asking voters what question would you ask the candidate at the debate. >> my name is thomas murphy. i have a question for both candidates. traditionally speaking the united states has been among the world leaders in graduation rates however those numbers have diminished significantly. what is your plan to once again increase those numbers? >> i want to ask what are they going to do as far as improving quality because it is expensive and even though i am an athlete,

i still feel the toll that it takes on my parents to send me to college. >> i go to college in virginia and wonder what the candidates think american interests are and how it is that we protect them >> i go to longwood university and my question to the candidates are what do you think about borne from illegal immigrants? >> in his first campaign appearance after tuesday night's vice presidential debate, republican mike pence said the vision to make america great again won the debate from harrisonburg virginia this is a half-hour.

[applause] ♪ >> hello, virginia. it's wonderful to be here. thank you for that wonderful, warm welcome. [cheering] a few months ago i accepted my party's nomination to run and serve as the next vice president of the united states of america.

[applause] but i have to tell you i appreciate that introduction more than i can tell you that the introduction i prefer is a little bit shorter. i'm a christian, conservative and republican in that order. [cheering] and i've got to tell you i joined this campaign in the heart beat because you nominated a man for president who never quits, never backs down. he is a fighter, he is a winner. until recently it seemed he was fighting all on his own but now the movement is coming together and we are going to elect donald trump as the nex next presidentf the united states of america. [applause] but it's great to be in virginia. had a little debate last night.

i was humbled and honored to be there. donald trump called me to congratulate me on the debate and that meant the world to me. some people thought i won. [cheering] but i will leave that to others. from where i sat, donald trump won the debate. the vision to make america great again won the debate. and when we take that vision to every corner of virginia and every corner of this great nation, this great movement, that man and that vision are going to win all the way to the white house. [cheering]

i truly do believe donald trump embodies the american spirit, strong, freedom loving, independent, optimistic and willing to fight every day for what he believes in and he is going to make america great again i promise you that. people ask me sometimes what is it about donald trump and i say i'm from south and highway 40. the speak pretty plainly down that way. we have a hoosier in the crowd. [cheering] i tell people and they say donald trump just gets it. he's a genuine article. when he does his talking he doesn't go tiptoeing around the

rules of political correctness that the media puts in the way of men and women that want to make a difference. he speaks from his mind and from his heart. the american people hear him loud and clear they are going to send that message all the way to the oval office. [cheering] the funny thing is the party ann power seems hopeless to figure out the nominee and of course i'm talking about the media. they all keep telling each other the usual methods are going to work. now we've got them. now we founded this thing he said. then you turn on the television the next morning and donald trump is still standing stronger than ever before the funny thing

is he's never forgotten the men and women who built this nation. people that work with their hands and grow our food, build our roads and bridges. and if donald trump, i promise you will never forget the men and women who serve on the thin blue line of law enforcement all across the state. [cheering] it's probably one of the largest police officers unions in america. 330,000 strong indoors donald trump to be the next president of the united states. there's a lot of law enforcement with us today and i'm honored to be with each and every one of them. it's been a challenging time. would you mind taking a minute

to show them how much we appreciate the job they've done each and every day. [applause] i promise you donald trump will stand with the men and women serving law-enforcement and provide them the resources and the tools that they need to restore law and order to every city in every town in the nation to protect families and go home safe to bears. it really is remarkable when you think about the choice. at the very moment when america is crying out for something new and different and the other party has answered with a stale agenda and the most predictable names. it really is pretty amazing at the time when people in both

political parties are restless for change we know we can have government as good as our people began. can i ask you to decide here and now the first stop on my bus tour that we shall reserve the next 33 days do not rest and do not relent until we are sure hillary clinton will never be elected president of the united states of america. [applause] [cheering] it's like to on one with the media giving half of celery clinton . work for her.

sometimes i have to turn on the television with a stick because you never know what's going to be there. but the amazing thing is even though the media is out there giving half of the work, donald trump is still winning the hearts and minds every day and he's going to win all the way to the white house. the media is so busy parsing out every word said that it seems like they haven't had time to talk about what the clintons have been up to for the last 30 years. so let me see if i can help. the truth is this campaign is very serious. you heard that last night. it was incredible. senator tim kane sat across the table from me in after an and an avalanche of insults, he said he referred to us as running an insult driven campaign. hillary clinton called half of the people that believe we can

make america great again a basket off to the portables, but it's about issues that matter to the people in virginia and the people in this country. it's about security and prosperity. it's about the supreme court of the united states and preserving the highest standards of integrity and the highest office in the land and on every single one of those issues, donald trump is the right choice for the united beats of america in 2016. [applause] on security we talked about it a lot last night. seven and a half years of the leadership of barack obama and hillary clinton on the stage has weakened america's place in the world and emboldened our enemies. despite traveling literally millions of miles as the secretary of state, the world is more dangerous today than the day that hillary clinton took

