beginning, and it is a responsibility we will fulfill together. thank you so very much. it's an honor to be with you and god bless you and the united states of america. thank you. you all seem pretty fired up. and ready to go. and that is a very good thing because after our convention a couple of weeks ago i'm feeling pretty fired up and ready to go myself. [cheers and applause. when we were in charlotte just a few weeks ago, we heard from folks like president clinton and vice president biden and they reminded us how much we have accomplished together, how much is at stake and why we need to reelect my husband for four more years. [applause] and my job, my job in charlotte was pretty simple. i had the pleasure and the honor of talking about a man i have loved and admired for 23 years and why i married him. [cheers and applause]

now listen up to all of the ladies. [cheers and applause] let me share a little something. when i first met barack, he had everything going for him, everything. he was handsome, still is. he still is. he was charming, talented and smart. but, that is not why i married him. and thalys this is where i want you to listen in. [laughter] what truly made me fall in love with barack obama was his character. you know, -- [applause] it was his decency. it was his honesty and his compassion and his conviction. you see i've loved that barack was so committed to serving

others, that he turned down high-paying jobs and instead started his career trying to give folks back to work who were struggling and i love -- yes, yes. [applause] and i've loved that barack was so devoted to his family, especially the women in his life i saw, and this made a difference, i saw the respect that he had for his mother. i saw how proud he was that he put himself through school while supporting he and his sister is a single mom. i saw the tenderness he felt were his grandmother. i saw how grateful he was that long after she had retired, should have retired, she was still waking up every morning and catching a bus to her job at a community bank to help support the family and he watched as she

was passed over for promotion simply because she was a woman. but he also saw how she kept on doing that same job, kept getting up year after year without complaint or regret. you see with barack, i found a real connection, because in his life story i saw so much of my own. growing up on the south side of chicago, i watched my own father make that same uncomplaining journey every day to his job at the water plant. i saw how he carried himself with that same dignity. we all see that, right? we have somebody in our lives like that, that same hope. [cheers and applause] that same pride in being able to provide for his kids, that hope that his kids would one day have opportunities he never dreamed of. like so many families in this country, our families weren't

asking for much. they didn't perk rich anyone else's success. they didn't mind that others had much more than they did. in fact, they admired it. but they simply believed -- love you to. [cheers and applause] but our families and families like ours believe enough fundamental american promise, that even if you don't start out with much, you know, if you work hard and do what you were supposed to do then you should be able to build a decent life for yourself and an even better life for your kids and their grandkids. [applause] and they believe that when you work hard and have done well and have walked through the doorway of opportunity, you do not slam

it shut mind you. you always reach back and you help other folks with the same chance that helped you succeed. that is what you do. that is what we were taught. that is how barack and i in and so many of you were raised. those are the values that we were taught. be learned that how hard you work matters more than how much you make. we learned that, yes indeed. we all learned that. we learned that the truth matters, so we don't take shortcuts to game the system. you don't play by your own set of rules. ..

>> but i have talked about barack obama's values a few weeks ago, not just as a wife and a mother, but also as a

first lady who has seen up close and personal what being president really looks like and how critical those values are for leading our country. [applause] and let me tell you what i've learned. over the past 3.5 years, i have seen how the issues that come across the presidency's desk, they are always the hard ones. the decisions that are not just about the bottom line, but about laying the foundation for the next generation. i have seen how important that is to have a president who doesn't just tell us what we want to hear, but he tells us the truth. especially when it's hard. [cheers] [applause] i have seen that when it comes time to make those tough calls.

as president, you need to be driven by the struggles, hopes, and dreams of all the people that you serve. as president, you need to have a strong inner compass, a core commitment to your fellow citizens, and that is how you make the right decisions for this country. that is what it takes to be a leader. let me tell you, since the day he took office on issue after issue, crisis after crisis, that is what i have seen and that is what we have all seen and my husband. we have seen the values at work. we have seen his vision unfold. we have seen the depth of his character, courage, and conviction. [cheers] [applause] think back to when barack first took office. and our economy was on the brink of collapse. the newspapers were using words

like meltdown, calamity, they were declaring wall street imploding, the economy is in shock. folks have been alerted to buying homes that they could not afford. their mortgages were underwater. banks were not lending, companies were hiring. the auto industry was in a crisis. the economy is was losing 800,000 jobs every month. a lot of folks wondered whether we were headed through another great depression or not. now, this is what barack face on day one as president. that is what elated him, but instead of pointing fingers and placing blame, barack got to work. he got to work. [cheers] [applause] because he was thinking about folks like my dad and his grandmother. you know, that is why he cracked

down on lending, today, when you apply for a mortgage or a credit card, you know exactly what you're getting into. that is why he cut taxes for small businesses and working families because he knew that teachers and firefighters should not pay higher tax rates than millionaires and billionaires. [cheers] [applause] he got the auto industry back on his feet, and today, new cars are rolling off line at proud american companies like gm. yes, why we still have a long way to go to rebuild the economy, we have had 30 straight months of private-sector job growth under this president. a total of 4.6 million new jobs, good jobs, right here in the united states of america.

