[cheers and applause] and there is a real good chance that that number -- a really good chance that number can go to 53 as we win races in pennsylvania -- in pennsylvania and new hampshire. what a great night for our state. never in the history of the state and this has probably been said here before. never in the history of the state have we reelected majorities in the missouri general assembly, the house and the senate, reelected a senator and reelected by a statewide republican officials. [cheers and applause] the opportunity to move forward in our stage is multiplied by a significant number. the state treasurer, what a
4:01 am
great introduction. he's the attorney general. all focused on better jobs and stronger families. joining me in my side and washing 10 for more jobs unless government, all of us listening to missouri and fighting military families in missouri opportunities. what a great moment for our state. and for our country, and for a country where a few electoral votes away from minute and donald trump president of the united states and mike pence the vice president of the united states. people have asked me for months now, what do you think a trump administration would be like?
4:02 am
the two pieces of evidence already on the table are mike penn and the list of judges by president trump would appoint esprit de corps. a republican president and a republican senate in a republican house can do things that change this country and focus on opportunity deep down there. what the world ought to look like and how people can get better jobs next month and next year. [applause] all of you know that nobody can get anything done by themselves in a political campaign. what a great effort we had all of our state.
4:03 am
hundreds of thousands of poles were made. i think we set records on what we can do to identify and turn out voters and a hundred or thousands of at this moment would indicate we are led to have every single one of these voters that turned out today. [applause] and in my case, particularly in my case, having a family that is silly to put up with the process, having a family that is willing -- willing to not only work hard to do the right thing, but also understand that the other side is saying whatever is necessary so they can of the 51st vote and thank goodness the family is here now and we will be working together for all of you. i had a call about 30 minutes
4:04 am
ago and it was a generous call. it is both a concession call and congratulatory call. i don't agree with everything they said. they tried their very best to get something done. you and i decided to missourians decided we weren't going to let that happen. but a competition that was. how sweet it is to win, but particularly how sweet it is to win and be part of what is happening interstate. in the last several months that these candidates are just elected today, i am looking at the future of misery in ways they haven't had a chance to do that in a long time. what a great group of new state officials. to join the missouri general assembly that is focused on the
4:05 am
bright things. great moment for our state. great moment for our country. take all of you for what you did to make it happen. at least favorite story from both of our campaign is the story that my county coordinator in iron county told me as we were standing outside the iron county courthouse. the president of the farm bureau and how great it was to have a hope in this campaign and the nra's help in this campaign. so many people cared about health care research and victims of child abuse and mental health equity, helping in ways that normally we don't see happening campaigns in our state. mostly a tree trimmer come of it is a farmer.
4:06 am
one of the somebody's property, i like it to look like nobody has been the accepted truth but better. we pick up every land and if there is a right and a yard, they said every one of my boys who helps me have said sometimes that they were rolling up nobody does it this way. if you do it like everybody else does, and you're just everybody else. the united states of america is not like everybody else. we are an exceptional country. thank you for your help in thank you for all you did to make this happen. [cheers and applause]
4:12 am
[inaudible conversations] >> after came up with this idea can i did research information because this was the case with a lot of pieces that will be done for this competition. mental illness especially. it's a complicated issue. it's not like and why. it is so multifaceted to database knowledge of what i wanted to talk about in this
4:13 am
piece and obviously it is so complicated that i can't talk about it all. >> it's a really broad topic -- topic. before i started interviewing my parents come in before i started shooting, i researched the topic. i kind of talk to the pharmacist there. i type to my mom and her colleagues and coworkers and of course a lot of internet research. >> a lot of internet research to find more like facts and data and statistics about employment as a developmental disabilities and to see really what was going on. the information i got off of the internet came from government funded websites so that's how i knew the information i was getting was legitimate.

ross. he thanked his supporters at his campaign headquarters and winston, salem. this'll be his final term in office. his remarks or 10 minutes. [cheers and applause] >> it goes without saying this is better than all the rest. [cheers and applause] i want to start by saying thank you to my partner, tom vilsack, but i: skippy. tom and susan have been available every time we pass. they've done everything we've asked an angry for the partnership we have for the work we do in north carolina and i can tell you to know to senators that were closely than tom and i do and i'm grateful for that.
