a broad understanding of what bea or book expo america is spent book expo america is the annual tradeshow for the book industry and it is help at the jacoheld at thejacob javits cent side of manhattan. it's once a year and it's a place for people in the book trade not just in the united states but all the world to come together and find out what the hottest new titles are for the fall and winter and beyond, intimate and cultural exchanges. if you're walking afford to do you would have seen a very extensive booth from china because they are the special guest of honor. that in itself has proven to be controversial because an american center has held counterprogramming protesting china's presence here. that's also become speak of newsworthy stories, something that's been interesting to keep track of spent book expo america being a place for authors to preview the books coming out in the fall.

the hot for nonfiction coming into the fall spirit let's first talk also the ones that are in those books. the first one -- shipments of publishing a book called reality this book which is look at something called -- using video games as a way of essentially getting through life. she draws on personal experience when 2000 she suffered a concussion and it occurred ever long time to heal and she was going to press and listless. she created this game a couple it is called jane concussion but in order to counteract the feelings of depression and user knowledge and love video games in order to recover from this concussion. it's essentially offering tips on how to apply what people love and admire about the games, the feelings of story, creativity,

and plug into everyday situations and also crisis situations. the way games can be applied to life. i happened to her speak earlier in the week. she's a dynamic speaker. certainly this book will attract a very wide audience spend what else is on your list? >> for something a little more fun is notorious rbg. yes, the ruth bader ginsburg. that are out from the internet were young women in particular really feel that ruth bader ginsburg who of course is a justice on the supreme court, the really admire your helicopter. they feel she's a feminist role

model and so there was this meme go around for pictures we go all over the internet with various settings, what happens with me meme. and they turn this into a book for i believe justice ginsburg knows about it and she preps maybe not approved by the but at least understands it and likes that it is out there. >> and your final? >> the third, i would like to talk about -- that's a good question that actually there several wanted to talk about. i know among other things we will be having a memoir from dick van dyke, the actor, his 90th are these in december. a couple of months before they be publishing a book called keep moving this is essentially how to live your life along the lines of dick van dyke. there's also a book by -- on the geography of genius. that will not be out until january but that has a lot to do with creativity all the way back

to the classics age. he has published several nonfiction books of note, look at terry's case studies and see how it applies to our modern world. >> we mentioned the team puts this list together you have your own picks up for the fall as well? >> what we do in addition to excerpts of more than 30 titles not just nonfiction over though that's the folks at c-span to have fiction ngos. we also have middle grade. the adult buzz books opens with the larger fall and winter preview of books in all of those categories. i do prepare that so i tirelessly go to all the catalogs whenever they're ready and try to pick out which are the titles which be of particular interest. and nonfiction i know for a fact many, many people will be

interested especially c-span watchers a book called exceptional by former vice president dick cheney which he wrote with his daughter. no, interesting is going to have some pointed criticism of our current president and i'm sure that that will garner a lot of attention. on a different task, officials announced is a book by gloria steinem, feminists, the founderr of ms. magazine and also to get a lot of attention. finally, any given thing is a new book from space a shift to a previously written a biography of cleopatra that up into different myths. her new book will be out of place in october and it's about the same witch trials. she will uncover a whole mess of new details that would change the way that we think about the 1692 trials enough people reacted at the time, and how that might still be the lessons

that we need to learn from what happened then to what is happening now. very public shaming happy and vibrant. >> you don't just cover the publishing industry but you're part of it. you are an author of a forthcoming book. can you tell us about that? >> in september i will be publishing a collection that i'm editing for the library of america. it's called women crime writers. each volume one of four novels. the first is of course 1940s novel, the second in 1950s novels but as is the case with the anthology i edited a couple years ago will include a mix of office people to understand -- office had not seen print and possibly more than 50 years. it's been my pleasure to make this my research, my passion and to be working with the library of america.