here's more proof when it comes to health care. health reform was the easy thing to do politically. he cared that it was the right thing to do. today, because of health reform, our parents and grandparents on medicare paying hundreds less for their prescription drugs. young people can stay on their parents insurance until they are 26 years old. insurance companies now have to cover basic preventative care, things like contraception, cancer screenings, no out-of-pocket costs, they won't be able to discriminate against you because of diabetes or asthma or pre-existing conditions. here is another thing.

if you get a serious illness, let's say breast cancer, and you need expensive treatment, no longer can they tell you sorry, you have hit your lifetime limit and we are not paying any more, that is not legal because of health reform. [cheers] [applause] when it comes to giving young people the education they deserve, barack knows, he never could've attended college without financial aid. never. when we were first married, our combined student mortgage bills were hiring than our mortgage.

that is why barack obama is trying to keep interest rates down and. [cheers] [applause] because he wants all of our young kids and all of you people to have the skills they need for the jobs of the future, the kind of job you can raise a family on, jobs that will drive the economy for decades to come. finally, when it comes to understanding the lives of women and standing up for our rights and opportunities, we know that my husband will always have our backs. [cheers] [applause] barack knows from personal experience what it means for family when women are not treated fairly in the workplace. he knows what it means when

women struggle to meet the demands of their jobs and the needs of their family. he knows what it means to want our daughters to have the same freedoms and opportunities as our sons. [cheers] [applause] that is why the first bill that the president signed was to help women get equal pay for their work. and that is why your president will always, always fight to ensure that women can make your own her own decisions about our bodies and our health care. [cheers] [applause] that is what my husband's transport. so when people ask you what the president has done, when they are deciding the people moving

mover for four more years, here's what i want to to say. are you listening? and wanted to want to start by telling them about the millions of jobs that barack has created. tell them about the health reform and those kids who can finally afford college. tell them how barack under the war in iraq and how we took out osama bin laden. tell them how barack thought to give veterans and military families the benefits that they have earned. tell them about young immigrants brought to america and how they will no longer be deported from the only country that they have never called home. tell them how brave men and women in uniform will never again have to lie about who they are to serve the country that they love.

[cheers] [applause] tell them that barack obama knows the american dream because he lived it. and let me tell you something, he has been fighting every day so that everyone in this country can have the same opportunity, no matter who we are or where we are from or what we look like or who we love. [cheers] [applause] she knows, hillary clinton, it

is going to take a longer longer than four years to rebuild the economy, to the get back from the brink of collapse. [cheers] [applause] [cheers] [applause] four more years. [cheers] [applause] here is what i know for sure is. barack obama, since the day he took office, he has been fighting for us. he has been struggling with us and together, slowly but surely, we have been pulling ourselves out of the hole that we started them. for 3.5 years, we have been moving forward and making progress and we are beginning to see that change that we all believe in. so we have to ask ourselves, here is the question. are we going to turn around and go back to the same policies that got us into this mess in the first place?

garbage are we just going to sit back and watch everything that we fought for and work for it to just slip away? or are we going to keep moving this country forward? forward. forward. but in the end, the answer to these questions is up to us. all the progress we have made is all on the line and is all at stake. it could all come down to what happened in just a few battleground states, like florida. and you all know a thing or two

about close elections here in florida. i want you to think about what happened in this state in 2008. back then, we won florida by 236,000 votes. now, that may seem like a lot. but when you break it down, that is just 36 votes per precinct. did you hear me? think about that. thirty-six votes. that could be one more vote in your neighborhood or dorm room. that could be a single vote in your apartment building. so if there is anyone here who might be thinking that somehow their vote doesn't matter, that their involvement doesn't count, that in this complex political

process that ordinary folks can't possibly make a difference, is there anyone thinking about? i want you to think about those votes. this stadium -- in this stadium you could also bring an entire reason for barack obama. if we want enough precincts, we will win this day. we will put barack obama and

