although we have made a lot of strides, we realize long ago that affecting the type of comprehensive change we hope for would require numerous donated efforts across several federal agencies. five years ago attorney general eric holder and secretary arnie duncan launched the support of school initiative and has retained the backing of our current leadership. they aim to foster safe, supportive and productive learning environments keeping students and gauged in school and out of courts. along side of health human services, they provide content for stop bullying.org. its resources are tailored to young people, their parents, educators and educators and others who are working with young people stop bullying..gov works closely with the federal partners and their steering

committee. they are proud member of that interagency effort to cordon a policy, research and communications on bullying topics. with the department of education , agriculture, defense, hhs and the interior, the federal trade commission and the white house initiative on asian-americans and pacific islanders. we spearheaded that partnership stop bullying video challenge and the challenge initiative with the cartoon network. a special thanks to oj p for their tireless support in these efforts. information on all of these resources and events is available at stop bullying.gov. in addition to the dear colleague letter that was mentioned earlier, they collaborated with the educational opportunity section and the department of education to produce the bullying

harassment and civil-rights video. this video which focuses on the federal laws relating to bullying and harassment features messages from assistant attorney general for the office of justice program carol mason. former education sec. arnie degen, assistant secretary for civil rights catherine lehman and the oscar-winning actor morgan freeman. it's also available on the website. they join forces with hhs and dark doj sister agencies the civil right division, community relations services and the office of community oriented policing services for a webinar on preventing bullying of and discrimination against muslim youth. oj jvp will follow up a webinar to that next month. we have over 14 webinars on bullying at our online university.

the materials from these webinars is available through our national trade and technical assistance center. finally, the national institute of justice, doj's research development and evaluation agency has funded research on teen dating violence as part of the violence against women act since 2008, and several other programs examining the relationship between bullying and teen dating violence. that was a lot of information. my head is a little full. the harmful effects of bullying cannot be overstated. is a complex social and emotional phenomenon that affects far too many children and far too many children that we are seeing within our juvenile justice system. it's a complex problem that cannot be solved with simple solutions. all that i've shared with you this morning was meant to demonstrate how dedicated we are to combating bullying in any

form of child victimization and how much we can accomplish when we join forces. we are very proud of what we have achieved together doing during these obama administration years and we look forward to continuing to champion this cause with you in the years to come. thank you very much. once again we are live for coverage of an education department hosted summit on bullying. it features panels of educators and researchers. it is expected to wrap up late this afternoon, probably around 430. let me quickly run through some of the sessions that are coming up. the next session will be on how recent research recommendation and full surveillance impacts bullying prevention efforts. it'll be a short break around 10:30 and a session on legal responses to harassment and bullying. session three is using school operation plans and supporting bullying prevention efforts. there will be a brief break for lunch and it session on strategies to create safe understandings in an inclusive academic environment. there will be a discussion on
