1:11 am
washington journal continues. screen is former congressman and former presidential candidate ron paul joining us from houston, texas, where he host the ron paul liberty report.
1:12 am
yesterday, you compared the to the 9/11cks attacks, not because of the effort to kill large numbers of americans, but because of the response by politicians and federal officials. explain that. guest: political people will take advantage of it and promote their agenda. when a gun was used immediately, people who do not like guns and want to control guns and sales of guns and anti-second amendment, they will jump on this and make some headway with that. the other side, who wants to stir up animosity against and what is going on in the middle east, they will use it as a justification to go over and increase both your activity over there. those who believe that the real solution to all of the problem
1:13 am
is more surveillance and more sacrifice of the fourth to make sure that government knows everything about everybody, and they will prevent it from another test and proven to be helpful in the past. that it willgument not be helpful again in that it is for this special political interest that goes on. how do we make use of this? i believe most of them are sincere about it that they sincerely believe that individuals do not have the so they willguns use this and others believe we have to accelerate what we are doing in the middle east and surveillance of the people and i think it is the wrong way to go. host: you would argue no new surveillance or gun control laws . is there anything that could be done to prevent the next orlando? guest: there is no way to absolutely prevented, it is like
1:14 am
saying how can we live in perfect safety and you cannot. a lot of things have to change. the republican leadership that isis influenced this individual though it was an american citizen who did the shooting in orlando, that isis was an influence on this and therefore we have to deal with that, at the same time, the left says it is the guns who have and we have to do more there. what gives the incentive to isis. played a role in giving the crazy guy a suggestion, there is no evidence that isis was literally directly involved. ishink what they need to do realize there was an influence on isis. whye did isis come from and are we supporting isis and trying to rescue isis in syria? assads trying to given of
1:15 am
and so are we. the russians are involved but we do not want the russians to protect or get rid of isis. on and on and we pump the weapons into that area. neither right nor left will consider the fact that our foreign policy has a significant influence on how isis comes about and where they get their weapons and where they get their incentives. 9/11, been this way since you cannot say this, you cannot ever say that maybe this is a reflection of that policy on our part. that is considered un-american but i consider it patriotic to try to analyze policies and try to offer a different policy that might not incentivize these radicals. you say pump weapons in, are you saying that continues to happen? guest: it is ongoing right now. we're helping radical factions in syria.
1:16 am
we want them to take out assad. the russians are in there by invitation and they said do not do it. they are threatening each other. isis ends up with these weapons. we give them to the moderates but nobody knows, there are two or three groups in their in the weapons often end up in the hands of bad guys. are many weapons from libya, and that ends up with a lot of weapons in the middle east of helping these radical groups. the libertarian arches we should not be involved. it is too messy and does not have anything to do with the national security. what is a threat is getting involved and pretend it has nothing to do with people getting angry at us and why we go 6000 miles away from our home and bomb and kill people. we now have people saying see, they are still involved and they
1:17 am
caused orlando, which is not true, and therefore we have to be more aggressive here it you hear them say let's go bomb more people. both sides take that position, republicans and democrats support the idea of an intervention in the middle east, even with out declaration of war. a preemptive situation going on to a large degree in the past years. we have accepted the notion of preemptive war without declaration, and obama, who is supposed to be directed toward a more peaceful solution, he wants to go to war and get rid of the side. he announced we have got to get rid of assad. there are bad people around the world all over the place. we are killing a lot of innocent people and it gives an incentive to those who are inclined to become more radical, and the
1:18 am
argument comes up that it is all islam and we have got to regulate every muslim in the world, instead of saying, in every religion, you have radicals who tend to use religion to promote radical causes. we are talking with ron paul, former congressman from texas and presidential candidate. college -- valley the cottage, new york, go ahead. caller: thank you. a pleasure to talk to you, senator. none of the candidates running for president ever talked about the federal reserve. you were the only presidential candidate who tried to talk about the federal reserve and how the federal reserve is hurting the average american, blue-collar worker, and that monetary policy as it is now is helping the top 20% of americans and hurting the low end.
1:19 am
could you please explain to the people have federal reserve policy is hurting the american people and why it is necessary to rain the fed in? -- other thanaid that, i have not heard anyone talk about monetary policy and how it is hurting the american people. i should note that monetary policy is a topic of senate banking committee happen today. janet yellen will testify and we will go there right after our program today. go ahead. guest: this brings up the subject of the previous discussion with your guest a few minutes ago, because income inequality was the subject of your program and i listened to most of that and never once today mention monetary policy. whether you are dealing with inequality or education or whatever.