keep him in the white house for four more years for it right here, we can do it. from now until november, here's what i want to do. we need every single one of you to work like you've never worked before. young people like so many of you here have always driven barack's campaign with your energy and passion. we need you to talk to everyone you know -- that student sitting next to her class, young people, your parents or grandparents. let them know what this election means for your future remind them of all the things that this president has accomplished bring them to events like this one make sure that you and they are

registered to vote. [cheers] [applause] that's the first step. you have to be registered, especially for students if you've just moved. if you haven't reregistered, you have to think about your situation. or if you have never voted before, then they definitely need to register or if you change your address, you may need to reregister. we have volunteers here today who can help make that happen. they are here today once you're registered, make sure you get to the polls and cast your vote on election day. here in florida, you don't even have to wait until november 62 vote. this is important to young people.

you might not feel like it, you might forget. you don't have to wait. you can request a ballot right now and vote by mail in october and starting october 27, you can vote early at convenient locations, including libraries and city halls. young people can vote early. all people can vote early. to find out where, how to request a mail-in ballot, you just go to gottavote.com. love you, got to vote. i have to be honest with you. because i always try to be a honest. vote. vote. but understand this. this journey is going to be hard. these next days, they're going to feel long. but when you start to get tired, and the well, when you start to think about taking a day off, and the welcome i want to remember that what we do for the next 50 days will absolutely make a difference on november 7,

the day after november 7, the day after the election day, and ask ourselves if we could do more. we're feeling the promise of four more years. four more years. [cheers] [applause] from now until november 6, we need you to keep on working and struggling and pushing forward because that is how change always happens in this country. but if we keep showing up, you know, if we keep fighting the good fight, eventually, we get there. we always do. what i tell everybody is maybe we don't get there in our lifetime, but maybe in our children's lifetime. maybe in our grand children's lifetime. because in the end, that is what this is about. this is what keeps me up. that is what elections are always about. don't let anyone tell you

differently. elections are always about hope. it is the hope that i saw on my father's beaming face as i crossed the stage to get my college diploma. it was not critical. [cheers] [applause] it is the hope of barack obama's grandmother a hoax as she cast her ballot for her grandson she loves and raised. it is the hope of all those men and women in our lives who work that extra shift. you saved and sacrifice and prayed so that we could have something more. the hope that so many of us feel when we look into the eyes of our own children and grandchildren. that's why we are here today. because we want to give all of our kids in this country a foundation for their dreams. think about it.

we want to give all of our kids opportunities were the other promise. we want to give our kids the possibilities. but here in america, the greatest country on earth, there is always something better out there if you are willing to work for. this is what i know. we cannot turn back now. not now. no, we have come so far. but we have more work to do. so let me ask you just one more time. are required of? are we ready to go? are required of? .bless you, love you so much. also, kelly ayotte. this is about 45 minutes. [applause] i believed you in the pledge of allegiance. i pledge allegiance to the flag of the united states of america and to the republic for which it stands, one nation, under god, indivisible. with liberty and justice for all. all right, this is a town hall meeting. john mccain is no stranger. i've had the pleasure of being

on another presidential campaign in the year 2000. [inaudible] [laughter] john mccain came back to new hampshire years later to see more friends and people who remembered the wonderful campaign. prior to that, is not only the military, but a public service of the united states. i figure governor romney should be honored to have senator mccain on his behalf to talk about the significance of differences between republicans and democrats into the way that we treat people in this country, and there is nobody better to l.a. this differences.

i welcome him here and i hope you'll give him the same welcome. john, congratulations. we look forward to hearing from you. [applause] >> i see so many of our leaders who are here, our state senators, and i appreciate your service. [cheers] [applause] >> taking care of our services,.

we appreciate your coming out today. i'm so honored to be here with my friend, john mccain, and it really is an honor to be here with the american serviceman. i have an essay that have been [inaudible] governor romney. >> very worried about where we are right now. frankly, it really is.

it starts with $13 trillion in debt. accumulates between dollars in debt. now we are $16 trillion in debt, and here we are, we are thinking about america and we all need to contribute to the debt resolution. the budget that he introduced, that shows you a great deal. he has actually had work in a bipartisan fashion. when you think about being governor and we do the work in

the legislature, and that is because america needs to bring strong. over 43 straight months of unemployment. the job report, we have the lowest labor participation rate since 1981. sore work force -- people are leaving because of the policies this administration has made so much more difficult. we see it out there. the administration is threatening higher taxes, greater regulation washington. governor romney really has to realize these things and turn it around for us. and our veterans are coming home right now, they need us to turn

the economy around so that they have the opportunity to go forward in the country that we love. finally, i have so much respect for john mccain. we need a president it's not going to apologize for america. [applause] john mccain has not only been in washington a traveling around the country talking by the devastating threats were military. and that is across the board, sequestration in january. going forward to lead the effort to resolve those kinds of things are going to undermine our national security according to our secretary of defense and our military leaders. this is a threat to our country and our men and women in uniform. we need to make sure country in

the governor romney will provide that, and of course, another way people are talking about this is american exceptionalism and american strength. i am proud to be here with my friends, john mccain, because it is an honor to serve again in the united states senate. it is always an honor to call him a great friend. >> thank you, thank you very much. thank you all.

