work cut out for him but we are leaning on him to fulfill those responsibilities and keep the department of energy as one that not only here in the united states we look to for true leadership, but around the world mr. president, rick. has a strong record of results based on public service in the state of texas. he is a proven leader and i am confident he will do a good job for us leading the department of energy in this new administration. i will be supporting his nomination and i would certainly urge my colleagues to do the same. with that i note the absence of a quorum. >> after that debate, the senate voted 62 - 37 to confirm former texas governor rick perry as energy secretary. earlier in the day the senate had confirmed retired neural surgeon ben carson as secretary of housing and urban development
