easy thing to do. come in from the outside, and i live here. i am a pretty polarizing figure, and the nice thing, hopefully this next book, people read them and they see you i made an effort to gather the story from the people but it is hard to hold back on certain judgments and some of these books have become indictments of a place and when you live in that place is difficult. and a great nonfiction writer.

might use aircraft carriers to attack hawaii. here we had obvious evidence that something might be happening and they thought that did not mean very much in the end and the result is in part due to that. >> host: what was the intelligence like back then? was very strong intelligence system? >> guest: this was the age well before satellites and big listening dishes. it was a very by comparison to today, a very primitive time when it came to intelligence. we basically tried to find out what the other side was doing by listening to their radio signals. it sometimes worked, it sometimes didn't, but it was not nearly as sophisticated then as it is now. i don't think pearl harbor could happen again for that reason.