1:20 am
distortion of money is done by central bank because they get to print the money five -- for political reasons. it is always to help the poor. we do not have enough tax revenues so we will print the money and give them free there is always somebody who will threaten us overseas and there are enemies we have to deal with and it is very costly. the military-industrial complex need the money and that bankers need their money. say who controls the printing of money? it is very destructive because by its very nature, it destroys the middle-class and takes money and puts it in the hands of people who get the money first. politicians and banks and the military-industrial complex to corp. rations, to get the money and say, don't wages go up? never at the same rate. real income is down but nominal income isn't down and since we have been off the gold standard
1:21 am
since 1971, they happen printing like crazy. time, nominal rates have not gone down but purchasing power goes down. you destroy purchasing power which destroys the middle-class, the poor get poorer and everyone says what we need is more money. said maybe wee are mistaken and maybe the balance sheet of the federal reserve is too small and maybe we have to make it much bigger. money for then of purpose of serving special interests is very damaging. some people at sea believe it helps but the evidence is so clear that it is a power struggle. with the 1%to deal on wall street, you have got to do with a monetary policy because it is designed to help them. you do not attack people who get honestcause they give us services and good services. different from any socialist
1:22 am
says the rich is the bad guy. my tape policy is the key to the solution of inequality in income. monetary policy is a topic not unfamiliar. libertyreport.com if you want to check out that. ron paul is taking your questions and we ask our viewers to weigh in on facebook as well with any questions they might have for you. here is 1 -- what do you think? there are similarities but i'm cautious to say exactly. i worked with bernie when we were in congress together and we was -- we would try to stop big deals for big as mrs.. he wasn't much interested in balanced budget and not printing
1:23 am
socialism is really quite opposite of libertarianism, but he is an honest person who really wants to help. his economic theories are is myent, but his enemy enemy, the special interests who are very wealthy. we agree on that. we have some similarities and the crowds were similar with him and what i had. but i separate myself when it comes to having authoritarianism. socialism is based on authoritarianism. i think wealth is much better when everyone keeps what they earn and have an incentive to and the government passes out no favors to anyone except for protection of liberty equally. that is the way to do it to me a set of this group needs more help and we have to take it from this group. that is an authoritarian solution and that is all we have in the past year
1:24 am
essentially from our candidates. host: alex is waiting on our line for independent. s. caller: it is an honor to talk with you, congressman to you have been inspiration to my political philosophy through the years as a student. in regards to your anti-interventionalists policy, many see a duty of the west is to support the fragile aspects of the middle east, considering has of the turmoil that come about by the rejoining of the borders by the west after world war ii. our duty to prevent ethnic den -- and genocides and things of that nature considering drawing the borders. how do we balance that duty to the middle east because the west half interventions with the kind of goal to slowly separate ourselves from the situation.
1:25 am
guest: you have to give up the principal of nonintervention. it is not authorized in the constitution and we do not have the money and it does not work. the intent is good but we should never prohibit people from helping people who are -- we should have an opinion but for us to go over and decide that a sod is doing nasty things to its people so therefore we have an obligation to use force against the american people, we should tax the american people, print up money and destroy our economy get a lot of people killed, innocent people getting killed and go over there and say we have to get rid of a sod, was we have been doing for five years. is youlure of the system do not do it without authority. even if they voted and said we should declare war against a sod, we do not have the moral authority to do that.
1:26 am
we have the moral authority to defend our country and our own liberties that i know it is tempting. like opening up the door to welfare. a lot of conservatives say there are poor people and we have to feed them. we give up 100% of the principal that you can steal from one person and give it to another. you are not allowed to steal from your neighbor but the government is allowed to. besides, it does not work. ofyou give a little bit authority to intervene overseas or in the welfare state, it grows by leeds and bounds until you have what we have today, both in foreign policy, totally out of control, an economic system totally out of control, no productivity or savings. the rich get richer. if you look at our foreign policy of intervention, no matter how noble, it is usually designed for the military-industrial complex. so more weapons and get involved.
