1:36 am
to the obvious racial discrimination we have seen full display over the last two weeks and the appropriate response by the federal government explaining his proposal in the works we will all have more to say about that in the future but let's turn to the business of the senate this week and we will call on our colleagues with a great america outdoors act. >> thank you mitch for the past several months americans have spent the great indoors now we talk about the great outdoors the great america outdoors act is a historic piece of legislation with bipartisan support 60 cosponsors representing states across the country and those in 50 plus years combines the

crown jewel with the restore our parts and as part exact to catch up with the deferred maintenance backlog this is incredibly appropriate now as the economy continues to get back onto his feet this legislation will create over 100,000 jobs so when the went to shut down this will put people back to work protecting the great open spaces represented at the national parks and those that are headquartered in the great state of california or colorado 82 / 17 was a tremendous showing of support i look forward to the bipartisan success for the

bill's passage. for people to get back on their feet for jobs created to get into the great outdoors something we all know and for generations to come. >> we have cabin fever in montana we are looking forward to spending time outside. and isn't it ironic public lands to bring a divided government and nation together. i share the national park subcommittee to address it with a $12 billion and they are loved to death by the american people that afraid on the edges and then to include with the forest land thing go
1:39 am
back to the last congress we were trying hard to get this legislation passed we couldn't quite get there thanks to the agreement of the four corners of the leadership congress as well as the president in february 19 we passed at that time the largest public lands bill in ten years across the finish line one year later february 2020 myself the leader mcconnell went to the white house to sit across the table in the roosevelt room
1:40 am
with president trump to show the benefits of this fill the great america outdoors act and if you get it passed i will sign it. this is across public lands, a job creating bill. more than you can tell by the deer tag we say in montana we are the last best place we get to work and we also love to play. that is montana. >> i want to add my congratulations to a bipartisan accomplishment here in the senate this is been bottled up for a long time and is long overdue and is someone who represents the travel industry is our top industries in south dakota in terms of the economy and to see the

backlog of maintenance and this legislation will do that coming to mount rushmore on the third of july we are anxious to host him into the work we are getting down to the legislation. and a major piece of bipartisan meant by - - bipartisan legislation. eight hearings dealing with oversight of covid. and then to examine the issue of unemployment insurance. and with those procurement or reimbursement issues. and the nominees we would go on the chief of staff of the air force in a few minutes so

$6 billion and those encouraging signs at the economy that these policies have the desired effect. we look forward to that work is important we get right and democrats to pass another $3 trillion without knowing and to make sure we get this right and to be responsible stewards of the taxpayer dollars knowing that every dollar we spend is a viral dollar we want to make sure we are doing this in the effective and efficient way to maximize the return to the american taxpayer. >> the cares act has worked you saw the success this week with the unemployment numbers two.5 million new jobs are created the single biggest

and to get americans back to work. >> so just from world war ii eisenhower said if a problem cannot be solved sometimes the way to solve it is to make it bigger which is what we did with the great american outdoors act. several bills came together, had a deal with land and water conservation fund, dealing with income from exploration, the concept that public lands themselves could do a better job to help support public lands now a few years into the second century of the national park system nobody has anything that rivals it. so this is an opportunity to do that backlog maintenance to make them places where people want to go safely and look at all the public lands the associations is five.5 million jobs relate directly to outdoor recreation in my hometown and the bass pro shop relates to recreation but in our state 133,000 jobs relate to recreation and continue to

it was take it way too soon and his staff was the catalyst for when he did you happen a very long time ago. it's a great time to reflect upon the life in the loss of george floyd and understand the significance of moving forward to have positive and encouraging talks about what is to be a person of color across the united states and with senator tim scott and to talk about racial injustice and how we can solve it to be the part of the solution it's a great time to come together and chaplain barry black as

the des moines metro area helping them to overcome the challenges of race he has this same type of organization we look to with those type of solutions i look forward to tackling this issue and one that we not easily forget. thank you. >> relief is on the way for the american workers and the hardest hit businesses. in a bipartisan fashion and the signature of the president of the united states we can get passed into law the paycheck protection flexibility act to make improvements to the paycheck protection program which so many have benefited. extending from eight weeks up at 24 weeks somebody can we see paycheck protection friends and have the money and this is essential to businesses where the state of indiana and i heard this early on and then to the economy.

1:52 am
approaching this and i can tell you again if you would like. >> absolutely it's important to have a response. none of us have had the experience to be an african-american in this country with this discrimination that persist in the 1964 and with america's original sin we tried to get better but every now and then we are a long way from the finish line it is perfectly

1:55 am
with a large majority we believe the house will take it up and send it to the president for signature it is in proximity but nobody said quit doing things just because there is an election. we have one every two years that we can find our way through this partisanship and do something important for the country. thank you.