over the foreign policy. our allies are less secure, our enemies are more emboldened. and it is important to note that it was hillary clinton who failed to negotiate a status of forces agreement in iraq that resulted in all courses pulling out of those that have been won by the soldiers in 2009. they create a vacuum in which ice was able to be conjured up to the variables that had a great sacrifice by the american soldier. i see today if you people acknowledge their service. would you mind either standing or sliding your hand in the air if you wore the uniform of the united states of america would you let us say thanks one more time [applause]

thank you for your service. it was hillary clinton that initiated the disastrous agreement. $150 billion. and as i said last night, for years we imposed punishing sanctions on iran and said they would never go away until they completely abandoned the nuclear ambitions and what we did is deliver $150 billion in the weee got was a delay because when the period of the agreement runs out there's no restrictions at all. the leading state sponsor of terror it to develop a nuclear weapon. and the worst was on the data dy that today released four american hostages, this administration with the full support of hillary clinton and ted mccain delivered 400 million in cash on a wooden pallet in a

ransom payment to a terrorist sponsoring state. it is extraordinary. i know the white house said it wasn't a ransom, but the iranians said it was. and i will make you a promise when donald trump becomes president of the united states we are not going to be paying ransom to the terrorist sponsors. they will pay a price if they threaten or detained people in this country. and last, hillary clinton and her state department left americans in harms way at a state department facility. and she told the parents of the fallen when there remains arrived she told them it was because of a filmmaker in florida when she knew full well she sent an e-mail to her own daughter on the night of the

attack that it was an al qaeda style terrorist attack and when she was questioned on it, she actually said what difference at this point does it make. let me tell you as the proud father of a united states marine, anyone who says that come anyone who did that should be disqualified from ever serving in commande commander-if and the united states of america. [applause] we cannot have four more years apologizing to our enemies and abandoning our friends for the world to be safe, america needs to be strong. and donald trump will lead on the stage with american strength. we will rebuild our military and restore the arsenal of democracy and provide our soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines the tools they need and they will

hunt and destroy isis and any terrorist organization that threatens our people. that's probably why i'm hundred 60 admirals and generals including 17 medal of honor winners have endorsed donald trump to be the nex next commander-in-chiecommander-in-cd forces of the united states. so, this is about security and real choices but it's also about prosperity. we heard again tonight things have gotten better in the economy in this country. we are in the midst of the slowest economic recovery since the great depression. millions more are in poverty today than when barack obama became president of the united states. hillary clinton . plan is more of the same. more taxes. more regulation, more of the war

that is stifling the american economy. it really is astonishing. a lot of talk about taxes last night. my counterpart sounded like a broken record over there and i said to him all you need to know is hillary clinton is going to raise your taxes and donald trump and i are going to cut taxes across-the-board from the working families, small businesses and family farms and we will end the taxes once and for all and lower business taxes for businesses in virginia can grow and keep jobs here in the united states and not see them go overseas. [cheering] donald trump has a plan to get the economy moving again. it is a time-honored principle that's always worked back in the 1980s when ronald reagan did it and in the 1960s when

president john f. kennedy did and you let people keep more of what they earned. on day number one of the administration we will sign a moratorium on any new federal regulation and repeal any obama executive order that stifling growth and jobs in this economy. they did such a great job so give it up for jeb hensarling and outstanding conservative. [applause] donald trump and i know congress convenes put a veil on the presidentbill on thepresident'sl repeal on day number one.

we also know the strength of the nation can be found in the natural resources of the nation. to get this economy moving again. we are going to end the war on cole once and for all and to develop in all of the above energy strategy to call for the power of the nation and well worth the cost of energy. and last, when donald trump becomes the negotiator in chief, we are talking trade now, negotiator in chief isn't in the constitution yet. when donald trump becomes the negotiator in chief i promise you you'll have a president that renegotiate nafta to work for the american worker and get out of tpp and what our trading partners accountable. when it comes to trade we hope

that the american worker first. [applause] it's the best they can do and when donald chump becomes president we are going to put those commonsense conservative principles into practice and we are going to get the economy of virginia and the united states of america back on the move. [applause] and last, before i get to a close, and thank you for coming out today. i know i am not the main event. i'm the other picture on the bus. give yourselves a round of applause for coming out to this movement today.

it is very humbling. [applause] i hope that you leave here today and that you will tell somebody this is really about our country. so we need you to leave here today not just having heard a speech on the platform with hate -- hey bales. he reminded me despite all of the distractions that come out it's about security and a stronger america standing tall on the world stage again. it's about a more prosperous america that get the economy moving again for all of our people. but also when we are electing a president for the next four years as president will probably set the direction for the court

of the united states and we better think long and hard about that. i don't think i need to tell the people in virginia about the constitution. i don't think i need to talk about james madison. i need to tell you about the miracle of the document into the god-given liberties that are enshrined. whether it is our freedom of speech and freedom of expression and freedom of the press or freedom of religion would be the right to keep and bear arms of the law abiding citizens. [applause] we have to decide here in the

home of james madison and the commonwealth of virginia, we have to decide here and now for the sake of the constitution and the rule of law and all of our god-given liberties the president of the united states to make an appointment to the supreme court will be president donald trump. he will appoint a justice and uphold the constitution in the tradition of the late and great justice antonin scully a. they will interpret the constitution and uphold the law and not legislate from the bench. they will be strict constructionist and the american people will be proud. [applause] so it's about security and prosperity and the supreme court but it's also about having the highest standards of integrity in the office of the land. [applause]

