tell us one book you been working on as an editor. >> i just turned in a final edit on a book that will publish in december. most people know her as a novelist but she leads a double life and she happens to be one of the most respected thinkers and writer of the field of neuroscience. the new book has a section on neuroscience and psychology and philosophy and all three of them are a response. [inaudible] >> he is from northfield minnesota and went to st. olaf college. what are some of the book simon & schuster has coming out this fall? >> we have a great list soldiers focus on a few. probably the biggest book we

have this fall would be bruce springsteen born to run. born to run as his first book and probably the thing that most people want to know now is he spent seven years writing the book even before he thought about finding a publisher. he started writing it after his performance at the super bowl and he wrote the book on his own in his free time and when the book came into our hands, it was done. it's everything and more that not only fans will want to read but anyone who's interested in a cultural and musical history of the nation in the last 30 or 40 years. they will find it fascinating. >> will you go on tour with simon & schuster. >> were looking at that now. we would love to put him in front of an audience but were not sure where he will go or

what he will do. >> what's another title coming out? >> another title is rosa brooks how everything became war. she is a fascinating character who did work in the pentagon and she's the daughter of barbara and right and she marries with work and war. what the book is about is how the lines have blurred between the civilized war, the civilized world in the military world. in some times it's very clear what the lines of war and peace were. now we have our military all over the world not just engaged in foreign armies but working with a bola in liberia, writing code, doing all sorts of things

that we never knew our military should or would benvolved in. it raises all sorts of questions about how it impacts our lives as citizens. she has done a brilliant job deconstructing the separation between war and peace in the world today. >> how many books have a simon & schuster published in a year? >> the number is never the same but it can average between 115 or 130 books a year. that is a full year. i don't have the exact number. it's a blend of business, fiction, nonfiction and all kinds of books for different readers within those categories. >> one more title you want to talk about. >> one more book i would like to talk about is called lost boys which grew out of a headline read in the new york times about

two boys who had been arrested because they had been two of the most dangerous cartels in mexico. they track these american boys who get involved with cartel and the mexican born dea agent who came to the state as an illegal who was on their tail. in this cat and mouse page turning narrative, what he's doing is asking questions about the war on drugs and on the border. there's a cop in the book from chicago who says something like the border may as well be right here. just a few weeks ago there was a story about this ohio family and the suspicions that the murders may have been committed by a cartel. whether you're in favor or disinclined to support border security for one reason or another, there's no question that any security will increase the value of those drugs and increase the murder rate. it's an important issue for