thank you dear friends, thank you dear friends for the warm welcome. i must say that it is always a bit of nostalgia that i come back to live free or die. wonderful, wonderful state of new hampshire families dedicated to preserving, the state of new hampshire. i should've known that. the great state of new hampshire take their responsibilities very seriously. what happens in new hampshire, obviously, is so important in the selection of the next president of the united states. having said that, i would like to ask for sympathy for the families of arizona. because barry goldwater from arizona ran for president of the

united states and mark udall printer president of the united states. bruce babbitt ran for president of the united states. i ran for president of the united states. arizona may be the only state in america where mothers don't tell their children that someday they can grow up and be president of the united states. [laughter] thank you all, it's wonderful being here. so many new hampshire jokes, my favorite one of always were mark udall, walked into a barbershop and said i'm from arizona and i am running for president of the united states. in the barber said, yeah, we were just laughing about that this morning. so thank you, charlie, thank you for your service to the state of new hampshire. thank you for your great service and the congress. charlie, i believe, has a great reputation of one of the hardest working members of the united states house of representatives. thank you, charlie for your

continued service. bernie, thank you for your continued service as mayor. i had a great friend who is the mayor of scottsdale. one night, he kept his name and phone number in the phonebook and the phone rang and it was 2:00 a.m. and i had a problem. he said i will get back here. the next night at 2:00 a.m., he called the guy back. instead of i got the answer to your problem. and he said i knew that you would be out. so the mayor had a tough job. thank you for your service in the united states marine corps. oh, i'm sorry, jim, thank you for your service in the state senate and thank you for your service. i had a son who joined the marines at 18 years old and serve in iraq. the best thing that ever happened to him.

i used to say that when i graduated from the naval academy, i tried to get into the marine corps, but my parents were married. [laughter] [applause] until my son, jim, told me, he said, you know, the marines are part of the navy department. the men's department. so anyway, i want to thank all of you. terry and jim, thank you. thank you for your support. i am very grateful, and i thank you for that. we need to mobilize our veterans and barry palmer is the post commander here. thank you for your hospitality and jim hardy, thank you, it's wonderful to see you again. finally, two inmates in the chow line in the state prison.

one of them turn to the other and said the food was a lot better here when you were governor. [cheers] [applause] anyway. i tried a joke in illinois. i think all of you. i finally said, what an honor it has been to serve the united states senate, particularly the armed services committee with kelly ayotte. she has done a magnificent job. many areas that kelly has been involved in. one of them is this whole issue of treatment of prisoners. she took her experience as the attorney general of the state to washington to work on these very difficult any issues. as you know from the president wants to close guantánamo bay and once read them there in the rights and kelly ayotte does not leave the terrorist should give

miranda rights. and i want to tell you that she has done a magnificent job. her partner, joe, thank you. thank you for your service. he's a pilot, not a very good one, but anyway, thank you, joe for your partnership. i want to try to make it brief, but there's a lot happening in the world. what it is about, my friends, what it is about his failed presidential leadership. this president does not believe in american exceptionalism. this president does not believe -- in leaving from behind. now we are seeing and unraveling throughout the entire middle east, a diminution of the united states throughout the world as this president fails to lead. my friends, i'm going to go very quickly with you, but indirectly

lost 104,700 brave young woman untrained americans. and we didn't leave a residual horse and it unraveling. they just convicted their vice president resentenced again. al qaeda is returning. violence is returning. the whole place is coming apart because this president, who, by the way, said that the surge would never succeed. in the words of general keane, we won the war and we lost the peace. and i hate to think about the loss of american blood and treasure, including a brave young american named matt lee stanley. i'm telling you, iraq is now unraveling because of our failure to leave a residual force. landing in syria today. malki has been influenced by the