4:16 am
[applause] tonight i am truly humbled by the support i've received from people across the state. it is an honor to be granted or her term the united states senate. this is a victory for all those who have believed in me and who have continued to have confidence and the fact that my values match your values. [cheers and applause] i've got to get a special banks of first and foremost, my family. their support and understanding his life put them through this. campaigns and being away so much is unbelievable. i could've never accomplished even a fraction of what i've done without the strength and help that i get every day from
4:17 am
my wife, her up. [cheers and applause] it goes without saying that my children have grown up. one was eight and one was nine when i went to congress the first time. for many come to the wasn't that good. i may vote to look into adults who've grown up to be great contributors to the community they live in. it's not easy putting up the schedules and demand that nighttime, but broke prison without complaint. she sends me to costco or wal-mart or somewhere as soon as i get home. as he is seen on tv, she was my secret weapon in the campaign.
4:18 am
[cheers and applause] i know i'll never be able to thank her enough, but on sunday with two sons, daughter-in-law and granddaughter, work looked over at me sunday and said i just want you to know i've been blamed about being in paris for christmas, so by golly you are taking me to paris for christmas. it's going to cost me a link. we don't know what we might face in the nation. but we know this. for over 240 years, americans have always risen to the challenges whichever way they came. we will not retreat and our commitment to the cause of freedom for one nation with
4:19 am
liberty and justice is available to all. as americans we breathe the air of freedom every day. unlike so many of organizations that courses through our veins and thousands of americans have shed lead to guarantee the keeper of liberty. our hearts swell with pride knowing we live in the greatest land ever known to mankind. [cheers and applause] campaigns are about differences. differences between the candidates. but now that the election is over, it is time to move forward with salt and a very real problems we face as a nation. those of us who serve as elected officials must do so in a way that positively affects all of our citizens and that is our obligation and it's our responsibility. we should be prepared to make tough decisions as their
4:20 am
nation's founders in so many who are remembered for the contributions they've made. we all love america and the desired in some way to make our future better for all but living to keep america safe from the threats of terrorists and to provide everyone a chance to achieve their hearts desired. the night leaves me with the bittersweet feelings. but just because it will be my last election [laughter] had announced it before this campaign i would've announced it tonight. but because of something more personal. 12 years ago as we celebrated my first senate election, i stood on the stage with my father and my mother who provided incredible encouragement and
4:21 am
everything we've ever done. six years ago as we celebrated a second election to the united states senate, only my dad was here to be with me on stage. but i think everybody here knew that my mother was still cheering me on. tonight the bittersweet is that neither are with us in person. but i believe they join us in spirit as they've always been good for celebration. life is and always will be a circle. people are boring. they live their lives, hopefully making a difference in their lives come to an end and they are replaced by a new generation. as we part about tonight is even though my parents are gone, our first grandchild arrived earlier this year and we celebrate tonight with help of her future and the future of your
4:22 am
grandchildren. that is why i ran again this year, to make sure she had all of your grandchildren have the unlimited opportunities and a safer world in which sugar. the wheel of life continues to turn. one generation lived stage and another enters. i pledge to you to finish my public service to a knowledge and to make sure the next generation feels the full effects of what we can accomplish. in closing, i want to share with you a book for my father. on april 5th, 1945, i was watching a beachhead in the pacific are the words they are great climax. on that afternoon i was with a group that stared down upon one of those magnificent strands of gold and pacific beach. that instead of dieters to attract the eye, they were dead bodies. they were broken and all was
4:23 am
quiet except for this or that washed over the white sand. each way moved in and out as though trying to say get a. got up the battle is over. but there was only silence. it was the sentence of death. go in on the shorter god was speaking to those who lived, unquote. those words are part of the servant my father delivered on april 6, 1967 entitled where the action is. the point she went on to make is there's always work to be done by living and it is their responsibility to get in on the action. he taught me to do my part.