you look at the controversy coming out of the clinton years and it's almost hard to keep up. we talked about it last night. about the fact that when hillary clinton was serving as a third ranking officer in the government, secretary of state she had a private foundation that accepted contributions from foreign donors and governments and had a private server presumably so communications about what she was doing wouldn't be susceptible to public disclosure and accountability. we will never know because we are still waiting on those 30,000 e-mails that she has. and when you talk about that server i said this last night. she had a private server where she had classified information,

military operation operations an e-mails from the president of the united states, classified information put on a private unsecured server that could be susceptible and formidable to the enemies of this country. and i've got to tell you as i told the senator last night if either of our sons in the military handled classified information the same way secretary clinton did, they would be court-martialed. [cheering] that's the hard truth of all of this. and the american people are tired of it. the whole point is they say they won't accept contributions from the foreign governments if she becomebecomes president of the d states because it would be a conflict of interest, how is it not a conflict of interest when you are secretary of state of the united states of america the truth of the matter is you are looking at pay to play politics and it's the same pay to play

that will end when donald trump becomes president of the united states. the day that he walks into the oval office and the days for the favored few who come to a crashing end when he becomes president of the unite united ss is only special interest will be you, the american people. and he's going to fight for you and the people of the nation each and every day as our next great president. so security and prosperity in the supreme court and high standards of integrity is what this is about. i don't know what issue will be fluttering around the news tonight. there will be some in. but when you leave here i hope you will tell somebody i ran into mike and this is what he said it's about.

i expect it's why you are here and the enormous throngs of everyday america coming out all across the country for donald trump are coming out. he's always the first one to say to me when he campaigned together we will look out of the car window and he will say to me this isn't about me and it isn't about us. it's about a movement of the american people. and we will make america great again. but now when you go i want you to tell people about the choice he tried to do that last night. a little counterpoint. i also hope that you will tell people you've got a couple people that will always believe that there will be more in this country that unites the people in the united states and it has

a lot to do with faith. first its faith in this thing we call the american dream. donald trump believes in it because to be quite honest with you, we lifted. if you think about it his grandfather immigrated to the country, my grandfather immigrated from ireland, his dad was a self-made man that built a business with his hands. my dad followed work down to a small town in southern indiana and a small gas station business with my mom is a self-made man. donald trump and i were raised to believe much given much will be required. so for him that meant they went to manhattan island. for me it was a calling to public service.

i always tell people if you think about it, rather than a whole bunch of zeros, we have a lot in common. a lot of zeros and that is a belief in the american dream. because we have lived it. it's a simple belief in america that's new every time we consider it. much of the history of much of the world is here in america regardless of their race or creed or color or agenda anybody can beat anybody if you work hard and study hard and treat others the way you want to be treated and never give up. and i want to promise you donald trump and i are going to work every day to revive the american dream for every family and every american.

[applause] it's about faith in the american dream and last it's about that faith that's always underpinned america and brought the first settlers to the shores to sustain them through those early harsh days and it represents and i believe always will represent the foundation of american greatness. but we are now or ever shall be. one nation under god indivisible with liberty and justice for a all. the american people can elect

somebody or we can do different and that is we can't elect a leader, a broad shouldered man who will fight everyda every dae america great again. that is the choice that we face today. we have to lay it out one more time and then i will let you get lunch. if you want a president that will protect this nation, rebuild our military, restore the arsenal of democracy. and who will give the fighters to resources the ability and clarity of the mission to hunt down and destroy isis.

by supporting the law enforcement with the tools and resources that they need and deserve if you want a president who will cut taxes, grow this economy, squeeze every nickel out of the bloated federal bureaucracy and repeal obamacare lock stock and barrel. if you want a president that will build a wall and enforce the law for the people in this nation and ended the legal immigration once and for all and if you want a president that will offend the status quo in washington, d.c.. two other end of the status quo in washington, d.c. and a

president that will uphold the constitution of the united states of america i want to tell you we have but one choice if you want all of those things i'm here to teliam here to tell yous ready. this team is ready end of the movement is ready if you will make sure that virginia is ready to be so elect donald trump is the 45th president of the united states fifth president of the united states of america and we will make america great again. thank you very much. [applause] she should tell them like it is like we've seen someone that's claiming to be a big success with a track record of stepping all over small people and that's how he defines success just like he defines it as not paying taxes to support the troops and veterans and teachers.

that is the best week of the entire campaign with the exception of last week. wasn't she fantastic in her debate? i will get to me in a second. of the debate was so wonderful she did a great job and then it turned out to be the gift that kept on giving. he walked off the stage so mad that he lost. it kept going down some and i think she's in a pretty good spot going into the debate sunday with donald trump. [applause] and here we are 34 days away.

some of the issues that we talked about and then i'm going to close with how we win this thing. so many people have stories and then they found they got stiffed or strong-armed and i'm glad she shared that with us. we have two great members of congress to talk with you. give them a big round of applause.
