susan crabtree which is white house national political correspondent for real clear politics. good morning susan . >> good morning bill. >> host: it's been a busy time for the president overseas, returning midweek but a busy week domestically at least certainly on the things that he's interested re in. the infrastructure proposals in congress and the vote, the preliminary vote on the senate on voting rights. tell us about his week ahead. >> guest: it's back to basics at the white house. the more basic, less glamorous job of legislation. when lawmakers left town there was significant progress being made on bipartisan progress being made on three different

things. infrastructure as you mentioned, voting rights and the police reform bill. we have a meeting today with the white house, president biden meeting rswith financial regulators. we don't know too much other than it will focus on regulatory priorities including financial risk and agency action. then on wednesday there's an interesting meeting that's the president will be doing on crime prevention. there's been a lot of clamor around the country and the president has avoided althis so far. it's been a grepublican talking point that he is now going to address this and have a meeting with stakeholders on wednesday. on thursday he will be traveling to north carolina to promote vaccinations and on friday he will deliver remarks on pride month and also meet with the president of afghanistan about the withdrawal. as you mentioned that the action is going to be taking place on capitol hill this week . we have a lot of response, we are waiting from the white house on this new bipartisan

infrastructure bill that's this group of 21 lawmakers that backed the republican, the lead republican senator portland has been talking ethis up over the sunday talk shows over the weekend . there's disagreement as you know on the how to pay for it and senator bernie sanders of the budget committee chairman has his own $6 trillion proposal which is far more expansive. he was somewhat open to the idea of the bipartisan proposal which was much more scaled down at $1 trillion but he said he didn't agree with the republican proposal to tax, to increase gas taxes and index them for inflation or have an additional tax on clean energy vehicles, he didn't like that of course so there at a crossroads again on infrastructure when it comes to paying for it. >> and the president will we willing will we hear fromhim today or tomorrow on that

bill ? >> we are expected to hear from him today on that bill. we are awaiting that response and also we will get some tension back at the new press briefing with jen. >> let me ask you about the voting rights bill, the procedural votes coming up in the senate . there's a sweet, the vice president who said she tweeted about that on child tax credit awareness day. but susan crabtree, the president has designated the vice president as thepoint person and do we expect her to play some sort of role or be in the senate as that procedural vote happens tomorrow and in the days to come on voting rights ? >> that's a really good question. she is the point person on that and border security and border crisis. we can't collect anything about that right now but we haven't seen her very much on the voting rights initiative and it had civil rights leaders such as how sharpton

saying that they want progress on this but they don't have any type of bipartisan agreement on this. she had joe mentioned coming out and saying he's going tosupport this new scaled-down voting rights bill . it would have basically unveiled an election day holiday and have 15 days ahead of time for some voting . but to provide moreabsentee ballots for people who need them . it's much more scaled back though them what the democrats really want so we haven't heard very much from miss harris on this end. people on the hill are awaiting her response. but this is not going anywhere in the senate in terms of republican support. even senator rob portman yesterday on the talk shows was saying he doesn't believe fundamentally he can support what he called a federal takeover election because the constitution he said provides that to run down elections to

the states. >> we will play some ofthat audio from senator portman later . let me ask about the presidents 70 percent goalfor july 4 . we understand the first lady will be touting vaccinations in nashville and other places and you mentioned the president getting to north carolina later in the week to do that same thing. how important of a goal is thisfor the administration ? >> they are peeling it back a little bit because it's not going to reach the present but you wanted it by july 4 and they're not near that goal but it's inching closer so they've revised it and they want 300 million vaccines byjuly 4 and the first hundred 50 days . that looks like they're shooting for that but that's one of the few pandemic goals the president hasn't met least scaled back a little bit but he's also upping his
