university. he had attempted his race unlike me. thoughts tumbled through my mind as i looked at his face. if this big brother accepted the obama's why can't i? he is probably smarter than me and can discern lies from the truth. i felt exposed and like there was something dirty about our kinship and it was founded on a lie. the quest that he and later i wanted honesty. i lashed out at him with this in mind. why bring up the garbage about my father being a drunk, beating mom and the kids. i have moved on.

he flinched and i saw his eyes turn hard as he stared at me. after a moment of silence he continued with his questions. i was astonished. a part of him shut out the words and we was pretending i didn't say them. we were both blind. i could not see my father's virtues but he might have formed opinions of him and idolize him. likely no one told him the truth. it was as if he was conditioned not to explore these matters having formed an opinion clinically and without passion. his demeanor was cold. i felt then he was an arrogant bastard to was too polite to say so to his face. i didn't enjoy being treated as a research subject. i didn't want to be pitied or ignored by members of my family.