4:24 am
i intend to carry out my duties to this next senate term. as i try to do the best of my ability for the past 22 years, i am also reminded that with this special privilege tonight, that only two senators be elected, not appointed in north carolina's history will have served longer than i will and that is jesse helme and sandberg then. -- sam ervin. [applause] at the end of his six years it will be time to let another generation in on the action by serving in the united states senate. so tonight to each of you, i thank you from the bottom of my heart for this victory which would be the capstone of my public service.
4:25 am
4:26 am
[applause] >> you are a hard-working good-looking crowd. i love you, too. and i love the people of north carolina. well, it is not the outcome that we wanted, but i have zero regrets. [applause] it has been a huge honor to god to be your united states senator. and i want to thank you for all the time and effort that you put into this election. it has been an election. serious issues have been put out there and you've worked very hard. i want to thank my husband steve
4:27 am
land who stood by me. he's been my best friend. he's been a trusted advisor and he has always stood by me when i reach for my dream. my parents are here with me tonight and you've heard about them on the trail. my dad, who always pushed me to do better and my mom is always there for me no matter what. i talked to them every sunday, usually on her way to church and they have been the best parents anybody could ask for. [applause] i also want to thank my staff. many of you have met them. they are the best of north carolina. some of them it is their first
4:28 am
job. [applause] this is their first job out of school. i've got kids from the hofstede, williamson, charlotte all over this state. we have people who came back to north carolina to work on this campaign and some folks who we commenced to make north carolina home because it reflects our state and the people. i want to tell you that we got in this race before the people of north carolina and i have loved going to more than 90 counties throughout the state. we have met people who have been struggling, you need to have the minimum wage increase. we have met older people who cannot make ends meet just on social security and medicare. we have seen what the needs are at the state of north carolina
4:29 am
and i am hoping and praying that this next congress will address them. i also want to congratulate my opponent, senator byrd. he has served -- [cheers and applause] he has served this state for more than two decades and he will be your senator and please go to head because anybody who serves youth needs to serve all the people of this state. [applause] i want to share with you just a few stories from the campaign trail about people who have inspired me because i hope that you'll take that inspiration with you. i want to talk to you about an 85-year-old guy i met in gaston county. he was one of the first recipient of the order of the longest time.
4:30 am
he told me that this election is the most significant election that we've had in north carolina since 1960 when he got to vote for jfk and terry sandberg. i carry those words with me all throughout the state of north carolina. i want to tell you about a young man who lost his scholarship because of an injury and is working the night shift to stay in school. he is going to need help paying for college, just like so many young people are from north carolina and our congress needs to address that issue. [applause] i want to tell you about the overflow room that people inc. on labor day. bertie county has suffered a lot from the hurricane.
4:31 am
but there were people before the hurricane who came out because they know their votes matter. they know their votes count and we cannot forget that tons of hurricane map he just because we are having an election. finally, i want to thank my junior high school history teacher who grew up in a small town in north carolina. i talked to her before he came over to the hotel this evening and she wished me well. the teachers out there, please remember you are inspiring the next generation. [applause] this has inspired me. please, please remember every day what you're doing. i don't consider this the end.
4:32 am
we consider young people in one run a campaign we can be proud of and has inspired them. i am going to leave you in just a minute, but i am going to take a page from the playbook. he ran for u.s. senate twice and did not prevail, but one of the major things he did is inspire a president iraq obama to go forward. i hope that i've inspire just one or two people along the way. thank you so much, north carolina. [applause] god bless you. [cheers and applause]
4:33 am
[cheers and applause] >> fort knox was chosen because it was america's most impenetrable location. it was the gold bullion depository opens several years prior. there have been lots of gold already transferred there. the secretary of the treasury more than paul used a portion for these documents. >> yes to make a decision what documents are going to be. the gross constitution indefinitely. the articles of confederation pre-cons to shine for sure. the gettysburg address considered critical. and so he makes this decision. methodically i think on what is
4:34 am
going to go to fort knox. these are considered the most valuable documents in the country. the magna carta is the document that he's been asked to preserve. >> in illinois, democrat timmy duckworth defeated mark kirkwood and 54% of the vote. at her campaign headquarters in chicago she thanked her supporters and top about her experience as an iraq war veteran. her remarks are 15 minutes. >> tonight we showed a campaign and its focus on practical solutions rather than slogans to be successful. we showed that we voted the
4:35 am
class and respect and hard work can be successful, too. and while it's too early and the big race is still yet to be called, we are filled with hope that history will be made tonight. [applause] a win for secretary clinton is also a win for the sadness and american values that we hold so dear. more importantly, it is a repudiation of the bio politics of fear and xenophobia aside to marginalize women, people of color and immigrants. [applause] are lgv teach you brothers and sisters, our hope is that tonight's results are the new birth of freedom and also a reminder that the price of
4:36 am
freedom is eternal vigilance. while this campaign has drawn to an end to the real work of securing the blessings of liberty for ourselves and for all of our children and grandchildren can use. that is why i am so proud of this can pain and so excited to get to work. thank you to all of our great volunteers and supporters, the people who knocked on doors and made phone calls and sent in contributions, $5.10 at a time. this is a truly grassroots effort and a victory would not have been possible without each and every one of you. [applause] absolutely. thank you to my campaign staff have kept the ship on course and win the best on senate race in the country.
