>> i give an example in god guns grits and gravy a guy who is heading greenpeace in europe. he is all about wanting to reduce co2 emissions but it turns out an audit of greenpeace shows he is flying from his home over two i think it's luxembourg a couple of times a month and the output of co2 that he is expanding because of this jet travel is like 100 times that of the average person. and so when confronted about it here was his answer. he said well, the train trip would take 12 hours and that would be time away from my family and a whole lot of time that i wouldn't be working. in other words because it's not very efficient. and i'm thinking isn't that why most of the slide? here is the point. if you are going to be an environmentalist and you say that is horrible to emit co2 than live like it.
4:54 pm
i use the example glenn reynolds who is a great blogger makes a statement about environmentalists. he says i will believe it's a serious problem when the people who say is a serious problem act like it's a serious problem. now kudos to people like ed begley junior and darrel hannah because they are environmental as to who actually practice it and live it and i have read about it. ed begley is very smart in life. he has a small imprint of energy output. once in a while he may make a bicoastal trip but i respect that. whether i agree with it or not to me if you have the conviction then just live it out. if it's authentic we will see it in you. if it's not then don't tell me how to live. don't be al gore and say the oceans are about to overtake the coast and then build a 20,000-foot home right there on the coast.
4:55 pm
i'm sorry that doesn't make sense to me. if you think you're oceanfront property is about to become washed into the sea why the heck would you build a?

>> an army officer so associated with george washington's legacy go to war against what we today consider george washington's greatest legacy, the union. it was this question that ultimately drew a leader to the story and if the knowledge and history could've turned out so much differently. because on the eve of the civil war leaders on both sides in richmond and in washington saw lee's services for high command. both knew about his connections to george washington. that was common knowledge and both saw tremendous significance in them. they also knew that when the fields god who at the time was a ranking general in the u.s. army that lee was the very best soldier he had ever seen in the

field. and robert e. lee certainly looked like a fine soldier. he stood just under 6 feet tall. he had powerful broad shoulders. he had a barrel chest. he had perfect posture. everybody who saw him said some version of the same thing. batman looks every inch the soldier. so in april 1861 an and emissary for abraham lincoln asks robert e. lee to right across from arlington and come to the city of washington. that emissary's name is francis blair and he makes an extraordinary offer. he says will you leave the main union army to crush secession and his leave remembered the story blair tried in every way to condense robert e. lee to say yes. he said,, blair set to leave the country looks to you quote as the representative of the washington family to save the union and that was hardly an

exaggeration because here after all was the son of george washington's most famous you would just and the son-in-law of george washington's adopted child. so now only one word separated robert e. lee from the pinnacle of this profession from command of what would be the largest american army ever waged and from glory perhaps and no american since george washington would know. and what did robert e. lee say? he said he opposed secession and he did oppose secession. he thought secession was illegal and equally significantly he thought george washington would have opposed secession. that was no given at the time it has people on both sides of this conflict claimed george washington for their own. secessionists say george washington rebelled against the union with the british. on the other side the unionists would say george washington in his farewell address said deprived the union above any

allegiance. actually robert e. lee is reading a biography of george washington in the months before the civil war and he is hearing these arguments and he concludes that he basically agrees with the unionists position. he believe george washington would have opposed secession. so what else does lee say to francis blair? ..
