>> watch c-span city tour today at noon eastern on c-span2 booktv and sunday at tpm on american history t.v. on c-span3. working with our cable affiliates as we explore america. >> while is fairly certain the house will take up immigration bills in the coming week, but the debate will look like is less certain. joining us with rafael burnell with the hill latino covering immigration policy? were some key details to know about the two immigration bills the house is likely to take up? >> your these two bills. one of them is a more conservative bill and one is a deal between conservatives and moderates in the republican congress. they both conform to the president four pillars approach. and the more conservative bill is sort of the four pillars plus. and these four pillars are of course, a safety net for legal

status for dreamers. construction of the presidents proposed border wall and an end to the visa lottery and of course come with the president calls, chain migration. democrats call it family reunification visas. >> to either of the two bills deal with the issue of the separation of children and their parents at the border? it has been quite a bit in the news lately. >> yes. it is a fairly new issue. it made into the newer bill. and it basically, the bill calls for an end to what is known as the settlement agreement. in 1997 court case that puts certain standards or when minors can be put in immigration detention. and whether minors could be detained with adult and for how long. that sort of thing. it calls for an end to -- what

it does is, you would not separate families instead of separating them you would detain them together. and of course, democrats are quite angry about this proposal. >> you written a bit lately about congressman -- in the discharge petition effort also about the house freedom caucus chair, mark meadows. what you hear about whether they will support either of these two bills that will come up next week? >> the deal is still a work in progress. those are the three key actors in this deal. and they all say that there is still a lot of work to be done. i sense nor support from the moderates. then from the house freedom caucus. they basically have said they will not vote for it. the chances of the bill passing our not great, frankly.

>> we talked about the uncertainty of the debate ahead. the reason is, the morning started off friday with the president telling fox news he would not support the moderate measure. a couple of things change friday afternoon.first the president tweet on friday afternoon saying that the democrats are forcing the breakup of families at the border with their horrible and cruel legislative agenda. and any immigration bill must have full funding for the law and catch and release, visa lottery and chain. and merit-based immigration. then your publication on mid friday afternoon with the headline from the white house, they are changing of the story in terms of what the president told fox and friends in the news program on friday morning. the headline, white house walks back rejection of immigration compromise. where does this leave things? are there areas where the president or democrats, i should say in moderate

republicans, can find areas of compromise with the administration? >> well, the one area they have found compromise is, all parties seem to want the path to legal status for dreamers. what that looks like, it is a matter of a lot of debate. >> there seems to be in agreement on border security. >> that is as far as democrats go. as republican moderates, they go even further to the right and we are hearing from moderates that they wanted a bipartisan solution. but it is hard to expect a, a bipartisan bill from a bipartisan deal. they are uncomfortable with some of the more stringent parts of enforcement in the bill. but this is where you would expect if you have a gop only

bill. >> lastly, one quick thought. is there any appetite in the senate for taking up either of the two measures? >> that is the big question. certainly, senator mcconnell, he said that he does not want to quote - weight anymore on immigration pretty well already spent a week on it. whatever the senate comes up with, there has to be 10 democrats for it to pass. you have 10 centers that need to agree to it. even if the bill does pass, whatever comes out of the senate is likely to lean a little bit more to the left. we will see if that still passes the presidents standards bequest, ring the immigration debate on capitol hill. you can follow on the hill.com and also you can follow him on twitter. thank you for the update. >> take you for having me. >> now sec commissioner robert jackson on