radiance farmer than by the united states of america. that one is unraveling. my friends come in case you missed it, we just lost about $200 million worth of aircraft in a well orchestrated, well-planned, penetration, and foremost surveys in afghanistan. my friends here will know that there is nothing that harms morale more than when you can't trust an ally. these killings of afghans in uniform, american servicemen and women is unacceptable. it is unacceptable. otherwise all this happening? because the president of the united states never talks about success. he never talks about victory. he talks about withdrawal. so we doing? we are withdrawing. we are withdrawing all right. and meanwhile, we have lost an

enormous amount of american blood and treasure. obviously, they are taking all the nations in the region, because they believe that we are withdrawing, believing that there is no further presence in the united states of america in and making their own accommodations. the famous anecdote of the taliban prisoner and the taliban prison says you have the watches, and we have the time. that is exactly what is happening in afghanistan today. in syria, 25,000 people have been massacred, tortured, murdered, raped, horrendous stories, and we won't even give weapons to resistance to make a fair fight. in case you you may missed it today, the iranian had announced that the syrians are in syria -- the revolutionary guards in

syria. american national security policy is now being driven by whether russia and china will veto any action that could be taken there. i'm telling you, the massacre is terrible. these people should always be provided with weapons with which to defend themselves, as russian weapons, and iranians and hezbollah from lebanon were coming back into the country as they massacred people in determinately. so that is a situation, obviously, that cries out for american leadership and, of course, now, ran is on the path to nuclear weapons, and it is very clear that her closest friends in the region can't trust us. they can trust us. and that is why you are seeing the prime minister of israel saying the things that he is saying. the iranians started out, back

in 1980, when they were responsible for beirut. they have orchestrated attacks of terror against the united states of america ever since. they are our number one enemy, and when we doing about it? let's go and have another meeting. i always wish they had these meetings in someplace like brooklyn. as nice a place as brooklyn is. don't get me wrong. but the point is that our policy has been such that the iranians really don't believe we are serious. finally, let me talk about the tragic thing -- and i will stop see you can ask questions or comments or insights. so here we are with the death of a brave and wonderful ambassador. i have had the honor of knowing chris stevens. i was in benghazi when he was living literally under threat

everyday. i was on libya on july 7. we went downtown and tripoli and thousands of libyans came by and saw him and said thank you, america. they had a free and fair election and this is an act of terror, to spout what you will see, the u.n. ambassador and her presidency. my friends, you don't bring the

ambassador says it's all because of the video. my friends, the united states has an advocacy for the freedom of speech. their kids and their mothers basement in their underwear that are having these videos. are we going to condemn everyone of them? know, we're going to tell them that america stands for free speech. to blame it on a video -- what this is all about is the radical islamists taking an obscure video that nobody ever saw or heard of in exploiting it in spreading it around and stirring up people so that they can defeat the things that we stand for and believe in. they want to destroy the effort of these people towards freedom and democracy. i won't even go into it, but the point is that america has got to

lead. ronald reagan very do. you think that ronald reagan would've stood by without speaking up, without speaking up for these 25,000 people who have been massacred? of course not. ronald reagan would've been saying, it is terrible for these people to be massacred. the president of the united states has not said a word. this is not what america is supposed to do. this is not leadership. finally, can i say as kelly just mentioned and i will stop, the sequestration, which was a stupid thing to do, it was a stupid thing to do, which, in the words of the secretary of defense will be devastating to our national defense, the president sits by and doesn't do anything about it. kelly and i and lindsey graham have been going around the country, especially to places where the military bases were going to be devastated by the sequestration across-the-board cuts, and we are asking and

pleading with the president of the united states as the secretary of defense says, that these cuts are going to be devastating, invited to the white house. we will come down and we will compromise and prevent a devastating effect on our ability to defend this nation. what is the number one responsibility of the president of the united states? it is commander-in-chief. we want to sit down and get this done. you're the president has said? he says he will agree to raise taxes. is that the kind of leadership -- that is not what leadership is all about. that is not the responsibility of the commander in chief is. finally, can i just say that i travel a lot. we just came back from a trip overseas and every time i meet these young men and women who are serving, i can tell you that they are still the best. they are still the very best.