4:37 am
[applause] thank you to my family, my husband brian, my brother tom, my mom and my precious abigail who came into our lives just two short years ago. she changed us completely. she's our angel. and of course, thank you, senator durbin for that warm introduction and so much more. there is simply quite no way that i could stay and be appear tonight without your wisdom and encouragement and don't have the words to explain simply what you mean to me. you are the most decent public servant i know and the people of illinois are lucky to have you. [cheers and applause] i am here because of the miracles that occurred 12 years ago this saturday and destitute
4:38 am
in iraq is someone can explain that the bravery of my crew and some i can't write the shrapnel from the explosive passing through my helicopter spinning rotor blades and did destroy it and allowing us to land. i started that day flying high in doing what i love more than anything in the world tonight and did it knock down, bleeding, lay low, surviving only because my buddies refuse to leave me and would stop even if they struggled to carry me, dropping me, falling, getting back up, stumbling forward again, lifting my deadweight, their hearts bursting from the exertion. one of his heroes is in the room right now. matt baucus, thank you. i can only be here because of you. [cheers and applause]
4:39 am
i live every day trying to honor you. 11 days later i woke up at walter reid so weak i couldn't even move, so weak i couldn't even eat or clean up after myself. but i was alive, alive with a debt that i can never repay. and i wake up every morning now trying to be worthy of my crew, trying to be worthy of their struggle, to be worthy of this miraculous second chance. as we celebrate this amazing and hard earned the tree, let's keep in our sites and are hard those who are celebrating tonight because they've been knocked down by life's unpredictability. there is steel workers and families to granite city. more than 2000 of them got laid off today before last giving them a day last two days before
4:40 am
the blast christmas. there were people who kept hearing about an economic history and simply have assaulted in their lives. let's be clear. the economy didn't fail them all of a sudden in 2008. in too many cases it's been decades of decline and frustration by don by unfair trade deals and economic trends that were the wealthy at the expense of everyone else. there's a brave young woman whose parents brought her to this country in search of opportunity that he now faces the uncertainty of being undocumented. not only that, the rhetoric coming out of the political season this year makes her wonder she still welcomed in the only country she knows. there's a young man in chicago who told me he could and would leave his gang left behind if he could find any job that paid $350 a week. he went looking for six figures. he was looking for stability and dignity of a job. then there is a combat veteran
4:41 am
who answered this nation's call for when he came home after years of war struggle to find a steady job. he's attended too many funerals of his buddies who struggled to readjust and wonders if his torment will ever go away. there are people living out the stories every day in every community across illinois with a circuit that has been the 2016 election coming to an end amid these challenges will still remain ,-com,-com ma but so will the opportunities and it is up to us to meet them. it starts with a basic understanding that no matter who you voted for today, we are all in this together. president kennedy told us that are most is that common link is that we all inhabit this small planet. we all breathe the same air. we all cherish our children's futures and we'd all are mortal. if the president of the united states can summon the grace of
4:42 am
understanding at the height of the cold war, surely we can find it in ourselves to give a fellow americans in benefit. >> here, here. [applause] and that is the spirit that i will bring to work in the senate every single day. while there may be a disagreement with her friends on the other side of the aisle, which is healthy, i pledge to serve as a presumption that my colleague, regardless of party love this country as much as i do and that all we want is what is best for our children. [applause] moments ago -- moments ago i spoke with senator kirk and he offered his support as we make this transition. it's been a tough campaigner question about it. make no mistake however senator kirk is served this country for over two decades and we are grateful for his service.