1:27 am
they say we have got to sell the weapons. we are doing that all the time and it just does not work and we should look at the history of that. florida, an republican. i would like to say it is a great honor in my life to talk to you. your campaign >> caller: first of all, of a bike to say at is a great honor of my life to talk to you. your campaign in 2012 i appreciate everything you have done in your many years of service. but my question, this year your son rand and unfortunately his camp he didn't go quite as far as i would have hoped. what do you think the difference was that so manyy people were turning out to
1:28 am
caucus for you and i love or in 2012 but he once said freedom is popular but people were just putting their heads in the sand. >> guest: and economic conditions change that cater over isis as people get more concerned but i cannot exactly why he did his very best in the one individualic who is able to get the attention the media loved tim mann he drew the crowd if it was a distraction from
1:29 am
concentrating on individual liberties like big government is the problem many went to sanders as there was a little bit of an overlap as they were concerned about the rich getting richer with the economic understanding these offer was out there and there is a lot of people like you who understatementempi. with the foreign policy is failing currently in recant maintain our empire today's. announcements by janet yellen she will not say with taken place 9% below zero but the freedom movement is alive and well we have to
1:30 am
take the opportunity now the people are recognizing that government is of failure. but our message passed to get louder and clearer. a lot of times it will smolder of long from an individual and negroes as people realize even as the top to the republicans andha the democrats a lot of people said we are fed up and we have to offer the option of less government in more personal liberty. >> you're not supporting donald trump? >> i am not. >> gary johnson? >> i support though libertarian party. there is a few things like the vice presidential candidate to say i ever enthusiastic about the ticket but his demands for
1:31 am
the non-aggression andnment to get your principal that you and i cannot use aggression and to get our way or use the government to use force them more votes day get them more for the non-aggression principal that is as far as i go because i know little frustrated with the individual running in the discussion but my goal is to introduce as many people as w possible to the non-aggression and principal which was the intent of the founders to have squandered that inheritance to let people fleeing in terms of individuals rather than groups? and groups muslims are bad. mexicans are bad. individuals have libertygroups b cases have been if its bidec never be punished.
1:32 am
so i want people to think it comes with individual liberty i think the individual that is indorsed is a good way to cast a vote this year. >> eurobond with dr. paul. >> and don't always agree with all of your positions but i enjoy listening. i am calling about the mass shootings and from this caller's perspective it does appear the mass casualty incidents have a common thread of the ability to kill lots of people very quickly with high-capacity weapons. what is your policy response to make harder for people to get ahold of high capacity weapons so if we did they
1:33 am
would be lower casualties? is that a reasonable response? >> i don't think it worksple wee you cannot be used to kill unless there is a person behind it but in the scheme of things compared to the tens of thousands of literally hundreds of thousands of individuals killed, those of the weapons hillary says we don't want to see that paillette she participates to put weapons of war overseas on the streets.how much do we get on al the gun is not the issue. if this is how much expression do we get of dozens and dozens and hundreds of people killed on our street? why do we say it is thee pistol?it is
1:34 am
it is the pistol's fault know it is the economic conditions it isn't though lack of laws. we have plenty.we had a lot i just don't think having more regulation, that is like the tsa since then 11 a lot of regulation and abuse of liberty's with the no-fly last dobie knows how they are put on that undermines your civil liberties the fbi has said they never stop anything from that.about but there really doesn't work quite frankly i encourage people to thinkpeople more of who is in denial of how does foreign policy give people incentives? and those who are off their
1:35 am
rockers grab ahold is a navy there is religious support but i think the gun is secondary. >> good morning. to "washington journal" and dr. paul. my statement will be back rand seemed to have the only nonsensical statement during the debates in which he said he would not borrow money to give to israel i think thate was very much common sense. the other thing i like to say is that i believe the federal income tax is not constitutional to be pursued
1:36 am
>> host: are you still with us dr. paul? >> yes. please paraphrase the at. >> is in and out. >> host: we will get that fixed for you. >> caller: good morning. i have a comment pertaining to do the assault weapons. and what i am calling about why haven't they done
1:37 am
something about that before all this had taken place? why did they let this go onha that long? these assault >> i think what they should do is win day go t the use the gun shows why doeson anybody need that type of weapod weapon? barne that should be used only for military. >> good morning. >> caller: we appreciate you listening to me.