[applause] and they need a new commander-in-chief. they need a new commander-in-chief. and i have every confidence, i have every confidence that mitt romney has all the instincts of ronald reagan. he has all the instincts of the importance of american leadership. he has a very great appreciation for the position, and no, he's not confide every battle, he's not going to send troops everywhere, but he is going to exercise american leadership. which has been awol as far as this president is concerned. even if he doesn't know what that means. with that, kelly and i and charlie would like to respond to

any questions or comments or insults that you may have for us today. thank you very much, it's great to be back. [applause] okay, all right, great american. >> thank you. i am concerned. i know that the political correctness -- we have talked about the secretary of the state in the president, and even the ambassador to the united nations, trying to blame all this on that film. i am concerned when this kind of pressure reaches the joint chiefs of staff and we have the joint chief of staff making a phone call in trying to track down the videomaker, can you talk about the pressure when that starts permeating the level of the military, i just have

been very disappointed. >> i have been disappointed in the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff. he went to israel at least once. and he talked to the israelis. to try to convince them not to attack, but most important, it he leaked to the media that that's what he has done. what message do the iranians get when our senior military leaders say that they were in israel, not to tell israel that we are with them, but we will drop redlines together, that if they ring in skysails lines, we will do whatever it comes back and says, that i try to convince the israelis not to attack. what do they get for not? i think it is pretty obvious. i have been very disappointed in our uniformed leadership and it is very unfortunate. in other ways, they have got themselves involved in areas that they shouldn't have as

well. >> i would just add to what john said about the chairman and the joint chiefs of staff. he actually came before the budget committee that is the first time he did that. i gave him a really hard time before our committee about it. and i said, why did you do that for your party to publicly basic wysiwyg conversations with your having one of our closest allies? and he kind of backed off. then he did it again recently. so i have to say that the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, will report to the president of the united states. when he does that, he is not doing that unilaterally. this is obviously the policy of the administration. that is what is most disappointing. our allies need to know that we are with them and we can have those conversations. very honest conversations so that we are not empowering our enemies. unfortunately, we have seen a repeated pattern of that.

[inaudible question] to give them the kind of protection they must have in this world of uncertainty.

>> we held several combat missions in the last several years [inaudible question] >> i think they are merkle workers. what was the cheer their? general motors is alive. bin laden is dead. they brought bin laden back to life, they had 20 countries around the world. even in football, you get a penalty for spiking the ball. thank you.

>> those words coming from a genuine american hero. it reminds me of the fact that every hero that you and i have ever known never took credit for themselves. every hero, and i have had the honor of knowing a lot of them. and another one today. they never take credit for themselves, they give credit to others. i don't see that behavior in this administration. and i want to say again about it, i think the president for ordering a strike. except for the gift that keeps on giving, joe biden, i think any other commander, any other commander would do the same thing. and i give him very credit for it. if you think al qaeda has really been seriously damaged? it is because of the belief of the failure of american leadership. thank you for your time.

>> i would also like to add that what john just said. when we think about things that have come from this administration that frankly are we didn't need to know that. we knew that there were american heroes that women are. and did what needed to be done and we will always be grateful to them for that. but what has come out about secret programs also, it makes our allies less willing to cooperate with us if they think that they are going to be making someone look better. this is an example where we have a failure of leadership.

.. we all already to do whatever to make sure that mid-crosses the line, but the only thing i can think is, as obama said, we are going to crucify, crucify him because he doesn't have the record stand on it. >> and thank you. >> out would be interested in

kelly and charlie's opinion but i think part of it is the hundreds of millions of dollars in vicious attack ads that he was subjected to four months before he was able to get sufficient funds. i mean that is not just an opinion of mind. you can watch the unfavorables of romney go of. so, this is the most vicious campaign. i have been observing presidential campaign since teddy roosevelt. [laughter] so there you go. so, i have never seen in modern times they just vicious attacks, bain capital and allegations that he was lying. even when of this person said he committed a crime. there was a saturation, and so

it is regrettable because that i would ask the questions, suppose that the president is reelected. what does he want? what does he want? you know in my campaign and i shouldn't even mention this, i was urged to go negative about certain aspects of my opponent and i didn't want to do that. i didn't want to do that because i thought the focus should be on other things. obviously this campaign is the most vicious that i have ever seen. second of all, i just would like to say one of the reasons why i am here is because i love new hampshire but it's a swing state and i want to assure you my friends that, unless mitt romney wins new hampshire, his chances of winning the presidency are dramatically diminished and i need our veterans out. we need -- mitt romney needs our veterans. we have to call our federal -- fellow veterans.

