san bernardino valley they felled the hot springs hour-long discovered but they started to explore and they saw the value but it was too rugged and dense to make it use of the property but they began to settle in san pretty no valley to establish a new town in the 1850's seven the mormons were called back to salt lake by brigham young and the senior gentleman arrived here individually with the intention to sell the things to the borman's as they were going back to salt lake city said he would come in here to explore the area he is also weighed about spiritualist and believed in

the healing properties of water he had grown up with the disease the tuberculosis and killed many people in his family he made it is 90 wanted to find a cure. so when he was here he thought it would be an ideal spot to develop a tuberculosis sanitarium so began a two had his first sanitarium that was open to the public 1864. so two years ago the 150th anniversary of the commercial use of arrowhead springs but it is now the

resort got its name. there is a cute arrowhead land mark about 1400 feet tall is pointing downward it is pointing to where the hot and cold springs are since it is in the shape of a natural arrowhead at the foot they took the name arrowhead springs so the land market self was the major promotional feature of though whole area with all of the advertising with the extensive use of the landmark so it was the major piece of the tradition. >> glenn smith first came here to develop this brings it was a set of crude shacks

rudimentary facilities to stick couple of elongated buildings built 1883 he lost control of the property because of financial troubles and a group of los angeles businessman built -- bought the property and it was a first-time they built a full-fledged hotel the first on the property they open dash end it was up pretty big success they had a pond out front they also use that for water treatment to reverse the people sat in the pond but the hotel would

end in fire in 85. they would rebuild it bigger and better basically at the same location so now is even more successful it was bigger and better but the boom of the 18 eighties was relatively short-lived and did not last too long so still they came up to visit arrowhead springs and by that time it was promoted less as a health resort more as a recuperation and rest people would come appeared to rest and recuperate but always had a full medical staff from facility for the visitors.

so it was a large to get bigger and better and in 8895 it was due to mishandle fireworks and after the second hotel burned remember the great boom era was over an economic times was very difficult so the property sat idle for about 10 years so they knew of that era bedsprings and there was nothing here at the resort to but 1904 they got together to form a corporation to buy the

property to rebuild there brand-new hotel and vice three story hotel opened in 1905. and withy architecture the third in of biggest hotel by far the most largest in successful so in 1905 it began to promote the hotel as rested recuperation to build all the facilities and additional facilities and to

come to arrowhead springs there is different types of water so come here to be healed by the water and drew people to the hotel. after they would come to the hotel they would package it up and send it home to the relatives in the eastern states. finally somebody got the bright idea it was a good product to barrault commercially in in large quantities. so in 1909 they came to be here in arrowhead springs to catch on with the hollywood movie stars and to find a

southern california with the ability so it is just guarding to take hold in that type of timeframe. so they wanted a place they could get away and they found arrowhead springs as a brand new facility beautiful and luxurious. just far enough away from hollywood about two hours away. . .

lj is. it was built along with a new hotel that was opened in 1939. and it was a landmark piece of the whole resort. it began to seriously decline in the late 1950s. there was extensive travel to folks you can get on an airplane at that time and the highways were improving and just a little ways from where we are right now las vegas was beginning to take hold in the 50s and 60s so folks could get on route 66 and go to las vegas so they had a lot more travel opportunities and vacation opportunities