1:38 am
>> you are talking about isis and going up to the cold hard facts, when you go into somebody's house you block their kitchen and their brothers and sisters in a little kid is standing there three or four years old, he will remember that when he grows up he will kill you of that is the basis for isis we will still create one problem after another and they will follow you home. if you want to end the war all you have to do is reenact the draft number 18 gives the young people jobs. miy number two it would get rid it of blackwater that is
1:39 am
training a military expense and i guarantee within two years the american people will end the war is over there just like vietnamts because it is all right will little johnny on the street is killed but when mine is it is a different situation so just re-enacted the draft to save lives. >> levy has been questions over debates under your system should they be eligible?he >> is like jeb bush said when he was running for president, you have to have skin in the game' if everybody has been then
1:40 am
you can lie when the body bag comes back. you did a year one word so that created your problem. it talk about the editorial board of "the new york times" making it easier for law enforcement to stop the basis on reasonable suspicion they voted if they stop the man on the street that there wasn't evidence obtained contained to that stop could be used against tam. what about the fourth amendment? >> and not quite sure i
1:41 am
complete the koch that a ruling by duping the fourth amendment is dead. but what congress does to try to tighten at up so take the no-fly list anybody can put their name. to say he looks suspicious the fbi says we don't have enough time we will put them on the list. but that is one of the principal problems we have today with started with 9/11 but has gotten worse but even with the recent shooting from orlando. >> i have been made aware what the federal reserve is
1:42 am
getting away with with the damage to our situation but besides that is anybody worse as far is damaging our current situation? >> please paraphrase that i am getting static. >> host: yes. he asked if there is anybody worse than the federal good quen reserve as far as damaging our freedoms. >> guest: that is a good question so the federale reserve is called the enhancer with the banking system and the military g industrial complex and those that like that for welfare
1:43 am
reasons. and we can do that without direct taxation. so i think the enemy is the whole philosophy of the - - big government of authoritarianism. whether the income tax or by the federal reserve into protect individual libertiest they should have the abilityty to keep the incentive to say we should trust the people to take care of themselves and they will make those for themselves and if they make the mistake they can suffer a the consequences and they endorsed the of the reserve -- this is to help the people and help the economy but
1:44 am
then the best comes withve three people smile and say who want tos the authoritarian with big government welfare and people who want to be with the military industrial complex. this is endorsed by both parties when uc john peter and nancy policy that is what i think of. to much coalition building between left and right and authoritarian is some and that is day probably have to face. >> grade his speakership so dets that i t far. >> no. i don't have enough information to go into
1:45 am
detail but he is part of that system. you cannot get that far along. others who those who is independent minded to be taken off the committees and you're not promoted. we know that. to be chairman of the banking committee bet would be irrelevant so i think if you become speaker of the house you have to capitulate and go along. under those ciieve in more government so under those circumstances i wouldn't expect a miracle and then to
1:46 am
do its very best. to >>. >> it is the ron paul liberty report check it out. i have to more calls. nation. >> and with us number one state for white supremacyy groups in the nation i would ask a question in to promote the general welfare of the people or the top 10% and question number two what regulated militia show was the shooter in orlando a member of? >>.
1:47 am
>> i think he was off on his own mentally as well. but, unless you define that the general welfare of the people of each and every individual for equal justicece under the law but so the job is to define it free medical care for this group and not talking about the general who we welfare to be official for liberty for all.their , thateneral welfare maybe different but that would be
1:48 am
best because we want to take care of everybody to make fair and equal to be very destructive. that is why a bankruptdefi situation they think they can define that. and what that means to live in a free country if we don't have the authority in to introduce the notion by this system of the irs. i don't dig this whole idea whether literally or to finance. >> you are on with dr. paul.
1:49 am
>>. >> you are a man of deep thinking identifying problems and problem solving. so with iraq for the middle east tour the united states today. with the same-sex marriage talk about the root cause that justice scalia and his dissenting opinion talks about no social rep transformation there is no attacks without representation talk about social transformation with same-sex marriage we did the same thing with the middle east to impose democracy and
1:50 am
we will begin to take a look at that and until we look at the vantage point i would like to hear your comment. >> but the answer comes in a non-aggression principal because they have to use force. to end up with the egg guillotine because they didn't do the things to make them good democrats. so we have to throw that buyout. so the non-aggression principal because people can do what they want.
1:51 am
some people say this is my definition of marriage and with libertarian society as long as they don't use force telling people what to do to enforce their standards on somebody else we should have freedom of choice to read books amtrak is our religion they should be freely decided upon to make sure purpose ofy uses the government most of the you cannot go into your neighbor's house to stealec but to steal from other people because they knew something it is called the poor. entitlement so they get bad bad deal but that entitle the system and with that
1:52 am
agitation going that we have to deal with his mom and day half to do something to do because profits were made. >> get a line for democrats. >> i think the american people we're kept in the dark just like isis nobody knows much about that in the of leader of isis that they are now helping.
1:53 am
and started the engineering because he didn't re in now everybody is leaving barack obama. band that just isn't true. locust -- liquid is going on in afghanistan. and then dumping resources into there. >> your point is well taken. if you are a whistle-blower to see what the government is doing to you.is tremendous af it has committed treason. happe? en to give a tremendous amount of information what destroyed.our privacy?
1:54 am
they take that away.o tell us t. we should not punish and with the high wind to torture people with the eastern hatred toward us. he was silly one punished and went to prison.th >> to make sure the government is open nobody even knows what is going on. and the cia is so secretive he was purposely secretive o
1:55 am
there were way too many to protect the rights of the state or the government. governments don't have rights they have obligations of the people have rights they are individuals and that is not by a particular group. >> l1 to end with this question. how would you define the perfect president? does anybody fit that definition? >> i feel like grover cleveland. because with the gold standard with good old-fashioned democrats but there are no perfect people -- but because theer. responsibilities attend ceremonial things. republicans and democrats
