thank you for joining us. >> my pleasure. >> and liz cheney chair number three of the conference voted out. what does that tell you about house republicans at this stage? >> well, it tells me that doing donald trump's bidding is the alpha omega of their political strategy. one thing about liz cheney, she's one of the most conservative members, she had voted with trump on the trump agenda more than 90% of the time. now, whatever report card you look at, whatever score card you look at. in terms of policy, liz cheney is a solid and reliable conservative and yet, she was thrown out, she was canceled from her leadership position for one reason and one reason only, because she refuses to go along with donald trump's big lie about the election and she refuses to whitewash january 6th. so it is interesting that with all of the fallout from the on

january 6th. literally the only republican member of congress to face any sort of sanction is the one person who was willing to tell the truth, and i think that says something about kevin mccarthy's big tent which is actually rather toxic and shriveled. >> of course this week 35 house republicans rebuking kevin mccarthy voting in favor of this january 6th commission after the leader mccarthy saying he would not support it. did that number surprise you? >> it did. i will admit if i had to bet i probably would have done 10-20. i had former congressman dave jolly on my podcast days before, what it meant to whip a vote and the kinds of threats of loss of support at that republican members would face if they defied leadership and i was thinking, okay, that's going to shrink the number down. it was a significant rebuke for

kevin mccarthy in part because, i think, he was an unreliable leader. he threw one of his own members under the bus, john katko who negotiated this deal in good faith and gotten rather significant concessions from the democrats, it was a compromise, so to have 35 members of the house vote, republicans vote against leadership was significant, however, having said that, we need to kind of step back a back and look at the fact that 175 republicans, about 84% of the republican conference voted to-- voted against a commission to look at the events of january 6th. this should have been an easy vote. this should have been noncontroversial to say we needed to, on a bipartisan basis, look at this. and yet, 85, 84% of the republican caucus voted against it and that is an even greater number than v