this thing that kelly was talking about, no time in history, this people of s.e.a.l. team six and their families are now forever under a shadow, a threat and yet we know where those leaks came from. so, for the sake of the future of this country, no one understands it better than those who have served in uniform and we have got to get our veterans vote out and right now we haven't -- straight talk, we don't have that level of support from the veterans in new hampshire that we need, so i'm asking you, my friends we have got 50 -- >> 50 days. >> 50 days. [inaudible] [laughter] >> 50 days. that reminds me of that classic

story of new hampshire where one guy said to the other diamond, what you think about -- moe udall for president? i don't know, i only met him twice. [laughter] >> either very unsure about her warriors. some of you were in desert storm and i know during desert shield and order came down for us to to have ammunition in our weapons. many of us who were traveling from base to base in the airfields in the helicopters, we disobeyed the order because we were going up to a civilian community and we covered our weapons so you couldn't tell. what is going on with this president to allow our veterans in hostile countries do not have any ammo loaded or in the chamber? something is wrong here. [applause]

>> i have got to be straight with you. i have not heard whether that is true or not. i'm trying to find out but i have not heard whether that is accurate or not. say that again. >> i just came back from afghanistan in august. [applause] the blue on green events have increased the readiness of our troops over there but prior to that, wherever you were the standing order was to go green as we call it with their weapons. without giving out classified information to the gentleman is correct and luckily after the green-on-blue incident that we had and now we have had several cents, we are going amber they call it so our weapons are ready to go. there are just not chambered. [applause]

>> they are not chambered? >> correct, we don't chamber a round until we are ready to shoot the weapon. >> i am a pilot. [laughter] does that give you time? does say give you time? >> absolutely. in all the firefights i've been into i have always had time to wrap around as we and return fire in engaging with the enemy, always. [applause] >> thank you. >> i know this is the last of that but i want to make one brief comment. kelly, senator mccain and i have strong records for veterans and i'm hopeful that the veterans community will be a strong source of support for mitt romney but is important as it is for all of you here to

look around you in your neighborhoods, there is a person in this room that doesn't know somebody who has a young family, maybe one or two paychecks away from bankruptcy or losing your job. the reason why we are seeing these horrible ads on tv is because this administration has failed america and this economy. we have had the longest recession since the great depression. we have driven the national debt up by $5 trillion which is more than it was the whole nations that when i entered congress in 1995. we are no longer number one in economic vitality and creating new opportunities for people being employed and this president has nothing to defend for the last four years but a failed pass and trade bill and the health care bill which will federalize the whole u.s. economy and is creating enormous economic uncertainty and i can go on and on. anybody who cares about the future of this nation for the

next four years needs to pass the word not to republicans, because i know potential in most of the people here are republicans are independent but also to democrats, to understand it's more more than just partis. it's bipartisan here. we are all americans and we need to get this country going in another direction and it's not going to happen if we reelect a community activist versus somebody who really has experience in turning tough businesses, troubled businesses around. this country is in a workout situation right now thanks to the administration over the last four years and if we care about where america is two years or four years from now, it's much bigger than anything i've ever been involved with before. so all of us need to get out, not only supporters of veterans but also everybody in society and persuade democrats this is not just another vote. it really is for the future of america so is that i will turn it back.

[applause] >> do you want to say anything? look, i want to thank all of you. i cannot tell you how wonderful it is to see old friends and be able to spend time here. i love every part of the state. kelly and joe nye had dinner last night and i was talking about being up at this ball sums and mr. tillotson who was the one who invented the knicks film not jenna first in the nation and all that and i had the honor of meeting him. he was like 103 at the time and i said mr. tillotson you have seen all these candidates in every presidential candidate has to go up to the balsams because the first of the nation and all that but who is your favorite of all these candidates that you met? he said my favorite was mr. roosevelt. i said really? franklin roosevelt was a --

he said no, theodore roosevelt. [laughter] so can i say, can i say it's wonderful to be back not only in new hampshire but with our fellow veterans and i want to tell you how proud i am of these two. they represent the state of new hampshire with honor and distinction in the congress of the united states. thank you all for being here. it is so wonderful to be here with jill biden. [applause] i know i don't have to introduce her to you. [inaudible] [applause] there she she is, nancy. i have two kinds of people who -- the people in the 20th

district of florida my constituents and the members of the democratic national committee. we have democratic national committee members here. [applause] thank you so much aerial for the outstanding work you do in the field organization to turn out the vote for president president obama and vice president biden. [applause] it's a very good thing that you are so fired up and ready to go. election day is 51 days from today, 51 days and as president obama laid out in his speech a little over a week ago when we accepted our party's nomination, this election offers the mac and people the clearest choice we have seen in a generation on every single issue from jobs, taxes, deficit reduction to the economy energy education in our national security.

