california. >> then we will visit the japanese american collection at sacramento state university, letters, photographs, diaries and art work from japanese communities following the attack on world harbor. >> today we are in the center for sacramento history and we hold the original record for the city and county of sacramento. we go from the beginnings to the city in 1850 all the way up to present time. when you talk about the whole experience to coming to california to search for gold, you're going to need your supplies, you probably had your portrait taken to document yourself before the journey, one of the things you would have acquired was the map, figure out where you needed to go, this was a great map of the gold field. this map would have folded all up so they could fit it into