4:43 am
[applause] he is also an inspiration for people overcoming adversity and living with a disability. thank you, senator kirk. so where do we go from here? just as they try everyday to live up to the sacrifices to carry me off the battlefield, i will go to work in the senate looking to honor the sacrifice and quiet dignity of those illinoisans who are facing challenges of their own. after all, this nation didn't give up on me when i was at my most vulnerable and needing the most help. i believe in an america that doesn't give up on anyone who hasn't given up on themselves. that is why i will work to make college affordable for every american. [applause] whether it is an honor student searching for the right school
4:44 am
but scared at taking on 30, 50, $100,000 of debt before she's even begun her career or work or looking to the skills and employability they ruined any program at a community college. i will work to make illinois a leader in renewable energy also. [applause] you know, our neighbors in iowa get more than a third of their energy needs from wind while we only get 5% here in illinois. not only should we be producing more energy from wind and other renewable sources, we should leverage considerable advantage does a skilled workforce advanced manufacturing sectors and geography to be a global leader in building the renewable energy infrastructure. [applause] make sure our veterans are getting the best care in receiving the benefits it
4:45 am
promised them. they did not hesitate to answer the call when america asked them to serve and we should not make them wait now. [cheers and applause] the cities vibrancy was on full display for days ago with 5 million-pound sand -- cubs fans and even a few reluctant box and cardinals fans, maybe in disguise, came out to celebrate. we love this city and we know how great and beautiful it is. but that doesn't mean we don't acknowledge his problem. chief among them are communities where hope and opportunity are so far removed from that seed that they might as well be in a different debate. too many of our neighbors have to travel outside of their neighborhood for amenities that we take for granted and so so many parts of the rest of the
4:46 am
city. groceries, clothing and basic needs for everyday living. thousands of hard-working illinoisans have fled for lack of hope began to spiral neglect devastates neighborhoods, the tax base and opportunity for young people. to address this, we need economic justice. we need jobs than we need investment in all of our communities. [applause] opportunity shouldn't be something that requires a commute. and the senate, i will work for increased infrastructure investment by this maintaining roads and bridges, improving and expanding public transportation or at long last ensuring that our drinking water is safe by replacing lead pipes throughout all of our communities. that will help to create good jobs and model the playing field. economic justice also means an educational system that prepares our children for a fast changing
4:47 am
economy and one that serves adults as well. like those in granite city whose lives were upended last year. we shouldn't be hosting opportunity whether just starting out or changing careers. you know, my dad -- my daddy because i called him daddy my entire life. he was one of those people. he lost his job in the cities and our middle-class assistance was on its head. i am here today because the public schools, food stamps, power grids and safety net designed to help people who have been knocked down and i am proud of it. >> representative duckworth's opponent gave his concession speech at his campaign had orders in wheeling, illinois. [chanting] >> everybody, i just call it senator elect tammy duckworth to
4:48 am
congratulate her on her while five race. i told tammy i would do everything possible to make sure illinois has the strongest possible representation in the united states of america. i will continue the tradition i started in 2010. i invited her to join me at the billy goat tavern. [cheers and applause] this coming year's summit will show kids across illinois that opponents can bury the hatchet after a tough election and that what unites us as americans is much stronger than what divides us. [cheers and applause] i ran for congress to make a difference. after my stroke i thought for a long time, what is the gift that illinois has given to the country based on the lincoln presidency and the 1964 vote for the civil rights act i decided that the unique illinois gift to the country has been in
4:49 am
individual dignity of personal freedom. that gift from the working public, the practical midwestern represent -- iran to be an advocate for illinois in the state that has a very strong work ethic and his home to the best baseball team on the planet. go cubs. i want to thank everyone who has made this telephone calls and knocked on doors and made a contribution in this game you have been absolutely excellent. to my friends and my family and staff, you mean the whole world to me. let's celebrate the man in the best country in the world. thanks, everybody. [applause]