this is not a choice between two candidates. it's a choice between two fundamentally different visions for our country's future. [applause] it's just as simple as that. as women we can fall backward with mitt romney and paul ryan and have an economy that trickles from the top down and i agree, no. we can grow it with president obama and vice president biden and build it from the middle class out. that is what american values are all about. for me just as it is for many of you this election isn't simply about a choice, is a personal one and i want to share with you why. in the fall of 2007, just four years ago at the age of 41, i heard the words that no woman wants to hear, you have breast cancer. it's hard for barack obama and joe biden -- in and out of

hospital and i remember sitting in a hospital after one of my surgeries waiting for a tech to come back wondering how many more birthdays i would get with my kids and how many anniversaries i would celebrate with my husband. i am pretty tough. i don't care how strong a woman you are though, it is scary and as a member of congress i was so fortunate to have great health insurance and an incredible standard of care. but i have heard too many stories of women my age sitting in that waiting room and on top of everything else they didn't know how they were going to pay for the treatment that they need it. so many of those women had to choose either the chemo or the radiation, but they couldn't treat both because of the deductible and the co-pay and the expense. i couldn't even imagine how they could make a choice like that so when we passed obamacare and we erased that because obama cares and joe biden cares. [applause] and then, when the supreme

court, when the supreme court upheld obamacare this summer -- [cheers and applause] it was very personal for me because obamacare lifted that boulder that i felt like i was carrying around as a breast cancer survivor and a 129 million americans who live in this country with a preexisting condition carry a around these days. that burden was lifted by barack obama and joe biden when we major insurance companies cannot drop a sort of nice coverage for preexisting conditions ever again. [applause] so my friends when that romney and paul ryan talk about repealing those critical reforms for millions of women across the country i take that personally too. let's be clear about what he's really doing. he's asking the women waiting room to go back to the days when some of them couldn't afford the care they needed and apparently that romney thinks it's

perfectly fine for insurers to continue denying coverage to breast cancer survivors who like me are only here because screening caught the cancer on time. i think that is some acceptable and you can be certain -- [applause] you can be certain that i'm not going to accept that for my daughter's rebecca and shelby who are 13 and nine years old. that is not going to be their future and i know you won't accept it either, right? [applause] absolutely. now thank you. now throughout this election cycle, we have heard it all from the other side, haven't we? from my colleagues with todd akin's infamous words about legitimate rape to your own governor's advice to women being forced to undergo unnecessary and invasive ultrasounds to just close your eyes. i mean, you just can't make this stuff up. get is a stark reminder to all of us that there are still

powerful forces who want to turn back the clock for women in this country and in this day. we are not going back, are we? they can only succeed if we let them and we won't let them take us backwards. that is what the next 51 days is about. we must be moving forward. [applause] so now, now it's my honor to introduce a truly incredible woman, dr. jill biden. [cheers and applause] they have some very nice words here that they have put on the paper for me which i'm not going to use because i can tell you a personal story about jill biden and many personal stories about her husband that the white house -- when i was involved with students when he first ran for president of the united states but jill biden is a lifelong educator, they proud

blue star mom and also happens to be the wife of the vice president of the united states. i rearrange that because we are women in our own right and we talk about our comp which meant and we are not only the spouses of our husband's. [applause] we have much to talk about in terms of what we have accomplished that is the second lady of the united states, dr. biden has highlighted the important roles that community colleges play in ensuring in a 21st century economy we have rebuilt from the middle class out in the bottom-up, bottom up, not just the top down and she has raised issues of personal importance around breast cancer awareness and breast cancer survivors. the story i want to share with you, which i don't know if she will remember, i spent the year that i had russ cancer going through seven surgeries doing a

project and i want to protect my own children because cancer is a very scary thing and everybody in our family who has dealt with cancer has not survived. they were nine and five and they were little. also i didn't want breast cancer to define me. i didn't want to have every description of me in the newspaper to be debbie wasserman schultz who is currently battling breast cancer. i wanted to control who i was and i knew well-meaning people would say, and this is a presidential election, we can't ask debbie to do that because she is dealing with breast cancer. one thing i know is a breast cancer survivor and someone who went through it you really feel like you lose control over everything and that was something i could control. i did not know the biden's as well as they do now if that point and i got the nicest personal note after i shared my story and i'm going to have a hard time getting through it.

where she helped give me the strength they needed to continue and talked about the breast cancer survivors and awareness activities that she had worked on and supported the legislation that i was involved in passing to help raise awareness among young survivors and just talks to me woman to woman, girlfriend to girlfriend and that is the kind of real person that jill and joe biden, the real people they are, putting people first. another woman's first and to help make sure that she could lift me up and help me get through another day. so it is my privilege to introduce the second lady of the united states of america, doc or jill biden.