few moments ago i got up the phone with congressman murphy and i congratulated him on a good race. congressman murphy is a young man with a bright future and i thanked him for his willingness to step forward and public service. guys come running for office is hard. the new name on the ballot is high. i congratulate him and his family lived for his family looks forward to seeing the ways he's going to serve our country in the future. i want to begin by acknowledging that ao is due and that is that they ran a great race. all the glory and praise belongs to my creator, the god in my personal fave from a word and savior jesus christ. he has carried us in every moment of our lives, the good times and difficult once in the twists and turns and there's been a number of twists and turns this year. i always acknowledge god and i thank god for the greatest blessing is given me after the
4:53 am
opportunity to be a citizen of the greatest nation of birth is an extraordinary woman to share my life with. my wife, jeanette and my four children. we had a great campaign team and i wish i could mention other names. there's so many great people. i want to know someone who came here and at a phenomenal job. there's no one better in the country right now in my opinion writing these things than the person who ran mine. his name is clint reid and i want to thank him. i want to thank the staff and senate office. i can't say how many people came up and said i'm not a republican but i will vote for you because you guys help me. you helped me with a security at the va. we are honored to do it and that is for people to work in my office in washington and across florida.
4:54 am
of course i want to thank the people of this extraordinary is date for giving me another opportunity to continue to serve them in the united states senate. this is an extraordinary place in florida. a collection of all the things that make us the greatest nation of birth. people who have lived here for decades, descendents of slaves, children of immigrant. florida is america. i want to say a few words in spanish because a lot of a lot of people both from a learned about me in spanish. [speaking in spanish] [speaking in spanish]
4:55 am
we have been through an interesting year as the nation and i rate the results of tonight's election. but here is what i know for sure. here is what i know. there is still no nation on earth that i'd rather be in. despite all our challenges, there is no country in areas that people on this planet that i would trade places with. i've glad that i'm an american in the 21st century. america is going to be okay. i have faith. i know god is not done with america yet. he has great plans for our country.
4:56 am
in the days and weeks to come, i hope we as a people of florida set the example in this great state that while we can disagree on issues, we cannot share a country where people hate each other because of their political affiliation. we cannot go forward as a nation if we cannot have enlightened debate about tough issues. you can disagree with someone without hating them and you can disagree with them without delegitimized and appointed you. that doesn't mean our diversity will not divide us on critical issues. it does mean that there is no way for the nation to move forward if we leave anyone behind. i hope that i and my colleagues is to return to work in washington d.c. can set a better example of how political discourse has existed in this country. i know people feel betrayed and you have a right to. every major institution has failed us. the media, the government, big business, wall street, academia.
4:57 am
they've all failed us. some people are so frustrated and named to. but we must channel the anger and frustration into something caused it. but it move us forward as energy to good rent and saw. america has never had an easy era. our state is always confronted great challenges and so to have our people. and yet in each generation americans have stepped over to confront the challenges and embrace their opportunity and now the time has come for us to do the same. i blew with all my heart if we do what needs to be done in the years to come to my children and yours will be the freest in the most prosperous americans that have ever lived. we must start now for we still have time to get this right we do not have forever. i will close by saying that while i have the police about the decisions we make in government are important. india and america will not be
4:58 am
saved by politicians. i hope we as nation will return to our roots as a people and a nation respecting our diversity that understanding that ultimately what unites us as a people is a common dream and, in hope of life and we can only achieve that if we all achieve that and i hope that god gives me the opportunity to move over. i will close with this. i hope the nation tonight irrespective of the outcome of president that we will all say a prayer for our great country because of the ancient words of scripture tell us, unless the lord build the house, they labor in vain and i must alert guards the city in vain does the guards keep watch. let us work together. god bless this great nation. thank you for the opportunity to continue to serve. god bless you all and god bless florida. thank you. thank you very much. thank you. [cheers and applause]
